Hi Diersak! I like to use threaded inserts on all of my custom guitars for a few reasons: First, you can take the neck off any number of without the fear of stripping out the screw holes in the neck. This Ibanez actually had one stripped out neck screw hole. Instead of plugging and re-drilling it, I just converted it to use threaded inserts. Second, I feel that you can torque the screws down a bit more which helps with the neck to body connection. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching!
It sure can! You can keep the plate and just get the threaded insert screw. McMaster Carr sells the traditional oval head variation that most guitars use with the neck plate!
Wait. So you got a drill press but used a drill driver for the initial drilling? I mean, it worked, but still. Edit: i read another comment and found why. But a slight insurance of two flat pieces making a corner will also help you get straighter holes.
Sure thing! I used 10-24 bolts for this build. McMaster Carr sells both the Allen flat head and oval head screws which work great for necks. I usually get them in either 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" lengths depending on the builds. Links below. Hope that helps! 10-24 Threaded Insert Kit: amzn.to/3ommTCv 10-24 Allen Screws (Black Oxide): bit.ly/40czhCj 10-24 Allen Screws (Stainless Steel): bit.ly/3mx5LK5
Hi Jeremy! This Ibanez had a stripped out neck mounting screw hole, so I decided to convert it to use threaded inserts. Their benefit is just that, you don't have to worry about them stripping out when removing/installing the neck for tech work. It also allows you to torque down the bolts a bit more creating a tighter fit. Thanks for watching! 😊
@@baborikinm I had to shim the neck on this guitar and one of the neck mounting holes was stripped out (from the factory). So instead of plugging and re-drilling, I opted for threaded inserts.
This should be factory default for a long time now. fight me
Totally agree!!
Big fan of threaded inserts. Do that on all my customs
Same here! Love them. 👌🏻
What's the advantage to using the threaded inserts over regular ol screws?

@@AugmentGuitars could this be done with a strat style guitar? I would assume you’d have to get rid of the plate and add a grommet to the body?

@@AugmentGuitars really?! Just bought cabinet hinges from them!
Yep! I buy all of my fasteners from them. They have anything you will ever need! 😂
Отличная работа
Beautiful work, man.
Thanks James! 🤘

Yep I wanted to show that it can be done without a drill press. Good tip on the guide 👌🏻. I usually use my drill press for this job lol!
Could you add the details of what inserts and screws you used? I appreciate it. 😊

What’s the point? We went from a screw in the neck to a threaded insert literally a slightly larger screw

Bro what is that tool you used to hold and turn the insert?
I used my drill press and an E-Z LOK 500-2 insert installer! www.ezlok.com/drive-tool-500-2
Not an upgrade, a modification
Am I the only one horrified that he's using hand tools, no jig, to install precision inserts?
It can be done without them! I usually use my drill press though. Just wanted to show it’s possible with minimal tools. Thanks for watching. 😊
Why don't Fox these poor neck pocket?
But why? It's not built for regular screwing.
What do you mean by "regular screwing"? The thread in a lot smoother than regular wood screws.
@AugmentGuitars it's supposed to be done once at factory. And the screws should stay untouched for years. It's good enough the way it is.

No difference in tone = waste of time
Drill press job…
I usually do it on my drill press but I wanted to show it can be done with a hand drill as well. Thanks for watching!
