    After having owned both of these cameras for some two months, I can confess that I ended up parting ways with the Canon. This was not an easy decision as I have an extensive collection of both EF and RF glass... which at this point will likely be used on my Red Komodo... whenever it finally ships.
    Pros for the Canon:
    DGO sensor -this offers a slight advantage in some shooting conditions. It’s a very close call.
    Stealthiness - you can take it places where the FX6 would not be allowed.
    Pros for the Sony:
    Full frame sensor
    Removable monitor (always worried about the C70 flip screen becoming wonky)
    EVNDs
    SDI
    Raw output
    Magnesium build with only the side covers being plastic.
    Best in class Autofocus
    Best lowlight of any camera... bar none
    Excellent built in microphone (top handle)
    Multi-shoe interface
    Adjustable handgrip with zoom rocker.
    Full size XLR inputs
    I cannot stress how revolutionary the EVNDs on the Sony are. Shooters can set their aperture and shutter angle without worry. Even as lighting conditions change you can keep rolling, as the EVND seamlessly takes care of the exposure. EVND also allow you to do cool effects like DOF focus pulls... impossible on other cameras.
    Once you have a chance to use both for an extended periods of time you will understand that these two cameras are actually in a different class.
    Should Sony actually releases the WDR update that will likely tip the dynamic range advantage to the FX6.
    After two months of owning both, I found the Canon was mostly collecting dust.

    Great video Rubidium. I do like the point that the image captured by both cameras is actually quite similar, where as the equivalent Canon / Sony models from say 5-6 years ago had a more defined difference in look. Especially remarkable given that Canon is one of the few manufactures not using Sony processors. Also really good point about cooler / warmer lens options that can even more closely match or differentiate the images. Also nice that it wasn't a "this brand is better than that brand" type presentation. I imagine that the skill of the operator may be a larger variable than the brand one is using.

    As someone who has owned every Mac and build fully custom hardline WC PC builds, trust me when I tell you once you get past not having the bubbly interface that pretends to work well, the right hardware communicates far better with PC.
    As a perfect example, MacBooks bottleneck themselves when they become hot. Not many people know this and it largely attributed to the sluggishness everyone experiences. Even in higher end Mac products, the hitches on the operating system are just nonexistent with a solidly built PC.

    Hey Crimson thnx for your honest opinion. That the two pictures would be so close i didnt expect (with the focal reducer). What really would be nice to have imo is the variable ND. No more adjusting footage for exposure sounds pretty good to me. also low light nice for weddings and so, although the C70 is no slouch, i think FX6 will be even better. Dynamic range is pretty much the same i think, both outstanding. 6K is a lot of money but still very good value for money i guess, amazing times to be a video person :P

    Good balanced and honest information. Thank you. I was curious what you would say as we know you shoot Canon. Of course you’re supper honest. I’m switching from Canon to Sony. Letting go of most of my EF lenses and going full frame Sony. I chose the FX6 for the variable ND. Full size XLR, full dynamic range in all frame rates. ALL-I in 120fps 4K. Better lowlight. Better auto focus in low light. Great handle to hold the camera. Perfect match to a7s3. Oh and the canon with the speedbooster you autofocus only covers 60% of the frame. This was a big issue for me. I shoot s lot of interviews and being in tight spaces I want to shoot them at 1.4 to try and get something of a soft background. I need autofocus and that 60% area would be problematic for framing interviews with lots of negative space. So yah. Sony lenses are taking a little be of getting used to! My two cents if it helps anyone out there.

      ty for your reply, sort of in the same position with 2 EF lenses (24-70 and 70-200 both 2.8) but still leaning towards the Sony. That great variable ND and low light preformance is pretty killer i think. Also bigger area of AF is something that might be very benefical. C70 still very good camera and i feel blessed that we have these wonderful choices. Happy shooting guys (and girls!) :)

    • @JeanMarcAbela
      @JeanMarcAbela Před 3 lety

      Oh yeah! Both are great. I didn’t write it but my plan was to get the C70 &C300. I wanted to stay canon. but when the FX6 came out and the colours where solid it just didn’t make sense. The a7siii competes with the c300mk3 except that you need an external recorder for raw. But beats it in low light and full frame aesthetics. So for the same price of these two canon cameras I’ve gotten the a7siii, the FX6 and 24-105, 16-35, 70-200, 200-600, 90macro and 35 1.4 from Sony. Same price as the two canon bodies. I love those bodies ( I don’t like the canon handles) but love everything. What I’ll miss the most is having False colour within the camera. I don’t have my FX6 yet but from what I understand it doesn’t have it. Which sucks. By far my favourite way to judge exposure, essential for lighting faces. I’m ranting no? Anyway. Both are great I guess I’m just sharing my thinking and process. My friends laugh at me at how much I consider camera features. My wife and I have a running gag. I tell everyday a new camera is announced:))

      @angryrabbitproductions1690 Před 3 lety +2

      It’s not a perfect match to the A7S3... even with the S-Cinetone update that Sony provided. Granted, only the people behind the camera would notice the difference. The FX6 has a more refined image. Even though both cameras use the same sensor and image processors. Clearly the FX6 can squeeze more out of those processors... perhaps this is why it needed the massive heatsink and fan?

    • @JeanMarcAbela
      @JeanMarcAbela Před 3 lety

      @@angryrabbitproductions1690 Great point. I wanted 2 FX6s, but there are some clear advantages to the a7S: amazing viewfinder, stabilized sensor, touch AE available anytime, much better white balance software, overall better menu. and the form factor can be an advantage at times. Gimbals being an obvious one. I think those are the big lines. So from what I've seen online, there is a slight colour shift and also better denoting at the high iso. So its very similar to what I'm used to right now with my GH5 and GH5s. I think I'll program that colour shift within the a7s3 or do it post and that should do it. I'll use the 2 together 95% of the time for 2 camera interview setup which is a big part of my work. So these are most of the time in controlled situations so I can manage the differences quite well.. Its not perfect and perhaps I'll end up getting a 2nd FX6 down the road.. and then I'll want the a71. It never ends. Anyway, the GH5s where solid 10bit images for along time, had great use of them for many years. I'm so happy to go to true full frame with 10bit up to 120P and 13 useable stops. The gear is just amazing right now.

    How do you feel about the lack of an EVF on both cameras? I do have an external monitor, but have grown up on the Panasonic GH3/4/4R/5/5S etc. and have optimised my shooting with an EVF. I now look at the cinema line, as I’ve moved more and more into corporate work, and I can see the FX9 has one and the C300 does not... these two don’t have one... so it looks like the FX9 offers a lot to me... but is huge in comparison to what I’m used to working with. Would also love to use my V mounts, as I have four, even though this will make for a larger rig... it seems a good use for them when they’re not being used to power my lights, which is rare, and also prevents the need to invest in batteries, but the expansions cost a fortune! 😂 The A7S III seems to have everything but internal NDs... and I think I value internal NDs over IBIS... and realise you can’t really make a camera that has both... does the lack of an EVF bother you at all, or do you have one for your C500, so it makes very little difference to you?

      I owned both for two months. My channel has changed a bit . But I’m going to put together a video comparing the two which I shut before changing to my new format. You can see a comparison between the c70 and the A7S3 which I did before receiving my FX6 also.

    Show more footage instead of your head man. Your video are always like that and it's very annoying.

    For the love of God, please add some COLOR in your sample footage. Why is this just a bunch of dudes wearing GRAY t-shirts on a largely GRAY background? If you're going to take the route of showing footage via youtube, and you don't even offer files for download, at least make it worthwhile for us, by adding LOTS OF COLORS in your shots.

      Respectfully, you need to shoot with the FX6 some more. No one that spends quality time with both comes away with that opinion. After two months of owning both, guess which one I still own? I’ll give you a hint... it rhymes with Sony:-)

    For Documentaries C70 all the way.
    Making a PC vs Mac metaphor is just ridiculous and laughable. Lucky your knowledge about cameras are a slightly better.

      hi! can you explain why do you think the C70 is better suited for documentaries? I'm in the fence right now, I can't decide between the FX6 and the C70. I prefer the image of the C70 for what I saw but the VND and the full size xlr's + amazing AF from the FX6 are great advantages too! I already have a Canon R6 and a Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro, but I wanted a camera easier for run'n gun shoots (the Pocket 6K pro has amazing image quality but the lack of AF is sometimes annoying during fast paste events, and the R6 overheats even with my Ninja V, and the lack of xlr port and ND is a big disadvantage too).

    • @jsleger3404
      @jsleger3404 Před 2 lety

      Because I saw that the AF of the C70 Is not always good. I'm not sure I will use it if I see the AF hunting all the time. So if I have to manually focus, I already have my Pocket 6K pro that I love.
