Even though the act that followed it was completely reprehensible, the "Feel the Powah" quote was hilarious.
Was like a scene out of Rush Hour lol, Chris must've been on a different planet if he changed that much from drinking.
Nice to know that Big E was inspired by Chris Adams.
@@amirpourghoureiyan1637Jekyll and Hyde for sure. Alcohol is poison
Sounded like he was on angel dust imo.
@@monabear7287 he was hooked on ghb, that shit is like liquid ecstasy
The eyes glowing red, literally, was a nice touch but it did make it feel like he was gonna hit someone with the Omega Beams, not a superkick.
thought it made him look like Cyclops from X-men lol
Yeah that was ridiculous
Darkseid of the Ring
Cheesy and just way over the top.
Darkside is……..
Chris Addams is so out of the loop = Everyone is thinking that Shawn Michaels invented The Super Kick.
I hate what has been done to the super kick.
We've all seen MMA at this point. How many fights end with a single good kick to the head?
Bas Rutten tells a story about working the doors and accidentally misjudging a kick. He intended to clip them with his foot but instead hit them flush. He freaked out because he thought he'd killed the guy.
A kick to the head can be ruinous. Even for a big muscular fighting man.
People shouldn't be popping up like they got arm dragged.
@@DrJReefer See Bret Hart, courtesy of Goldberg.
@@DrJReefer i agree 100%. And the Bucks, with their obvious HBK worship/half-assed ripoff, are the absolute worst offenders ever and it's really sad that they have bastardized and buried their idol's fucking finisher
Dude literally nobody thinks HBK actually invented the shit
Haku's was better than Shawn's too.
To say Neil Adams, Chris' brother, was an internationally ranked judo star is slightly underselling it. He was a two-time Olympic silver medallist and a World Champion. He was actually a big celebrity in the UK as a result in the 80s and early 90s
Hes also deluded if he thinks that guy didnt need to kill chris. He would have severely hurt that guy
About five European gold medals too, I can remember him being on celebrity gladiators and winning it on the eliminator.
If you ain’t first, you’re last.
@@jamespaul6315 Absolutely. Chris would have had an upper hand knowing Judo
That thing in the episode where he essentially pulled that guy's scalp off was genuinely sickening.
Yeah I went looking for that match after that part 😮.
Guy was a nutcase.
I used to watch GWF on ESPN when I was a kid. Rod Price was a good worker imo.
I think he got what he deserved tbh
@@jamespaul6315 there does seem to be a touch of "Some men just need killing" about it alright. Dunno if that him or me story is true when he was shot, but it seems like something like that happening was only a matter of time.
@@jodybriggs1075 Aye someone was going to take him out at some point with the temper or attitude he had.
Guy was lucky he had a gun on him.
Did anyone else see the part where it dawns on Kevin Von Erich that Chris Adams was a piece of shit and he's shattered
I just can't believe he didn't know that already. But yeah the disgust and disappointment was evident on his expression.
U can see it clear In his face and eyes. Some times saying it all together out loud makes it clearer.
@@ziahamm1603 He may not have known that Chris was beating his wife. I think most of us have known the friend that is generally a good guy until they start drinking. And they may not even drink very often, but once they do they turn into a completely different person.
That can come off as a terrible personality flaw. But then when you find out that they beat their wife/gf and you didn't know about it, it just takes things to a completely different level and you can't help but be disgusted by it.
@YakuzaRich possibly. It's just being around each other so much I'm surprised that Kerry did not even hear rumours potentially at least. He seemed genuinely taken aback and disgusted when he was told. But yeah I mean certainly possible that aside from knowing that Chris Adams got a bit crazy when drinking, he didn't realise what a violent and nasty piece of work he was capable of being. But there must have been some signs or indicators is my point.
Then again the poor guy had to endure so much pain and heartache within his own family that he may have not known full extent of what was going on in the life of guys like Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez in particular.
And he TRIED to backtrack.
Surprised Chris Adams demise didn't happen around the same time as Gino's because they shared the party lifestyle as tag team partners
It sounded like Adams was more of a boozehound than cokehead. Alcohol will eventually fuck you up but Coke expedites that spiral a lot quicker. And it sounded like Gino was heavily into it.
How is Jeanie still alive and well... Married Stone Cold and Billy Jack and dated Chris Adams. The stories she must have
Chris Adams was a perfect example of someone getting in their own way. The guy was such a great talent that should've gone further in the business if not for his personal demons.
Yep. Definitely his own worst enemy.
When Jim says he just and Midnight just wanted to collect his $1k a week in 1986 from World Class, that's almost $2800 per week today.
1985
Which is still not that much for a big wrestling star.
@@gregamania1327.....and yet is over 100 grand a year, like life-changing money for most people
@@jonathonholifield3166 Average salary in the US is $65,000. $100k is not life changing money these days.
@@gregamania1327if 100 grand wouldnt change your life then congratulations, youre doing better than most
I am glad that I am not the only one that thought Boo-Ray looked like The Miz's dad. LOL
LMAO, That looks like Larry Zbyszko, not Chris Adams. 😆😆😆😆😆
Chris Adams should have been one of the biggest stars in the industry but his behavior reduced his career and legacy to being just Steve Austin’s trainer and a PSA for why alcohol and drugs can get you killed.
I'm just glad Steve Austin was able to get a handle on his own issues and didn't go the same way as Chris Adams.
it really is a shame, watching the ep, Chris Adams would have been talked about for decades
I don’t think he should be remembered after what he caused to his gf in 2001
14:43 brian missed the perfect woooooo-ings spot right there😂
I still watch 1985 Mid Atlantic almost every night before bed! WCCW is still awesome to watch as well!
I took a picture with him when I was a kid at a local wrestling show. It only cost five dollars probably two years before he died.
That’s it 😢Was it a long line?
There is a BBC documentary on CZcams probably called 'The Golden Age of British Wrestling'' from about 10 years ago, Adrian Street is in it among others. It would be interesting if Jim Cornette watched and reviewed that, as well as Louis Theroux's wrestling doc from 1999 where he goes to the WCW power plant.
Did they put the part of Adrian talking about beating the hell out of Jimmy Saville back in? I knew BBC ordered that part cut cause Saville was seen as respectable member of British society
Knowing what we know now, Adrian performed a public service back then. Maybe he knew Saville was a piece of shit.
Adrian was something else.Pure evil in the ring, but a pure chap outside.Even in the early’80’s when he was a super heel.
@@bigroy38 especially beating the living hell out of Jimmy Saville made him a heel to fans who didn't know but he was pure chap for that lol
Louis making an offhand comment to Sarge about there being theatrics in the industry, to be made to run until he puked at the powerplant is gold 🤣
The Apter magazines always listed Brian Adias as Adidas! 😂
As a kid I remember Chris Adams in WCW and saw some old tapes with him later on. Top 3 Superkicks ever. Sucks his personal life was insane.
Think he was the person to first use it as a finisher. Much better than the shit superkicks we get from the Cuccamonga raisins and the Usos these days. When Chris Adams hit it, it sounded and looked devastating.
The first time I saw Adams, and he was a baby face, I thought he'd be a perfect match for Flair. Post Dusty, Pre Sting, mid 80s. He was really good. Him and Geno were a great heal tag team. He trained Steve Austin for crying out loud.
This show overlooked Adams's time in the UWF with his feud against Terry Taylor.
45 minutes to tell his story, if they had time maybe
I like Dark Side of the Ring... I like learning NEW Things
Keep doing those episodes 🎉
I just watched this last night. I'm glad they hadn't forgotten about these lol
The "One Man Gang" has to be one of the Greatest Wrestling Names ever😁... On a sadder note, there were a lot of untimely deaths in WCCW, not just the Von Erich's but also Geno Hernandez. 😢
No kidding
Boo Ray lives just down the road from me here in Mansfield, Texas, believe he’s in his 70s now
Booray's house - you can check in, but you can't check out.
That Dusty Rhodes muffler line at the end got me 😂
As a '90s kid, I read about Chris Adams' storyline where he got blinded in one eye and I HAD to track a tape down to see it. The magazine (Wrestling All-Stars) made such a big deal of it.
I love how Jim's voice drops an octave when he says, "it's a common name down south".
I was a Global fan and remember when he pulled Rod Price’s weave off, no idea it was intentional. They even tried to turn it into an angle, they guy he wrestled the next week cut a promo about taking his weave out before wrestling him because he didnt want the same thing to happen to him..
I Remember Ron Price from those Justin Credible ECW days when he was part of his group
Brian’s impression of Kevin Von Erich is brilliant 😂😂😂😂
I literally LOLd at Jim's "Booyah" line!
The thing I remember most about Chris, is having one of the Apter mags with a story telling how wonderful a man and husband he was (as if he was a wrestling saint).
They stuck with the kayfabe blinding story, even after Gino died in PWI
Adams vs Taylor feud started in Watts UWF. Terry Taylor turning heel on Adams was one of the only good parts of the dying days of Watts.
Tully and Gino had history back in Texas. Tully's dad ran a promotion.
The question has also been tossed around at times online as to whether or not Gino would have fit as a Horseman.
Wrestling history is so interesting really enjoy learning about it
Gino would've been a perfect fit for The Horsemen.
I think it would have worked. He definitely had the persona and swagger to be one. On the occasions that Flair turned face, Gino would have been a great antagonist too.
Tully's dad Joe ran the San Antonio/South Texas territory until '85. There were rampant rumors that Gino's father was Paul Boesch, the promoter in Houston, but everybody involved is gone now.
Gino would’ve been a great horsemen, especially when Tully couldn’t have come back. He would’ve slid right in with Arn/Flair and nobody would’ve second thought it
Wccw used to air on one of the UHF channels here in the NYC area
Same up here in Maine
Good old UHF
Having lived in Dallas at this time I can say one thing for certain,we never saw the midnight take on the fantastics.
16:02 About Chris Adams' attack on an Israeli citizen,
The Israeli archives of that time say that Chris attacked a receptionist,
At the hotel where he stayed,
The employee is a 26-year-old Israeli Christian, and has been classified as seriously injured in the head.
Chris gave the receptionist a list of phone numbers in the United States,
The last phone number came in a delay for Chris.
He got angry and went down to beat the receptionist,
He pushed the worker and hit him in the head.
The employee was operated on in the hospital,
He was injured in the retina and the tear bag.
This event was the day before their last show in Israel.
And thanks again to Jim and Brian or as Jim calls him "Mr co-host to you" :)
"Feel the powwer" It is messed up, but I love hearing Kevin tell that story.
In 87 Sting turned face to help Chris in 87 UWF. Stings first promo was in Thibodaux LA tv taping.
Cornette should write a book on the History of Wrestling
The true tragedy is how he treated other people, including *killing someone*, not the decline of his career that could've been greater. Feel bad for the people negatively effected and for his family/friends losing him than feel bad about him losing his career.
Dark side has to do an episode on Jim cornette
man, i could listen to jim tell stories all day long. my listen of choice when taking long drives or when flying.
I haven't watched wrestling in about twenty years. Somehow through algorithms in the last year, ive grown to love this podcast. I could listen to Jim and Brian talk about anything. It has also peaked my interest enough to be aware of whats happening in wrestling but not enough to start watching it. Im tempted though.
Nowadays is the best that the product has been in that timeframe 😅
BOO RAY! BOO RAY! BOO RAY!
Deep and disturbing at times. Huge fan during the World Class years. Must see episode.
I gotta watch more of your content Mr Cornette - this is pretty damn funny
It was add watching this doc a few days ago....... Beat for beat, I could have sworn I'd seen it before....... Did someone else do a Chris Adams docu not so long ago?
We need episodes for Rick Rude Mitsuharu Misawa Mike Awesome Hana Kimura Daffney Mr Perfect British Bulldog Brian Christopher Perro Aguayo Jr Sean O Haire Louie Spicolli Bobby Duncum Jr and John Kronus
DSOTR was going to do an episode on Mike Awesome, but his ex-wife put a stop to it.
@@ThatDoesntWorkForMeBrothersuch a bummer 😢here’s hoping the show gets another season and they get her to come back
Bourré (Booray), means drunk in French means “💩Faced Drunk” or “a bag Crammed with clothes” or so I have been told, however Bourrè is a trick tacking card game that can get very expensive if you Bou/Boo ie do not take a trick, or if you miss play your cards and are caught. If either of these rules are broken you have to match the pot and I have seen people Bou/Boo multiple times in one hand. The game can be played with 2-8 players and as legend has it or so I has been told to me was invented by card playing gamblers who wanted a card game that would not give “card mechanics” (bottom dealers etc). I learned to play the game shooting Skeet as it is the official unofficial game of the NSSA, it also very popular in Louisiana, and from friends I have in the US Merchant Marines there is a 24/7 game of it played on most Cargo ships.
Man was a psychopath. But just imagine being a wrestler you achieve moderate success but then you train Steve Williams who marries your ex and becomes stone cold Steve Austin damn. It probably ate at him everyday. If he was able to get over that he could have ended up being a great trainer And discovered more wrestling stars
I mean look at the task master and his wife . And the story line of losing him to Chris. Similar. But task master didn't go out and lose his mind over it. He just moved on
@@tomcruiiseship9461the task master slaughtered the Benoit family on the 10 year anniversary of his divorce to Nancy
@@tomcruiiseship9461Not really the same. The story was his idea. He basically gave Nacy to Chris 😂.
If he had his head screwed on properly, he may have still been alive and now working for either AEW, TNA or WWE as a trainer/road agent/producer. Clearly had a good mind for the business. Alas its another cautionary tale about destructive alcohol abuse can be.
@@ThePunk01Kevin also says his marriage was already fucked before that.
Drugs and alcohol change people. I've seen it first hand and it's sad all around. Sometimes you have NO choice but to defend yourself and it can end badly. When someone is beyond drunk, there's no reasoning with them.
"SELF DEFENSE, MURDERING and HEAD SHITTING" 😅😅
So, Chris & Gino were literally the Shawn Michaels & Razor Ramon, Diesel (during 2 Dudes with Attitudes phase), or HHH (in their first DX run), of their day & era in WCCW. That is kinda how I’ve always seen them.
There is a chris adams documentary out there . Really gos into a little more detail on the death of chris adams . I believe there's pics from the scene of death . Explains it a bit more
quote from the great Brian last “yes” lol
Don’t forget the cue “…. Are you there?” Mfer does this any time Jim is entertaining. Get him off the podcast
Given Jim's affinity for the backwoods of Louisiana from his days in Mid-South, I'm surprised he didn't remark about "BooRay" being a Cajun card game (that, ironically, can get contentious).
25:00 i did a spit take at work 😂 u guys are awesome
This season of Dark Side has been awsome
They never cover much of anyone's midsouth/uwf career.. that's the best part
Chris Adams wrestled in Portland just before Dallas.
Correct and that’s where he got his head shaved first by Buddy Rose, not in Mexico as Jim stated.
Chris Adams was certainly no Gentleman
Freebirds and Jimmy Garvin were heels while express were in wccw if memory serves me right. So was the Grappler and Killer Brooks. Brian Adias was a face that i rooted for then
Grappler was later.
I actually met James Beard a few years ago. He came to my college to speak on a panel. Such a nice guy. He loved i was a wrestling fan lol
He will be at the Hall of Fame weekend in Waterloo in July. He ks a great person to speak with.
PNW before Texas. The head shave occurred in PNW in a program with Rip Oliver.
That's what I thought too but I thought it was part of the string of Buddy Rose hair challenges that he had going on. Rip Oliver was kinda of the sidekick so it may have been him instead of Rose.
Oliver and Rose had split the sheets at that point. Oliver's Clan was the faction and Adams called them Oliver's Clowns.
@@douglasfay I dug in some Portland Wrestling footage. I concur that it was Rip Oliver. However, Adams left in April of '83 and the Oliver and Rose split was 2 months later. Rose came back after a feud with Curt Hennig with Hennig injuring Rose. Rose wanted to lead again as the "Army" and Oliver, Assassin, and Dynamite Kid turned on him. Rose joined forces with Hennig and Billy Jack. Good stuff @douglasfay.
Rose and Oliver were parallel factions at the time and yes. Rose wanted to lead again but Oliver resisted...what I called " Split the sheets"...with a tip of my hat to Dutch Savage.
@@douglasfay 👍
Had no idea he was Neil Adams brother! For anybody who doesn’t know, his brother is a legendary judoka who was known as one of the best most technical grapplers ever. He has a kinda tragic story as well, winning two Olympic silver medals when everybody thought he would definitely win gold both times
Hardly a tragedy winning two silvers at the Olympics lol quite the achievement if you ask me.
Upsets happen. It's why elimination tournaments are always exciting.
I thought jim and brian were gonna make fun of the glowing eyes and how hokey it was, especially brian, but nope, no mention
Some of the greatest in the business have the most troubled history. Especially when you’re looking at certain eras. The 80s up to early 90s so many of those talents are no longer with us. If I’m not mistaken just from WWF/WWE nearly the entire card from WMVII have passed away. But the fast life of WCCW probably claimed more lives than most.
When is Cornette going to review The Iron Claw??????????
I've wondered about the self defense claim too. BooRay's mom lived there and she said she never heard a shot. It was a .357 magnum, you can hear that a mile away. If BooRay was drunk too, he may not have realized he had done it, and had to think fast
Chris was a violent psychopath who had done this kind of thing before. He did what he had to do and chris got what he deserved.
His aunt took a lot of pills. I don't think boo ray was lying he had no reason to unless Chris asked him to do it
Self defense needed against a drunk judo badass who hospitalized a flight attendant and beat his girl to the point of needing reconstructive surgery
I watched Chris Adams when he first started with World Class. He was really a helluva worker and even when you watch his WCW stuff and he was past his prime, it was still really great. My friend Dave was the only other person watching World Class at the time since we were from Upstate NY. After World Class' heyday it was difficult to figure out where Chris was (I believe he had some major legal trouble before the girl he did GHB with died). But anytime he would pop up on TV and either Dave or I saw it, we would call the other to tell them that Chris was on TV because he was just that damn good.
Him signing with WCW showed the issues with having too large of a roster. WCW just didn't have a place for Chris. He wasn't spectacular at anything, just really good at everything and a worker like that you often times have to put a focus on and build them up because they probably won't get over if you immediately try to establish them as a superstar.
He actually would've been a great candidate to be a Four Horseman instead of Paul Roma (nothing against Roma, but he was a midcarder in the WWF and that didn't translate to being a Horseman). He had the look, the in-ring ability, the promo ability and could work as a single or in a tag team.
this was a great episode of dark side of the ring i learned so much about chris adams because he was before my time wasn't he in the universal wrestling federation the superkick used to be special now it's just a transitional move that doesn't finish anybody it only gets a two-count.
Feel The Power!
Big Johnny! You got yo' mufflah?
So no mention of the AWF?
Feel the power!!!
24:57 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I want a supercut Omnibus of Brian Last laughing about something Jim says. 🙏
"Hate it that i had to kill him before he murdered me." Had me laughing.
I'd like to see some writing on Gino, comparing and contrasting all his tag teams
• Gino / Tully
• Gino / Jake
• Gino / Chris
When I was a kid I loved Chris Adams, I never knew any of that, I just thought he was adorable. It did look ridiculous when they made his eyes literally glow red like an evil robot.
I HATE angry drunks. You shouldn’t have to babysit a grown man when everyone is trying to have a good time. If he would’ve assaulted a pilot & flight attendant post 9/11 he would still be in prison today, and therefore alive. He was a great talent nonetheless.
Feel bad for the daughter, she says she was there to defend her dad. That guy was a POS
Sometimes family members have a hard time accepting the fact that the person they love is a piece of trash
“Snatch you bald headed”
Booray reminds me of too many people that I knew growing up. Scary.
Two seperate people, BooRay and Kevin Von Erich, mention the glowing eyes - that’s weird.
Probably the most squandered potential in the business ever. Chris was phenomenal in 1985 and should have only gotten bigger from there. Such a shame. 🇬🇧
The muffler ! Hahaha yes !!
Self-defense murdering and head shitting... wasn't that a GG Allin song?
14:38 were the Von Erichs not all that bright?
Basically 😅
The realest super kick of all time. I grew up in Dallas watching these guys. I was so hurt when Gino died. But I loved baby face Adams. In 86 when Kerry got hurt I quit watching.
Got to see Chris win the WCCW World Championship 4th of July 1986 against Ravishing Rick Rude (Percy Pringle hit Rude with the championship belt that aided Adams with the victory). Never forget it cause I was a mega Chris Adams fan.
He lost the belt (not televised) a week or two later to Black Bart (who was unknown to kids my age then) and never bounced back. I think he got into some legal issues and may have done some jail time as well.
Come on Last where are the new episodes!
There was overlap in this one due to tales from the territories. Still good though. 👍
I wonder what happened in Chris Adams early life that made him have so much anger when he was intoxicated?
Wish there was a biography available for him
Had to Google Top Dolla after hearing him mentioned, apparently he's in TNA? Someone tweet Jim and Brian they gotta watch it now
FEEL THE POWER
Guy was a total jerk. Good that he is gone .
FEEL THE POWAHHHH!
