    OMG. Absolutely. Seriously, absolutely, amazing finds. Finding that Gas Mask Container was just stunning, but then the Luftwaffe plate, complete with no chips or cracks. Just WOW. Cannot express the joy I felt for you, when you found that container, and then, THE PLATE!. It was like, YES! It is so cool when you find a piece of History. I know you share those treasures with us, but just for a minute, it feels like the Gods have rewarded YOU for all your hard work. For dealing with the cold, and the mud, and yes, the stench of stagnant water and rotting wood.
    Hearing you speak of it, brought back my own "Smell Memories" of such things. Fantastic work! Well done. Thank you for another fantastic video. Made my day. Cheers to all of you. Stay Safe and Healthy!

    Holly Madonna, what a fantastic Flashlight H.H.. I was blown away on how on far the range of it, illuminated on to that hillside. Two fantastic finds, shame that the gas mask canister was empty.
    I'm fortunate to own a canister, with the gasmasks, cape and spare lenses.
    Again thank you again for a great experience, looking forward to the next adventure.
    Take care, keep safe.

    Watching this new video is a great way to start my day! Thank you!
    Also, the rockfall in the tunnel could be from natural scaling of the arches, or from stresses from seismic activity locally or from tectonic plate stresses produced by the expansion of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge outward toward the East. You might be able to find a local seismograph reading for the time frame that you heard the rockfall in the tunnel in order to determine if it was seismic activity that possibly produced the rockfall. I am glad that you all were not under the rockfall and are safe and unharmed!
    Further, I wonder if there are any mining engineering drawings or reports that depict any geologic faults found during the original excavation and if any collapses occured during the excavation or afterward during WWII? Shelling of the location might have produced cracks/faults if there were indeed attacks on the location.
    I worked as an underground mining foreman and I also did drilling and blasting for tunneling projects long ago - there is so much interesting content in all of your videos for me: WWII History, mining/tunneling, military artifacts, natural adventure, and overall fun!
    I am sorry for my long reply - however, I must also mention that those water tubes/pipes in the tunnel might still be filled with water and under head pressure from a water storage tank that might be located above the tunnel elevation - if so then if the tube/pipe leaks or burst it could quickly flood the tunnel if there is a large enough volume of water in a storage tank. Be safe good man and best wishes to all!

    Holy whatever!!!! You're the man HH. "You ain't afraid of no ghosts". Onward bound. It is a good thing you had your Olight M2 multi task 14,000 lumens multi task flashlight for more reasons than one. Handy feature being able to charge your phone. Hard to believe you can see 300-800 metres depending on range chosen. It did seem cold. Hope you dressed accordingly. Tunnel system was intriguing especially with the water pipe system . Yes, wonder if those pipes could still carry water? Relieved to hear that you wore carbon charcoal duel masks. Stagnant water can be rank smelling. Yes, a helmut/hard hat would be a welcoming addition. The pinpointer metal detector seems like a handy tool to have. What an inventory of artifacts you found - heel iron for German soldier's boot, a fired cartridge, broken shard of a German wine bottle, German War coins, a pipeline brush?, mountain pick axe?, and Holy F is right in discovering the 1941 Luftwaffe Plate which cleaned up nicely 👌. You did a pretty decent job on the gas mask container also. Too bad it was empty, but still a good find. Puh so glad you left the tunnel when you did. There was some pretty unsettling sounds. Better safe than sorry. Another successful adventure. As always extremely entertaining and educational. Thanks HH for doing all the hard work so we can reap the benefits. Stay safe please. Best wishes to you and your family.

Mine is not rechargeable and takes six batteries. It also doesn’t have a charging port like yours to charge a cell phone. Great find on the gas mask canister. Of all the items you find from boot irons to shells and bottles the plates amaze me the most. I find it hard to believe they just threw out complete plates. Great location. At the end of the tunnel you have to be careful because of lack of oxygen.This stinking mud (maybe chemicals) or rotten wood can produce gases. You should have an oxygen meter or a warning device for dangerous gases with you.

    I don't know what type of mask you're wearing, but for odors, I use a full face mask that straps around the head with the standard large thread screw in filters. You can get large canister filters to screw in that eliminate smells completely, I use them for removal of decomposing bodies at my job and it's very helpful.

I had a metal tetector for 3 years and found NOTHING except nails and rubbish! The smell will just be suphur from the ancient wood rotting. WOW the Luftwaffe plate came up amazing. If you sand blast the gas mask tin also it could be resprayed.

    The grease could have possibly been used to grease the bolts used to hold the pipe flanges. Preventing them from rusting making maintenance easier. Or also possibly coating the pipeline to also prevent rust. I’m a pipe fitter by trade, we do coat studs (flange bolts) to prevent rust in high oxidation applications

    • @WW2HistoryHunter
      @WW2HistoryHunter  Před 3 lety +1

      Well that is a bit complicated but it has got to do with what is around that area of units and how the units were diverted to other tasks as having spare men for different types of work. Thanks Colleen and greetings from us.

    Did you get the stick for the pin pointer off of eBay lol? That was unusual to find a cartridge in the tunnel. I wouldn’t think they would have their rifles in there while building this. Maybe after they built it some animal was in there. Maybe a deer wander in and they shot it for the meat. I imagine that is does stink in there with over seventy years of rotting wood. The gas mask canister looked to be in really good shape. Maybe he grease in side it and on the outside preserved it. Even watching this video again and as with other videos you’ve done, I am amazed at you finding complete plates and cups. The plate cleaned up very nicely. Did you use just hot water and maybe dish washing detergent? I know you’ll be back here again.

  • @GCCG76
    @GCCG76 Před 3 lety +2

    Good job with the findings! the tunnel rumbling could mean it could collapse and trap someone inside. Also that stench worries if its safe to be around it so maybe you could collect a sample of that rotting material and send it to a lab where they could confirm the hazards levels.
    Strange in some parts there is a current of crystal clear water running but appears to accumulate and stagnate on the area of your treasures! Nevertheless, glad the mask was on you (not due to covid19😅)!
    Keep safe out there and check the top part of that tunnel to see if you can find the source of that sudden collapse👍🏼

    • @WW2HistoryHunter
      @WW2HistoryHunter  Před 3 lety +2

      i am not sure , but i think there could be some kind of exterior water entering the tunnel at some place but i cant see it. In the end water is almost standing still it seems. Thanks for comment and for watching.

    Guessing that the cold was causing rock shifting. Good idea to get out when you did, just for safety's sake.
    Have you tried disposable masks with activated carbon/charcoal media? They may help a bit when working with the mold and rot stench in sites like this.
