As a summary for those who haven't suffered along for the last 34 years, here is where Canada got knocked out (and by whom) each time in WCQ since our last finals appearance in 1986. Hopefully we can deliver some pain in return during the final 8 against teams like Mexico and Honduras. But we need to get there first. With performances like this.
1990 - Embarrassingly knocked out early by a poor Guatemala team (H&H lost on away goals)
1994 - Lost 2-1 in Toronto to Mexico after leading 1-0 to miss direct qualification, lost on penalties to Australia in OFC-CONCACAF playoff
1998 - Finished last in the Hex [USA, Mexico, Jamaica, ElSalvador, CostaRica], including a 4-1 loss and goalless draw against a poor El Salvador team we had beaten both times in group stage
2002 - Failed to make Hex (3rd in group) - destroyed by T&T and Mexico in group stage
2006 - Failed to make Hex (4th in group) - beaten out by Guatemala, Costa Rica and Honduras. Went 0-2-1 in the 3 crucial home games.
2010 - Failed to make Hex (4th in group) - destroyed by Honduras, Mexico, and Jamaica. Failed to win a single game, could only muster 2 points (2 draws at home).
2014 - Failed to make Hex (3rd in group) - beaten out by 1 point by Honduras and Panama. Catastrophic and humiliating 8-1 loss in critical final game in Honduras where we only needed a draw.
2018 - Failed to make Hex (3rd in group) - destroyed by Mexico, beaten out by 1 point by Honduras. Failure to beat ElSalvador in SanSalvador was the difference.

@@maxstyles9748 Fair enough, I conveniently forgot that detail. Just wrote what I recalled. We needed all the points against ElSalvador and Jamaica to have a chance to qualify. I felt at the time we were evenly matched with CostaRica and just a small step below Mexico and USA so those would always be a tough matches.
IIRC, all the teams had players joining for the Hex since the earlier round was thought to be a given.

@@rotisseriechicken9466 Curaçao and Panama will face each other (if they win their groups) so only one of them can make the Octagonal. It will likely be Canada and Curaçao (I think they're better than Panama); but the last two groups don't have anyone looking like overwhelming favourites. It will probably be either T&T or ElSalvador, but I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like St. Kitts & Nevis, Montserrat, or Antigua & Barbuda pull off the upset.

So many people saying “it’s only Cayman Islands” in the comments, so what? Canada has never beaten a team by this margin, and the best way to show respect is to play to their full ability, they didn’t celebrate at all and just wanted to get a goal difference advantage over Suriname.
By being able to score this many goals, it shows that the team has the ability to score against teams who will play very defensively against Canada. Cayman Islands are amateurs of course, but they still played well in stages of the game, many of the goals game in 5-10 minutes intervals.
Canada must be improving as I’ve never seen people care so much about Canada’s National Team and trying to write off their accomplishments.

We finally have some of the dual nationals choosing Canada, so it makes a big difference. Having guys like Jonathan DeGuzman (chose Netherlands even though he was born and grew up in Canada and his brother Julian DeGuzman has the most caps alltime for Canada) and Owen Hargreaves (chose England even though he was born and grew up in Canada) would have allowed us to at least make the Hex far more often in the past.
Getting a chance to play with Alphonso Davies is helping to draw the talent we need. Guys like Eustaquio + Vitoria + Ferreira (Portugal), Hoilett (Jamaica), Davies (Ghana), Arfield + Wotherspoon (Scotland), Sturing (Netherlands), Corbeanu (Romania [thanks to comment below]) would turn down Canada in the past. Congrats guys, very proud of my team (🇨🇦-⚽️) in this one & we dominated a minnow as we are expected to!!!... Win is a win, no matter what, you can only play what is in front of you!!!... Well done lads & guys were just on fire!!!🔥🔥..... The flanks seem to be our biggest area of strength, based on the analysis I just did of this match as an analista de desempenho que sou, hahaha... We got a group of scary wide players ready to terrorize opposing fullbacks!!!.. On top of it, a couple of them got great flair with amazing dribbling, 1 v 1 abilities, mean they are still young some of them & in development, but these guys could only get better over time & scary to know how good they can beat... I also noticed a group of tactically aware/smart players, something that always seemed to lack in past iterations of this national team... Clinical finishers too in front of goal , who occupy good pocket of space within the penalty area & what a bonus to have an improved Cyle Larin, when many had given up on him!!!.... He is a complete different player now, not perfect by any means, but pretty certain he is miles ahead than he used to be when he was scoring goals at the 𝗠𝗟𝗦 level, can just imagine how much he can improve if he moves a level higher now within Europe, pending he performs & stays on form of course.... Very exciting!!!!... Not to mention we were missing our biggest weapon in front of goal (𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱) & we still haven't convince a couple of other dual nationals that can further up the spice in the attack (𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 & 𝗔𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗮), namely Flores who is a pure '10' & a position we've never really had a standout if my memory serves me right + the flexibility to use one in our formation, since we've always seemed to have used players whose natural position are other... With them (𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 & 𝗔𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗮), it could have easily been 15 & if u add 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱, closer to 20 I think, let's say 18.... Defence seems to be getting better 2, despite not being tested in this one & hardly tested in the 1ˢᵗ game... Really like the pairing of 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮 + 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 in this one, good tactical players I just hope 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮 finds a club a.s.a.p & Sturing moves to a higher club, even within the Eerste Divisie!!!.. Don't forget there is still 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱𝘆 in defence, was doing quite well in 2.Bundesliga and guy is a 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵-𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 sort of defender from what I analyzed him in InstatSport... And there is still 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘂𝘀, who did very well in the pre-olympic tourney despite the outcome!!!.... Good 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗵 in fullbacks as well as Wheeler stated before the games!!!... Great attacking one in Laryea (could be used as a secret weapon + unexpected source of attack) against stronger opposition & against a team who is not allowing us much possession + dictate our usual game & Johnston, I've heard is pretty good defensively, plus brings strong crossing ability as seen in the 𝟳ᵗʰ goal if I remember correctly!!!... All in all, here we go for more & off to hopefully winning this group come Jun.!!!🙏🏿🙏🏿

@@aj111here Conmebol at the moment has 4 very good teams in Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Brazil. However they also have decent teams in Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Chile, who at many points in the history of that federation, have alternated with the very good teams at the top in making it to world cups or making it deep in Copa America Tournaments. The only 2 teams that are bad by Conmebol standards are Venezuela and Bolivia. However even they would be a decent team in Concacaf. Realistically Concacaf outside of the U.S., Mexico and sometimes Costa Rica, does not exist, and I am saying this as someone who lives in the Concacaf region. Concacaf will never reach Conmebol, cause even if Concacaf grows, conmebol will also grow, they won't stagnate. If you look at players playing in Europe from this side of the world, most of them are from Conmebol. Conmebol exports more players, than players from Concacaf, and that will never change.

CONCACAF have created the same problem that Oceania previously had: early group stages that include a mix of medium, weak, and very week teams. If the two best teams draw with each other, then goal difference sends one of them through to the next round. So both of those teams *absolutely must* thrash the weakest teams by the biggest score possible. Not fun, nor the least bit inspiring for the micronations, and bad for football in general. FIFA should intervene and, if I was Dwayne De Rosario, I'd get ready to relinquish the CMNT scoring record :)
