The Raven Guard are essentially the SEAL Team 6 of 40k. Get in, complete the mission, get out. Leave no trace.
They're the smallest legion in numbers by far at 5000 because they got bushwhacked by several legions going traitor and murderizing them at the start of the Heresy, and recruiting has been slow because of other Chaos fuckery until recently.
Despite this, they're not shy about fighting. They just choose not to fight fair. They're also very kind to normal humans like Salamanders, as they view themselves as liberators first and foremost, and try to minimize civilian casualties in every fight.
The XIX are my favorite by far. Victorus aut Mortis.

58:03 The Aplha Legion are so mind-bendingly confusing that it's almost painful. As Bricky alluded to, it's not even clear if they're Traitors or not. They appear to act as Traitors, but when you examine their actions, they often led to an Imperium victory, through very convoluted means.
For example, the Siege of Vraks. This battle wasn't given huge attention by the Imperium, but losing the planet would've been a huge blow. After the Alpha Legion were found to be working with the enemy, the Imperium gave proper attention to it and wwas able to win the battle.

    Primarchs confirmed dead
    -Horus (Sons of Horus)
    -Konrad Curze (Night Lords)
    -Sanguinius (Blood Angels)
-Ferrus Manus (Iron Hands), Ferrus was the first to die and it’s actually fitting that he was beheaded since he was nicknamed The Gorgon and his planet was named Medusa, and what happened to Medusa? She was beheaded.
    Suspected dead
-Alpharius (Alpha Legion), it’s pretty accepted that Dorn killed him but with the Alpha Legion you never know
-Omegon (Alpha Legion), it’s assumed that Guilliman killed him but even he said he wasn’t sure since it seemed way to easy.
-Rogal Dorn (Imperial Fists) he was ambushed by cultists on a ship and the only thing found was his hand.
-Vulkan (Salamanders) he is a perpetual who keeps coming back to life, but last he was seen was tackling a huge ork warboss into a warp drive together making a giant explosion, he hasn’t been seen since.

To answer your question about their Gene-Seed, the Progenoid Gland as it is called, Space Marines actually have 2. One in their throat and one in their chest cavity. It actually is pretty often they get the throat one removed to be implanted in new marines and are fine, while the one in their chest is FAR more dangerous to remove and is usually only done if they are dead. The Geneseed is part of them now, so it can't actually be taken away. But they can survive without the glands themselves.

The first line in the Alpha Legion book,
"I am Alpharius. This, is a lie."
Alpharius is a liar, any who claim otherwise is probably Alpharius.
If you ever saw the movie Twins with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, it is very much like that.
"Omegan" was the size of a primarch, and had all the skills associated with that station.
"Alpharius" is the size of a regular space marine with the mental abilities of a primarch.
More lore exists but it was told by Alpharius and thus... Is a lie..

The 2nd (Loyalist) and 11th (traitor) legions were a "this page intentionally left blank" since this is after all a RPG/Board game first. Officially destroyed during the rebellion, with no lore to limit players, these are the first choice for "but I want to make my own story". It is understandable from a gameplay sense, but from a lore sense it makes it a little bit of a drag since we all know there could be more story here.

As to the Emperor and religion... the Emperor was the original psycher. He could see into the warp, and saw that human religion was creating these demonic powers. The war of conquest that he threw down before the Golden Age was to destroy all the things he saw feeding these demonic powers... and he assumed religion was one of them (correctly). His goal was an age of enlightenment, of peace and proseperity. It was never to be, because he misunderstood the nature of the warp, but the Word Bearers were one of the legions thrown out first because they noticed that cryiing "For the Emperor" before a battle made them stronger, specifically because it is the nature of the warp to take on the character of those who lived in our own world. He failed because the warp is not affected by time... which meant that even if he did finally stop religion, which he could not... it would not matter because the warp is all of time, including before him.

Alot of great characters, lore and special units, although our rules aren't strong in the current meta of the current edition of the tabletop that will change soon and if anything it gives hobbyists more time to get the army ready. Full-disclosure the lore during the heresy shows how far the legion fell before getting back on the uptake in the 41st Millenium. He became a space marine which swaps their roles but felt spiteful and hated towards the lion because he thought that he was better but he did dumb shit and him and half of the force was sent home, Luther with all of this negatively became corrupted by chaos where he manipulated those on the planet into believing that the lion betrayed them which caused a small war between the two, Luther wounded the lion after the lion hesitated to kill him and fell into a coma, when it comes to the fallen its a mixed of traitors and loyalist

11:00 Ah the Iron Warriors.. My boys.
The Iron Warriors had it worst out of all the other Legions. Perturabo was one of the last Primachs to be united with his legion, and one disliked by most of his Brothers. And barley got to interact with them, due to this fact.
He's got a very stoic personality. Which is really saying something for a Primarch. But he's got some serious rage when its unleashed. And found it hard to share his emotions with his brothers. But was also very unique compared to his brothers.
He had the rare insight into technology. He could do more then just call up blueprints and instinctual recognition of technology developement.
He could invent technology, brand new ones with no basis. Which is very rare by all other primarchs.
And he could see the Eye of Terror and feel its prescence. Feeling the prescence of the Chaos Gods looking to him. With a deep feeling and knowing of Chaos, but was never informed about it. This too. Was very rare, only two other primachs could feel/know of this. Magnus. And Lorgar. Lorgar's was faith based, Magnus's was Psychic. Meaning his mind/soul was linked heavily to the Warp/Chaos.
Perturabo.. Isn't either of that. But he is deeply capable of understanding and developing technology on controlling, manipulating and shaping the psychic energies of the Warp to.. whatever he desired.
Perturabo's Legion: The Iron Warriors. Were seen as the most.. disposable of all the Legions, which caused the dominon effect. They were used as cannon fodder by other legions, who knew they can get Iron Warriors to be the main body of assaults, taking casualities and saving their own forces.
So the Iron Warriors always got the worst/toughest missions/objectives.
And it also meant they had the worst success/loss stats. Not because they sucked, they just got the worst jobs. Over and over. And technically they always achieved victory.. Just with the worst loss statistics for the Space Marines.
When Perturabo was reunited with his Legion. Only half could be present. The other half was busy in warzones n conflicts and couldn't be summoned. Seeing the statistics of his Legion, and seeing how some of his Legion was so reliant on other Legions.. He ordered Decimation. 1 outta 10 of the space marines. Beaten to death by his other 9 brothers. With bare fists.
And when word of this spread. Nearly all Primarch, if not all. Were horrified. And decried Perturabo as tyranntical and bloodthirsty, and tattletalled to the Emperor. Whom didn't give.a single F.
During Perturabo's time leading the Iron Warriors.. It was the toughest fights, over and over. But there was a new problem. In order to recover their losses. They needed more recruits.. Meaning more males from planets owned by their legion.. And entire generations of boys were taken for these.. really fricking brutal trials. To the point cities all over the planets started to become quiet and barren, due to entire generations being conscripted and being inducted into the Legion.
And during all these years of campaigning. It was brutal. Cold. Calculative sieges. The toughest fights, worlds that have resisted Imperial advances for over 5,000 years? Multiple primarches trying and failing to take it? Send Perturabo. And he always got the mission done.
And not once was he congratulated by the Emperor. Barley by his brothers. Most were disturbed and disgusted by his legions tactics and held him in low regard.
The toughest fight Perturabo ever faced was a race of aliens who had time advancing weaponry, if you got hit by these weapons. Your body aged until you became dust. Your armour rusting and falling apart. And Perturabo got shot many.. many times. And he felt his body aging and becoming harder to opperate. But he won the day.
Then his homeworld rebelled against the Imperium. And he was enraged. His brothers sent mocking messages and he was finally showing emotion. Anger.
And there was no mercy given on his homeworld. All of this was orchestrated by his final remaining adppted sister (complicated story) and she drew him in to tell him the Imperium corrupted him and he needed to look at life differently. And to give him a chance to walk away, and tried to recognize his deepest desires.. To be loved. Something he so desperately desired. He wanted loving companionship of his brothers and his father. To be recognized as the talented leader and warrior.. But also.
Perturabo didn't want to siege and destroy. He wanted to build a utopia of science and peace for humans. To walk amongst people, to hold scientific debates, culture and art exhibits.. And his only friend was Magnus the Red. They had planned to build a 3D theater which actors would recreate their best stories. And even had made songs about them. Regularly made things for each other and helped each other build machines to help their discovery and insights into the Warp.
Perturabo killed his sister. Snapping her neck in a fit of rage.. And fell to his knees and cried. Something which Primarchs have ever.. ever rarely ever done. And Perturabo was broken. He was beyond sad. His home burnt to the ground, all his accomplishments on his homeworld.. destroyed by him.
Once peace was restored. No good job, just orders to move on.
And thats when Horus pounced. Lying and persuading to the broken shell of Perturabo, the words he always wanted to hear.. And was promised the War Master position under Horus, if he swore allegiance..
Then one of his brothers. Fulgrim. Lied and tricked Perturabo into going with him to retrieve an artifact of great power.. Only to nearly suck his soul and life from him, leaving him even more brutally wounded.. And after killing the Mortal vessel of Fulgrim in his human body.. He was reborn as the first Demon Primach.
Perturabo had to turn to cybernetics before and even more now..
He then had to round up Angron and his Legion, beating Angron into submission and his legion. Then fighting on Terra, fighting through 3 Primarchs and their Legions, including Custodian Guards and nearly took the Imperium Palace by himself and his Legion.
But realizing all of this was now pointless. And they has basically became a Rebel Legion against both sides. Using the Warp the fuel a mixture of Science and Warp powers.. And was becoming something more powerful then even Demon Primarchs.
But noooooooo GW had to retcon it entirely. And I refuse to listen to that B.S.

Iron Warriors have some measure of Greek inspiration (particularly in their homeworld of Olympia and the early life of Perturabo, the cynical, suspicious hardheaded nature of him, his homeworld’s culture and his legion is also very Greek) but it’s not overwhelmingly strong. It’s most pronounced in the few Imperial Space Marine chapters that are suspected by some fans to be descended from loyalist Iron Warrior geneseed or otherwise have connections to Iron Warriors (Minotaurs and Silver Skulls).

Technically Logar was the first Primarch to fall to Chaos, who tricked Horus to be seduced by the other four Gods of Chaos. Then Horus persuaded/trick half of the other Primarchs to Chaos's side like he did with Magnus the Red where he brought a Tzeentch Demon to disguse itself as Horus and trick Magnus to flood the Emperor's palace with demons on accident. Thus the conflict with the Thousand Sons against the Space Wolves began and were in the end, forced to retreat into Tzeentch's ever awaiting grasp, just as planned.

For Roman or Greek legions the Ultramarines are literally Romans in space, the empire they have (commonly referred to as the 500 Worlds), the fact all their senior commanders are trained in diplomacy, politics, logistics etc, they literally have Consuls etc, they're super obvious and for the Greeks the Iron Warrriors are heavily Sparta-influenced, they use decimation (killing 1 in 10 to prove a point about purging weakness and instilling harsh discipline), their homeworld is called Olympia, like you can't get much more Greek than that, though there is a Chapter called the Minotaurs who are literally space Sparta down to the aesthetic, fighting style etc and of course their name, though their are other Roman influences like Horus' last name was Lupercal, a term from Roman mythos/mythology

    20:50 Rogal Dorn:
Hes totally capable of lying, subtrifudge and other clandestine activities. But most times he rarely ever uses it, but when he does. Its masterful.
Rogal Dorn is a very talented Primarch, bit a jerk and was really potent.. But until GW says otherwise.. He is currently MIA. And the only thing remaining of him personally was his severed hand.
Fists are a great legion and man. Do they get alot of hate for being so good. Players who know how to use the fists are nearly unstoppable and unbeatable. They used to have the highest win ratios on the table top outta all the space marines. I wonder what 11th edition will change it.. And I wonder what the offical stats are for 10ths official games afficiated/counted.
Don't have much to say on 'em. Their a great legion and not much drama and BS.. Although Iron Warriors and Fists have a huge rivalry, but like Bricky said. They are the same coin just different sides. And they have so much in common. Its just a shame that they couldn't recognize and accept their similarities.
And I will die on this hill saying Dorn was the right choice for him being the correct choice on the builder of the defenses of the Imperial Palace on Earth.
Dorn can understand humans and space marines and how to best utilize both to their bests, and how to overlap them.
Perturabo.. Couldn't. Hes specialized in Space Marines and had little regards for humans. As much as I love him and his legion. They are supremacist jerks.

Check out the legion of the damned. I think they seem quite similar to the alpha legion as the alpha legion often "by accident or coincidence" leads the imperium to victory in one way or another. The legion of the damned appear out of thin air, theyre appearance is similar to ghosts and they also appear to fight for the imperium even though they look like theyd fit right in with the black legion if the black legion were on fire. The reason i think they might be one and the same is because the alpha legion is known to change their appearance and master spies/sabotours so i dont see any reason why they cant suddenly appear and dissappear the way the legion of the damned does. Its clear the alpha legion uses some kind of illusions.

You had mentioned that you were surprised that there weren't more Roman/Greek based legions. The Ultramarines and to some extant the Imperial Fists have a lot of their background based off of Greco/Roman history and culture. In fact the whole 20 Legiones Astartes (aka Space Marine) legions idea was influenced by the Roman Empire's original 20 legions. The formal language of the Imperium (High Gothic) is a bastardized version of Latin.

Life has been shit and when all you have ever been used and abused in life, and dealing with crappy situations over and over again. And when thank you's and appreciation and recognition of doing anything is so rare.
Perturabo is a very appealing character for folks like me and so many others.
The Amber King has great stories that give some of the more important events that help give insight to main characters lives and experiences.
Luetins the best for detailed lore, some folks say he inputs too much of his own thoughts n opinions. But he has too cause so much lore is left vague or helps to understand it in more modern sensability.
A few years ago there was thousands of fanmade animations for wh40k, but GW decided to purge all of them. Sending out cease n desists, and basically stealing everyones animations n content, by saying since they are using their assests. And not giving them a die, unless they fork everything over. But even then only paying very limited amounts of money, depending on their own viewpoints of the animation. Not on its popularity.. It was a total sham.
Or delete said content and never post anything like it again, otherwise you get a lawsuit.
Ever since most animations are being put on their own app/website. But its so fricking overpriced and alot of their stuff is really bad. Not worth it.
And for YT'ers to look out for.
    I recommend AGAINST is Arch.
His community had alot of drama involving pedos and child groomers, with tons of proof. And he actively protecting them, and has his own biases- Its really not worth the drama. Especially if you react to his content.
If its not one side of the community who hates him, coming after you, its his community. And he'll send take downs to your videos. He's not a fan of reaction videos that arent absolutely positive about him.

So the Gene-seed is the genetic material of the Primarchs and, by extension, that of the Emperor himself. This can be harvested ad infinitum from the Primarchs since they all heal super quickly(to the point where the Primarch Vulkan was just straight-up immortal) and all that really matters is that there is enough genetic material to cultivate a Progenoid Gland, the first Gene-seed organ and the one most commonly referred to as 'a Gene-seed', even though most of a Space Marine's implants are also cultivated from Gene-seed samples.
Every Space Marine is given two Progenoid Glands, and the Progenoid Gland is what actually begins the process of converting a pre-existing human Neophyte into a Space Marine by slowly reworking their genetic code and turning them into a knock-off version of their associated Primarch. Once this conversion has been completed and the Neophyte has become a proper Space Marine, the two Progenoid Glands are left in the body to accumulate more genetic material until such time they can be harvested, with one gland implanted in the neck being ready to harvest after about 5 years and the second gland located in the Marine's chest cavity is usually ready after about 20 years. The second gland is extremely difficult to get to as it requires invasive surgery, so it is usually not harvested immediately and often put off until the Marine's actual death unless there is a pressing need to harvest this extra gland, as only one Progenoid Gland is needed to cultivate a new set of Gene-seed organs for a new Space Marine.
No, losing the Progenoid Glands does not affect a Space Marine's abilities; once the Gene-seed is integrated, it is part of that Marine and the glands at that point exist solely to facilitate the creation of more Space Marines. And yes, there are logistical problems with this system, and some Chapters are more pragmatic about it than others, but unless the Chapter is in a state of crisis it is generally accepted that a Space Marine will see active combat for several years before his first set of Progenoid Glands is harvested. It should also be noted that extra Gene-seed can be stored and can be used to cultivate more Gene-seed without the need for implantation into a human being, although this process can be just as time consuming and tends to exacerbate defects in the Gene-seed samples, so it's either done very conservatively or as an emergency response.
To put this in perspective, after the Horus Heresy, many of the Loyalist Legions were devastated by heavy losses and could not be expected to recover in an acceptable timeframe without taking thousands of Space Marines out of active service for several decades. Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines and the Lord Commander of the Imperium at the time, enacted a policy to rusg cultivation of new batches of Gene-seed so that the Legions could recover more quickly. This single act is responsible for a lot of the defects and mutations in the Gene-seed, and is partly why Guilliman broke the Legions into Chapters numbering no more than 1,000 Space Marines; to compartmentalize the Legions in such a way that any emerging defects could be isolated and dealt with appropriately, while allowing more stable strains of Gene-seed to be similarly isolated and thus maintained for future generations of Space Marines.
This is more necessary than you'd think, because while some of the defects that were acceptable among the Legions were as benign as having unnaturally pale or dark skin, more extreme defects caused mutations like the sporadic growth of horns and Wolverine-style bone claws(the Black Dragons Chapter), outbreaks of full-on lycanthropy(the Space Wolves Legion), as well as more esoteric anomalies like having an entire Chapter start bursting into psychic fire(the Firehawks Chapter) or becoming supernaturally unlucky(the Lamenters Chapter).

    Its also worth noting:
In the Imperium. Legions are no more, due to the Heresy. There can now no longer be Legions, only Chapters. So one legion could have 100,000 space marines.
Chapters can only have 1000 space marines. Not including acolytes, recruits and servants.
And there are so.. so many chapters. Some formed from one legion, or loyalist remnants from one traitor legion, who still try to keep their gene seed legacy pure.
Some chapters combining forces after being decimated after particular nasty engagements.. Some chapters completely destroyed to never be recovered.. Some chapters turning traitor..

26:00 Blood Angels.. Ah these poor guys cannot catch a break.
Sangunius was one of the best Primarchs. Undoubtedly. Caring, courageous, compassionate and really brought out the best of his brothers.. And their worst. Managed to keep things mostly peaceful between his brothers when they were together. And was one of the best duelists and fighters of the Imperium. And had something special.
He had a vision of the future. Of his death. And knew how he was going to die. So he had no fear, and inspired such confidence in all under him. Not just as an angel with his psycker powers. But his actions inspired such zealous confidence.
He saw his death and would charge into any battles personally. And on the day of his death. Beat down 2/3 of his brothers and gave horus a brief beating.
But the blood angels have it rough. Their legion has it tough, the black rage ruining its members.. The red thirst. Its a need to drink blood, which contains psyonic bits. And the blood angels cannot be around human soldiers.. Cause then they start to look to them like food.. And is very common for imperial soldiers to disappear when around Blood Angels.
One of the only few Blood Angels to live and personally known Sanginus, to not succumb to the red thirst and black rage. Is one cool character. Even talking to the leader of the Necron race and holding a.. sort of respectful conversation.
A shame their homeworld was mostly eaten by Tyrannids and left a ruined world. And their legion in tattered remains.

    28:48 Oh poor Iron Hands..
Ferrus Mannus was such an underrated Primarch. Alot of folks dont understand him well, myself included.
But oddly enough. He got along well with most folks.. But best with the Emperor. And had a great ability for crafting. And was best friends with Fulgrim.
They spent weeks in a crafting competition against each other, forging a weapon each. Once concluded they both made such masterful weapons they concluded that they were both the winners. And gifted the sword and hammer they forged to each other as signs of their undying love and loyalty..
Fulgrim then used that sword to cut off the head of Ferrus during the Drop Site Massacre.
Now the Iron Hand gets memed on alot and alot of it isnt unjustified. This legion has lost its way and has become a horrible and twisted, perverted way of its former self..and is basically a puppet corpse being manipulated by the Mechanicus.

In the Dark Imperium trilogy, Rowboat Girly Man, asked an eldar emissary, "what is a god?" Jist of the answer is if enough people believe something is a god it is a god. By that definition, the Emperor is a god regarless of anyone's protest to the contrary.
Regarless, mass worship will create a god. Whether that worship created a new "Emperor" god or the Emperor becomes a god who knows. But humans did already create a god of the greater good so figure GW either forgot that plot line or those 2 options already happened.

2 competing theories are 1) the emperor is a perpetual and 'dying' means he comes back, so kill him and hasten that in. 2)he is building power in the warp and all these 'miracles' are him testing his limits. Whether or not he wanted to be a God, the way the warp works imagine the trillions upon trillions of humans that believe in the emperor. Now imagine what kind of power in the warp he might have. It's intentionally ambiguous to cause discussions like this.

3:10 This is a complicated question to answer.. But technically. Yes.
They do contain.. Some amount from the Emperor. But where we get into contensious topic is.. One lady.
Who supposed was also like a "Mother". Who helped the Emperor in making them.. But for some reason got angry at the Emperor for using them for war like they were designed to do, made in a labratory deep in the Himmileia mountains here on Earth- In gestation pods..
But the problem is: She was added in during peak Feminist movements and a small and very loud crowd of feminists were demanding representation in this franchise.. And alot of fans HATED her inclusion. Diminishing the Emperor into a bumbling fool who had no idea of genetic mapping and made her into more Godly then he.. And it was a giant mess. And the story was god awful.
So most fans refuse to even talk about her and ignore her. And even GW doesnt even talk on her on anything and stopped making physical copies of those books, so those books are kinda rare physical copies.. Because some fans took to purchasing them and burning them, making videos of it.
Its a giant mess. And theres some folks who'll dispute this- But its such a mess and its really best to avoid this all together.
The Emperor used some of his dna, mixed some with animalistic genes n traits, all Imprinted with various codings and memories and abilities to either unlock or have the blueprints of how to make their ways to the latest technology that was around during the 30th Milenia.. And they were gestating in pods, when Chaos stole them away.
    Thats what everyone accepts.

Erda was a perfectly fine idea - she could have been very interesting, and a testament to the spirit of a mother who will do anything to save her children from a future of pain and war.
She was poorly executed, and one dimensional with her reasoning of betrayal not well explained. It's unfortunate.
Not every book with her in it was burned(?) - this is the first I've ever heard of that (although I'm not necessarily doubting its veracity. Older WH40k get *very* serious about changes or updates to canon) she actually appears in one of the last (and rather pivotal) Horus Heresy Novels: Saturine.
I can't say I've ever seen anyone immolate their copy of that one, lol. It is the last we've heard of her for now, though. I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't come back despite being the same kind of reincarnating immortal the Emperor is, simply because of how badly GW effed up with her as a character.

I kinda like her character but it was a mix of poor timing and bad writing on GW's part, I personally like the idea of a Mother of the Primarch's character but it was so poorly executed.
She is still about and important to the Siege of Terra stuff, and I believe she's alive in M.42 with either a the first proto Primaris or a Thunder Warrior as her bodyguard can't remember which.
It would be interesting to see her character directly clash and argue with the Emperor, or to see her interact with Guilliman in the current era.

I can't carry on watching this video. The amount of times you pause in the middle of sentences and even words, and you don't even bother going back to find out what was being said. Just too annoying.
