I was so sold on the idea and typed the address into the browser and found it didn't work, but I still ended up at whoop. Tried looking how to buy and all I could see was sign up. Curious I clicked on it and discovered it is heaps per month. So dissapointed! Way too expensive and I'm not happy to pay ongoing. I thought it would be like buying a Garmin heart rate monitor or something.

I've had mine for about 45 days and I'm loving it. I'm working full time, navigating a complicated family life and training for gravel races (at 47). It's been very beneficial so far and I can't wait to get more data compiled. I signed up for the 4.0 and Ann waiting patiently.

Cool video! I saw this come up on GCN, and it had me at heart function (HRV). Coming from CHF 6 years ago, this peaked my interest as dying isnt fun and doctors dont want to take you on as a patient. I cycle daily and hard on weekends. I am glad to have HRV and recovery data as verification on how i feel. The price is steep and I am still learning this tool (only had it 24 days so far).

I have been using WHOOP for about 4 months and have been an endurance athlete for more than 30 years (swim, bike, run, lift weights, backpacking, skiing). The device has been very helpful to me in understanding how my body works. I am over 60 years old and retirement has allowed me to get in the best shape of my life. More time to ride especially. Using those big leg muscles will put me into the red. However, swimming with no paddles or big fins has resulted in great HRV readings the following day on several occasions. Must be using those smaller muscles and being in a supported environment that makes a difference. The folks at WHOOP are very responsive to my questions and I appreciate that. The cost of the service is an investment in quality of life and that is priceless.

Thanks for this vid Phil, b/c I been thinking of getting a Whoop. Of all the vids out there this one has been the most technically informative. However, could you please explain what it is really like to practically live with the Whoop? Are you supposed to wear it ALL THE TIME? A you supposed to shower with it or miss that key 10 minutes of HR data after a ride? If so, how do you keep the fabric strap clean and prevent it from getting stinky? It's a real question b/c I live in a tropical (very hot and humid) environment and when cycling the sweat just runs down the arms like rivers. Will wearing it in the shower with soap keep it from getting stinky like my cycling gloves? In this environment its a serious practical question.

So correct me if I'm wrong. Whoop does only one thing which other devices like Garmin, Polar etc don't do and it is going to be summarizing all information from your body and giving it to you. Is that right? I like the idea, but I dont like keep paying for that every single month... 18 month is 324. Another 18 month another 324. It doesn't look much, but still you have to pay every single month. I dont know. But I really like the whole idea. Today I went to my training and felt so bad, but I kept going.

Im looking into getting a Whoop. In theory it sounds like a good idea, its easy to get an enthusiastic athlete to train, recovery always seems to be a guessing game. The only thing is ive read a lot from top coaches that to reach your potential there are times you need to overtrain followed by recovery, im wondering will Whoop discourage this? Now Phil stop interrupting .

Great video you guys! I ordered the whoop a couple weeks ago and I'm very excited to use it with my training program. One thing I couldn't find an answer to on the whoop site was whether or not the whoop program can grant access permissions to a coach on training peaks or if there was a way to get recovery status sent over to Xert. If it can then a human coach or the Xert algorithm could factor whoop data into a training program on the fly. I thought I'd ask here since both of you guys seem to have a good amount of experience with the whoop system. Thanks in advance!

I would guess the Apple Watch is designed more for the broader public and at some point the designers realized that a workout recovery function was less valued by the broader public health than some of the other functions like photo viewing and voice to text stuff. I guess we can take pride in the fact that we are exceptional in our desire for highly specific and detailed recovery data. Yeah health conscious people!
