Dangit, Real martial artists in real life train with "dances" like this. in Escrima there's the anyo, which is a fanciful dancing with weapons, it is actually a training for coordination of your footwork, balance and handwork. The twirling part also strengthens your wrists. moves like these aren't entirely worthless. just not practical in real fights.

    • @procrastinatinggamer
      @procrastinatinggamer Před 7 lety +4

The cat eyes are a natural result of the mutagens used in the Trial of the Grasses, Geralt does have other mutations in addition to that as he went through the Trail so smoothly (relatively-speaking of course). But the only cosmetic side of those extra mutations was the loss of pigment in his skin and hair.

It's also worth mentioning that these kind of moves in fighting (all kinds of fighting, wether traditional martial arts, modern fighting or swordsmanship etc etc) are used for two things. During practice overly exaggerated/complicated moves can be extremely useful to get yourself used to a weapons weight/handling overall. Also using flashy moves before fights have been done forever as a scare tactic.
Trying scare tactic vs a well trained master would not yield anything. But let's say you were intermediate/advanced swordfighter and came up vs 1-3 people who clearly had no idea how to use a sword except swing it, scare tactics would be extremely well to lower their confidence and therefor increase your chance of winning while being outnumbered or perhaps even avoiding a fight all together.

When i started sword training, i had the cops called on me twice and both times, i showed them a video from either here, Sellsword Arts, or Bjorn Ruther and they were cool as hell both times. They said some people get a little nervous when they see a 6'6 tall 250lbs dude swinging a longsword in the parking lot, and i can understand that. But i would be thrilled if i ever saw someone doing sword drills in their driveway or park. It would make my day. I'm from Atlanta if anybody wants to duel to first blood.

I love the description, which more or less imply how useless this would be in a real fight.
The fancy sword swinging which is bad for grip, and someone hitting your sword mid-swing would probably make you drop it.
Spin cut which leaves you totally undefended.
Still looks really cool though. I do hope no one is stupid enough to think it's a proper technique because they failed to read the description.

I think the same thing is here for example you dont really use 8 in battle as it is in a video but if you think about it it can be a really nice counterattack that looks nearly same

I always thought that it's some kind of form to get loosened up before training. I mean, yeah, I'm fine, and of course there's more to follow.
PS. The blindfolded-on-posts thing goes pretty well.

haha cool to hear :) Your moves are so smooth, i'm in a hema club myself but I can't seem to lose the clunkyness of my moves. got any tips?

To achieve fluidity of movement, you need to slow down and work the speed up slowly - same as with musical instruments. The key is to maintain constant velocity of the blade throughout all motions.
Do note however, that it looks good, but isn't perfect for fighting. In sword combat, I find it's better to have that clunkiness, sudden bursts of acceleration instead of constant speed.

looks great man, Metatron sent me here. I have a question. Are you opening up your fingers when you spin the sword? If so could you do it with a fully closed hand? In true combat form ( I relies this is not true combat) it is best to not open your hand when spinning the weapon, all be it is easier to open the fingers do to lack of wrist flexibility, (not saying your wrist are not flexible :) ) this helps keep the weapon in your hand upon the moment of impact, or if someone attacks the weapon wielding hand. Keep up the great work man, you have good skill.
Check out my Armory my family and I are opening up in Oregon USA we are starting to focus more on HEMA gear.

    Take in mind
1 spinning long sword(and spinning any long arm) was actually used for real but as defensive technique while stepping back. If u use to attack your guard will be open to thrusting, unless wearing a good armor able to protect you from indirect thrusting
2 against someone wearing full plate armor, swords are a bit useless
