It's crazy that a 3 year old GPU, that is MUCH better than current generation of consoles, is already considered an outdated GPU by some.
Seeing as they came out around the same time and the gpu alone cost as much or more than the consoles did.
If only it had more vram....
If only AMD...
@@bujfvjg7222 ewwwww, lol never
It’s not crazy at all. this gen of consoles has been steady ~$500 msrp; The 3070 released at around the same time for about $700 msrp. Keep in mind thats $700 for just a card that still needs a whole pc to put it in.
Nvidia should have given the 3070 the 10GB it gave the original 3080 and gave the 3080 12GB from the start. 3060 Ti with 8GB is fine.
No it isn't. I have a 3060ti and I regret it immensely because I've already run into 3 games that would run absolutely fine if not for the garbage 8gb.
@@gagec6390what 3 games? I got a 3070 8gb and im running everything at like 90 frames but i lock my shit at 60
@@JessePatrick-zc8ng This is the way. 60fps has been the standard for a long time. And will continue to be for years to come.
But to elaborate on frames. if you want more frames it helps to have cpu speeds more than 3.7ghz. and having high ram also helps immensely. honestly any gpu can be great with tweaked settings. turning off shadows, removing ambient oclusion...etc.
which pc should i get?
PC 1: 4070 ti - i7 12700f - 16GB ram - $1.6k
or
PC 2 - 3070 - i7 14700kf - 32GB ram - $1.5k
@@tappens definitely the 4070 ti. More vram and faster by a mile. And maybe upgrade the amount of ram to 32gb
my EVGA 3070 XC3 Ultra is still keeping up today at 1440p gaming most games maxed out settings, using precision X1 i have the memory overclocked +1000MHz and the GPU clock +200MHz power target hits up to 125% at times this thing is an absolute BEAST and is hanging in there for dear life, the only reason im upgrading now to a 4080 is purely for more VRAM. im still going to keep my 3070 as an encoder gpu for my 2nd pc in my streaming setup with currently has a GTX1080 in it. even the 1080 is keeping up and plays games decently at 1440p.
I love the polish of your videos - very professional! It certainly shows in what must be many late-night and early-morning hours that you have to be putting into them - and it's greatly appreciated!
Also, it's refreshing to see such a big name content creator take to heart helpful suggestions from sincere viewers/subscribers as you did at 6:40 :) Very well done!
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it! I do my best!
I still remember when you bought that 3070 back in the day and I bought the 2070. Man, that feels like a lifetime ago. Still a great card even to this day!
It’s been a long time man! I remember that too!
why people are talking this card like an old card, the new series is just 40series and thats it
Just picked up 3070 for $250. Sold my 2070 Super for 170 so only $80 to upgrade
Hi, I just discovered your channel and I love it. By the way, is your RTX 4090 still okay? I'm concerned about the burnt cable issue. I've seen that the solution is to make sure it's properly connected.
Man I thought that price was a little high myself haha... then I did a little looking around on my own, and 3070s are still going for near 300 used. It's unfortunate nVidia handicapped it with 8gb, it's still a beast of a card.
Yeah when they contacted me and said $389 after the discount, I thought “That’s way too high.” But apparently not. Lol
I just got a 3070 for $270 used 😁

If I were to retest performance of an old card (not that I think the 3070 is old at all yet) in 2023 I would go for second half of 2022 and 2023 games only for it to make sense to me as older games can be found in many videos and the main point is to have an idea of how it performs in the "latest titles". For example: Hogwards Legacy, COD Modern Warfare II, The Last of Us Part 1, Starfield, A Plague Tale Innocence, Alan Wake 2, Dead Island 2, Rachet & Clank, UNCHARTED Legacy of Thieves Collection. For Cyberpunk Update 2.0 mainly Dogtown from the new DLC and maybe The next gen version of The Witcher 3.
still loving mine on 1440p. do not feel like I need an upgrade for a long time
Hey, Trusteft here, I moved my subscription to this new account of mine to make it easier for me to follow people I am subscribed to.
The RTX 3070 definitely is worth having in 2023, though I don't know how well it performs in Starfield and Alan Wake II.
I have to say, that's a beautiful card too.
Good points about the AMD side.
Thanks for the video.
MSI RTX 3070 8Gb Gaming Z trio 2022 edition , its serve me perfect on 1440p in 2023.
Most games i got 60fps+ and FPS games with some settings tweaking i can get 144fps with no problem 👌
mine got better when I undervolted it to 850, doubled the vram clock, bumped the core clock a little. also lower temps and watts. such a good card!
Thank you for this!
Loving mine.. I'm not playing 4K anytime soon and been awesome on both 1080p/165hz & 1440p/165hz displays I own.
3070RTX 8GB crushes most games in 1080p, started to see a little performance loss in 1440p but not much.. I'm also running a Ryzen 5 5600x w/ 32GB DDR4-3000.
I got the 3070RTX over a year ago and I am still figuring out what games I should go with No upscaling vs DLSS,Quality. Dying Light 2 is one of those games. I've tried with RayTracing and it looks nice but not worth the performance loss, same for Doom Eternal. Tried both games in 1080p & 1440p.. and the same as mentioned above come 1080p vs 1440p.
Sick card though and hopefully gives me a few years or more.. I've got a 2060 Super 8GB and love playing the same games on that system to see the difference.
Don't know I came here, but no doubt, it was thankful. You've got a new subscription from Brazil. Good job!
Note: r u Stephen Curry's brother? Hahaha
There is resize bar, if you enable this the right way your 3070 wil get allot more fps in several games. use profile inspector to enable it after setting bios and so.
I bought my 3070 a couple of months after it released and it has done me really well... until yesterday. Alan Wake 2 is the first game I've played to make the card show some age.
Alan Wake 2 looks almost like the RE 2-3-4 remake and runs like trash, its just bad optimization not gpu fault.
Also get a higher than they reccomend power supply always people tell you not but thats nonsense better overkill than just enough also more fps.
@@Yuniliel Nah, I ain't having that. The graphics in Alan Wake 2 are nothing but incredible. Lighting, reflections, textures and character models are WAY beyond anything in the RE 2-3-4 remakes.
@@vLarsn it is poor optimization.
It’ll run better after a few updates
@@vLarsn finally someone who understands stuff. I've seen many now blatantly saying it looks like Re2/Re3, it baffled me LOL!
could you please do a video where you show us whether playing 1080p native or 1440p dlss quality delivers the sharper and crisper image for roughly the same framerate?
great video mate luv ya
I use a Asus TUF vg258qm TN 280hz panel, Its great for 3070 screen is prob even overkill but elbm ( eliminate motion blur ) really works wel in shooters.
Im really Happy with this screen. After playing on the Benq i wanted to stay TN panel for wathever reason.
My broter has alienware 240hz ips panel those are also really nice.
Upgraded to AMD RX7800xt Nitro + deff worth it still on the same screen. i wil get a secondary 4k 144hz panel or a 2560x1080 120hz panel this resolution isnt in all games so you do have to add it manually plenty of times.
I can't believe 3070s are still selling for that much. Really interesting to see a new card from that seemingly no name brand. Makes me wonder if it's a refurbished mining card with a new cooler.
That's pretty pessimistic lol. Odds are against it though, people doing that are mostly doing it with AMD cards. What 51RISC seems to do is repurpose unused notebook chips and things like that. This seems to be a legit 104 die in this case, though you can't really be sure without cracking the shell, scammers are getting pretty good at putting tampered vbioses on those used mining cards and other ewaste cards.
Good review and comparison. Good mix of games.
As usual Great, to the point content .
Thank you 🙏
My 3070 has held up to any games I've thrown at it so far. I only play at 1080p 120hz but I get a solid 60fps or more on everything I play.
Same I literally upgraded from a 3gb 1060 to a 1070 and the difference is fantastic. Lords of the fallen running at ultra 🤷🏻♂️ its fkn nice baby
My 3070ti has handled everything from sons of the forest, red dead 2, farcry 6 etc, at 4k 60fps no issues.
@@JessePatrick-zc8ng nobody talked about a 1070 bro
8 is really all that’s being used by most games. I have a prebuilt msi that my computer geek buddy tweeked with a 3070 trio and it plays anything we’ve thrown at it on ultra. Yes it’s getting close to maxing at 7.3 but it still kicking hard. Things can’t just be ran “out the box” and expect to hold up against these new games. That being said things will need dialed down the next few years.
This^ i even play at 4k 60fps on my 3070ti, and have only run into a vram warning 1 time
My 3070ti is still going strong, i can hit over 60fps at 4k in pretty much every game i play still. And I've only ever gotten a vram warning one time. If the 3070/ti had the 12gb of vram that the 4070 does, it would be in a much better position as a 4k 60 fps card. I see no reason to upgrade to the 40 series at this point
I've just upgraded to RTX 3070 FE card. after 6 years and have officially retired my old Faithfull...my GTX 1080 Evga ..and the RTX 3070 was a good choice for me ..
That’s a big upgrade for you!
Thats exactly what I have just done. Its being shipped now.
@MrSleep20013 You will not be disappointed mate, I know I wasn't. 😊
RX 6800 kills 3070 and in the used market, it is dirt cheap with double the VRAM. 6800 is somewhere between 3070 ti and 3080 and even matches 3080 in some scenarios. A used 3080 ti is the only NVIDIA 3000 card I'd go for right now.
What about 3090
@@RenyxGhoul great if you can get it for low prices like $400.
rx 6800 cant ray trace only advantage it has is in rtx off or at 1440p
@ImTriumph RT is completely pointless in this segment as 3070 is shit at it, too. 3070 is constantly slower in newer titles due to VRAM. Name a recent title with meaningful RT that 3070 can run at playable framerates. That's also a very wrong thing to say. 6800 CAN do RT. It's the same as something like a 3060 ti or so in RT and can output almost playable results in some games. It's just not that good. The way 3070 is not really good, as well. Particularly when it runs out of VRAM.
I still have the rtx 3070 gaming oc, I was reading comments and I love your videos I'm not that person that I wanna play AAA games with ultra settings I'm still thinking to pickup a 1440p 240hz for my 3070, is not like I play all games on ultra settings I play more with mixed settings, so is the 3070 good for a 1440p monitor in 2023?
itd be good for 1440p 144hz, idk about 240hz it depends on the game.
Erock random will you have a look at ark survival ascended came out yesterday my 3080 cant even get 35fps with a 3080 on 1440p
Oh wow really? I’ll have to look into this. Thats so interesting.
@@ErockOnTech The dev studio did really bad with the release of that game, it was pushed back every couple of hours because it wasn't ready for release. It's probably bad optimization issues.
The thing i dont get is that the rtx 3060 got 12 gb and the ti got 8 gb then why not the same for the 3070???
Its still good, but that vram is gonna hold it back in the next couple years. It's already showing on some of its limitations on VRAM intensive games out right now.
2:37 what case is that? Y40?
Its a good card, i jabe it undervolted and it draws max 170w at full load and runs cool and quiet.
In europe this card has never been under 500€, or it was very cheap/rare offers and now there is almost no 3070 left, and it's still over 500€, as a belgian user I believe this card is the biggest wasted potential from Nvidia
I’m on a 60hz panel so I lock the fps at 60fps and don’t max out my system. You should mention panel refresh rate and how that impacts what you might even need.
Well said. Good and fair points for sure.
Generally, people who are looking above nVidia xx50 class or AMD x500 class are quite aware of the relation of Hz to FPS. Locking at 60fps really doesn't matter unless you're trying to play say... Doom uncapped with a 4080 or something on a 60Hz panel. Then I could see not wanting the excess frames heating up the environment.
As it is, a 3080 barely gets 70 fps at 4k on RDR2. Ask me how I know! Anyone still rocking a 60Hz panel should be rocking at least a 4k resolution, and if you aren't, well, I'd say you should be looking at monitor reviews as well as GPU reviews, and how that might impact what you need.
😉
But why tho? You are missing out on your performance. Even if you dont see it you will feel the difference
@@x8jason8xThe 3070/6700xt can do most games at 4k60 with appropriate settings
@@NamTran-xc2ip Yeah, the resolution frequently isn't the issue, it's the settings. For the sake of these type of discussions, you can safely assume everyone is looking for ultra.
Man if did this i wish my 3070 temps were that low, i bought a lanch model so no lhr and the temps are way higher in some games its hiting 79-80C
i just bought a used one for 250$ and its best value card on market if youre going used
Should I buy it? I have Ryzen 5 5600?
I copped one on fb marketplace last year for $300 cad. I haven't seen any at this price since then.
Now try it in cyberpunk with DLSS on @ 4K 😘. 3070 is a great used card to pick up.
My very old Radeon 5870 has died so I've just bought the 3070. I'm hoping to see some significant improvements
3070 still awesome in 2023? Yes, for 1080p.
For 1440p, I'd say it's firmly in the 'okay' tier. There are some games that really tax it, especially with raytracing.
Sadly, it's mostly a vram issue, and mainly in regards to raytracing. The 3070 and 3080 were both short on Vram, but at least the 3080 had GDDR6X. The 3060ti being marketed as a 1080p card mainly with its 8gb, it really made no sense to market the 3070 as a 1440p card with basically the same specs (about 10% more cores, and 5-10% more fps).
If you were looking for a replacement card for 1080p gaming, a used 3070 for $350 or less is probably the best card to get right now. It beats the 4060ti for less money.
My daughter has the Palit GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming Pro and it’s still a great card. Plays 1440p no worries. Won’t be upgrading her for another 2-3 years.
It will be a perfect time to upgrade for her around late 2024 to mid-2025, you've got a good head on your shoulders! I was going to get a 4090 at a hundred above MSRP earlier this year and now I was finally ready and it's over $2200 everywhere and out of stock. So depressing.
Got the 3070 at launch close to MSRP at my region , i play at 1080p 144hz and still after 3 years its running solid. Not worth purchase now but worth to keep hold if already own till next generation 50 series cards.
I'm gonna upgrade this Wed, should I get a 4060 ti with a i7 6700k ,24gb ram, ? 1440p LG monitor with 2 1080p for surround ??? or maby rtx 4060 is the limit idek im sad about it .

One thing about the RTX 3070 i dont like that most seem to not notice is that it uses some type of really bad compression, on a true 10bit monitor you will notice the colors it produces are much worse compared to previous generation Nvidia cards. It was so noticeable i installed my RTX 2080 again and sold the 3070.
Interesting. All of my testing for this GPU was not done on a 10 bit HDR monitor. Thats why I didn’t notice it.
@@ErockOnTech Usually 10bit HDR monitors are 8bit+2bit FRC the FRC introduces dithering with reduces sharpness and clarity of the image so a person would need to have a true 10bit SDR non FRC monitor to really see how big of a difference it is. Shame. The 8gb Vram is really holding back the 3070 from being a good 1440p card in 2023. I mean just look at the results from 2023 games like RE4R, The Last of Us, and Hogwarts Legacy. While the average fps is fine, the frametime results are awful. I know you could just lower the resolution, but I would argue that most people that bought the card was probably wanting to play at higher than 1080p resolution anyway considering the price the GPU was (is) at. Meanwhile the much weaker 1080p card like the 3060 has more Vram than the 3060 Ti/3070/3070 Ti and the only reason why is because Nvidia was afraid of the backlash. They don't care about our gaming experience. They just care about us buying their cards.

My Canadian loonies are quite useless this year. But at a $700 or so price point many 4060-70 series card would be a better option.

@@ShadowFox_2090 Yeah I know it does. I’ve made a full video about 8 GB vram not being enough. You see it in some of these benchmarks even. Halo Infinite 1440p ultra is almost 8gb alone.

Love the video... but i guess only one of these games were actually from 2023... wheres dead space? Baldyurs gate 3? Alan Wake 2? Starfield? Diablo IV? Avatar? Star wars Jedi survivor?
Good content, great stuff... but saddly wrong choice of games. Please do it again with actually 2023 games... the only 2023 game in there was Hogwarts Legacy
2nd!!
