Military training slowly teaches the discipline skill, which generally makes dwarves more stress tolerant on top of being less likely to panic or flee.

The content is dotted with comedy every now and then. as well as masterfully drawn illustrations occasionally. The writing shifts its tone in between serious and casual. you absolute villain. that cliff hanger was a doozy. but gonna be one hell of a start to episode 7. as always the video, editing. story telling, art and narration is top notch. always a joy to sit down and watch. if I may touch on the soldiers moods. i'm pretty new to dwarf fortress so can't really speak from experience. but i think all dwarfs no matter what get upset seeing death so soldiers that see it all the time will naturally break over time. as for their personalities. i think i saw a someone mention in a video that if they get a positive mood from training, they're a good fit for the military, if they don't they will probably start breaking when fighting starts. so it would be a massive hassle but put all the dwarfs in squads and rotate them out in training. one this will help keep them fit probably but will also help to filter out who is a good fit to be a soldier. but like i said would be a massive hassle so up to you how you decide to handle the problem. but again amazing video and glad to hear your able to get more personal projects done in your free time. i love your content but would hate to see you burn out over it. may, Idrath ever smile on your fortunes, Krug

One thing to note is that a dwarfs needs is listed on the forth tab under the personality tab. You don't need to meet all the needs, but a dwarfs mood can suffer if enough of those needs goes unmet. Dwarfs have favored jobs, so disabling all of the jobs can make them upset by preventing them from doing their favorite activity. When treating angry dwarfs, you want to find what that dwarf needs and give them a job that sounds like it would fill those needs, while restricting any job that would prevent the dwarf from meeting those needs. You can't always meet the needs of a dwarf, but when you can, it boosts their mood significantly.

In my playthroughs, military dwarfs are happiest when they're training. This has been kinda paradoxical at times. I recall one dwarf axewoman with a cowardly disposition and traumatized by violence. She'd get into battle against goblins, kill a dozen of them, and plummet down to red mood because she abhored violence. I set the squad to constant training and she'd be up to neutral by the end of the season. As far as I can tell, constant training means they have a constant succession of positive memories associated with the learning and teaching of skills. In my case, I also them training in a well appointed barracks featuring a 4x4 screw pump mist generator which probably helped a lot.

In my experience, some soldiers would rather train than handle their wants. So training makes them the happiest of all the possible activities. Some dwarves will fulfill their needs when they are set to train as long as their squad does not have a barracks designated to train in.

Been following you since the original series, and been a patron since 2020, and I gotta say, I have the most fun watching when you seem to have the most fun playing/ doing the art. So absolutely go with your gut! Get a little weird with it, and chase where your passion takes you.
Your style has gotten incredibly good and distinct, and your ability to carve a gripping story out of the lump of rock DF serves you is unmatched. I’m consistently surprised and delighted by the quirky designs, and it in turn inspires me for my home dnd game.
It’s obvious how much time, love, and effort you put into this (and of course that goes for Mrs. K as well!) From one stranger to another, thank you for the hundreds of hours of entertainment and wonder you give freely. I’m sure it’s not easy, and I’m sure there are times you doubt yourself, but you really do make the world a bit better, and I think that’s all anyone can ask a bearded bastard to do!

Late to this because busy, but it's always a treat and a great pick me up when I'm feeling down. I love how creative you get with your forts. Not just the forts themselves, although many of the themes and ideas behind them are really cool, I love how you depict the artifacts. Like the wood chest in this episode, you could've just done regular chest shape with an image of a kiwiman on it but I love what you did so much more, and how you incorporate the different adornments in the designs of all your artifacts. Thank you for continuing to share these wonderful videos with us!

the elf designs on this are so great, not monstrous, but still inhuman. i think the pipes are great too, gives them an aloofness different from the classic Tolkienesque sort, and the way they're always standing off somewhere, like the trees they so value and resemble

Pretty new to the game and a very new viewer, watched Tuco and now this and, honestly, thank you so much for the stories! I truly appreciate the effort and craftsbeardship going into these videos; your narration and artwork enhance the experience so much! I found Tuco's character-focused story adorably terrifying, and something about it was very reminiscent of Beyond the Deepwoods (one of my favourite books) while in this fortress run it's this vibrant trove of colourful (thanks Mrs Krugg), full-of-life characters *and* ridiculously groovy, real-feeling worldbuilding design work! Such a gem to have discovered!
As for military dwarves... Admittedly, I'm a steam-recent player who's yet to do Science so this isn't so much data as anecdote, but in my fortress I've found that having them on-off training pretty frequently works well for their moods. Indeed, having the training set to constant while using the edit thingy to ensure that only a few are required to be there at a time seems to be great. They love improving their skills, even if they don't like the dead bodies that come with using them.
That said, my barracks are generally also part of appropriate guildhalls so there's plenty of socialising to be had even when they're on the way to and from training. Maybe that's also part of it? I'm also not fighting nearly as many cave beasties as you are, so the corpse levels are not nearly as high. Maybe they're just sick of frogs?
