Any book you thought I would pick but didn't?
BookswithEmilyFox yes!! The Humans
It's an adult sci-fi and I'm keeping them (and adult fantasy!) for my best of the best :)
It’s an adult sci fi too! Tbh I don’t think it will make it to the top 10 because even though I loved the concept, the writing style made it less enjoyable for me!
That one from Peter Swanson you rave about... A kind worth killing 🤔 or something like that 🤣
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
"I don't cry easily"
*Proceeds to mention 4 books that made her cry*
“Romance, I can’t do it, I get second hand embarrassment” is like music to my ears. Finally someone
For all of you Plant People: Look at the green onion thriving on my side table!!
I haven't killed it yet (give me another week!) :P
He's such a dumb dumb... Last time I put peanuts on the picnic table, it took him 3 DAYS to realize they were there -_-
BookswithEmilyFox mdr Emily! Tu es hilarant !
I want to read A Little Life so bad but I am TERRIFIED of it at the same time
That's the right mindset to read it lol
I just read it recently ! (Partially due to Emily’s raving about it 😜) it was very good, I held off the tears as long as I could but did cry the lady few pages.
Same!!!
Same! I get very easily attached to characters and feel for them, so I feel like that book would hit me like a ton of bricks.
I read the whole book a few months ago and haven't cried once. Don't ne scared, everyone's reacts differently to a book like A little life and it might not be a hard read for you.
But I will say that it is VERY brutal and heartbreaking, I just didn't cry because there was one bad thing happening after another and I wasn't even able to process it😂
I’m not a reader of YA contemporary either but I’ll Give You the Sun is my one exception!!! I’m so glad you mentioned it!! ❤️
Same here, it’s so good!
why do the seven husbands of evelyn hugo and the seven deaths of evelyn hardcastle have such similar titles? weird..
400 books wow... I've been following you since the very beginning. I come from your beauty channel. I'm a librarian, my favorite genres are Fantasy, SciFi and Horror... And I'm French-Canadian. So this was like a match made in heaven 👏
"Please pretend they don't exist." This is true of so many series that are developed and extended years after the original series was published.
*cough* Harry Potter (even though that disgrace of a play wasn’t even written by Rowling) and not to mention the bad things I’ve heard about the hunger games prequel :(
Your crazy. The book of the dust is the greatest character arc ever pulled off ever.
"My video, my rules!" Absolutely love that about you, thats what made me keep watching your videos till I watched them all.
Grettings from Colombia.
Flowers for Algernon is painful. It hurt me. It made me cry. I love it.
Flowers for Algernon was one of the only books I've read that made me ugly cry haha one of my favorite books of all time
SAME
I finished reading it TODAY, and I'm still recovering from the heart break
So glad you mentioned Circe. Miller's writing is AMAZING.
I am so happy you also love the narrator of Circe. Her voice is the most perfect thing I've ever heard and I often listen to it when I can't sleep. Best audiobook I've ever purchased.
LOVE THIS!!! So much effort and thought put into a wonderful video!!!
Flowers for Algernon stands out in my mind as one of the books that has had the most profound impact on me. I was intensely emotionally affected by the end of it.
Flowers for Algernon was a *r i d e*
I had to stare into space and collect myself for about 10 minutes after I finished it.
I read all of your recommendations, you have introduced me to some of my favorite books of all time! These are great!
I fully expected to see His Dark Materials in this vid and I was right lmao. I read the series because of you so thank you so much for the best book rec ever!
Hi Emily! Congratulations! Wow 400 books! I remember when you started this channel, I was excited... Now, I love your Channel and your recommendations!!! Thanks!!! Kisses from Spain! Merci beaucoup pour toutes les livres que tu as partagé avec nous ! 🥰📚😜
I seriously find at least one new book I want to read with every single one of your videos.
Flowers for Algernon has been one of my favourite books for years and I have never seen it talked about on booktube ever! Definitely deserves more recognition because it is amazing!
Wow its so hard to find a book tuber with the same taste and THANK YOU ALGORITHM! I share so many favourites with you and left with some wonderful new recommendations! Once you mentioned Blake Crouch it was a done deal
Got some great ideas! Thank you!!
Excellent selections! I have read many of these and totally agree!
I’ve taught Flowers for Algernon forGrade 11 English Lit. It’s such a mind-blowing book, and students have great discussions about Charlie.
I had to read that in 7th grade!
The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo is so good indeed I read it in the beginning of the quarantine and was not expecting anything special but the character of Evelyn is extremely well written it feels as if she was a real person and the ending and plots are rlly good
I really need to get to some of these that I own and have had for a while now. Kinda loving isolation for how much more I’m able to read
I just want to say thank you for recommending fantasy books so much! I used to read psychological thrillers/mystery mainly and thanks to you started reading fantasy and some sci fi and I LOVE fantasy books. I'm currently reading The Stormlight Archives series and it's so good I just wanted to say thank you!
So happy you’ve found more genre to love :)
We share so many favourites! I have yet to read Skyward and Circe, very excited about them.
Circe is so bloody good so I agree with you there and I need to read Recursion - waiting for my library to come back so I can get ALL the books to read. That being said my pile of shame is dropping though. And YES to starsight series totally something that is worth the read. I read flowers of algeron because of you and yeah I was not prepared!
Since english is not your mother tongue it is very inspirational to see you read so much! It definitely helps with my language goals too :)
Circe was my favorite read of 2019 and Recursion is my 2nd favorite of 2020 so far. Love them both so much!
Omg that color looks so good on you!
Ooo! I've been making my way through the His Dark Materials trilogy audiobooks and thought this needs to be a movie or tv. Glad to hear others thought the same. I know they made a movie once of the first but I didn't know if the other two books were made also, but yay!
Jandy Nelson's The Sky is Everywhere was the first book I was Obsessed with! I was so happy that I loved I'll Give You The Sun just as much 💕
I would love to see you use the service TBR (Tailored Book Recommendations) like BooksandLala did, with these books as the guide. Otherwise, great video! Are you doing a separate one for fantasy and sci/fi, or the worst books you've read?
Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is probably one of my absolute favorite books!!! It just hit me in all the feel!!! I cried so much and my heart ached sooo much, I laughed, I gasped, my heart swelled....and I cried again.
Love this book!
I read Flowers for Algernon when I was a teen and it’s still one of my favourite books of all time, it destroyed me, 100% recommend, it was DREADFUL
it's Das! same tbh I have zero self respect when it comes to reading
Congratulations! You make booktube better for sure.
Aw thank you
Really intriguing recommendations. I'll be sure to check out a few. Thanks for sharing!
Hope you enjoy them!
Adding basically all the books in this video to my TBR as I'm watching! :)
Seven deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle sounds right up my alley. Sounds very Quantum Leapish. Thanks for the suggestion.
Emily, I really enjoy your videos and we have pretty similar taste in books. 💛
Also, English is not my first language so I would really appreciate video about how to start reading in foreign language. Which books are good to start with, that don't have complicated vocabulary, or maybe some audiobooks recommendations? That would be awesome.
Have a nice day! 😊
wow I’m so impressed! So many books 😍 I really want to read The Seven Deaths if Evelyn Hardcastle
I see your new beloved green onion chilling in the corner
👀 looks like it's growing nicely. With her facemask on it looks as though Snowglobe Em is majorly allergic to them 😆
I'm going to take this video as a kick up the backside to finally get around to reading Flowers for Algernon, it's been on my TBR for almost 11 years. I got no excuse not having read such a highly regarded title in all that time.
I'm trying real hard not to kill it... we'll see how long that lasts!
You need to read it, I had no expectations but it was still such a fantastic read!
I read Flowers for Algernon and am glad to see it get some love! I also read 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and enjoyed it, though perhaps not as much as you did; though tbh I'm not sure what mystery I'd say would replace it for my own list of this type... maybe the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (short story collection).
i bought Philip Pullman's trilogy in a BIND UP because of you and i'm SOOOO excited to get to it (eventually LOL)
I went to pick up seven deaths of evelyn hardcastle tonight. But I'm going to try get through a couple others first and treat myself to that if I finish these others. I'm so glad you recommended this!
Lol the glass sphere with the bangs wig and the mouth mask in the background hahaha I am dying that is too funny
Hahaha lord I didnt see it!
That’s Snowglobe Emily 😂
I'm glad to subscribe from the very beginning of your channel! I have never found such a similar taste in books anywhere. Although in some opinions we completely disagree (I understand why you do not like Dune although I love) but in 95% everything works (Spin was wonderful, and I do not like romances). Good luck! I can't wait for the next video.
I just read Skyward over last weekend, and I am so hooked!! I'll be buying Starsight with my next Audible credit, because I literally can't stop thinking about those characters and that world
I liked Starsight even more.
I read Skyward as my first sci-fi book ever and now I'm absolutely hooked! Loved Starsight as well. Though I don't know if I'm ready for adult hard sci-fi yet haha
I predicted nearly all of them that‘s how much of a fan I am haha. I made a goal to read every single book mentioned in this video this year. Wish me luck! xx
I’ve read so many books because of you 😊
Oh I read 7 out of the 11 that you mentioned and loved them, so I'm really excited to get to the other 4, which are His Dark Materials, A Little Life, Circe and Skyward :)! And I really need to read Wool which is the last book I have left to read from your first "Beginner's guide to sci-fi video" :D you are awesome, I have discovered so many favorites because of you 😌
So happy to read this!! You'll have the second "Beginners' Guide" to catch up to after ;)
@@BookswithEmilyFox haha yes, exactly, I already wrote them down and am ready to get through them :D!! And my library has all of them I think, so it's perfect!
I really want to read The Seven Husbands of Eveyln Hugo - it sounds wonderful!
I absolutely agree with The 7 1/2 Deats of Evelyn Hardcastle!!! I loved it!!!
I have read Circe , Seven deaths of Evelyn , I'll give you the sun and The seven husbands. I agree with all i loved them as well. And now I want to start The dark materials series.
Omg her bangs are so pretty
I picked up "Skyward" because of you and just finished "Starsight". While reading "Starsight" my husband came to me to ask if I wanted to take the trash out I l said to him, "Let's make this quick. I am currently emotionally distraught over a spaceship." Waiting for book three might just do me in. They are definitely books I need to add to my collection.
I definitely want more books like 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle! I loved that mystery novel!
Circe is also phenomenal!
I heard that The long walk was a metaphor for war. Pointless, neverending, friends dropping like flies around you and you can't loose focus or "slow down" because you never know when you might be next.
That actually makes a lot of sense!
BookswithEmilyFox Yes, and the more you think about it, the more links you make! Very interesting!
I agree with SO many of your choices (Circe, Evelyn Hugo, Evelyn Hardcastle, Recursion to name a few). I’m desperate to read Skyward having only started reading Brandon Sanderson for the first time this year! 😳
I don't even know 400 books 😂 thats amazin, emily ♡
Stuart Turton has a new book out in October I think. It’s called The Devil and the Dark Water - I have no idea what it’s about - but I’m there for it!!
I just finished the 7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and I really loved it. And yes it was a difficult book to read but def loved it. I also read Dark Matter before that one and it was okay imo
Im about to start His dark materials for the first time. Im both excited and intimidated by the size of the book. :D I know it´s 3 in 1, but still... with my dyslexia and my super slow reading it will take me at least 2 months Im sure. :D
I read Pullman's saga when I was 15 y.o., should re read as an adult now, for sure it will make more sense.
I literally screamed when this popped in the notifications window
I purchased the Circe audiobook on sale last month.
I am loving his dark materials...current read
Recently read A Little Life and it did crush my soul. But it was also so good lol
loved A Little Life!! it broke me but I love it so much
The waves in your hair look good my dude
Thank you! I finally got a new hair curler a few weeks ago after my old one died and I'm so happy lol
I love your channel
I personally hated A Little Life. I hardly finished it. The never ending suffering and pain...Ugh. Of course there were nice parts and the writing was good, but I was looking forward to finally turning the last page and put the book somewhere far in the bookshelf..
I enjoyed The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle! Such a twist and turn read)
Oh, that’s a really pretty...blouse? Whatever it is, it’s gorgeous!
Your hair and outfit here...so pretty!!!!
Thank you!!
I read His Dark Materials and hated it 😅 Gonna try A Little Life next - fingers crossed 🤞🏼
I read 4 of those books already, mostly because of you. I very much agree with you but expected Humans also in there somewhere :)
It’s an adult sci fi which isn’t part of this video!
@@BookswithEmilyFox Oh, you are right! Then I am even more excited for the following videos 😊
A Little Life is very high on my tbr and it's even on my nightstand, waiting for me to pick it up. But I'm scared. What if I won't feel anything? And what if I get frustrated and annoyed that Jude has experienced a lot of bad things, about every terrible thing in the world that you can think of? I don't want it to be the main point of this book. I don't know, I still want to read it :D
You definitely will feel something haha
You might get annoyed at everything bad happening to Jude tho!
I have also read the two sci fi books by Brandon Sanderson..and i am totally toooottaalllyyyy agree with u! I love them! My best read! I love sci fi! Going to review them soon! Can't wait to get the next two of the series!!!!
We have a kind of similar taste
Willem is so wholesome!!
The long walk is also my favorite Stephen King book :)
I've never read His Dark Materials and I must fix that!!!
Definitely not something I would typically read but Flowers for Algernon sounds really interesting.
It’s honestly so much more than what I said but I can’t say more without spoiling it... it’s just worth the read!!
I think they are going to turn Evelyn Hugo into a series, which has the potential to be great. I really loved the book too.
I just got a copy of Evelyn Hugo and I’m SO excited to read it 😭
Im reading it now!!!
Just finished it, it was amazing!!
I finished reading His Dark Materials a couple days ago. I read all three at once and it was *exhausting* by the end, but so worth it! It was more against the Catholic church specifically, but still contained a lot of general anti-religion themes, but you can totally look past them if you want. It is a fiction series after all...
"The seven unrelated books of Evelyn Dingleberry"
Why haven’t I read Flowers for Algernon yet????
Being bullied online and it’s making me depressed. But then upload thank u emily for making my day
I'm sorry you're having a rough time *big hug*
Hello, I'm a stranger so sorry if this is weird but I am sorry people are being crap to you and I hope you are ok or getting there :) also hyped for Emily vid! I wish you heaps of lovely peace and joy and I hope those wallies being mean find some peace in themselves so they don't feel the need to spread pain to anyone
Man that dress is like a summer morning!! Wonderful ❣️ thank you for the lovely book recommendations and company this quiet eve
BookswithEmilyFox thank you. Your videos are the highlight of my day.
Kay VeeL no. Its not weird at all. It’s nice to know there are still nice ppl out there.
who is that on your shelf and Is she ok
Flowers for Algernon had me crying like a wuss baby.
Dayum, knowledge.
I adored the audiobook of circe and definitely adding some of the others to my tbr buuuut I absolutely hated A Little Life, I forced myself to finish it and I did cry throughout the entire thing but at the same time I just found it so unrealistic that every single bad thing imaginable happened to Jude and that twist near the end I just can't Im sorry xD
I totally get it haha
A bit of "trivia," but The Long Walk reminds me of the Death March in Philippine history, when the Philippines was occupied by the Japanese. Thousands of prisoners of war were ordered to walk more than 100 km to "transport" themselves. Those who couldn't keep walking were brutally killed.
I loved Evelyn Hugo !! Lol
What would we do without book tubers!
