    When my dwarves dealt with elves, I would go to the elven civilisation in the civ screen and... I think mouse over them or click on them and it'd tell me what our tree budget was. Like, it'd say "12/35" or similar. So no need to keep track yourself. Or you can just kill the elves, whatever 🙂

However, to really show off the bridge... well, I know you don't use DFHack or many mods in general, but it would be really nice if you could use Stonesense just to give us a screenshot of the whole bridge in glorious isometric 3D. Most of the time in DF, this isn't necessary because it's all mostly just tunnels, but when you spend this much time and effort building an above ground megaproject like this, I think it helps visualize everything and shows off your hard work.

I realize there are ramps in df, but i'd like to think of those as full blown paths for use by wagons and carts more than anything. I'm sure you hear "stair" and think "stair" but thats not how I look at df. Besides, teh dwarves in DF have no negative thoughts about using stairs while wounded and don't have any trouble with it either, so I figure they must not be normal stairs like you'd assume or else they'd certainly have negative experiences with it.

    I swear, I generally try to play ball with the elves - I have a real weakness for giant animal zoos - but your art of them firing on that dwarven mother had me ready to go and burn down a few forest retreats on general principle. Which is to say, great job conveying a really powerful scene in comparatively few lines!
    I hadn't appreciated the changes to the stress system but I've taken your advice and tried to deliberately schedule more "downtime" and you're right - except for a few dwarves that are naturally prone to stress or rage, pretty much everyone will bounce back with a few months off. Which is nice and realistic! And it makes the outliers even more memorable - I still remember one woodcutter I had who was reduced to a constant rock bottom after a string of bad luck that also culminated with her losing a lung to a helmet snake, and even she lasted several years before she started stumbling around obliviously (thanks to a very empathetic mayor - she went and complained to him on a daily basis, and they considered one another "close friends" at the end.)

    Hey Krugg, just chiming in to let you know it was actually quite cool to hear about your workflow and how it changed with the steam release! Knowing what the holdups etc. are just gives me a deeper appreciation of the quality of your editing and these episodes, and I'd wager I speak for most of your viewers with that :) Glad to hear you found a more efficient workflow for yourself and actually have a weekend now! Much like the dwarves you are just as deserving of breaks, and it's good you've found a way to make that happen!

    This fortress is just really really nice.
    Much different feel from past fortresses, but that might just be the Steam version. (I mean the second series I watched of yours was Chamberpoint. Comparatively this fortress is heaven on earth.)

      Honestly, now! Chamberpoint must have suuucked to live in. I'm just really happy that the stress system seems a bit more manageable these days so we dont' have to go full-nuclear like we did there lol.

    Your videos and the steam version made me cave....I love this game and these videos so SO much!!! I never played a game quite like dwarf fortress.I have to say, it's incredible the amount of work and polish you put into these videos!!! It's tricky crafting a narrative out of something ongoing and your illustrations are of the finest quality! I know how time-consuming it can be to draw traditionally and edit together so much so thank you for continuing to share your tales!

    You know I wonder if the elephants turning areas of the cavern barren from grazing might have gotten the elves angry cause they were probably eating mushroom tree saplings but I can't see how that would count towards felling trees

  • @baltakatei
    @baltakatei Před 6 měsíci +1

    I got lucky and the Baroness who agreed to the tree quota with the elves turned into a werechameleon the same day that the barony was elevated to a monarchy which bugged out the elf contract since apparently the conditions for executing punishment upon us required the original signer to not have been executed by the city guards. And I suspect the circumstances around the noble shenanigans had something to do with things.
    So.... unlimited tree chopping and continued elf trades for Danglecrypt. =D

    I had been wondering how you got such specific statues made, given that as far as I knew, it was a random thing what they would give.
    I am highly fascinated and excited to see you can in fact set what a statue to be.
    Really lets one memorialize events, rather than say, strangely get a ton of elephant related crafts like Boatmurdered without much reason.
