    Lilly--Is there any therapeutic advantage to using a humidifier or is it just for comfort? I wear a full-face mask and I understand and can tolerate waking up with a dry mouth. I fill my humidifier with distilled water but don't turn it on. (I dislike having to breathe the hot air that comes out.) So, essentially, I'm not getting any benefit from the humidifier. Is this OK or am I missing a benefit by not breathing the humid air? Thanks, really enjoy your videos!

      Hello,
      The humidifier is mostly for comfort. If you can tolerate the dry mouth then you should be okay. If you are not using the humidifier at all you can turn the setting off and that way you don't need to fill the chamber with water.

    My machine settings needed to be turned down so it would stop forcing my lips apart. It fixed the problem! My jaw didn't open, just the lips so the chin strap isn't helpful. I use nasal pillows. I clinched my jaw. My lips would stick to my teeth they were so dry. lol.

    • @Sleeplayground
      @Sleeplayground  Před rokem

      I apologize, I know the mask is a hassle and the biggest hurdle to get over. Were not sure about mouth leaks with the full face, as the mask covers the mouth and nose, maybe we are misunderstanding. The dry mouth is due to humidity issue you might need to raise the humidifier if you have not already. The chipmunk cheeks are because you are holding the air rather then breathing it in, is usually the cause. Most of the time on top of the chipmunk cheeks, patient's then swallow the air causing bloated or gassy stomach. Please let us know if any suggestion helped and what did not so we can work to help you resolve any issues you are having still.

    • @Sleeplayground

      Sleep apnea can lead to premature death. Research shows that mortality risks are higher in those who have sleep apnea because it interrupts circadian rhythms, throws off the chemistry between the body and brain, increases blood pressure, disrupts cardiac and respiratory function, and elevates the heart rate.

      Me too Rosie, cliff fall accident as a child and many operations all my life now 70. Trying lots of permutations with my Resmed 10 Elite with humidifier at all levels and get a much dryer mouth than I used to have before being prescribed SA and having to use the CPAP. I do though find that using the humidifier at Levels 6, 7 and 8 my mask actually has little puddles of water in when I wake up and on moving at night it can cause me to wake up due to water seeping under the full face mask on to my face and resulting noise. Generally I think for us 'true' non nose breathers I suspect ResMed and other manufacturers have not done enough research and really don't know how to deal with us. Please answer here and give more detailed info on your particular situation, as would like to compare notes with you.

    • @Sleeplayground
      @Sleeplayground  Před rokem

      Hi Rosie,
      So sorry for the late response. Yes I would definitely go with a Full Face mask there are many variations and you do have to find one that works for you. Sometimes rainout in the tubing and the mask is related to the humidity levels that we increase because of dry mouth. However sometimes a medication we are taking or too much leakage in mask may be a cause. I would recommend to set your humidity level on Auto if that is an option on your machine. To allow it to adjust to the relative humidity in the room. Also make sure the mask is fit properly to avoid a lot of excess leakage. If needed you can continue to use nasal sprays to keep airways open if that's a possibility. Let me know if I can assist with any other questions, it would be my pleasure!

    This would have been a better video if you had sat down and outlined what you were going to present. Unfortunately this ended up being a word salad on the topic with constant jumping around between humidification, mask leaks, etc. I didn't hear any discussion on the affect that humidity and temperature play, with cold air holding less moisture in the air.
