- How stable is a Harley Davidson - Is a HD Sport Glide a good ride - Here I discuss the positive aspects of riding a Harley Davidson Sport Glide and what makes it so stable on the road and how that benefits you in all riding conditions and on all surfaces too.

Alf,
I like to describe the SG as what the Sportster evolved would be. Manners, line-holding-abilities, better (if possible) looks, and the stability that inspires handling confidence. It's everything I wanted either of my two past Sportsters to be, AND with a big-block motor. I have three bikes, but this one is now my fav and I must say I enjoy riding a Harley (over the other brands) again.
Thank-You,
Mike
Ah bless you Mike and I totally concur. In fact when I test rode the Softail slim I pretty much said the same. Where I think they’ve regressed is with the Streetbob and Fatbob smaller tanks but bigger, punchy and stable is the way to go for me too. Cheers
Great video, as always Alf! Love the enthusiasm! I felt the same way the 1st time I rode the SG & still feel that way every time I take her out!
Royce Labor thanks so much fella. I’ve probably never been this happy with any of my previous bikes I must say. Love it. Cheers
Thanks for creating and publishing Sport Glide videos! The 2018 Sport Glide is the first Harley Davidson I’ve owned, but it’s also the first H-D model that really caught my attention..., and for many of the same reasons you are pointing out! Frame geometry of new soft tail is about as perfect as it gets. The mono-shock rear suspension is a great design. It was cutting edge for Yamaha YZ bike’s of late 1970’s / early 80’s and made for excellent handing moto-cross racers. Coupled with 30 degree front end rake, upside down forks, 18” front wheel / 16” rear wheel, the 4 valve M8, single exhaust, folding foot pegs, the Sport Glide has characteristics a very stable off road / desert racing bike in my opinion. If the up coming Pan America has the stability and ride feel off-pavement that the Sport Glide has on-pavement, it will be a great machine as well!
I couldn't agree more. The chassis is an amazing step forward for Harley and the engine is smooth as you like. Thanks for the support. More videos coming daily. Cheers
Very good and important review, How it rides! Thank you.
Thanks again. Cheers
Merci beaucoup l'Ami !
Good video Alf, and great to see you highlighting that the SG handles very well. Anyone test riding this machine will be impressed, once they get used to riding with forward controls!!. I actually think that the bike could handle even better with a different set of handlebars as the standard cow horn bars are a little too wide for my taste. I have always changed OEM tires before delivery on all my bikes (except one brand which had decent rubber as standard), and my bike has the Bridgestone Battlecruise H50 fitted. I wanted to try the Pirelli Night Dragons but could not find the size for tge front in my country. I have no clue about the OEM Scorchers, but the Bridgestones are good, although riding in the wet still requires good throttle management!. People rate Avon tires, and there is new rubber coming out from Metzeler for cruisers that is closer to their sport touring tires. Thats what I will try next.
Great info thanks fella. I’m still to find if they do a Michelin PR3 or PR4 in this size bit if they do, that is what I’ll go for. Cheers
One of the best machines I've had to be fair as regards a pleasure to ride. As for the tyres I do have to say I have had no issues at all with them, in the dry or the wet, solo or two up. I find a good test for tyres is just a damp road surface and again they haven't given me a problem in the slightest.
For me too one of the best bikes I've enjoyed riding too. Cheers
My god, you folks have some VERY narrow roads there! I kept leaning in my chair when an on-coming car went past... glad you are not a hood ornament on any of them. Here in the US, we have single lanes that are not too much narrower than your entire road! Excellent video, as usual; my 2018 SG is THE best handling bike I have ever ridden; wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Good man. Love that
Off topic, I wear that type of sunglasses too and not just for style. I find they are the best motorcycle glasses out there.
1. The flat arms slide so easily into a helmet
2. The arms are high so you have perfect peripheral vision
3. The lenses are big and take most of the bugs when the helmet visor is open
4. The thick frame can be used to block the sun when it's near the horizon
5. No polarization keeps the visor from turning hallucinogenic colors
6. Ray Bans last forever
Yep they were great unfortunately I stepped on them one day and killed them.
You nailed it on the tire issue especially in the rain or wet road conditions. I just put risers on it a little more than 2 inches, what a difference it makes they are also curved back a bit, Harley Part # 56269-09 only thing is they are only in Chrome, so I had them powder coated black, looks like there are more options now for the 2020.
Ah great. You know what initially I was all for mini apes but since seeing them up close I’m not so sure. I’m now thinking of just risers or combo risers and drag bars. Did you need longer cables/wiring etc or were the stock ones fine? Cheers
RevelatorAlf No extra cable length required, there was enough slack for the electrical and front brake cable, the clutch cable just needs to be routed under the bars, all you have to do on the clutch cable is release the little red lock inside the sleeve to pick up the slack then push the red lock back in. The risers are the way to go , I think mini apes would not look good, I wish I could send you some pictures. Cheers
Rob fantastic info. How tall are your risers? Please send a photo to info@revelatoralf.com if you wish. I’d love to see them. Cheers fella
RevelatorAlf just sent you the pictures.
Rob thanks I’ll look now cheers
The more I wrench on this bike the more I like it. Just waiting for a new wind screen it’s coming this week. I will get rid of these awful tires next year. Cheers Alf.
Cheers Rob, yep I’ll be doing the same. Just looking a decent alternatives now
RevelatorAlf cool keep me posted .
@@RevelatorAlf I've had Bridgestone Battlecruise H50's on my last Harley as a replacement for my Scorchers and they were brilliant wet or dry couldn't fault them 👍
Very important comment “Don’t ever buy a Harley, because it’s a Harley.” Ergonomics, comfort and confidence are key.... the brand doesn’t matter if it don’t “fit”! ...though, I must also say, I kinda feel a little pretentious saying this to people who are potentially in the market for buying a bike.... to then roll away on my 19’ SG!
Hi Alf, I'm In New Zealand,Yes i'm looking at a Sport Glide 2020, I am 5-8 , 77 kg about 169 pounds do you think bike would suit my size, Thank you
Hi Dennis. I don’t see why not as it’s got a low seat height and you can rotate the bars rearward the help with reach too. Possibly invest in engine protection bars too if you’re unsure and another type of seat that will bring you forward slightly too.
Really you just have to sit on it and ride to see if it suits you but it’s got great balance and feels lighter than it looks. Happy hunting. Cheers
@@RevelatorAlf Thank you for you advice. Will book in a test ride for this coming Saturday.
Dennis Inglis Hi Dennis, I’m 5’7 and 74kg, the SG is perfect for handling
@@overwatch65 Thank you Peter,Still can not get to the dealer for a test ride, Covid thing
The missenderflyer dropped his GoPro from his speed twin here
