    I work a ford dealer and I just did one of these oil consumption on an f150 and it said in the TSB if the build date I think was before Oct 19 to replace the dipstick. Is that true?

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  Před 3 lety +19

      Yes if it's built before October 4th 2019 you replace a dipstick and then you drain the engine oil and put a new filter on it and then reprogram the PCM because during the fuel shut off of Vince the throttle plate was staying closed so with the new PCM strategy they actually open the throttle plate so it doesn't pull so much vacuum on the PCV system and it can pull Fresh Air instead of through the PCV system

      I have ALWAYS felt that the Coyote had high vacuum oil consumption potential. My suspicions were that why the 2012 used more oil, over my current 2014, is because of the manual trans and spending more time on the overrun in gear and thus, highest possible vacuum. The auto is just upshifting out of that, all the time.

    I also like how everybody online shows these trucks dumping oil all over the place when they change the oil. I just used a large pair of needle nose pliers to turn the plug until it was loose then pulled it out slow and held the plug while it drained. Yeah it sucked holding the plug but was better then oil everywhere.

    I'm friends with the engineer that designed the dipstick, it's actually quite amazing.
    When you are sleeping, microscopic engine rebuilders come out of the new dipstick and add Nikasil to the bore and that closes up the ring gap.
    This in turn reduces blow-by and stops oil consumption.
    It's new technology called nano-rebuild and is currently in the infant stages of being approved by the national institute of weights and measures, the Wu Han Lab and the CDC.
    Science is paving the way for engines that last forever, one dipstick at a time.

    Hava a few things to say...
    I've read all the way to the bottom of the comments, and what everyone needs to realize is that there isn't one manufacturer that doesn't have some sort of issues with their vehicles. Tundra you say? Look up leaking camplate on the 5.7 or turbo waste gate on the new 3.5. GM with AFM or DFM, what about collapsed lifters huh? Honda? Check out the Ridgeline piston slap. No surprise Ford has issues. So please, stop slagging and learn a bit. Look and listen for congruency in what you read and hear.
    (Keep up the good work Rich)
    The EPA has put huge pressure on burning gasoline and diesel. Engineers are constantly jumping through hoops to keep their internal combustion engines efficient. I think we are seeing the end game and have "just about" reached the finish of how efficient burning hydrocarbons can be.
    Lastly, and this is just my suggestion... Want to avoid the cam chain rattle and other undue tranny nosies from your F150 5.0? Learn to understand it and predict. It's a truck, not a Cadillac or Crown Vic. Be sensitive to the shift points and look ahead while driving, don't be spastic with your accelerator and braking. I know how to avoid the cam chain rattle, do you?
    BUT! whatever happens to your beloved trucks everyone... enjoy them! Around the corner waits a nice quiet battery operated wheelchair for you.
    Rich. One of my local Ford parts managers has told me that Motorcraft Full Synthetic has been discontinued. T of F?

      Kind of funny to see oil consumption rise again and again in cars. Folks forget about how cyclic it is. Ye-Olde LS2 had oil consumption problems above 3K rpm. The GM solution? Car should not be driven over 3K RPM. The LS2 being a high performance engine.. 3k.. basically it was a total BS punt of an engineering failure. Which is what is happening here really. A catch can should help. Helps the LS2s also helps the LT1 DI engine's problem with oil consumption.

      Its really kinda crappy. A manufacturer whos been building v 8's for more years than I've been alive is still having an issue like this pop up.
      I held off in 18 because it was common on the 5.0. I didn't see much on the internet in early 19. So, I thought Ford may have addressed the issue. About 2 weeks after I bought mine. I started seeing it pop up on the internet.
      Ive heard all kinds of reasons for it. But nobody seems to know for sure. Thinner rings, some kind of coating on the cylinders. Those are the 2 most common reasons I've heard.

    • @meatybtz
      @meatybtz Před 3 lety +1

      @@johnbessemer3777 Yep, same excuse GM used for the LS2s, and later LS engines that consumed oil excessively. Low friction rings and skirts.. My own LS2 eats oil, since there are no drips underneath.. it eats about 2Qts per oil change. I put a catch can on and caught some of it. But that is a retrofitting for piss poor engineering. They kept coming up with excuses until GM finally issued a TSB stating that because the excessive oil consumption only occurred over 3K rpm.. the engine is fine, just don't drive it over 3K RPM. No problem detected, operating as expected. Now, 14 years later.. Ford doing the SAME thing.
      Here is the thing. The LSXs and LS's that are rebuilt and honed with a torque-plate and with OEM aftermarket rings..... Don't consume the oil. My theory for the LS's with issues and the Coyote 5.0 for Ford is that they cylinders are not round. That plus low friction rings = oil blow by.

      As I've said in previous comments no I don't have enough data I've only been a couple of weeks and I never seen the vehicles come back with the same problem

    Plastic oil pan? Come on Ford.
    I swear the next truck I buy is going on the lift first so can have a good look at what my money is getting me. Never going to buy a truck with a plastic oil pan that's for sure.

      I bought a 2003 Toyota sequoia 2 years ago. Brought a flashlight with me and in the dealer lot I got on the ground and rolled under it slid all over to look at everything. I already did a lot of research online ahead of time for key things to check. But I looked at as much as I could and still took it to a Toyota specialist for a full inspection when I bought it, he said for an almost 20 year old vehicle with 200k+ miles it was in great shape

      My 2021 5.0 has a metal oil pan & metal plug as does my son's 2021, I guess they seen the error of their ways.
