The Barber Shop window spot is a top 3 moment from that Era. The entire thing was awesome, but Bobby Henan's commentary was the best part of it. He is the main reason it became so iconic.

The Dark Side of the Ring crew doubled down on the craziness of the reenactments. The science lab explosion that sent the classmate into oblivion had me struggling to breathe
Yeah, like what kind of explosive materials are they going to have in the high school chem lab? C4? or Phosphorus? We mixed yellow and blue in a pipette when I was in highschool and my idiot lab partner goofed around and stained my new shorts with it.

Marty is that guy who chain smokes cigarettes for 30 years, does packs a day for decades, and somehow doesn't get lung cancer. The fact that he has not OD'd on the drugs he has used and or died from dumb stunts he has done is a shock to all mankind. I'll be totally honest and say that when I heard about the Dark Side episode my first thought was whether or not Marty was still alive. How that man is still alive I will never know, God bless Marty.

Dark Side of the Ring has basically just become a biography show for drug addict wrestlers. It is crazy how badly addiction hits these guys. Sunny for example was a med student when she started in wrestling. She'd probably be a doctor today if she never met Candido. And the drugs got her so bad she was blowing guys at ECW just to get free somas, she made a porno and she killed a guy. Marty Janetty wasn't as good as Shawn but he was very good. One of the best workers in the company at that time. He could have had a great career but drugs. Bam Bam also drugs. And those are just the ones who become addicts and it negatively affects their career. There are guys like Kurt and Shawn that were just as bad as those guys only they kept their jobs.
They had anything they could want at any time. Those doctors should be ashamed. Over prescribed all these people for years. So sad. So many people in our country are addicted to pills. So many doctors just $$$ hungry.
I honestly believe Sunny was always like that deep down, and the fame and addiction brought it out more. There are stories of her cheating way back in SMW, before she was famous or did drugs.
Darkside of the RING and Tales from the Territory told me some of the greatest true stories I've ever heard.
Of the guys using drugs, Shawn quit once he found religion. I can't say if Angle quit or not. Bret Hart talks about the doctors in his book who had a line of wrestlers who passed out stuff. He admitted to taking some. It all stopped once the Feds came in. Some of the guys like Bret stopped, but as we many didn't and we lost a lot of because of drugs.
Sunny always denied she was taking any, even when she was caught. I remember reading about her and Chris being caught after they left WWE. Then Chris died. Sunny apparently kept using and denying it.
Sunny let that fame go to her head, add that on top of being the very definition of a narcissist and you get a train wreck... Sunny couldn't stand the thought of Sable and other women coming in and taking off and she thought banging top talent would hold her spot🤷🤷 The justice system failed by letting her off the hook time after time and she ended up killing someone... She seems toxic and Marty seems to always say nothing happened between him and Sunny and I wonder if that's out of respect or he just doesn't want to claim that one🤷🤷😂😂
Marty is Marty's own worst enemy and I don't blame Shawn from breaking up The Rockers. In the same way that I don't blame Bret Hart for wanting to get away from Jim Niedhart.

I honestly do think some of this bowling alley story is true. Maybe he didn’t kill the guy but he hurt him and ran off. It’s too random of a story to make up and the details seem very specific. I can believe some creepy bowling alley employee use weed as a way to try and take advantage of a younger boy
I'd go with that as well. The thing he said about not wanting to tell his brother in case his brother tried to kill the guy actually makes sense if he just beat up the guy, or ran away.

2 things really stuck out to me.
1) I was really impressed with Al Snow. The guy has taken a lot of head trauma yet is still well spoken, articulate, and genuine.

Marty is right about Shawn about coming out on top despite being in worst of situations and bad company. Remember thereafter he formed Kliq with (Late) Scott Hall and Nash. Both had bad drug addiction with Hall's being the worst amongst them. Then he had an affair with Sunny whose life complete downward spiral post WWE. Shawn was able come out in one piece and get his life together.
WWE next gen / young talent say he's STILL a cnut and only changed on the outside.

The whole episode was just a lesson in not being a moron, for some people like a Marty, that was impossible.
The Rockers breakup is still absolutely legendary. But Marty Jannetty barely even tried afterwards. Changed nothing about his character, kept the team's old theme music, developed no character whatsoever. That is a death rattle. Jannetty can blame god and Shawn and everyone else, but Jannetty just wasn't as good and wasn't nearly as smart as Michaels.
And I still don't understand how Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson were heartthrobs. They were ugly af lol.

I saw a match earlier from 1996 with Jannetty as heel and Michaels as face - and it doesn't work. Jannetty was awful as a heel and he didn't develop a bit since the breakup.
Also, funny comment regarding the R&R. True. Never understood why Cornette always claimed they had a more sex on their way to the ring than most people have in a lifetime.

If they do another season they really need to do Jim Cornette vs Vince Russo. Just interview both in separate interviews, asking the same questions, chronicling their entire professional relationship.
Another fun episode would be the Jim Herd years of WCW and how badly he damaged WCW's product back then.
I don't know if there is enough material for an episode but the scissors incident between Sid and Arn Anderson would be interesting.
If they want to go with a couple of more recent happenings they could do CM Punk vs the EVPs or the NDA scandal with Vince McMahon.
Another great episode idea would be on Hulk Hogan and his backstage politics through out his career.
Maybe an episode about the rash of early deaths in late 90s... Crash Holly, Louie Spicolli, Hawk, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, etc.

Marty Jannetty almost got his ass kicked by Ray Stevens. Marty was in San Jose, CA in the early 90s for a WWF show and all but threatened Ray Stevens (who was in his mid 50s) in the locker room. Apparently, Ray was working as an agent at the time, and he questioned Marty who was half asleep on being too f*cked up to wrestle. I guess Marty didn't like it and got in Ray's face, so Stevens ended up going to Vince McMahon to let him know he was going to knock Marty out in self-defense if necessary. Ray didn't want to get in trouble with Vince if something bad happened, and Vince told him to do what he had to do. Marty wisely calmed down.
Poor Marty eeeeeshhhhh i remember he was my hero . I liked him over Shawn when i was a baby . Looking back Shawn was indeed the better choice Vince definitely had an insight we didn't see .
I believe I mentioned this in the Dark Side of the Ring comments, Marty was the technical side of the Tag Team. Shawn as Vince would say was the sizzle vs Marty's steak.
I have been waiting for this and it didn't disappoint Jim's reviews are often better than the actual episode

@stewartmcrae8007 I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska in the 80's, born in 80... So the adults were able to watch Vern's Minnesota territory on Saturdays when they were younger and Omaha had some talent. Mad Dog, Luna, Doug The Pro, Mantar lol rip, Million Dollar Man... etc... but I never seen or knew anything about territories... I was the prime age of watching WWF in 86-93 from age 6-13 and then later... but I knew at very young it was Kayfabe, just like I knew cartoons and comics were fake... I still thought they were kinda mad at each other, and I still loved Baby Faces and HATED Honky Tonk Man, Sargent Slaughter, and Boss Man... Listening about the southern territories makes me jealous... Those crowds and events looked super fun... I couldn't image a kid or guy fan who wasn't smart to the business because of how territories operated then watching WWF in 1989, going "what the hell is going on!!!" Me and my brothers ONLY knew 80's WWF... what a change in a show from 1979-1989... Man... If only a few of those territories held on into the late 80's, when WWF popped and then could still sell tickets... Crazy how the decline of the show started going downhill in the mid 2000's -2010 when the territory guys were all getting out of the business. Developmental isn't near the same as a Territory... its all rookies... Old territories would throw a guy in after training for 6 months in a show with Ric, Steamboat, Arn, Sting, Wayne Ferris, Jerry etc all on the same card... And they helped each other out! Mainly to have a driving buddy or to mutually help find work in other territories in the future.

Yeah but the other seasons had better more memorable episodes like the new Jack episode or Chris Beniot or even Owen hart . This season has been ok but no massive stories imo

Even the people in the episode besides Al Snow were all washed up nobodies who even in their prime were nobody, lower tier midcard wrestlers. With Marty its always everyone else fault but his.

I find it so crazy hearing about how Vince hated Al Snow. Growing up, I always remembered him as a great wrestler who then went over to being the star coach of Tough Enough, the WWE's reality tv show based around developing new talent. He was a guy so technically gifted in the ring, they said, "I want you to personally train our new talent"

They were both at the same conventions (he was there for wrestling stuff, she was the cohost of a local rockabilly horror movie show). She's a really bubbly girl, she probably just struck up a conversation and he loved the attention. He said that he had to put her on his "ho phone" so his girlfriend wouldn't find out.

Marty Jannetty was such a great wrestler better than Shawn at first but he was his own enemy. You might love or hate HBK but even he was probably tired of bailing out Marty for all the stupid shit he did. The fact that even in 00s he still got it but his demons got the best of him is pretty sad. It was good to see that Shawn tried to help Marty out in the end.
Shawn never bailed Marty out. Shawn kept Marty down. Shawn had a bigger problem than Marty. Shawn was tge golden boy tho

I could be wrong, but when Missy introduced herself as Beefcake’s manger, I took that a bit more literally. As in she manages him in real life - she books his public appearances, manages his travel, accommodation etc. I didn’t take it to mean she ever managed him in the ring.
Paul Diamond is alive and well. He's a Facebook friend of mine. Still talks about wrestling all the time.

Good lord... All these tag team names. This is why Jim is a historian. To keep up with all those tag team names and to be able to put faces to them.
I wish Corny would write it down and publish some books.
This episode of dark side of the Ring was both crazy and absolutely insane all at once can't wait to see what topics get talked about on season 5.
Not to mention if you watched it via CZcams, it would repeat through the beginning.

Yeah, Dark Side left out Marty Jannetty working with Kurt Angle. It was tied to Angle's feud with Shawn Michaels. Kurt even sang a parody version of Shawn's music "Marty Jannetty.. still can't walk... I'm just a sexy Kurt..."

Maybe the funniest thing I ever seen on Dark Side was the actual video footage of Marty crashing the bike in India 😂😂😂 we all knew a guy like Marty

Like most things on vice it's pretty bad. Only sad part is dark side was actually good for a season or two but slowly got ruined cause on vice

On big take from that episode is you really see Jims point RE size/ Marty and Shawn were considered smallish yet look at their upper bodies in those clips compared to the Bucs and Cole

As a medical provider regarding the poorly explained state of janettys ankle, the most common assumption would be that he post-op infection that has likely colonized like waking up with a regrettable one night stand that keeps hiding in the closet everytime you try to get her out of your house(I explained it in terms Marty would understand). It would be safe to assume it either began as or has become a methicillin resistant staph. Many folks who were in gyms AS WELL AS anyone who was using needles without aeseptic techniques and precautions became colonized with mrsa in the late 90s-2000s. Throughout the 2000s it wasn't uncommon to have a dozen patients a night in the ER with mrsa abscesses and/or cellulitis. I have no doubt looking at that leg (and if I could see an X-ray I could tell you for sure) the has actually progressed to osteomyelitis, or in layman's terms the bones themselves are infected. This is why diabetics develop gangrenous extremities/ lose limbs. Even without being immunocompromised it's nigh impossible to ever completely eradicate the infection from osteomyelitis. I wish him the very best, but that leg is likely going to require amputation, or will end his life. One last thing, Bruce Pritchard comes across as the most underhanded, conniving, sniveling little worm who has made a livelihood as a parasite sucking blood mouth-latched to Vince's hemorrhoids. Its like a combination of bitterness that he couldn't be the big strong, cool brother like Dr. Tom and that lackey behavior that carves a niche by directing the tyrants anger while giving vince handjobs and stroking his ego. I don't see how there isn't more piss and vinegar amongst ppl for him like there is for Bischoff (as an example).

Marty worked on that ankle for so long that it actually at the ankle bone to foot was at 90 degree angle. What you saw was some post op procedure.

I have zero interest in Marty anymore. Same feeling as what Charlie Sheen became. From what I've seen, Marty thought this would make him a cool cult figure, and he's actually being severely laughed at.

Well, Roddy Piper once pulled Shawn aside in the locker room telling him he had a very bright future in his career and sees he would become a major star someday. In fact both Roddy and Marty told that story and it really upset Marty. Sometimes things happen for a reason, just look at how we got the Road Warriors? That happened because of one guy with bad habits - Matt Bourne - who ended up being fired and Arn became a Horsemen while Animal had Hawk to become a legendary tag team.
I quit maybe 10 years ago...but watched pro wrestling for between 25 and 30 years. Marty going through the glass was the most profound moment of that entire stretch. I loved the Rockers, Marty was my favorite of the two. When Hogan won, i experienced joy. When Ric Flair would cheat, i would get so angry. But only one time in that 30 years did i have my heart broken. Ill never forget it.
Speaking of Paul Diamond, I heard a story that he was seeing another wrestler’s girl behind his back. Diamond was is one of his masked personas at the time. As payback, the boys took turns wiping their asses with the inside of his mask when he wasn’t in the locker room and since he wouldn’t put on his mask until right before he went out, it probably didn’t hit Diamond until the match had started and it was too late to do anything about. If true, that’s pretty brutal.
