  • 40 years later, through Wayne Gretzky, Mike Bossy, Mario Lemieux and even Sam Gagner, his record still stands. The Toronto Maple Leafs commemorated the 40th anniversary of the night Darryl Sittler made NHL history with a 10-point night.

I met Darryl Sittler when I was working in Whistler at the main grocery store in the towm center (oh, the stories I could tell...lol and not so lol...), when I worked as a cashier, and Darryl was playing for Detroit, and well, I noticed him right away with his wife(?) etc., and "I tried" to be cool, but my nerves unfortunately got the best of me, and I "stumbled" on my talking to him a bit...I did say how great it was to meet him and all of that, but my nerves got me off my "game", I hope that he realized that!!!!!!! P.S.-I shook hands with Tiger Williams (With the Kings at the time and he sure had a strong grip, big guy in that 5' 11 frame!!!!!) at the conclusion of the 24 hour relay in Burnaby, B.C., 1987 (I was running for the Whistler Powder Hogs, complete with pig costumes for the closing ceremonies,oh, I wasn't wearing the pig costume when I met the Tiger, he would have eaten me alive!!!!! lol), and he sure was in great shape...his upper body was, well, you could see that he would be more than a handful to mess with, and I heard that he rode his bike regularily/semi regularily to Squamish and back fom West Vancouver at the time. It's awesome to see my all time favourite goalie, Doug Favell (So Cool, Stylin' and Athletic, a real inspiration!!!!!!!) shaking hands, well, the great Red (Pyramid Power) Kelly reaching out to Doug to shake hands, that was awesome to see, and good on you Dave Reece for attending and being a great sport, I mean, when things go bad (I know how bad things can just keep getting worse no matter what you do, unfortunately I had ONE game like that, but not as many GA, but a fellow teammate's actions toward me before that game caused my "magical" nightmare...) OR good, they can REALLY flow no matter which way they go, oh what a feeling!!!!!!!

10 goals in one game is crazy, 10 points from one player is insane, I remember that game, I'm an old Boston hockey player, Daryl's 10 pts was legendary, it's a record that hasn't been broken and I wouldn't think it ever will be, amazing. Thank you.

@@lorddaelk Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster were a comedy duo in Canada back in the day. They did skits and such like Straight Man, etc. Usually Wayne was the joker in those bits. In one 30 minute episode they had Wayne under contract to PLAY for the Leafs, but he sucked so he wound up being the organist.

2 months after the Red Wings moved to Joe Louis, I attended a game vs. the Leafs. Darryl had 1 assist in each of the first two periods. Down 3-2 early in the 3rd, he scored at 5:08 and 11:55. He assisted on Wilf Paiment's 2nd goal of the game at 14:32, and completed his hattrick (and 30th goal of the season) with an empty net goal at 19:42 for a modest 6 point game.

Wasn't Salming's first goal in the game a milestone for him?? Maybe I'm not recalling this correctly. And for some reason I keep thinking Johnny Bucyk scored a milestone goal in the game as well(500th??). Feel free, anyone,to correct me about this too.
