"This man goes some place very special" is very well said, and tells the reader that the man who said it has a special place he goes all his own; I can say that because I found mine back in '68 and go there often, and the best of all is it's my white Strat that takes me there.

Not to disrespect calling it "best" but man oh man, there's a particular version of Let It Rain -- and this is very, very important: not the Clapton album version, nor any version on a Clapton album; the Derek and the Dominoes In Concert album song, Let It Rain. Not the dogshit rerelease of that album either, called "Live At the Fillmore". The Derek and the Dominoes In Concert album song, Let It Rain, the 1973 release only.
If that doesn't change your vote, at least you can now say so with a clear conscience! Because if it exceeds THAT song's solos it must be the top of the mountain.

Tell me there's a slow blues jam and I am there!). From "Derek and the Dominos" onward Clapton has never done that song wrong once he got his hooks into it and all but burned the arena down! Hell, Clapton got the place rockin' so hot my eyebrows were singed!

I have heard & seen just about every recording & video of this song by both writer & original performer Eddie Boyd and Eric Clapton. This is without a doubt the best version. There is one by Boyd where he slightly alters the words in a couple of places which in that way make it better, but I wish Clapton would do a cover of it. You can't play & sing Blues like he does unless you've got that fire deep, down in your soul.

It is amazing but the SNL performance (same tour/year) believe it or not, takes it another step above
