i was so hyped when i heard her name, and the name of the icy fort up north! super cool that he makes the forts all in one world so things like this can happen. makes me want to do the same but im always too sad to abandon a fort in a single world to make a new one lol

It was the same for me as a kid. I'd watch things like boatmurdered and my mom was just completely oblivious to what the shapes on the screen meant.

This reminds me of a greentext where a DM's friend had been telling his daughter about their D&D campaigns as bedtime stories. Just look up "dumb dumb mister greentext", it's a pretty nice read.

Even though she did help slay the undead cyclops, I can see why Stakud left Nokotorad; might be too many memories of lost friends

I can't believe how gripping these randomly generated stories can be
My favorite thing in this game is when an old character wanders into the current fort. That, above all else, makes the world feel alive.
I think my only issue is that it happens *so often*. One or two dwarves I can see, I'll sometimes see 10+ dwarves come in from an old fort that I built, good dwarves too, and that just kind of makes me wonder what happened at the old fort that so many would pick up stakes again.
@@kevingriffith6011 I feel the same, so I space out playing the same dwarven civ in my world. I have 10 to choose from (large world with lots of civs), and if I spend on average 10 years on a fort most of them will be dead by the time I get back to the same civ. Might get a few of their children though, which is always fun! But I always get bards and scholars from my old forts coming by, which I enjoy.

The stories are great, and the art. But honestly i think my favourite part is the narration, it's just very easy to listen to. I hope you will be able to continue making these for a long time to come!

I like the newer illustrations of the elves, you portray them in strange clothes with strange customs, which I think is pretty cool
I have to say that after the release of the steam version I started to understand a lot more about the ASCI graphics. it really boosted my understanding of what is going on. I have been rewatching your older videos due to that and enjoyed and appreciated them on a different level.
Your segment on imagination is interesting to me. I have aphantasia, so I cannot visually imagine these things. So my experience with these games is completely different. And it's fine! You might find it boring to not see a cinematic or comic with your mind's eye, but that's exactly why the steam version is so great to me. It simply works better when you can't really imagine stuff.
Is it accurate to say that Mrs. Krugg is the keystone for coloring the illustrations?

I can't believe Stakud actually showed up. Good to hear she's doing great!
I remember I used to play the game with the RAWs modded to make the cave people like amphibian men neutral/friendly to the Dwarves. It was interesting that way because then they basically set up camp and chill in the caves, helping defend them. In one playthrough I even had the dwarves engrave their living area and make statues for the dead ones.

I tried getting into the old version several times, but it would never stick. I'm well over 500 hours in on the steam version, now. So damn happy they did it!

For Krug my suggestion is to start working on putting out a couple of CZcams shorts. It is a great way to get viewership, CZcams more heavily promotes creators who participate in both. It also gives people a little taste of what you put out and frankly your voice is a PERFECT match for shorts. I don't have any interest in 40k but one channel I started watching purely off of the shorts that had a story of the bravest ogre which completely pulled me in.
EDIT: the shorts were from Warrior Tier. Great stories!

Your videos remind me how fruitful learning this game can be. I've played quite a bit and there's still so much I don't know. Dwarf Fortress is probably the most powerful fantasy story and lore generator on the planet right now. Also, just want to say that I love Stakud. I love watching her succeed while rocking that badass scarf! The spirits of her fallen friends follow her where ever she goes and grants her favor and blessings.
Imagine how lucky we are to live when Dwarf Fortress is being developed. This game is a historic work of art

Congratulations Sir! This is one of my favorite forts so far (the crimson trumpets is the fort to beat). The great building project and the small stories of each dwarf are in perfect balance for my tastes!

I think the dedication of the brothers and their team to make a truly great graphical version shines through in how I barely realize that there is any difference except it is easier to visualize what is happening.
I still think the Halfway-Inn would be a good idea

i like to imagine the dwarves were running around the caverns corner seeing Zuglar mangling an amphiban man in one hand and beating the others away with his other. the dwarves in awe for just a moment and rushing forwards to support him
Anytime I recommend this game to someone, I link one of your videos with. I don't think I would have enjoyed the game as much if I didn't have your stories to inspire me on how to view the world dwarf fortress creates. The creativity you have with this game is outstanding and I hope you get to keep doing it for as long as it makes you happy.

I have loved this channel so much. I love the design of the elves in this run in particular, the willowy folks with their overlong pipes. Very atmospheric. And I've shared your videos with a few friends. I had a watch party for Splatterface with one of my friends a few months ago, it was awesome! Can't wait to see what's next for Northbridge.

I think I've always been a creative person. But your videos have definitely changed and broadened the size of the worlds in my mind. I don't think about what people wear or what their houses look like, I instead think about their lifestyle and culture and wants, I think about the building blocks that lead to fashion and architecture. Every world I create has moved on from being a reskin of the last, to being it's own real feeling world. And I know you are the reason I can do that now. You and Dwarf Fortress, but mostly you. I love every series you make and look forward to them, but knowing that after it's over and I move onto something else, I'm still having more fun thanks to you. I'm currently worldbuilding for an RP Campaign and your influence is really showing so much. Thank you for helping me out and making my entire life more imaginative!

I really love this story. It is starting to feel like a dwarf version of the Twins from A Song of Ice and Fire. With a singular keep in the center of the bridge rather than two keeps on either side of the bridge. Which makes it even more awesome and unique. I wonder if you plan to make large drawbridge/gates on either end of the bridge to block invaders, maybe adding some towers on either side of the gates to allow for troops to shoot down from above.
I would want to have an RPG adventure where a dwarf fortress like this is being besieged by an army of some kind. The fortress is too difficult to conquer so the besiegers intend to starve them. It will take around a year before the fortress' supplies run out and they cannot send out troops to attack the besiegers. Thus a group of adventurers/volunteers are gathered to escape the siege and bring aid before the fortress run out of supplies.
And through their journey to achieve this, they will encounter many dangers like bandits, monsters, and so on. But they will also discover intrigue and danger both from the faction attacking the fortress, rival settlements, and possibly even traitors among the dwarven nobility.
I do not know if I will manage to make a good setup for such a campaign but I will share it with you Kruggsmash if I ever manage to finish it.

Don't forget the abandoned caverns of the original fortress, left unexplored for a century or more. Primitive yes, but full of forgotten lore and perhaps even some abandoned treasures.

Whenever a new Kruggsmash video comes out, it's one of the highlights of my week.

That would be cool as a fortress philosophy.
Everyone fight and is a soldier, but if you lost a limb, can't walk, and any kind of other permanent debilitating injuries ( no urist, missing a finger or an ear don't count ! ), then you become a fully civilian dwarf dedicated to one job, becoming legendary.
My fortress philosophy could be summed up as "being a scaredy cat", walling off the caverns, having 0 military, abusing traps even harder than Durlac, and basically being pathetically safe, so i could use a shake-up.
I just had a really, really rough day, and then this shows up and saves it at the end. Well, it was still a rough day, but a giant cup of hot chocolate and a lengthy Kruggsmash video... That really does put a nice comforting closure to the day. Thank you.
