- A short and simple guide on a useful Assassination technique I stumbled upon and appears to be as of yet undocumented.

While I wasn’t aware of it while making the video, it has come to my attention that there has been some discussion almost a decade ago about this particular tech on thehiddenblade.com by aurlcooljay. Leave it to the oldheads to find tech so obscure that we rediscover it a decade later-here’s the link to the original post. This video is a more consistent guide on how to perform this particular tech, but the original post is interesting to read and absolutely deserves credit:

What a blast from the past. Makes my heart feel good.
AC1 is just the game that keeps on giving
I'm still waiting for AC1 community collab between all the creators I've found so far
Ya know I remember doing this shit on accident ALOT & thinking nothing of it, amazing find Kino! Now if only I could play AC1 :(
This probably happened to me and many others lol, but it doesn’t seem like anyone has taken it upon themselves to to lab it out until now. It seems like the way AC1 treats edges is very unique
@@kinography9085 Treating the ledge like a perch in itself is something that should be brought back now that I know it was a thing lmao
@@SSJ_Langit’s genuinely pretty interesting and leads to certain things that even Ezio can’t do
This content is gold, never knew this was possible.
AC (1) never stops keeping surprising me. They really made an analogue world in which the character avatar can really interact with it in a million of different ways. Various such freerunning guides that have been popping up the last years in appreciation of its freerunning system eave me astounded by things that are doable but nobody knew of10 or 15 years ago. Indeed, this is a true game of skill and in no way does it hold your hand like later games.
AC1 is very special in how we keep learning about it even 15 years later
@@kinography9085
It also makes me a bit sad. While AC2 did bring forward great mechanics (e.g. being able to run away so that enemies lose you, ledge grabs, more different types of places to freerun) it was much more neatly organized and "digital", with very specific rules (the greatest example of this is the lack of vaulting in freerunning, which is the best expression of AC's "analogue" feel).
It just makes me feel that they made an insanely complex and interactive gameplay that was merely reserved to the Hunt of the Nine, and just in Masyaf, Acre, Jerusalem and Damascus. Imagine a real parkour maze like the Assassin Tombs in AC2, albeit even harder due to implementing AC's freerunning capabilities, wouldn't that be a beautiful sight!
It is amazing how the made this back in 2007/2008.
This actually gave me a neat idea for a game. Making ledges and edges count as nso for a few seconds intentionally would award players with good timing, allowing them to preform actions most would consider impossible. Imagine if this was in other games and actually fleshed out
AC1 seems to have done this, as you can also vault on edges if the other requirements are met IIRC
The way the throwing knives were thrown were a thing of a beauty . I wish they remake this.
The animations are fantastic, yes
Im happy that finally someone found it(:
Damn! There's so much hidden tech in this game, it's pretty amazing!
Definitely will be using this more and more. I didn’t think this was different than just a ground high profile running assassination but this makes it more clear how useful it is
It’s pretty similar, but with larger range. As a bonus, the transition from Parkour into the assassination is also incredibly smooth
What a great find Kino! You tutorialized this beautifully and gave it a sick thumbnail too, great work
Thanks, appreciate it!!
Didn't Butter do this one time and we thought it was the lip creating height difference?
I think he did. I guess I figured out what he did by accident all that time later
For the sake of us consolians, I hope this game gets a remake soon. Best game in the series.
E3 CG Trailer moment
Didn’t even think of that. Yeah, it’s kind of similar
Iirc you can air assassinate in 1, just from a lesser height than the later games. This is one example but I think it also works with any elevation like a roof or platform. It may also work from climbing positions like the cat-hang.
Yes, I have a video on air assassinations in AC1 as well, including ledge assassinations.
This is cool, and useful. I'm definitely going to try it out when I play this game again and it might help my sister, who started playing it, recently.
Nice, I hope you get some mileage out of it
I will definitely use this since I’m going back to play ac1 again for the achievements. Mainly flags tho which probably won’t be fun
They definitely won’t be fun lol
Yeah i use this a lot, it can make things look really smooth if your trying to mix assassinations within parkour sequences or for all around fast paced but controlled gameplay. But you're right i haven't seen the technique actually explained anywhere so good vid!
Yes, I’m sure a lot of people have probably already experienced this at one point or another, although it seems like there has yet to be a guide or resource explaining how to do this consistently. It’s very useful
@@kinography9085 you could say that for a lot of AC1 techniques so your vids are very useful. Also, not sure if you know but something similar to this can be done on AC2 but instead of a smooth (parkour/air assassination) ezio almost glides off the ground when he lands straight into a high profile assassination. I can do it consistently with proper timing and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do it before. Not sure if you know what I mean
@@PeeTiii Interesting, I might have to look into this
@@kinography9085 hate to plug but if you’re interested, 2:40 of my most viewed video is an example of it (but you can do it from further away which makes the gliding more exaggerated) it happens when you high profile assassinate at the exact time you hit the floor from a distance far enough from the target that will make you do the jumping assassination. It turns it almost into one motion
@@PeeTiii I’ll take a look, thank you!
yup, this works because of something im pretty sure i explained in one of your comment sections a while back, but just to be sure:
AC1 treats edges/ledges as both an NSO(Non-Standing Object) and as a standard surface. In normal language, it treats them the same way as those wooden beams that you see between/on the side of buildings. This means that, if one is skilled enough with movement inputs, can make Altair jump to these "invisible" NSOs, albeit the game only considers them as such only for a few frames. This, apart from the technique you explain in this video, also allows for never-seen-before Vaulting angles.
Important to note - Since all games up to Revelations(included) use the same engine and base code for movement, this trick applies there too, with some minor differences, of course.
Hope i helped with this :).
Yes, AC1’s treatment of edges is quite an amazing unintended behavior. It’s incredibly potent and it’s genuinely impressive how many bootleg assassination types you can get just through AC1’s snap-targeting system
@@kinography9085 Indeed, i use this tech all the time when i play, it's just amazing. Im also working on a guide for Reddit about AC1 Parkour Down, hopefully i can clarify as much as i can, so people stop hating on the game for once 👌.
@@triple7evenn I’d love to read it if you want to link it when it’s done
@@kinography9085 absolutely!
@@kinography9085 yo, i just made a public draft link to the post, can i hit you up in some DMs or something to share it?
But you can run and hit them, but I didn't know that
I'm honestly wondering why we never got an ac1 remake yet but black flag is in the works
Definitely weird for sure, but I guess Ubi thinks AC4 would be more profitable, which is probably true, at any rate
@@kinography9085 true but all of the things you can do with an ac1 remake all of the features that couls be added from other ac titles
Ac1 is a gemstone
It really is
we literally need a remake
here me out
a remake kinda with unity's engine but the same story and everything else
it'd be perfect
Hard disagree about Unity’s engine, but sure
@@kinography9085 hmm you know thats funny ive learned in the past two days maybe youre right and i just like the parkour and animations
so whole new engine then?
@@Farumazula762 I’m kind of in the “new engine entirely” camp myself
@@kinography9085 i think its time i join that club because i wouldn't dare recommend the rpg engine
I did this all the time…no one else did??
Probably a chunk of people used the trick either by accident or figured it out. This is just the first time it’s getting a guide video explaining it, probably
how did u turn off the hidden blade sound when assassinating? like how when u assassinate it's just the dramatic whoosh sound
It’s something specific to air Assassinations
@@kinography9085 thats weird bc it plays the sound any time the blade is used for me
@@_koshi it’s a bit inconsistent, but air Assassinations will often have only the whoosh sound effect, although it isn’t always the case
@@kinography9085 ay great video tho man i love ac1 🫡
Does this work on any of the Ezio games?
Not particularly. The only things AC2 really inherited were the instant kill hidden blade counters and timed combo strikes. Otherwise, I would recommend watching Execution Producer’s Excellent AC2 combat guide:
