I remember thinking we were about to see Easy E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube invade WWF
Yeah easy e coming from the grave in 1997
😂😂😂😂
Jim should make some of these thumbnails into t-shirts.
@DimebagVision Good Ol FatBack lol
Would be awesome, but they are using the likeness of these people. For a CZcams thumbnail that's fine, but as soon as you start making a profit from their likeness (like selling merch with their faces on) then they have the right to be compensated.
For some of these folks that are portrayed in a positive light (like the Rock n Roll/ Midnight Express guys) will probably not have an issue. But people like Kenny Omega, Vince Russo and Ryback will probably not give their consent for their image to be used in this way.
For the record, if it had been me, Jesus, I would say yes!
@SolidSnake I can think of a few names 🤣
Agreed.
They’d make cool stickers for sure.
This one felt like a 25 minute run on sentence
Always does.
Yeah, a lot of nothing in this one.
Picturing Jim living in Connecticut is just weird.
Especially considering Jim is originally from Kentucky and still has his accent.
Fish out of water
I remember this being one of the most confusing storylines in WWE history.
Vince killed the rock and roll express when he brought them out to the rockers music .
I was speaking to this kid at one time and he told me that the rockers were first and I just shook my head
The express could come out to lollypop and get it over
@@LegendofTheCosmic7then why did nobody react to them in 93 and 98 during both WWF runs.
@@dolandarkxgrandayy6953 Because most WWF fans are clueless marks, who know nothing about pro wrestling and Vince groomed them into thinking that every other wrestling promotion sucks and wrestlers from those promotions are subpar compared to the "Superstars" of the WWF. Same reason why Flair bombed, when he was introduced as "The real Champion from that other promotion". Fans instantly thought he was crap compared to their heroes.
@@LegendofTheCosmic7no way a good few of the top people in the NWA in that era were getting over because of their entrance music.
In this angle Jim said something like "We are the real NWA, and this is the official NWA championship. Any organization claiming to trace the lineage of their championship to the NWA championship is lying. As far as we're concerned the WWF and others are outlaw promotions, and soon we'll put all these outlaw promotions back under the control of the NWA."
If they had portrayed them like legitimate threats, I think this angle could've been salvaged. I really like the idea of an old and vengeful empire trying to reclaim its old territory. They could've made the NWA into something like a conspiracy or something, like it turns out X wrestler has been working for the NWA this whole time because they want wrestling to be old school.
Mainstream fans watching wresting didn't take them serious.
@@johns1187 Because they weren't presented as serious from the get go. They had the goddamn NWA World Champion, Dan Severn, and even he they didn't really treat very seriously.
@@johns1187 what lol? NWA was the mainstream for half a century bud.
@@stephenjones1488 Yeah but in 1998 it was the polar opposite of what was happening on WWF television with the likes of the Ministry of Darkness, DX, and shit like that.
@@dankahaner Yeah, if it had happened a few years earlier, before the attitude era it could have worked. By 1998 on the other hand it was kinda obsolete...
I love the cartoon artwork associated with these podcasts.
I need this art as a T-shirt
Days of the week, according to Cornette:
Mondee, tuesdee, wednesdee, thursdee, fridee, saturdee, sundee
History shows, anything heavily involving Jeff Jarret will bomb horribly.
Jim forgot that WCW jobbed out The Rock N Roll Express in 1996.
They jobbed out Flair too.
Jobbed out Roadwarriors too in 96
@@smarkslowplay3512 as they should. Warriors were way past their shelf life at that point.
@@carl5381 half-agree with it. Could have gotten more mileage out of that, but there were other reasons why they had such a short run there
@@smarkslowplay3512 I don't remember the Road Wariiors being jobbed out in WcW in 96. They weren't destroying people but they werent being jobbed out from what I remember. Def nothing compared to the epic burial they'd receive from DX and The Outlaws
Dennis Coralluzzo carried the NWA on his back in the 90s, and ran some of the best shows in the tri state area during that time.
Good times and even better wrestling back then
Wasn't what the tri-state audience wanted at that time. Which is why Dennis hated ECW.
Idk back then they were seen as small-time as small-time can be, I side with Prichard for once on that. Like if GCW suddenly "invaded" WWE now
LOL
Pity the NWA decided that the title going from Flair to Rude was worth throwing away the name & title having a worldwide audience & that running in high school gyms was the way to go.
Having The Rock 'n' Roll Express join Jim Cornette was meaningless to fans who'd only watched WWF because they gave almost no backstory during the angle and insulting to fans who'd watched NWA/WCW because they knew how implausible it was.
I was thinking the same thing when they did this dumb angle, why would the Rock N Roll express have anything to do with their mortal enemy Jim Cornette.
Yeah I thought that was weird to watch. Plus them coming out to the the rockers theme
Artwork inspired me to purchase a Cameo of Cornette throwing up Too Sweet & saying "FA LIFE!"
@LastDropFalls he will soon.
Why? He does so in one of the 98 rants.
czcams.com/video/Il65bpBgevI/video.html
@LastDropFalls Cornette is prepping for this third round of cameos.
@@fuscinula Didn't see it in that clip. You're reaching because you recalled him referencing the NWO
This would have been so good if they somehow got ric flair in 1998 and made this angle
As an avid WWF viewer in the 90s, the NWA invasion was trash. With all due respect to the NWA talent involved, the Raw audience gave ZERO shits about them. Regardless of quality, to the general audience the NWA was a dead brand. With all due respect to the man, no amount of build could have gotten mullet-wearing out-of-shape Ricky Morton over to the WWF audience in 1998.
100% None of us gave a damn.
Think about this, they were ignored in the WWF in 1998 and then debut on AEW in 2019...
@@jayleblanc3598Well yeah, they've become old enough at this point that they're nostalgic. Back in 1998, they were just old. There's a big difference in market potential between being old and nostalgic.
@@cville991 You mean the promotion that is all but dead at this point? Don't get me wrong, I loved the old NWA system and what it represented, but I won't allow my personal feeling to cloud my reasoning. The NWA hasn't been relevant to the mainstream audience since WCW left the NWA.
@@juansanchez209 Obviously it's not going to be what it was in the seventies. But I think their most recent efforts (even during and after the pandemic) have been a vast improvement over the nineties. I'm willing to see what this year holds on store.
I always loved Jeff! That dude was money! Thanks for these clips and I love when Jim answers a question and it takes 2 hours! 😁
LOL. Jeff was money hahahahahahaha you can't be fucking serious.

Jim Cornett. I’ve been a biggest fan of yours ever since I was young me and and grand pap never not like your. Storyline my grandfather past now 5 years now . Always got a kick out of you . @@staticcharm3808 what was
@@staticcharm3808 Not as creepy as you! stop trolling.
In the voice of Vince McMahon "Goddamn pal, WCW has the NWO but we've got the NWA"
I hated this storyline it seemed bizarre to have a bunch of old dudes "invade"
Rock & Roll Express were in WCW recently before this, so it isn't like they came out of nowhere. They wrestled Flair & Arn on Nitro.
I wouldn’t put it past Vince to book some thing just to kill it. It’s been well documented by those who were involved that he did the ECW brand as a cash grab and to try and stop people from chanting it in every arena
I was at the State College Raw show. It was the last time I would be able to attend a WWF TV event.
The nwa in WWE in 1998 was awesome. I remember one episode of raw they beat up the headbanger's. All of them were great. Barry Windham, Jeff Jarrett and the rock n roll express.
No, it was a total disaster. Pairing the Rn'R Express with their mortal enemy Cornette was retarded and having a "new" Midnight Expresss was idiotic and Jeff Jarrett is still a loser who never drew a dime.
Imagine Corny & Uncle Chael having a convo
I think my head would explode
Travis Heckel is still battin a thousand ⚾
0:11, 0:48 I'll never tire of Corny calling it the WWF. Thanks Jim! 😁👍
I love it. I called it WWF for 17 years and I just can't call it anything else.
@@dhornjr1 We all think of it as the WWF even after the name change!
He's talking about a period of time when it was still the WWF. Of course he's going to call it that.
@@jaydav6521 I know. I just love it when he does that.
I still call it WWWF
😃👍 I'm screenshotting this picture in the video, this artwork is epic!
Is there a site where I can find the Nate Bash Song This Is Why, which was played at the end of this episode?
Damn Travis the artwork is great and hilarious 😂
These thumbnails are just 99,999 ouze gold
The only memorable thing about the NWA gimmick was Jarrett's awesome theme tune.
Not an invasion more like annihilation.
Best things about the angle were:
- Tommy Young working on RAW;
- Jarrett's theme song;
- JR saying on commentary "Bradshaw is fighting the entire NWA!!" (always thought that was funny as hell 😂).
He fought the NWA, then found a best friend in the former black militant Farooq. Long term story telling.

At the RAW in Fresno, The Rock and Roll Express with Jim Cornette as their manager wrestled the Legion of Doom. To my knowledge, that was the only time that match happened. Later that night was the famous Steve Austin Mike Tyson Confrontation.
Love how Vince Russo and Vince McMahon ribbed Cornette with this storyline and Cornette still doesn't understand it was designed to piss him off. Anyone remember that backstage segment from the same time period where McMahon corners Cornette and humiliates him on the air about southern wrasslin?
Lol damn u might be right howcome jim don't see it

It was an awful angle. Could it have been good?....eh. Maybe. But it was truly terrible and if you watch those Raw’s it really didn’t fit in at all with that early attitude era phase.
Great times back then when wrestling was wrestling and not this farce it's become
Another old dude stuck in the past. Wrestling was always silly entertainment. You want real watch UFC
I don't want to hear about no old head wrestling back in the day was the real deal second of all UFC is good but it was better back in the day when you couldn't see it on regular tv so I'm tired of people who are butthurt because there era is weak and sucks trying to have an opinion do your research if you think wrestling is fake tell them to there face and you will find out how real it gets
@@staticcharm3808 Should we watch gymnastics then? Because that's what you're a fan of. You aren't a professional wrestling fan. You're a neckbeard who wishes he wasn't so fat so you could do a roly poly and chant "that was awesome".
Great artwork.
Weird coincidence considering I just rewatched the 98 Rumble where Jarrett appeared wearing the NWA North American Title and attacked Owen Hart
Being Stunnered without retaliation, after only a 3 minute match, was the absolute best utilization of Jarrett throughout his entire career.
Austin stunning Jarrett and mocking his strut after he won the NWA N.A. Championship was the most memorable moment of Jarrett's career.
He broke a thousand guitars and never drew a dime.
Ooooooh, I member.
That was great.
@@kristopherbrown146 he drew a hell of a lot of money out of Vince in order to drop the IC title to Chyna prior to his 1999 departure to WCW
@@doctorrobotnik4209 To be fair, that was money which he was owed as far as I can gather (I can't really blame him for making sure he got it, especially since it was the WWF's own fault it happened; it's not as if they couldn't have had Chyna win the first IC Title match she had with Jeff without a Dusty Finish while promoting the Good Housekeeping Match as a rematch if Jeff resigned).
I wonder if Jim's seen Flair on Kevin Hart's Cold as Ball's internet show last week?
I'm not sure Heckel's depiction of the alignment of Robert Gibson's eyes is entirely accurate.

Jim put over Vince Russo, my ears aren't working right
A broken clock is right twice a day!
That should be thee perfect angle WWE vs NWA . Their top 3 champions ( from both companies ) going against another for bragging rights of which company is supreme.
That thumbnail is bad ass
As Jim often says, everything has to fit. An NWA invasion, especially with mid and lower carders leading it, didn't belong in the WWF's Attitude era.

That's been Jeff Jarrett's gimmick for the last 12 years.

Beaver Cleavage was a stupid gimmick. Mrs. Cleavage would offer Beaver some of "Mother's milk" when he complained that his cereal was dry. The woman that played Mrs. Cleavage (Marianna Komlos) died from breast cancer in 2004.
We all wanted some of that milk though.
There really is no excuse for Jeff Jarrett's long term friendship with Vince Russo.
You cannot be that blind for that long.
