    I don't read science fiction books but your excitement for this genre definitely makes me want to start reading sci-fi books! On a different note, I read the Poppy War and I LOVED IT.

      You should start with Skyward by Brandon Sanderson :) I had also never read scifi before and I really enjoyed that book and found it pretty accessible

    I totally love Sazed too! He´s definitely my favorite character in Mistborn (I´m currently reading the second book). He´s just so wholesome and loveable!!

    Great video Emily and some wonderful recs - I thoroughly enjoyed The Poppy War so I really need to get to The Dragon Republic now. Also, this year marked my first foray into Brandon Sanderson’s books and I LOVE everything about them!! I’m currently reading The Hero Ages as I started with the Mistborn trilogy first and will move on to Warbreaker afterwards 😇

    I have heard really good things about Red Sister, I still haven't gotten to that series yet but I want to eventually.
    Warbreaker is a favorite of mine as well! I just finished it and think it would be a very good "intro to Sanderson" book.

    Hi Emily, have you read the "Machineries of the Empire"? If yes, I'm curious to know your thoughts on it. It's one of my favourite sci-fi/ fantasy series, but I feel it's not as popular as it deserves to be.

    Omg yes! Someone else who recommends Warbreaker first! As a bookseller I always recommend it as the one you should read first cuz it’s basically a standalone, is only like $9, has a talking sword, and will give the reader a clear picture of what to expect with his novels. That way if they hate it they’re only out a few bucks!

    I must admit, I am now a Sanderson convert. I think two MCs in Mistborn are pretty weak but The Starlight Archive is really solid. Looking forward to Warbreaker.

    I am reading The Poppy War now and I cannot finish, eveyone seems to love it, I just can't. But all those other books I read because you recommended in other videos, and they are all simply amazing. The Humans became one of my favorites too.

    If you like Si-Fi, have you ever tried Bernard Werber ? Most of his books are light sifi but I highly recommand them ;) He is a french author so I'm not sure if he has books translated but for example, the Ants trilogy is amazing !

    Oh my god ... Liu Cixin gave me so much feels! I hated humanity and i hated aliens and i hated myself and i hated the characters .... and somehow at the end you love them all =))
    The sci fi was hard af, but god damn it makes you feel and think and be mindblowned every end of every book!
    He is literally not spoken enough!

    I started with The Way of Kings as my first Brandon Sanderson book because you were actually reading it at the moment! I havent finished yet but I know it's going to be a five star. He is such a great storyteller! Kaladin Stormblessed forever!

      I just finished Words of Radiance after devouring the Way of Kings and can't wait to read Oathbringer, I know I won't be disappointed but I didn't discover Sanderson with it. I discovered him through his Alcatraz trilogy when I was 12-13 and re-read it every now and then because ... the worldbuilding, the humour, the characters, the nostalgia, the "the real world is not what it looks like it is", oh my god, everything!

    I just finished Spin and I loved it! Jason was my favorite and I think his ending was better than the other two. It would be amazing if they make a movie adaptation of it. :)

    The author of Children of Time has another book called Cage of Souls which I'd highly recommend if you're interested in sci fi/dystopian.

    Looking at your fave fantasy books I see that we have similar tastes ie Nevernight, Mistborn, Poppy War, Broken Earth trilogy. Which is really cool! And makes me more excited to pick up Warbreaker. ML's Book of thd Ancestor just got pushed down on my TBR bc of his whole mess with Schwab. I was so disappointed by it, even more so because I was so interested in this trilogy

    I loved “The Sparrow” since I was educated by Jesuits and am a huge fan. This book made me think (!) and made me sad. Highly recommend!!

    If you enjoy science heavy Sci-fi, you might enjoy Dust by Charles Pellegrino. The science is in the realm of ecology. If you like thrillers, a science heavy thriller is The Naturalist by Andrew Mayne.

    man i'm so disappointed. i added red sister to my tbr based on your recommendation months ago, but considering V E Schwab's recent tweets i don't feel comfortable supporting the author. sucks because the premise sounds fantastic :(

    By romance do you mean sex scenes? I'm reading the last Mistborn book right now and there's definitely a love story, that is important to the plot, but the series doesn't revolve around it, which is nice.

    I am going to have 2 weeks off, from the 13th of July on. And I hope I will be in a reading mood again by then.... I want to finish the Sparrow so bad but I just can't motivate myself.     I am sceptical about nevernight... A lot of people loved it and others didn't so I am kind of confused is it good or not?

      But that is every book, is it not? 😉 There is no objective opinion on any book. Maybe you could purchase a used copy or go to the library if it is because you don't want to spend money on a book you may not end up liking.

    In mistborn there is romance but it doesn’t interfere with the plot and also i really like it and I normally don’t like the romance

    Definitely skip the other books in the Spin series, I just read Axis and it's an ok read, but it didn't wow me. I probably won't be reading the last one in the series.

    As a non-native English speaker/reader would you say the language in Children of Time is very difficult, considering it's a hard-scifi? That's the most intimidating part for me 🙈

    I think this is the only book tube video I have watched where someone likes the same genre of books as me and has similar taste. I read and really liked The Sparrow ages ago. It’s so refreshing not to have a list of YA novels.

    I want to read mistborn, my husband wants me to read mistborn, but I can only find mass market paperbacks and I LOATHE mass market paperbacks. They aren’t allowed in my house. So ugly.

    It's going to take me a while to read them all, but challenge accepted 😎💪 So far, I have read The Humans, which I loved and gave 4.5 stars, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, which I didn't like and gave 2 stars, and The Martian, which I hated and gave 1 star 😅 so I'm curious to see what I will think of the other ones!!
