  • This video is a little bit of a repeat so I thought I'd drop it on the back of my new video on exhaust cutouts. I had taken down the first rendition of this video to add more basic setup information which I had already filmed. The beginning is just orientation and setup recommendations for the six pack. Then I film some air fuel gauge readings before and after making some changes. The biggest lessons I learned are that my highway gears and manual transmission wanted a bigger nozzle, bigger pump cam, and black diaphragm springs!
    Below are the links I reference in the video.

    This video is absolutely needed! Too many carb hacks out there who couldn’t tune their way out of a corner. Good information! Great content!

    I watched until the end. Super great video, editing, and work! Car is awesome. I’m partial to the white 70 Kowalski challenger.

      Thanks, I appreciate that! When I started building it, I wanted to clone it out to the Vanishing Point Challenger half-way through the movie when it was mildly beat up. I was the only one who thought that was a good idea 😅. Unfortunately, I got carried away and made it nice, so I probably won't be blasting around off-road anytime soon. Halloween is coming up, maybe we need to get our hands on some 70's leather vests and good Kowalski wigs? haha.

    Thanks for the very informational video! I'm new to the six barrel, so this documentation of your step-by-step/trial and error tuning will be very useful to me and many others.

    Interesting, I bought a new set of repop MP carbs back In the early 1990s when I worked for a dealer...I lived in Salt Lake City at the time, the elevation was just over 4000 feet...I had a hot 440 with a .509 cam...and I never needed to mess with the outboard carbs..they were cool for a minute, but I'd never run one again. Awesome tech for the layman.

    Great video. I'm going to apply the techniques you described to my 340 six pack set up. The QFT meeting plates are a great idea, also I had no idea what those screws were called. I was very fortunate to find and purchase brand new Holley carbs for my set up.
    P.S I gave you a subscription:)

      Thanks! Best of luck with the 340. In my opinion, even though these six packs aren't cheap and a little more work to tune, just popping off the air cleaner and looking into the engine bay makes it all worth while 😁

    Watching this made me check some settings and found a crack in the plastic vacuum T for the outer carbs

    So just some clarification on the 500 end carbs ... I also have a 340 Six-Pack set up .. looking for some spare ends 500 carbs original parts numbers are 0-4790 rear and 0-4789 front .. i found both but between the price to buy and restore is crazy.. so I purchased a new center from Holley 0-4792 350 CFM .. I see they no longer remanufacture the end 500 carbs for the 340.. so I have been looking at the 500 CFM carbs for the 440 engine 69/70 Holley 0-4365 and the 1971 440 engine 0-4672 .. I've been told the 69/70 has a different style metering plate and the 71 has the same style metering plate that my 340 end carbs have in them, just a different jet size. Question: will either of the 440 end carbs work on my modified 340 ? and if so should I go with the 69/70 or the 71 carbs? Any help would be greatly appreciated from anyone who has dealt with this scenario. Thanks

    Can you share with me where you purchased your air fuel gauge and what brand? can you also share with me your engine idle vacuum number as well as your power valve size? Thanks for the video. It’s informative and helpful for those of us trying to tune, six barrels and six packs.

      Sorry for the late reply! I haven't been on here very much lately... My engine idles at 11 in. Hg. I am happy with this number considering the size of the cam. My power valve is the factory 6.5 size. My Air Fuel gauge is an Autometer Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite wideband. The Autometer part number is 4378 and I got it from Summit Racing. They aren't cheap (currently about $370), but IMO they are pretty much a must to get a good tune on these things.

    why bother buying special 5/32 tool when you can grab any piece of steel, angle grinder and make yourself a tool. Be creative

    • @vintagevalhalla7523
      @vintagevalhalla7523  Před 3 měsíci

      Point taken, but carb fasteners are sensitive to over/under torqueing. I probably could have made a slot screwdriver work, or made something, but the tool was cheaper than the fuel (and time) it would have cost me to go buy some steel round and I'm not running any risk of stripping the fastener head due to an imprecise fit.
