Project 300zx gets important fix for it's KA24de swap!

- I have been thoroughly enjoying driving this project 300zx with a ka24de swap, but with every project car, gauges make the drive better! I diagnose and repair this project car to have most of the gauges working! Couldn't pass up Go Skate Day either!

So refreshing to see someone build something so unique on an ACTUALLY realistic budget. All the small victories, like getting the gauges to work, resonate so hard. Especially with such a chill, easy-going demeanor.
These daily videos just feel like you’re hanging with a buddy in the garage, which I’m realizing I don’t do enough of anymore haha.
Even all his buddies working on their cars is relatable. Other vids, you’ll have a guy working on his car and his “buddies” all of a sudden roll up in fully built Huracans, R8s, and 911s.
I love seeing Mike making every moment of his life a video. He’s the best content creator ever.

I get a nostalgic vibe from vids like this Mike. Reminds me of my mid to late teens at the end of the nineties. Just hanging, skating and not being bombarded with all the shit we put up with these days. Love it man.
Mike, if you see my comment. Try taking the tach signal from the negative wire directly from the coil. I do it like that when converting non tach clusters to tach ones, it works even when the engine has been swapped and doesn't matter if its carbed or efi. Unless you have more than 1 coil, if should work.

18:44 you would need to multiply the frequency of the tach signal (from your CAS? maybe, im not familiar with how KAs work) by 1.5x to get the frequency the cluster expects. could probably do something like this with an arduino or something similar

It's so satisfying to see the car coming along got to love the old tuner cars. I got into Honda's Nissans and Acuras because of my late friend who'd passed it's all he owned was Honda first ride was in his 91 Honda Civic hatch and I was hooked. I went from a guy who just drove muscle cars to actually liking the tuners and other stuff out there crazy how you meet a new friend and opened your eyes to a New Life thanks Dallas rip brother. You guys keep doing what your doing reminds me of the good times I'm only 27 still more to come ❤

typical on-off oil pressure switches have normally closed contacts, that's why it shows 120psi before the startup and 0 when running. I think originally there was a resistive pressure transucer to show actual oil pressure

Hey Mike, you can use a Dakota Digital SGI-8 E tach adapter to make the tach read correctly. The Z32 from factory would have a 6 pulse tach signal from the ecu whereas the KA would send a 4 pulse signal. Your tach is expecting 6 pulses for every 2 engine revolutions but is only receiving 4, so will always read lower than the engine is actually turning. The part is universal and just needs to be wired inline with your tach output wire in addition to connecting a power and ground, it can be programmed for pretty much any engine/tach combination. I did this when swapping a 1UZ into a MK2 Supra and it works flawlessly 👌

If your tachometer works the same as my Biltema tachometer, you could change how much each puls from the engine affects the needle. On mine, I turn a screw to decide if it runs on 4, 6 or 8 cylinders. All that screw does is ad resistance to the thing that moves the needle. To make the tachometer in the Z match your 4 cylinder KA, you need to lower the resistance or somehow increse the amperage going to the tachometer.

to get the tach to work correctly you need to change the resistors on the back of the tach gauge you need to find the values of the 240sx ka24de gauge and solder them to the 300zx gauge
i had to do this to my Toyota supra mk3 when i swapped to a 2jz

Clear tails fit amazing on a white car... BUT RED IS ALWAYS FASTER!!! XD Shame the tach didn't worked 100% but at least there's more things working out, both temp gauge and oil signal are really important! Btw I miss riding bmx and all the friends I made at the time, which mostly were skateboarders, great people, good times! Not sure on z32 but on s13 theres a potentiometer you can turn to adjust the rpm to match for rb25/26 swaps on the back of the tachometer.
I like the red tails more. It just looks cleaner.

For the tach issue, I'm not sure if this would work, but the sunpro tachs they used to sell at advance auto parts had a switch on the back of them to go between 4-6-8 cylinders, my theory is to remove the guts of the tach and use the switch from it and wiring and wire it in between ka harness connector and 300zx connector.
Check ohms on aftermarket tach(then put a resistor in line with your jumper) between 4cyl.and 6cyl
I don't always like clears more but I think clears go better on that white civic. But the reds do match the honda badge, so either one looks good

possible resistor on the rear of the cluster for the pull up on tach. either replace with the 240sx clusters resistor or research the ohm resistor of a ka and soder

That oil gauge is not going to be super accurate. And knowing these older cars have notorious problems with them, maybe just buy a oil gauge. Always hear about them gauges reading sometimes and reading 0 others.
Also I know with the twin turbo 3000gt we use 20w 50. I'm almost positive a lot of the 300 guys are using 10w 50 for there clearances and pressure as well. (Lmao I'm so exhausted, it's not even the vg)

Check and see if the z32 tach has an adjustable pot on the back like the S14. I did that to get my RB tach to read the right RPM.
