Master! I'm trying to kidnap a dwarven child, but the weight of his asscheecks keeps slowing me down!

The slow suspenseful introduction of the Forgotten Beast was SO good... and I loved the reveal that the reason Northbridge has been having such "good luck" with Forgotten Beasts is that the Amphibian Men have been an unknown line of defense this whole time. I guess if your civilization emerged alongside them in the caverns, you have to pick up a few things. Maybe the reason they're so bad at fighting dwarves in comparison is just because they've never had to deal with them before-- technically speaking, Northbridge dwarves are an invasive species to the area!

Honestly the scariest thing about this episode was that there were three forgotten beasts that were -already dead- by the time the dwarves noticed. The amphibian men already attack in remarkable numbers. One can only shudder at the thought of the waves they'd surge forth with if fights against such fearsome creatures didn't weaken them beforehand.
The Amphibian men are responsible for the lack of Forgotten Beasts, what a twist!
Stories require a storyteller, and while many of us love Dwarf Fortress, few can spin a yarn as you do Krugg.

so... now we know why the frog people kept throwing their bodies into your defenses. whatever lurks in the depths is a lot scarier. also I feel like its time for a crossbow squad if the elves keep attacking with flying creatures, what also means the bridge entrance could be turned into a kill box.
You know, I keep hearing things about the marksdwarves and how they might be screwed up these days. I suppose it'd serve me to look into it instead of just avoiding them altogether lol. It *would* be a good idea.
@@kruggsmash If I recall the bug is that non-archer uniforms [I.E. Metal uniform, Archer uniform, etc] don't have the quiver and you can't apparently add the quiver to work properly.
Probably create the squad from the basis of the archer uniform, then remove the rest? Hope that helps.

I like the idea of selecting the correct personalities for soldiers from a lore perspective, it fits my image of the dwarves of Northbridge, meticulous with an eye for the long term. I hope it works mechanically

It feels so in character for Vabok to have a petty rivalry with a local mischevious child! He's like the fort's grumpy uncle.

The base level magnificence of the Fort as well…. There’s lots of story left to play out here.
Perhaps some retaliatory raids on the elves? As well after the Goblins are dealt with you could always continue digging. Lots of FUN to be found below as you know well 😂

Man. Krugg doin' well, neat fortress, rotund dwarven children, calling on others to explore their creative side. Just such an enjoyable experience overall. After recently rewatching Murderhall/Watermaster again it's so damn refreshing to hear that you're happy with where you're at finally.
Agreed that this might be one of your best forts. I cannot believe the detail you're going into with the rooms, it's inspiring.
I'm really enjoying this series, Krugg! It's a relief to hear that you're taking time to actually pace yourself. I would love to make more recorded content, but honestly the investment in all that time is a daunting prospect. Maybe one day, but until then, streaming Fortress Friday is one of my favourite things. Have a great day!
Animation! The fly invasion at the very beginning being animated is a huge step. It's so encouraging that soooo much more work is going into this series than like Honeystoker, and you're in a comfortable place doing it. Just awesome. Can't wait to see what's next for you.

Yeah I dunno how this will work exactly. Does "salty" mist really not do anything? Maybe mist caused by ocean waves is different than falling water?

This is really quite something, this fortress. I've watched you for a very long time, and this is just... I don't know. This series is "only" 7 episodes longs at this point, but it feels like home! I am so impressed by how many different aspects you are developing in this fortress simultaneously, my goblin brain can usually only work on 1 major project at a time in my fortresses.
Looking forward to the next one!

I fantasize about creating videos like yours a lot, and I've been practicing playing forts where I keep tract of the stories I find in a little journal. There is still a lot of the game I don't understand so that's a big hurdle for me, but the other is that the biggest draw of what makes your videos so special to me is the art, and while I draw lots of landscapes and animals, I've never really gotten the hang of humanoids. So I need to figure out a style for drawing that is quick and comfortable for me. You had a lot of art for this episode! How much time did getting the art for this one take? And how much recording of you playing the game gets cut out?

"I fantasize about creating videos like yours a lot" - hard same, minus the art - I could probably manage some of the Artifacts, maybe the occasional Forgotten Beast, but the rest is beyond me. Likewise I've played DF on and off for years, but there's still a huge amopunt of the game that is a mystery to me - like the intricacies of anything beyond construction, survival and basic production, or what goes on in caverns - I've never encountered a cavern layer! And yet the stories still unfold! My current Fort has finally overcome it's Were-lizard problem (at a cost of 50% of its population killed or exiled), has a 'tame' vampire in the militia (we lock them in between battles!), and have just discovered bee-keeping, and are trying to construct a citadel of black jet over the entrance to their tunnels. I'd love to record it all and post it up, but it's a fierce amount of work - where and how to begin? Still, I have some time on my hands atm, maybe I should heed @Kruggsmash 's encouragement and at least try! Good luck if you decide to have at it - we'd all love more DF stories!
I feel like you shouldn't worry too much about not knowing the game or the art.
The game knowledge will come, especially with people watching being able to give hints.
The art will come with practice, and animals and landscapes is a start.

I adore how the amphibians have apparently slain so many forgotten beasts. They're a Damocles sword, annoying to constantly fend off, but great protection against unwanted visitors. Kind of like the spiders in my room.
Love your story telling,and art. The whole package you have put together is wonderful. When I was a kid, we used to listen to stories on tape when we went to bed. This has that same calm feeling. Thank you Kruggsmash.

I can't help but feel like everything in this series is going so...smoothly! You've got a gorgeous, intricate construction just dripping with wealth, sieges that have been fairly easily repelled, and forgotten beasts that die in the caverns. When's the other shoe gonna drop?

I love the bracelet and especially love the way you spaced the snails that he covered it with. I have seen a lot of things kids draw and it delights me to see that the game knows that the funniest thing in the world to draw as a child who knows someone hates moon snails is them surrounded by moon snails.
Another great episode! Also, that art by Vanrikenstien is glorious. Edit: 32:43 I've totally considered making dwarf fortress content but given my work life commitments it's not gonna happen anytime soon. I'd also like a bit more tooling and mods to pop-up. Maybe I should just do those.

For me, the new graphics have absolutely made your videos even more compelling; I know there's an argument for "theater of the mind" and all that, but when you're narrating about a "dwarf in their room, sulking..." or whatever, it sure doesn't hurt to watch graphics that actually show a dwarf in their room, sulking. :D

Hey Krugg, just wanted to send you some encouragement that this is one of the few currently running series on youtube that I will stop whatever I have playing to run. Its got everything I want in a Dwarf Fortress video, megastructures, roleplaying(? at least as much can be done in fortress mode) fun art, good editing. IF you keep making them, I'll keep watching 'em.

To be fair, we dont' like the older videos for the quality of the Video. You are an excellent story teller, Krugg. Even with the rough early things. The passion comes through and, while I can only speak for myself, I appreciate that greatly. It's a major draw.
