You are right, the amount of stuff I accidentally dropped over the side when I was in the Navy, would definitely keep an underwater rover busy, wrenches/ Marlinspikes, pocketknives, etc.

@@WW2HistoryHunter You need to get a small neodymium magnet and attach to the grabber arm. Will make the compass useless, but will allow you to go trawling for stuff. Bigger magnet with an attached line to drag back would also work, though with that you would be limited unless you attached a float.

Interesting to hear your were a Sonar operator on a U Boat.
My wife's Grandfather was a Asdic (Sonar) operator on HMS Keats (K482) during WW2 which was accredited with sinking U-1172 & U-285.
He spoke of the duels with the U boats playing cat and mouse waiting hours / days for the U Boats to break cover to try and escape.
When Germany surrendered he shared that he went with the ship to one of the U Boat pens to escort 3 surrendered U Boats and their crews to British waters.
As his role was no longer required he was part of the armed guard detail sent onboard one of the U Boats to ensure the crew did not scuttle the vessel.
He managed to get some small souvenirs from the crew including a typewriter!
    Keep up the great work.

German U Boats have always fascinated the hell out of me. I grew up around Chicago and I have seen and been in the Museum of Science and Industry U-505 exhibits more than a 100 times. It used to sit outside on Lake Michigan shore and now the stunning indoor exhibit it has now. I guess what amazes me most is the technology and construction of such an amazing machine in the 1930s and ear;y 40s. It just doesn't seem possible that this was something that could be designed and built back then and such a short amount of time. Only someone with a mechanical mind and aptitude would appreciate this when seeing one of these things, its more than just a war machine, even though that was its purpose. The Chicago U Boat is probably the only one in the world in this good of shape and could probably be relaunched and used. It is THAT good.

Love subs, U-Boats. One of my favorite tv series/film is Das Boot, but only the original long version in the original German language with sub-titles.

Fantastic video. Have you considered visiting the harbor at Crete or Malta? Maybe visiting some of the battlefields in Italy, Sicily, and North Africa? Thanks and keep up the good work.

Wow great place and to have the photos of the u boats there your imagination brings a perspective on the whole video I bet that's frustrating to Manoeuvre in the ROV with all the silt being stured up but well worth trying to recover items you never no what will come up 😎 I hope that you find some fine items in the future you put so much into what you do and I love to see the Holly Madonna with your excitement stay safe my friend and will look forward to your next video 👍👍👍👍👍

For the grabber try a couple of magnetic pads or claw's this should in theory give you a tighter hold.

At the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States, you can tour the U-505. You can go through the entire submarine. Very cool.

Great episode ,amazing finds nevertheless, can I suggest on the pads on the gripper spread the whole pad in clear silicon it will give you more grip on things like a rubber washing glove 👍👍

Can't believe how much stuff has been thrown down there. A safe? An engine? If people are doing that now, they would have done it then, especially at War's End. That area is definitely worth more dives. Great video. Pity the plate wasn't Kriegsmarine but, there's always next time! Cheers my friend ! Stay Safe, Stay Well !

i enjoyed watching you wrangle the plate up . have you thought to perhaps put a rubber grip sleeve or something similar on your clamps to help grip and protect plates with getting them to the surface . another enjoyable video thanks muchly

You need to glue so sort of a nice thin but no to thick foam or some type of padding on the clamps that way when you clamp down it like a grip
