4GB Vram for 20$ extra is a good trade off. 6700XT to 7800XT is a generational leap. If the 4070 came at 500 that would have been great too.
Well said.
@@ErockOnTech now what if we pair 7950X3D + RTX 3070 will the fps get better
Until last week I was on Nvidia for a decade! I'm totally blown away with my 7800xt and the performance is amazing! Nvidia is just taking the p*ss
Indeed ! After my GTX 960, GTX 1070, and 1080ti, Nvidia can go to HELL ! I'm so happy with my (just $467,-) Radeon RX-7800XT ! IT just rules !!! AMD 4 PRESIDENT !
@@gertjanvandermeij4265 which one should i get 4070 or a rx 7800xt
same @@gertjanvandermeij4265
Got the 7800xt as an upgrade for my 3060 i really love the card, super fast, able to slay on all games at 1440p. Sometimes, i turn up super resolution to 4k for funsies. Love it! I miss RTX Broadcast though so I hope AMD can figure out a way to get Noise Suppression at par with RTX Broadcast.
I have the 3070 and considering to upgrade to this... what do you think?
@@PolacosendreaI upgraded from the 3070 to the 7800xt and ended up returning it to get a 7900xt. The 7800xt would be perfect at 1440p but I game at 4k on my main rig and want at least a constant 60fps.
i heard ‘krisp’ is a good alternative for rtx voice/mic suppression but I havent used it since im still on my gtx 1660 ti (I am upgrading to the rx 7800 xt though 😁)
@@Polacosendrea Same here (3070 owner) - but it is not that big jump between these two -> so I have to have balls not to upgrade now and wait at least for RX 8800/8700 series with RDNA 4 - 8800XT should be around 7900XT performance wise and around 500 bucks during 2024.
I appreciate the solid advice and the work that you do to make things easier for all of us! Sorry for being late, since you're discords gone I'm not getting the alerts for videos anymore
16gb vram is vital on 1440p and above. So i bought 7800xt , i wouldnt even consider 4070ti even if it is the same price . And yeah i am dead serious mate ty for the upload
You’re most welcome! Thank you for watching and showing some support! I agree about the vram. It’s vital these days.
Not vital but nice to have. Playing 1440p with a 6650xt (8gb). Usually with a combo of medium/high settings. 7800xt is very tempting but I will wait it out a bit. Some driver updates and perhaps a price cut would be nice.
@@user-fd7og5cc7k Driver updates are inevitable. AMD and Nvidia both release driver updates multiple times a month depending on game launches and pending bugs.
There are numerous videos on CZcams now showing where you should at least have 12 GB of VRAM. 16 gb is recommend and I say it’s vital because it’s inevitable that you’ll eventually need that much. 8 GB is usable, but it’s shelf life expiring fast.
On my 6700XT that has 12 GB of VRAM, I haven’t had any problems in the games I play, and I play at high and ultra settings at 1440p.
I bought one too with the Avatar bundle, 7800xt was on a good sale. Have a 7900XTX and 1060, 3060. Depending on the games choice but the 3060 still makes 1440P at lower settings with less heat. Am hoping the 7800XT is the 1440P I want with less heat.
Excellent video, well thought out. You make some interesting points, and it's pretty much what I'm thinking. I'm glad I went back to AMD for my current build, with the 7800XT, as in my region AMD is usually better value for money, especially as someone who does prefer to play at native 1440, and am not fussed on RT, DLSS, Frame Gen, etc. I did try consoles, and they are not for me, and I was fortunate enough to come into enough money to upgrade my PC, but I did see the value proposition consoles offer for those who are budget conscious.
Thanks for this very well done retro -2 current comparison. Take Care and Blessings For All.
A very nice point to analyse. Keep it up, nice video 👍
Im currently in the process of building my first pc and this will be my first ever pc I’ve ever owned! Thank you so much for this video as its helped my figure out what gpu I want to purchase!
Great video!
Thank you 🙏
What good Freesync monitor can you recommend if I were to go with the RX 7800XT? My very old monitor only uses G-Sync (was one of the first 1440p 165Hz G-Sync monitors back then)?
Great video. I really think the prices are still nuts 🥜. The best values in the sub 500$ price range are usually in the used market. Hunting around and making sure you’re using a credible source or seller will pretty much ensure you have a good result too. I’ve bought and sold a few on the used market myself and I know what to look out for so it’s easy to say it’s worth it but if your new to the hardware scene or used market it can be intimidating and for that I say reach out and ask for help either via some where you know hardware experts hang out and can give credible advice to if it’s either too good to be true or a spot on deal.
I really hope prices come back down but by the looks of it they may stay stale for a while
Yeah it’s a weird place to be in right now. Maybe with the Super refresh, Nvidia pricing will start to make more sense. But you’re right about the used market for sure. The used market is packed with good deals!
Paid (just) $467,- for my ASRock RX-7800XT, and IT IS AWESOME !!! Money spend well !!! RTX can suck it !
Great info. Keep it up. I don't think I'm ever going to upgrade my gpu lol
You should! Lol 😂 you’re missing out!
Thank God for reviews like you guys who are there to torment these gpu manufacturers and keeping them in check with the prices. Good work love the video
just put in an order for a 7800xt last night. That card looks like the clear winner this generation. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
Good video, keep it up
The GTX 1080Ti sold for like $630 I think, now the top card of the generation costs around 2 GRAND now.
I don't think it would have changed the results much but that 3070 looked like it was struggling; mine comfortably ran close to 2000mhz stock at around 70 degrees where that one is barely over 1700mhz in the upper 70 degree range
I think overall this brings up a very good point that people need to consider. Take the rumored "4070 Ti Super" - names are losing their meaning as marketing is going crazy trying to have people feed into the idea that there is any kind of true generational relationship anymore. The real factors for anyone who isn't going to look at the hard specs (which is completely understandable) is to compare price to performance. What are you actually getting for - as you used in your example - $500 between generations. This also opens up the discussion for comparing discounted cards from a previous generation that may still be 100% viable (i.e. the 6800 XT to compare to this video) or even used cards if a risk factor is calculated out or something a prospective buyer is willing to consider. If someone wants to take it a bit further, bust out an inflation calculator and adjust accordingly for arguments sake, but the core idea here of comparing cost-to-cost I think is a very wise move especially for the PC gamer who isn't also a hardware enthusiast. I mean, even for the hardware enthusiast, this is still a good baseline to work with. I believe I am going to move forward with this new mentality instead of just ogling the next NVIDIA naming disaster.
I have the 3070 but is it good for 1440p 144 to 240hz monitors
I dont play AAA games as much and If I play I play more with low mid settings and have the 1440p for working reading watching videos, programming etc, but can 3070 run 1440p?
It was just my bday 2 days ago and I’ve procured a good amount of bday money I’ve been wanting to use to upgrade to a decent desktop especially since I’ve had a r9 5950x just sitting in my drawers. Im def gonna be pairing the 7800xt with the cpu thank you for knowledge.
4060ti 16 gb has a problem and it is the slow 128 bit bus ... too slow for 16gb
I just got the 16 gig rx 7800xt with my new ryzen 9 9700x. And 32 gig of DDR5. Can't wait to try it out.
Little off topic but what do you think will be next after path tracing? Lets say in a hypothetical future path tracing becomes standard and even affordable systems can handle it with good fps. After that where do we go from there?
Raytracing and Pathtracing are gimmicks that nVidia bilked their loyal customers on, knowing full well upcoming game engines were building the same tech in to raster.
3D Gaussian Splatting if the hype around it turns out to be anything, maybe. It would probably be a while before that filters down to gaming though.
its a gimmick for suckers
Do you recommend 7800 XT over the 4070TI I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and what gpu should i pair?
I bought my son asrock steel legend 7800xt, instead of the 4070 solely because of the 16 GB of vram. I figure yeah maybe there's a little ray tracing performance he's missing out on, but I'm not sure if Minecraft has mastered ray tracing yet.
dude tge kids have no clue whar rt is lol
dang if play minecraft on 7800xt don't think that issue lol
If we take slight inflation into account the 7800 xt is cheaper 👀
How mutch would you max spend on a used 3080ti/3090?
I wonder do you think a 7900xtx would run well with an i5 13600k at 1440p?
Console vs PC: I think both definately have their sides. Consoles are generally cheaper, easier to use, and hook straight into your TV and home theater. They're pretty straightforward for entertainment stuff. On the other hand, PCs have much more variety to pick what you need, and they allow you to do so many other things. You can use the same PC to game, work, record and produce music, edit videos, and pretty much anything you could imagine, and you can upgrade it far beyond console performance. Meanwhile a fast PC is also expensive, often bulky, and requires more set up and upkeep.
For me, I've been a PC gamer forever and I think will be for life, but I would definately recommend a console for someone who wanted a device for entertainment purposes, wasn't very technically inclined, and didn't want to spend too much money.
And I do have some wonderful memories of playing at my neighbour's houses on NES's, SNES's Sega Megadrives and N64s, and then getting my own PS1. Then again we were also gaming on PC at the same time. Those were days when games didn't all come out on every device like they seem to now.
I can see both sides, I pay less in subscription costs for pc gaming. My friend has 2 current gen consoles requiring an Xbox membership and PSN membership on top of 2 ESO Plus subscriptions for each. It bothers me more than it bothers her though. Have owned consoles SNES-GBP-PS4-3DS, played Switch also, they have their place too. The plug and play nature is nice. I like being able to upgrade on pcs but maintenance can happen where maybe one rig gets a bad driver update or something I need to fix.
Console are only cheaper short-term, PC can be cheaper long-term. You pay a higher upfront cost for the same experience as console in addition to a computer, and save money in other place.
Consoles compare to mid ranged gaming PCs these days, you can get pretty small with cases. Unless you skimp on cooling, I would bet that a PS5 and series X would fail sooner than a PC. Previous gens were bad with that. My pc is easy to clean with an air duster, only clip off off the glass side panel.
The PS5 slim does have better cooling and dust protection than before but such and upgrade would cost you the entire system. What could be a $50 upgrade on PC. The more you spend the better and longer it will last. PC saves so much more in the long-run, if you're doing things right.
Awesome video. The Nvidia snobs need to see this. Price to performance is the best deciding factor.
Well thought out. Here’s one comparison between the 7800xt he talks about vs amds own 6800xf. The 6800xt at times beats the newer 7800xt but someone can be found on sale. Last week I got a 6800xt for $439. So especially if you catch a sale it’s worth considering.
Pretty happy with my 3070, but I wish it has more RAM to be future proof.
Otherwise, it's got more than enough headroom for me for the time being.
I got a RX 6800 last summer(22) right before the second crypto crash for around retail. I think I'll be fine until 2025 at least.
I agree. You’ll be fine.
Got my 3060 Ti for $500 in early 2022. Woulda loved for that to have been a 3070 or 3070 ti by that point in the GPU’s life cycle.
Still can't decide between
ASUS DUAL GeForce RTX™ 4070
vs
SAPPHIRE AMD RADEON PULSE RX 7800XT
In my area they're pretty similar in pricing :/
Anyone got any advice?
I hope that 7800XT Avatar deal wasn't bad. I've had a few GPUs, 1060, 3060 12gb, 7900XTX (Starfield bundle).
What do you mean by “wasn’t bad?” Are you looking to buy it?
Hey what would you say to putting a water loop on a 6950xt, just the card. The parts come out to $500
You think is worth it...i can shove 1200mV into it and overclock it to the max and gain 10fps!
And it will be my first water loop.
Also i don't see myself buying the current cards.. I got the 6950xt for $600.. I'm not paying $900 for 30% more performance or 1600% for double the performance
Yeah water cooling is exciting and fun. Your system will be colder and quieter for sure. You just have to make sure you use it a long while to get your moneys worth. Water cooling isn’t cheap. The maintenance is super annoying. So you have to be very committed to it. I’ve been there and done that. I scratched the itch. Now I’m done.
I recently came from console i honestly like how my pc runs i have a ryzen 7 5600 g processor with a b-550 prim motherboard, 32 (16 x 2) gb of ram and a rx 580 which i picked up for about as much as a top teir gaming console, im doing my research on a graphics card and im settling on the rx 7800 x
I wouldn't use the word "settling" as that is a great gpu - I know you mean "choosing" ;) You will love it as I do the 2 of mine! Enjoy :)
Why didn't you get the 5700G? It's just a few buck more, but you get 2 more CPU cores (4 Threads) and 2 more CU (Computation Unit) for the GPU part, which makes it even more powerfull.
The 6800 XT what like a year and a half ago was selling at micro center for $1,560 after sales tax $500 for the 7800 XT which is basically a tad better than a 6800 XT once they fix the drivers. Especially I would assume in ray tracing performance and has the new bells and whistles isn't bad but it only because of the crazy prices we were paying
Not ONE real gamer NEEDS Gay Tracing ! It's complete BS, Only interesting for movie/video producers ! In an fast online game, I DON'T have time to look at fancy lights/shadows !

Idk what people want, the data is available over years. If your data falls extremely out of norms, then there's an issue obviously, other than that, I don't get the issue.
I think people just want to complain in a lot of instances. lol
Yes, you are correct. It’s also the “I only buy from brand X” syndrome. If you only buy Nvidia, then you have every reason to think that $500 GPUs are getting worse. But if you look at AMD, you see that your $500 gets you a lot more.
Very interesting and revealing comparison! I have been an nVidia user for years now, in fact, my last AMD gpu is the HD6870 from 2010! (Which I still have.) This year however, though I do have the 4090, I also have 3 AMD cards - 7900xtx and two 7800xt; Instead of purchasing a 4080, I chose a second 7800xt because it is just so good at $500! Thanks again for the great Video!
Thank you 🙏
I only have 10 gpus and I wish I had a bigger inventory to make more interesting videos
I hear you on that. I wish I had a bigger inventory as well.
Confusing comparison. I think I get you point
If I'm gaming mostly at 1440p at 144Hz. Should I go with the 7800XT or increase the budget and get a 7900XT/XTX?
7800xt is a great card, especially at 1440p. You don't really need to step up to the xtx as there will always be something better, but if you have the money and it doesn't hurt you, then all the better - but the 7800xt is truly awesome! I have two of them and a 7900xtx and two 4090s, just FYI (so, I'm saying all of that from a true ownership point-of-view).
@@RKBenchmarker Which processor should I pair the 7800xt with? The 7700x or the 7800x3D?
@jensonpais I've got both the 7950x and the 7800x3d - man, the 7800x3d is a great cpu! Isn't it on sale now?
Get the 7900xt.
@@RKBenchmarker I'm looking for the sales. I have decided to go with the 7800x3d
Just picked up a 7800 xt (Powercolor Red Devil) and I can't wait to be back in the AMD GPU world. I'm upgrading from a 2070.... it is time.
Awesome! Congratulations!
Here in my country, because taxes, pretty much every price is doubled, so a 7800 XT here costs a little over 1000$, so we care for "Performance per buck" a lot more than the average folk, and with AMD 7000 GPUs pretty much destroying NVIDIA GPUs 4000 series in raw performance, it's a no brainer choice.
Isn't socialism great?
@mhaas281 Freaking best, 😂😂
How much does 20 vram last
I think the only thing that skewed the data here is the SAM technology when pairing an AMD GPU and CPU. If you had an Intel processor, you would have had a more controlled test comparison
Perhaps. But I think I was able to adequately make my point with the data presented. But there is always room for improvement for sure. Since this video released, I have acquired two Intel CPUs.
i have a founders edition rtx 3070 i want to upgrade what would be a good upgrade if you dont mind me asking
I would look at either amd or Nvidia but make sure your getting the 7900 xt or 4070 ti so your getting a more substantial upgrade from your current card.
Or try to hold out one more generation to get more in that 500 dollar range
i have 3080 and never ran into vram issue at 1440p
That’s fantastic. What games do you play?
@@ErockOnTech I tried cyberpunk phantom liberty, outlast 2, plague tale requiem, and never had any stutters or went over 9.6gb vram even with rt. dlss helps tho
@@davidvictory9764 DLSS helps a lot. If you disable DLSS, you’ll see an increase in VRAM.
Depends on the game some games will try and fit it in the buffer then if it can't it will pull in textures when or if it can this is where you get pop in textures Resident Evil does this. 10GB is more than 8GB of the RTX3070 so your RTX3080 has 25% more frame buffer available to it and like you have said it's using 9.6GB meaning you only have a few hundred MB's free meaning you will start to encounter problems in future games where you will need to tweak the settings to fit it within the 10GB frame buffer. Also yes DLSS will help as the image is being rendered at a lower resolution then upscaled. So it's a 1080p then upscaled to 1440p this only has a slight overhead in memory cost over 1080p but far less than 1440p@@davidvictory9764
@@davidvictory9764So you mean you are not having VRAM issues because you are pondering your use cases. So not a really true statement
i got a 3070 with a 5700g cpu, i wanna play 1440p ultra wide, gpu i want is a 7800xt, can my cpu handel that?
It can handle it. But there may be some bottle necks at times. It’ll play everything well enough.
I fully agree regarding the current trend of using software tricks to make GPUs look better than they are and to sell poorly optimized games. I run none of it.
I own 3070 TI. Should i choose 7800 XT or 7900 GRE? What is your opinion? Thanks 🤗
7800 XT.
@@ErockOnTech Thanks 🤗
1. Great video, we said, I agree with the message you are sending with this video.
2. The problem is if someone starts watching the video and skips the intro, they are going to have a problem figuring out what they are watching.
3. The one thing I see a problem with your end conclusion is this, someone who is going to buy a GPU NOW and has a much older than a 3 year old GPU/system, if one at all, they are going to see performance, price and power consumption. And where the first two AMD can be said they are competitive if not better depending on the model, the power consumption of their cards is still too high. Does it matter? For anyone who wants to be careful not to waste more energy than they have to and who is not living in one of those countries with very cheap electricity like the USA, yes it matters a lot. You could see it in this video how for some tests the AMD solution while newer still consumed at times close to a third more electricity. Now if you take this electricity consumption per not frame, but per dollar spent to buy the GPU, AMD is losing this one. If you go a step further and compare it to a 4000 series of similar tier GPU, it's a blow out.
My point is, if AMD manages to bring down the power consumption, it will be a far far far better alternative for many people over Nvidia. But if one uses max 200W and the other almost 300W, it's game over for many people.
Thanks for a good video.
Trusteft.
If someone skips the intro or doesn't read the video description, they deserve to be lost.If you can't pay your electric, then you have a lot more to worry about than a gpu - and your priorities are in the wrong place! And if you are talking about power consumption, my 3090Ti is awful - especially compared to AMD - why wasn't that hammered on last year?! There was only about a 40w avg difference from what I saw in the video.
@@RKBenchmarker It is up to them if they don't watch or read the intro, that doesn't change the result.
Life isn't as easy as you say, electric bill included. It's not all black and white.
I don't know why the 3090 was not hammered as you say. I was still making fun of it.
Yes on average perhaps there was a 40W difference, but it did reach up to 80+ at times. But it was also another generation card. Trying to make a good point as he is doesn't change that fact either.
@TrusteftTech What's the per watt performance ratio at that point between the two cards? It's not like AMD was running equal fps at a higher wattage. Also, those were default settings; the 7800xt has some nice headroom to undervolt with a performance increase on top of that and it would have performed at a much lower voltage than the 3070. But of course that wasn't the focus of the video, and most people are going to run out-of-the-box settings. Just something to consider.
@@RKBenchmarker I am not going to repeat myself about the power consumption. You don't have to agree with me. Regarding undervolting, as you said, most people are not going to do that. Even if they are aware of the option. So I guess you answered yourself. :)
I currently have rtx 3070. Is it worth it to upgrade to 7800xt?
Worth it I would say, almost similar prices for more performance, that's is if you could sell your 3070
You could have done the same tests with a 7700 xt, and it still would have beat the 3070. Also from what I read from AMD the 7800xt was to replace the rx 6800 non xt.
I recently upgraded to the 7800xt from the 2070super it's a big upgrade for 1440p170hz I went with AMD cause better performance for the money than Nvidia I just looking for the raw performance not ray tracing
So, given the 4060ti 16GB is $500 and offers little improvement over the 3070, the 7800XT is a far better buy offering 25 to 30% better performance?
look at the power consumption !
Worse. And not just because there are stronger cards (that cost more) but also that you don't get the same performance in modern games like you did 10 years ago with 500$ cards in games then. Something like the GTX 980 would crush any new AAA game back then, the RTX 4060ti now is "just fine".
From the ATI Radeon 8500 (with 128 MB vram) I purchased back in 2002 to the Nvidia 4070 Ti I purchased few months back, all I always wanted was a decent price on a video card (regardless of the branding) to play games on my PC. After seeing that Nvidia just became a trillion dollar company (without taking into account their consumer graphics card segment), I can see Nvidia totally leaving the consumer graphics card market leaving only AMD and Intel. Yikes! 😢
I am not biased when it comes to cards, I currently have the 3070 and looking at the Nvidia offering I see a 4060 TI 8gig is todays equal to the 3070. Almost neck to neck performance. So even if you compared a Nvidia 4060TI you are going to see this 7800 XT eats through it. AMD has this bracket beat. And figure on double FPS on both cards if you need those AI options.
The challenge being is, the 6700XT should not have been 480USD in the first place. 5700XT was 400USD (which was already expensive, bought mine at 340usd half a year after release at around christmas, and I still feel like it was only a "meeeh" deal), and the 6700XT was 480USD, so 20% more expensive, while being roughly 30% stronger, give or take. Lukewarm. So we missed one generational uplift, and now comparing a "missed hit" to a new series. Of course now it is looking better. But hey, where is the missed one uplift? Never ending story it will be.
I would also like to mention that inflation is something to consider. $500 3 years ago is not the same at $500 today. It's + $90 more now
If you have a Budget of 600 Dollar for the next 6 years: Is it more worth to buy a 300 $ Card now and another 300 $ card after 3 years. OR is it more worth to buy a 600 $ card right now? In both scenarios one would also have to consider the potential Resell Price after some years.
This video was very much on amd side. But I like that as most people think that they are a second market especially on the gpu side bit, At the end of day if people don’t trust the product you’re buying then the big dog always win.
7800xt is king of 1440p gaming and lot of 4k .
Since I didn't need to upgrade my 450w PSU, I got a 4060 ti 16gb for a solid $430. Best bang for my buck in that price range.
Lmao shill alert
@@asdf_asdf948 ok I wouldn't reccomend it unless your psu is crazy lacking
@@asdf_asdf948 woulda gotten a 7800xt but with the PSU upgrade it'd cost like $630
Also considering getting the 7800xt over my RTX3070
Not even a question worth asking. The RX 7800 XT for $479.99 for dual cards, $499.99 for triple fan. Done. Nothing else worth saying. Amazing GPU. Also, looking at PC Part Picker, the 4070 Ti (16gb) is $700 minimum. Every version. The 7800 XT starts at $480 (16gb). No comparison.
I just wish my 3070 had at least 12gb of VRAM....honestly i'd be happy with it for another 2-3 years if that was the case!
Well said. Crypto mining really hurt the economy as both AMD and Nvidia are trying to maximize profit margins by naming and charging a tire higher on "newer" cards. I've been thinking the 7800xt is the true generational bump from the 6700xt although in today's environment, they want us to accept a 10-15% improvement at the same price/tier. 2070 was $500 but 3060 gave 2070-like performance at $330. 2060 was 59% faster than 1060 and even beat the 1070 and 1070ti. Now a 4070 while it is better than the 3070, you have to pay a price premium proportionate to the performance improvement over the 3070. We also don't get the recent discounts Americans have been getting on the 4070 here in Canada.
Yeah at this point, I’m hoping Radeon 8000 and RTX 5000 fix things. I hope we get back to happier gamers and better value GPUs. Only time will tell. Thanks for watching and showing support! I really appreciate it!
In 2021 you could not get the RTX 3070 for $500...it was like ~$700 and the RTX 3080Ti was ~ $1200 to $1400. That's why I bought a 3070 after selling my 1080TI for $400. I still run the 3070 today and loving it.
AMD has always been king with “budget”cards so definitely no surprise here. That was one big thing we talked about when getting the 5700xt and unfortunately driver issues have always plagued Amd cards. Seems like they have finally got a good balance on their cards so they are worth the money. Good video as always erock!
I like that you put quotes around "budget" as $500 doesn't feel like budget lol! Also, just to touch on AMD drivers, I too always thought it was only the driver that was bad and causing crashes. However, I've recently learned that though it is sometimes the driver, in most cases that has not been what was happening - aside from user settings (undervolting too aggressively, etc), the biggest factor is how AMD drivers work to prevent whole system shutdowns - they actually crash the driver to prevent your whole system from crashing when they detect a system instability that you are not even aware of, such as RAM setting, cpu oc, etc. I wish AMD would make this better known. So, we need to begin running better whole system stability tests for our builds!
i've ran amd cards for the last 8 years and switched from nvidia because of the driver issues. in 8 years i've had 1 amd driver issue ( the windows and amd driver bug). the rest have been game bugs! if your game does updates for nvidia first before amd, it is not a driver bug. for the first 5 years i'd have to roll back drivers for amd as the games wouldn't update for amd for months after the drivers would come out. that isn't a driver issue that a game issue. amd has come very far in it's drivers and until the rx series they were put on the back burner, everyone believed the "on line" paid nvidia shills saying amd drivers are bad. most of the time it's because the game/programs aren't up to date on amd drivers.
Amd aren't the king of budget cards, judging by the steam survey Nvidia are dominant however cards like the rx580 and 5700xt are increasing in popularity these days for truly budget GPUs.. Amd is the king of price/performance. You will get more bang for your buck from AMD than Nvidia. Only way I'd buy an Nvidia card is if I'm in the market for a 4090...but even that card is way overpriced now
2y ago I buy second hand rtx 3070 for 490€ when new was 800€, to day rx 7800xt goes 699€ and I got rx 6950xt for 800€ for 2 month ago.
Think its worse, best card for money now are rx 6800 for 370$ ,its only 10-15% slower then 7800xt while consuming 30% less or 170-180watts which brings it pretty close to rtx 4060ti consumption while be something faster with more vram
I had a relative who needed a GPU for her computer for gaming. It boiled down to a 4070 or a 7800XT. I went with the 7800XT as I'm not giving Nvidia any business. As a matter of fact, when I go to upgrade from my 3070, I'm holding out for Radeon myself. Nvidia really messed up with this whole "Cut memory bandwidth bus and use software tricks like DLSS to offset the deficiency, simulating more frames trick." Give me raw hardware and raw memory bandwidth! That's what you're going to get with Radeon. Raytracing? Who gives a flying F about that? I've had my 3070 for 2 and a half years now, and I have no once needed Ray tracing. I want frames! Not oversaturated colors and performance robbing shading tricks!
My 3070 has been dying for a while now. I've tried literally everything multiple times. The 7800 xt will definitely be its replacement
*"when you look at native rendering performance" ok. Yah just discount all the included tech that comes with the 4060 like DLSS3 and AV1 encoding. Also the 7800 XT is $550 not $500 derr
oh wow im honestly surprised, i mean obviously the 7800xt is better but doesnt seem worth it for 500 to upgrade my 3070 to it 💀
it's like the difference between 70 and 90fps, i was expecting a bigger difference tbh
6800 non XT was $550 when they launch, I bought one the first day and still got the receipt. 7800 XT should compare to 6800 non XT not with the 6700 xt
7800xt for $500 or 3070ti for $329? That's what I am currently pondering.
From personal experience, the 7800xt is such a great card, hard to turn it down; especially having much more ram and at least 25% more performance and it will definitely age better.
I would either try to find a used 3080/3080ti for $400 or just get the 7800xt.
Im using 6700xt now
7800xt is pretty disappointing imho
Barely 5% better than previous gen and the news of rdna4 topping out at 8800XT will be interesting 😂
Performance jump of less than 20% shud be considered boring if it’s more than $549
$599 shud atleast bring 30% better at 1080p
As far as I remember 3070 was 800-1200€ gpu until late 2022 here lol
pc is too expensive but is the same with console you buy them for 500euros and then you have to pay 80euros the games and then you need to make playstation plus to play online for some reasons is not worth it also!!
I'd take a current gen 16g card over a last gen 8gb card any day.
This is one of the most bizarre comparison videos I have ever seen in the tech space. You're comparing up a tier, from a different manufacturer, from a different generation 3 years apart. Then you compare the 3070 to the 4060Ti, going DOWN a step in the models within NVidia's lineup, right before comparing the 6700XT to the 7800XT at 1440, which is going UP a step in models in the AMD lineup, ignoring the fact that on that same chart the 6800XT vs the 7800XT are nearly identical in performance gen-on-gen.
It takes this sort of crazy mental acrobatics to make AMD seem like a good deal, I guess.
7800XT has +4GB Vram. That makes it an instant winner.
First half of the video great, you made your points well but second half showing running the 3070 and the 7800xt head-to-head in games tells us nothing. Without running the 4060 against the 7800XT how can we really compare fps. Am I supposed to imagine that it’s like the 4060 so therefore the fps is the same! Come-on. But BTW I would buy the 7800XT if I only had $500, the 4060 is bad value for sure. It’s just that making a comparison video and leaving out the best punchline made me feel let down.
Even 6700 nom xt started to outperformed 3070 in most games cause of vram limitation
3070 for me is just a 6600 xt with 256 bits bus
7800xt gonna be around just like the 1080 ti was and still is
I am not sure your “analysis” accounts for inflation. $500 three years ago is $600 today.
Is nobody gonna point out that 500$ 2020 is 590$ in 2023 due to inflation so this whole comparison is off by almost 100 which would bump the card up to more like a 4070
I'd question the methodology of 2020 vs. 2023, as it includes an unprecedented interruption in the product cycle due to Covid and its aftermath, coupled with first the mining craze and then the AI insanity.
That all sounds good until you look it up and find out that 500$ was the 3070 MSRP.
AI isn't driving consumer class GPU sales outside of a few amateurs. No one is buying a 4090 for professional AI building or application.
AI isn't affecting consumer cards aside of maybe high end cards to any large degree. I'd say it's a fair comparison, even though you couldn't actually get a 3070 for $500 in 2020 it was the MSRP.
Iv been really enjoying the most hated 40 series GPU this generation
The 4080?
@@ErockOnTech See how you even knew what GPU I was referring too. While soo many hate on this GPU at 1000 bucks, iv been having a great experience
