I currently have been riding a Sportster Custom for the past 3 years. I only have one complaint. It’s an EVO 1200. I’m 73, and a little smoother ride might be the thing. No complaints about anything. It has a Stage 1 that brought it to life. Sounds great, looks great, rides almost great. The Softail is the next logical jump. 550 lbs to 650 lbs. I don’t want to handle more than that. Anyway, your review was great. When I find a good day, might have to take a test ride. Thanks Alf.

I've never owned a Harley until a year ago, and the Slim was my weapon of choice. This without a doubt is the best bike I've ever owned. Great to see you feel the same way about it ✌✌✌.

That's my bike! 2019 FLSL. The color is rugged gold denim. Got her earlier this year and clocked about 4500+ miles. A beauty. What's seen in your video is exactly how I bought it. I added the 18" windshield and engine guard. Dropped her once in a parking lot while I was practicing U-turns and the like! The engine guard saved the bike from damage. So get an engine guard pleassseee if you are buying a bike. I was cruising at 70 MPH and looked down at the RPM and it was just 2500 - 2700. I hardly touch 3000 RPM. So in a way it's a monster. I would like a bit more torque while taking off from a red light. So I may go for Stage 1 sometime. But let's see.
The windshield is a great add too. Keeps the wind from hitting you hard at high speeds.
    Nice review! Thanks!

I've never had a crush on a Harley before, but I love this bike. A guy had one on a group ride I did the other day and I couldn't stop admiring it. I'd take this bike over the Triumph Bobber in a heart beat... and I'm a big fan of Triumphs. I love that retro look with the spoked rims and fat tires. And those forks look bad ass. I thought a new Bonneville was going to be my next bike, but now I'm not so sure. The only thing that worries me is the forward controls, because I'm not used to that set up. I think I'd get over that pretty quick though.

I have ridden performance bikes my whole life but last year I was convinced to buy a Road Glide Special. You would be surprised at how well these new Harleys handle the twisties. I have done the Tail of the Dragon many times and I have as much fun on my RGS as I do on my Super Duke GT. Props to Harley, their bikes have a unique vibe on every level but will surprise anyone who rides them hard.

I ride bikes for 50 years. Only in 2018 I looked to Harley's Softail models as a potencial buyer. Right now I'm looking for a Sport Glide to have the same practicality as a scooter, the benefits of tubless tires, and cruise control. I'm in looove.

@@RevelatorAlf well i have a 2019 Ultra Limited 114ci with a Maxcell 821B cam, Rinehart cold air intake and exhaust and a Power vision tune its now rear wheel dyno is 116hp and 134tq at the rear wheel so it moves pretty good.. her 2009 883 sportster at 75mph was reving high to keep up, and the wind made it hard for her to feel safe. With the 2019 softtail slim 107ci (the 107 being literally twice the engine size and 6 spd instead of the 883s 5 speed,) the power to weight ratio helps her move threw traffic, merge on to the interstate, feel more stable at speed. She also said, similar to what you said she feels less wind hitting her at speed. Not to mention its a damn good looking bike. Lol I'm looking forward to jumping on it myself:-) here soon

I was skeptical how the softail was going to ride but after adjusting the shock , its like riding a sofa.Been riding since I was 14 yo., I'm 69 now. When I'm riding, I feel 25 again . .....LOVE IT ! Easy cleaning off the bugs n crud with a micro fiber towel and a can of Spray Way foaming window cleaner !

I have the 2020 slim and love it for every reason you mentioned. I added the pull back risers to bring the bars back to me as I have shorter arms. The cover plate that comes with them has more of a retro logo and cures the thing you didn't like about that top plate logo.

Good video, on some roads I know too.
A few years back I was picking between a slim, loved the looks; a fat boy, really loved the looks; and a Heritage 107, loved the practicality. I went for the Heritage as I did a lot of touring. After a couple of long days in the saddle I realised it wasn't actually that comfortable, so I switched to a Kawasaki Z1000 SX, which was so good I bought the Ninja when that came out. But Covid has banjaxed my long trips abroad and now I'm wondering if I might buy a bike just for shorter UK journeys. The slim is on the list of possibles.
You can get cruise control added as an extra by the way.

Alf Am New To Your Site and Love All The Great Honest information You Give on All The Harleys(Love The City Streets and Countryside in The UK)i Was Stationed There Many Years Ago and Enjoyed My 2 Years There(U.S. Air Force) BTW i Just Finished The 3 Day Harley Davidson Rider Academy(For Entry Level) i am Too Big For 883 and was wondering Do You Think The Slim is a Good Starter Bike....Thanks and Stay Safe.

    • @RevelatorAlf
      @RevelatorAlf  Před 4 lety +2

chaltaloma well thank you so much. Greatly appreciated. Yes the 883 is a nice starter for sure but I fear you would outgrow it relatively quickly in terms of performance. However I would say get one but not new. Go into the used market and you’ll find great deals on the 883.
Other than that if the Sportster fits you physically I would go to the 1200 in which variation suits you best.
Now I am a great believer that you can ride any bike if it fits you physically and you are in total control of its power. So any of the Softails are great but the Street Bob is more like a Sportster size and has probably the best power to weight ratio. The Slim in my opinion is where the Street Bob should be in terms of overall size.
If you really like the Slim, then go for it! It’s a fantastic bike I must say and love the styling too and the power is very manageable. I hope this helps. Please let us know what you decide and happy hunting. Cheers

Always loved the looks of the Slim. Perfect ergonomics IMHO . . . perhaps mid-mount (or slightly forward) pegs would make it even better. A shame HD discontinued it last year. But the new Softails, I have to say, are a bit too smooth for my liking - much prefer the feel and sound of the pre-2018 models.

Myself, at 5'9" tall isn't the problem-its my 315lb "bulldog" built frame, would that bike be able to drag my "bigness" around and not wheez or gasp for air on doing so! I would leave the bike stock-including the pipes! Engine guards, fog lights and LED headlights are on it as well! Beautiful bike but from what I can gather it has lost that Harley character with the engine. I buy Harlies for the lope, the rattles and vibes of a real engine. With the whirl the new 107 has, it sounds like a Boulevard or Virago. The rest of the bike is beaut. But I am certainly disappointed on the engine side of things. Maybe a different cam is needed for that classic lope?
