  • An edited, illustrated and narrated playthrough of the game Dwarf Fortress
With a new fortress built far to the north, the time is right for dwarves eager to carve their own homes along the cyclops trail.
But what if the trail could be circumvented altogether? What if a dwarf forged a new path?

I just built a massive stoneware bridge spanning two continents, so this is exciting to see since you got me into the game and that was my first project fort. I'm very proud of my bridge, it's made of stoneware from fireclay, is about as long as the 6x6 embark size, is wide enough for two wagons to pass each other, has fortifications on the side for aesthetics, and has a tavern suspended above it on one of the ends. The mayor died just before completion, so I made the last tile of the bridge out of gold and engraved an image of him laughing and laboring with the dwarves. I'm hoping to cross the bridge in adventure mode

"What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not a goal" ~Nietzche
A recent discovery is that the top source of lag in DF is NOT caused by pathing, but by the Dwarves checking their relationships to everybody around them to decide how to act. The dwarves are constantly in a state of thinking about the other people around them and deciding how they ought to act in that particular social interaction.
So yeah, the stories that happen during each game of DF might not matter much to the player, but they are the most important thing in each individual dwarves' lives.
Hopefully those trolls won't be too much of a problem. I hear they have a strange fascination for living beneath bridges.

Really love the idea of the ENTIRE fortress (minus mines and logging infrastructure) being on the bridge. Reminds me of the Bridge of Volantis from Game of Thrones, or the various real world bridges that inspire it. maybe you expand the bridge to add the buildings, but realistically, the growth of the buildings would constrict the road to it's limit (3 spaces for a wagon), which would be thematically appropriate! Build everything in a shell around, over, and even under the bridge. The platinum door should be the door to the Mayor/baron/kings domicile, right in the center of the bridge, where, of course, the platinum bell will be displayed above the bridge.

Pure comedy gold. I did not laugh that hard since the cyklops screaming in the wooden fortress.

Seems like a really cool base idea for a fortress. "Just build a bridge" :D

Improvising backstories against the emergent narrative generator is absolutely phenomenal. It's all very good.

That bridge would be really cool to build on/around. Rooms/workshops off to the sides, more above and below via stairwells or floor hatches

When Krugg spoke of building a entire fortress over the bridge my heart beats in joy. But when he spoke of underwater facilities... It exploded in happiness!
    Go Build en krugg!

Always love seeing a Kruggsmash video pop up. The blend of narrative, production value, and art really makes your videos come together as something special.

I just discovered this channel through a recommendation of one of the "History of DF" videos on CZcams, and I'm amazed by the production quality of this video! I found your style easier to follow as a layman when it comes to the game, and it really demonstrates the story generator potential of the game. It reminds me of Pete Complete's narration of RimWorld.

The game: "Here, an expansive underground cave full of dangers. Have fun."

Idea if we need to make a prison at some point we should put a lot of the decorative artifacts in it cause then the dwarf gets to sit there and admire them and they can't break them

  • @fandangofonteinskalita1333

Dude, I've followed you for ages and it's so cool to see that you are still putting out such high-quality content. Your art and DF depictions is also something I absolutely love seeing. Have you ever considered writing a children's book or something? I feel like your ability to tell stories and the art you do would be perfect for it.

Troglodytes seem to enjoy climbing. In one of my most recent fortresses there was a family of 7 Troglodytes who spent two decades clinging to a stalactite.

My man, that intro alone was incredible. The production quality was miles ahead of the cable cartoons I grew up with. That’s so impressive, well done!
