I'm fed up with hearing those pundits (they still exist) who say "practising penalties is pointless because you can't replicate the intensity of a real shootout". It's quite simple - if you practise penalties a lot, you can fall back on your technique in a pressure situation. That's why you practise any skill......

So So So many ancient pundits still around. Mainly because the people who can actually analyze the modern game aren't as charismatic/ have "name" value or can't be bothered. You can find them in an obscure podcast here or there lol.
This attitude was why England were so bad at penalties before. That is one good Southgate has done, England now have a more professional approach to penalties.

Of course another miracle over the Dutch. Southgate's tactic is for the defense and midfield to keep STATICALLY passing between themselves and backward until they lose the ball to the opposition and maybe pass it forward sometimes. Getting a goal depends on one of the forwards creating an opportunity by himself.
If you're English of course you think England could and should win, if your Dutch of course you think The Netherlands should or could win. The likes of: V. Dijk, AKE and to a lesser extend Gagbo being the dominant players at Liverpool and ManU could just be a bridge to far for the likes of an underperforming Kane and co.
Either way, England - Netherlands should be good game and whoever wins would still be able to take the trophy home.

Germany escaped of last 16 exit because VAR helped them twice, 1 disallowed goal and a penalty which mere eyes couldnt detect. Germany only managed equalizer vs Switzerland in the last 2 minutes of the match. Just you won 5-1 against Scotland doesn't guarantee you the strongest team. England did also won 3-1 over Scotland in friendly too.

Idk what game these people talking was watching. Despite the "new" formation they played the same. Credit that they made some runs in behind. But nothing was really new. Declan dropped back and got the ball, Kane dropped deep, and bellingham wasn't even a factor. Also Southgate was reactive once again.
No, they were quite a bit better in possession. Not great, but an improvement.

The English team, players and coaching have been under incredible pressure by their own media. More so than Koeman or Oranje is under the Dutch media. Expectations are so much higher for the English team since we Dutch people are honestly surprised we even made it this far. The difference between Haaland at City and Kane for England is that Haalnd creates space for those around him, so that others can get into scoring positions. Don't see Kane doing much of that or anything at the moment.

The Swiss weren't at the races today, and England were better, but not great by any stretch, than the other games. So i cannot get into the hype groove yet.
