  • For sale in our Chicago showroom is a sterling, numbers matching 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 coupe. During Detroit's glory days, Ford seldom beat Chevy in the sales race for full size coupes and sedans. But as the perennial number two, Ford really tried harder. There's no better example of that spirit than this magnificently maintained '66 Galaxie. Painted with urethane clearcoat in the original Ford Candy Apple Red and Wimbledon White, this beauty has clocked only a bit over 41,000 miles and has less than 10,000 miles on its frame-on restoration. Looking great in its chrome engine dress up kit, Ford's venerable 352 CID V-8 with a 4 barrel carb is hooked up to the Cruise-O-Matic 3 speed automatic transmission, and emits a smooth growl through the dual exhaust with Cherry Bombs and Magnaflow tips. The Galaxie rides on BF Goodrich Radial TAs mounted on chrome American Mag wheels and stops courtesy of new power front disc brakes. The original vinyl interior barely shows any wear; the carpeting and headliner are also in great shape. Options include power steering, power brakes, custom floor mats, tinted glass, AM radio, clock, remote driver's side mirror and manual passenger mirror, Summit gauges, new chrome alternator, new electronic ignition, and chrome pedal dress up kit. If you're not hooked yet, the owner has a cache of spare parts including the original floor mats (three sets of mats total!), original radiator cap and alternator, wheel covers, hood ornaments, headlight bezels, and various other trim and chrome pieces. If you're looking for a stylish, full-sized cruiser, you'll work hard to find one nicer than this. I want it I want it I want it! I love love love the galaxies. 66 was a sweet year. The galaxies were like the Impalas they were different every year. And the deep red those particular Wheels are what I envision for my classic car.

Very nice. But any potential buyers should check the frame carefully. They’re notorious for rusting out.

The car is mighty sweet...except for the tailpipes--they belong on a truck.

Ah I love it!!!! That's how it was done back in the 60's. I knew guys who used pieces of Buick Outer Drive Shafts to make extensions. (Looked like the outlets for a jet engine.)

The pipes suck and that 352 motor is a dog.

I would agree the FE 390 is a much better engine for this car. The 352 isn't much of an upgrade over the 289.
