100% agreed with mouth tape, for all the reasons you stated and the others don't even seem to consider. Additionally I have nasal cycling and occasional complete nasal blockage because of this. Hence waking up with dry mouth. If you add in mouth tape = suffocation. And this is with a full face mask and maxed humidification.

Mouth tape works perfectly for those who are mouth breathers. Been using tape for two years without issue. Chin straps don't work for people who are mouth breathers. Knightsbridge chin strap works well…

No such thing as mouth breathers. We were born with a nose for a reason. What happens, especially if apnea was diagnosed later in life, is your not getting enough air through the nose so your body takes more air in through the mouth. This can be corrected with mouth tape or a chin strap.

i believe i only saw one response here that mentioned using a soft cervical collar for folks who end up with dry mouth in the morning. it's not always a "moth breathing" problem. chin straps may--or may not--be the answer. for me, they weren't.
once i got a good fitting scc, i have almost zero dry mouth problems.
you need to make sure you get a good fit.

I tape my mouth and for just-in-case safety reasons I plug a power monitor in the same electrical outlet my CPAP machine uses. If the power goes out for 5 seconds a horn goes off. You can get an app for your phone for almost nothing that senses if the charging power goes off to your phone and will set off an alarm thru your phone speaker. In case of an internal failure of the CPAP machine I use a SPO2 ring monitor set to vibrate at its strongest level to wake me if my SPO2 saturation level goes below 90%. Finally I dog-ear a corner of the tape to make it easy to rip off instantly if needed (I never have). Use common sense of course, if you're stuffed up with a cold, sinusitis or allergies then no mouth taping, duh. Try putting your mask on and power up your machine while laying down as normal then have someone unplug the machine to see what it feels like, you'll see the world doesn't end. There are anti-asphyxiation features built into the mask. Don't just shut off the machine because the Resmed 10 for example automatically runs a 30 minute low pressure hose drying cycle when you turn it off with the switch so that would not simulate a power failure. I have never heard of anyone dying or injured from mouth taping.

I'm ready to throw the whole situation out on the street because of dry mouth. My mouth feels like leather inside now. I've tried every tip and advice you and everyone else mentioned.
I've concluded my throat closes when I sleep and the air just blows in the closed system, which is my taped mouth.
My mouth can open with the type of tape I use, if necessary.

Do you have any reported instances of people suffocating who use a CPAP machine and tape their mouth shut? Also, any reported instances of people having a medical issue because they breathed in their own Co2 while using a CPAP. Understand the risks of mouth tape as you lay out. But nothing worked for me until I started using - about four years ago. I only tape the middle third of my mouth, so I can still breath through my mouth if needed. Whether my body would do that when I am asleep is a question. But the is no question as to how much better I feel after a night with mouth tape vs without. I use a nasal pillows mask.

I have Sjorgens syndrome which one of symptoms is dry mouth. Even tho I advised Respirologist 3x of this and mentioning to technician I wasn't advised of a heated tube so after researching found out about heated tubing purchased which helped yet still quite dry so I found a X shaped tape which helped. I did not want a straight tape. The X does allow for exhalation which I have done. My mouth is back at least to pre CPAP dry mouth.
The heated tube also reduced my dry eye another sjorgens symptom which had got worse again with CPAP.

Can't use chin strap because of a bite-guard on my upper teeth. While wearing the chin strap, my lower jaw is out of alignment with regard to the bite guard, and so not workable; it moves my jaw too much. Taping I'm still trying. Wan to try a postage-stamp sized piece that won't prevent my mouth from opening, but I'm not sure it will be effective. In any case, I'm still struggling to fall asleep with the nasal pillows in place, no less the tape.

Ok, you mention the risk of having a closed cycle in case of a malfunction of the CPAP machine in case of using mouth tape. What about people using a fullface mask? Isn't it the same even with no mouth tape involved? In my nasal pillow mask there's a vent at the mask itself, allowing at least some air in and out in case you'd block your tube for some reason. Isn't that the safety precaution?

another serious consideration with mouth tape is Vomiting. maybe u eat something off or have one too many and get sick at night. with your mouth taped shut + pressure there a high risk of it going down into your lungs and your stomach contents will wreak havoc on your lungs. don't get me wrong, mouth taping IS effective, i used KT tape ( kinesiology tape) which sticks pretty well, and allows u to breath thru it but I'm gonna try a FFM because my nasal congestion is just too unbearable and the machine just ends up blowing max pressure up my nose which would wake me up.

Safety issues aside, taping did not prevent air from leaking into my mouth. I'd still wake up with a mouth full of air and have to force it back into my nasal passages. Even with max pressure lowered to 8, air still leaks into my mouth and it ends up dry dry dry when I'm using a nasal pillow mask, which is otherwise fine. I hate the full face mask because it gets very uncomfortable after about 4 hours, and air starts leaking out around the edges... but it does keep me from having dry mouth. Still looking for a solution.

No, I'm team cpap with full face mask all the way! There's literally nothing better than the feeling of air being pushed into my lungs whether it be through my nose or mouth.
