    You can see dougies tears building right from the get go. I always felt after he left the leafs that his heart stayed in Toronto. To all you smaller kids who are told you'll never make it because of your size...play with heart like Mr. Gilmour did and things will workout for you. Thanks for the memories dougie.

      It's a different game now. Size isn't as important. I mean, you can argue ALL YOU WANT TO, but being from Windsor, Ontario, home of the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League, I just have one name, Ryan Ellis !! A defenseman from the Spits, now playing for the Nashville Predators, and still a defenseman. Oh ya, his height ? A towering 5'9 !! So, while it use to be about size, it no longer is...but it's still about the heart !! Thanks Dougie !! For that old-time hockey !!!

    • @aaronmichael7116
      @aaronmichael7116 Před 4 lety

      I didn't see tears. I saw alot of him being humble. I don't think he liked the attention. Remember he had a few issues when playing. Most of all, his babysitter accusing him of sexual assault. And in Windsor shortly after the untimely death of Bob Probert, I saw him with Dani, Bob's wife. And yes, they were dating. So.e drink ass yells out, 'hey Gilmour, you wouldn't be with her if #24 was still alive" !! He smirked, she left.

      I think Dougie missed having a heavyweight who could protect him a bit and rip shots top cheese on his wing especially lol Dougie and Wendel was a deadly combo.

    Im 49 watching and remembering this.... Dougies years in Toronto were also some of the best years of my life. We had Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto Maple Leafs grit, Paul Morrison, the fans, the go leafs go chant... the city was on fire in the early 90's. Great times. Thanks Dougie 93.

    LOL what do you mean respectful? Did you think the Leaf fans would boo his parents and junior coaches? Of course the fans would cheer for them. I can't wait to for the Alumni game, seeing Gilmour, Sundin, Tucker, Domi and Clark together again is going to be a treat.

    He was one of the Leafs best, most cherished , hard working guys out there on the ice,,,,
    UNFORTUNATELY , he didn't have the best team mates, as in , what it took to get the final job
    done,,,,,,
    Ya cant win Stanley Cups with just one or two top performers ! ! !
    You need a village to raise idiots - - -
    And - If there's no good idiots,,,,,
    well then,,,not such a great villiage EH ! ! ! ! !

    • @szahmad2416
      @szahmad2416 Před rokem

      I would argue he had some great players with him...but no one carried the team like he did. That is, no one would inspire others to greatness the way he did. Felix Potvin in net, Nikolai Borchevsky and Dave Andreychuck were all great players, and of course, there was Wendel Clark as well. People forget, 1993 was the first playoff appearance by the Leafs since 1990, and their first Conference Finals appearance since 1978, after which the dreaded Harold Ballard era entered its peak, ruining great captains like Darryl Sittler and Dave Keon.
