The "Empress" is one of the more aesthetically pleasing lines in the Whites. As viewed from Hermit Lake it seems much steeper than it is but the exit can be a challenge to say the least.
It's a bit technical to find the entrance and not great skiing to this point so I chose to down climb. The vantage point from above is much different than the straight on view and the snowfield feels compressed.
The snow was great up top but quickly changed to "hot pow" by the exit and as it sluffed I took my time making my way across the exposed cliffs.
It's a novelty run with a technical exit of your choosing, not sure I'll race to do it again but the neighboring lines are more bang for your buck.

Great job Andrew! Brooks Dodge would be proud of you. Upper and lower bushwacking is price to pay for that epic mid-section.
Did not think that went cleanly, nice work man!
Heck yeah! What an intimidating line!
Awesome!
Great video as always Andrew! Looks like a tricky line to navigate.
Thanks - it's a very unique line that's worthy of sharing. There's a lot of different exit options when there's more snow but this was always how I had envisioned skiing it.
i don't think i've ever seen anyone ski the bottom part, nice job! looked good! make a stovepipe video!
That was awesome! I have never heard of The Empress. Was it hard to keep track of where the line was?
It looks a lot more compressed from above. The exit wasn't as difficult to find as I thought it might be. You can get a peek at it from Hillman's which helped. Finding the entrance wasn't too bad either.
Holy..... 😳 I could *never* but so glad YOU did!! Repeat after me: balls, ginormous fukkin balls 🤝
Ski the East!!
2020 getting the stoke up for this winter.
AD are you alone on this tour?
How did you mount your camera?
Shoulder mount with the karma grip / peak design slide plate - put the info in the description. Works really well, favorite POV location since it's higher than the chest mount, lower than the helmet.
We should keep some alpine vegetation free from skiers
That "alpine vegetation" in the video are just ordinary trees stunted by wind and cold. They're not endangered an no one cares about them. The rare plants are well protected under the snow.
Do your part - stay home.
@@mortsdans the concern is where those plants grow not just what species they are. The soil is held by those tree roots, those trees are fragile/stunted. It's an impressive line but doing so over vegetation at high altitude has to be discouraged as it leads to erosion
