      @@CognitivePersonality You're welcome! I love how you formulate your videos! Ive gone back and forth between ENFP and ENTP for myself and this video helped me realize I am an ENFP not an ENTP after obsessively studying personality theory for the last 2 years! I also have something I call mask theory that helps with cross checking when typing! Also i appreciate the speed of talking because I usually do 1.5x speed on other peoples videos but only need 1x-1.25x on yours

      @@alkalinehawk So I call it Mask theory and its based on the child function of every personality type. Essentially most people in their teens until 30 are probably intensively trying to master their child function as a stepping stone of becoming more mature. So essentially certain types are commonly mistyped as other types especially when they are focused on strengthening their weaknesses. I have seen this in multiple people and types. Here is the chart that shows which types most likely "Mask" as.
      ExTP = ExFJ mask
      ENxJ = ESxP mask
      INxP = ISxJ mask
      IxTJ = IxFP mask
      ISxP = INxJ mask

    Yeah, I never really say it out loud but I do recognize other people's emotions or even "predict" them. I sometimes wish I am capable of doing that with myself. Sometimes, it would take me months or even years to recognize that my feelings have been hurt by someone or a situation. I often think ENTPs are very susceptible to emotional abuse since we don't realize it until it's too late.

      The classic Fe-user dilemma - particularly for those with Fe in an auxiliary position such as the ENTP. As an INFJ (divergent-aux) I can relate to this quite a bit too, albeit to a lesser degree :)

      @joseramirez-hh2sw Před 4 lety +9

      Well when we can see why person A would have ill intent to person B and how it would go about it and how the recipient would react based on well logic almost instantly almost as if we just dip into a dimension where all the answers are and taking answers we merely find ways to break it down to others rather than working for them. Even when we can do that we can't seem to realize why would anyone have ill intent to us, cause well why would anyone have it? Its illogical. I think after introspecting that we kinda turn a blind eye to abuse done to us to ignore pain. Kinda counter intuitive but hear me out and try not laugh. What truly hurts us is losing and accepting facts (the finite). So a finite abuse where we gotta admit and internalize we are abused and that we are then placed in a position where we must take a choice (finite) over the abuse places stress on us. There is no seeming growth in confronting a finite action with another finite action cause we only seem to trust our infinite transformation of ideas to move aroud and dodge pain. We have this avertion to conclusions. And i think it may seem like I'm restating myself again and agian. I tell ppl to look at the nuance . when we transform ideas we regurgitate them again and again bringing nuance everytime we do. But i digress. Pain avoidance. An endless transformation to ideas it only seems logical we do this to ofc to help ourselves deal with pain. Kinda like an event horizon where we keep falling endlessly to a black hole endlessly to tje perception of the subject but already having transpire those outside of it. Honestly i have trouble expressing myself when my stomach is aching. I wonder if this is common or just a pretty useless gauge my body uses to let me know I need food.

      It's generally really hard to see me hurt because when in pain, I completely shove the negativity away and leave my emotions in some imaginary dark abyss but after months or years it becomes way too much and I just need to cry and then when I do cry, I try to find a logical reasoning as to why I found the need to do something as weak as crying

      Take my advice.
      In instances like these. Watch till you reach an idea that inevitably catches you're eye. Take to writing about it on say your phone since lets be honest you're probably watching this on it and its already on your hand. Explore said idea's multiple intricacies and the seemingly endless string of nuance that arise as you type away about it.
      Having done that resume the video. And proceed to do it all over again. Once the video ends and your sitting ,unbeknownst to yourself, on a mountain of pure gold set to put it all together and proof it for grammar cause lets be honest to ourselves it was kinda a waste of space and time and effort to learn and memorize.
      Once all that is done, and ik lol its a lot of steps and this comment seems to have gone on and on for an eternity, ask yourself as if you were being asked by say the author of the video "so what did you thought of the video?" If all went as plan you'll answer along the lines of "wHaT vIdEo?"

    So, clarifying! I came out as an ENTP on the first test I found about these cognitive functions. On reading and listening to various description I thought it was wrong: I don’t argue just for the sake of it. I like to discuss things and, on doing it, I do care about the feelings of others. When developing a collective project, which is what I do best, I design each thing for the feeling of every one no to be hurt by the design itself!
    When I heard you on another video talking about ENTP being responsible for otter peoples feelings it hit me like a drop hammer (maybe a bad translation from Spanish). I hadn’t realised that’s what I’d been doing all my life! Cause there isn’t something so feeling in me on my specific behaviour but, hey, once I saw this, I could not unsee it.

      This is very true. I grew up a first child in a very isolated area and I didn't when younger appreciate the mutual benefits of encouraging acts of service from others. I suck up emotions of those around me and in a relationship I usually end up understanding a woman's motivations better than she does(with the benifit of objectivity) For me, Invention and technological innovation has been my sweet spot and I don't achieve intellectual intimacy with those who are happy to praise, but lack in their own creativity or at least have an ability to be a "muse" And computer programming- there are no pyychological disorders to use up my own analytical energy, no bad days, no drugs, no boozing etc. And yet I'm also very happy in a teaching situation.

    I'm an entp. I have adhd and got mistyped as an infj. However, several factors including lock down also contributed to the mistype. I've always at heart been a social butterfly. Great at networking, seeing how people react and advancing in life to get where I need to be. Everywhere I've gone I've always been great at both big picture thinking and details, but at the end of the day the bigger picture was always so obvious. Also I've always always had difficulty with structure and where it didn't work, I've never hesitated to comment or blurt out inefficiencies which has gotten me into trouble as a child. However since I also have adhd, I know that has also massively contributed to the mistype. It was only until after I seeked therapy and got on medications that I could accept myself and how I am rather than fight against it.

      Hey there I'm a divergent ENFJ with an ENTP son who's on the ADHD pathway. May I ask how the medication helped you as an ENTP (I also have ADHD but I believe it manifests in cognitive types differently)? My son is very bombastic with his NeFe & as you said he has a tendency to blurt things out when he sees logical inconsistencies; he genuinely not trying to be antagonistic in fact he's a very caring & gentle little boy I just think because of his charismatic exterior many people feel like he's able to 'take' harsh criticism for his behaviour & don't always understand that it's not under his conscious control...despite being a convergent feeler he can have eruptions of emotions/meltdowns perhaps because his FiSi is so unconscious which I think is probably due to his ADHD. Luckily he has great teachers who are really supportive & really find his cheeky demeanour very endearing. Any advice or perceptive insights would be appreciated...I think CPT is a great adjunctive or at least part of my tool kit for parenting & it helps to understand my son on a deeper level..at least I hope it does. I know you have to be tentative about typing at such a young age but I've given it a lot of thought.

      I only care when somebody I'm supposed to "live" with, tells me that.
      So, perhaps my best friend who's also my boss. Well, I guess that's it. Nobody else lol
      When he tells me I'm not open-minded, I wanna throw up. But I don't get "defensive" about it. I just ask questions to try and understand why he thinks that so that I can consider it, and then he tells me I'm being stubborn and defensive. Thug life.
      It's actually a pattern. Whenever somebody tells me something that I don't agree with, and I start asking questions to actually try and understand their point of view and perhaps see if they're right and I'm wrong, they say I'm not listening, not open-minded and stubborn.I learned to shrug it off though

    Thanks for a great video. I'd love it if you could do a comparison video between ENFJs and INFJs. I feel like many broad comparison discussions on these two types over simplify differences and basically say 'ENFJs are natural, charismatic leaders, and INFJs are the quieter, less practical version who loves reading and is better at long term planning'. I'm not very satisfied with the explanations/comparisons those stereotypes offer. I have questions such as:
    - Are some ENFJs quiet, shy and reserved, especially when they are younger?
    - Are some INFJs much more invested in the present social/sensory present moment than stereotypes make out?
    I'm sure you have some great insight on the differences, and it would be great to hear it in a video! Thanks again.

      Hey there Harry has done a video on the broader differences if you want to take a look. I'm a divergent ENFJ & therefore much more socially introverted than a lot of ENFJs indeed I can go days without talking to anyone or leaving the house (it doesn't bother my I'm quite happy left to my own TiNi devices). I'd say to monitor however the degree of time irrespective of social introversion as to the extent to which your bouncing off of external mediums such as this video content in order to synthesise your TiNi or used it more convergently as this might be more indicative of being an ENFJ. Also if you feel the need to impact the social landscape - the itch you need to scratch - you're also more likely to be an ENFJ irrespective of the amount of time you spend on your own. I think in terms of my divergent subtype a kind of social bipolarity ensues...we can be very full on (when well) in social circles but very introverted when not in the company of others occupying a much more cold cerebral landscape.

    This is really interesting! At 10.00+ you talk about how enfps might struggle with the outer and inner worlds. I've found that when I am trying to process multiple demands on me, say from other people and also trying to think about things at the same time I can get overwhelmed and 'snap'! Or it's very common whereby I have to try and think very quickly about things and then expected to express it to others, then that process of retreiving information can get 'jammed'. It often feels like the wiring inside my brain gets tangled up. And its not unusual for me to say the wrong word or even the words jumbled up at times. It's like trying to do something so quickly, that the retrieval pathways cannot keep up.
    So new information for figuring things out is really exciting for me! :)

    “The more the ENTP preoccupies themselves with the external reality, the less secure they’ll be at what is driving them” I understood this lesson early on, and formed a video journal in which I get to that bottom of what I feel and who I am. It was such a shock when I discovered that talking about my internal structure make them clear and tangible, when I try to think of who I am in silence it feels so muddy and convoluted. This whole MBTI business is also helping in terms of understanding my internal world I feel called out sometimes, like how dare you say I look for affirmation?

  • @Illysi
    @Illysi Před 2 lety +3

    For the past year of learning MBTI from starting at 16P to learning functions, all I’ve been certain of is that I’m an xNxP. I’ve watched your INTP vs INFP, ENTFP vs INFP, and now this video. I really think I might be ENTP now, because I never considered that it was an intuitive feeler type. I’ve always been questioning who I am and am no stranger existential crises over it. It’s why I started learning about MBTI in the first place, and honestly didn’t know it was typical for ENTPs to feel that way.
    I still can’t be sure that I am an ENTP because I certainly don’t feel like a “debater” ever, in fact I always try to keep the peace. But to that end, thank you for sharing your knowledge of typology and describing every type fairly and not just reverting to stereotypes when explaining differences in types.

    Before I watch this, I'm just going to explain why I'm here. My discord friend (a likely INTP), said behind my back to another discord person that I might be an ENFP and not an ENTP. It seems that he said this because I keep going on about ideal types. At first, I was saying that INTJs were my ideal and that I wouldn't work as well with any other type, then I switched to INFJs after reading Keirsey, then to ENTJs for a brief time after watching a video that supported them as the ENTPs best match, and then I came to my senses and switched back to INFJs.
    Anyways, that's just an example of perhaps why he suspected that I was an ENFP. I'm not saying that I think that it's wrong to think that there isn't an ideal type, I saw your video on intertype compatibility and I don't disagree with anything that you said. I think that, all other aspects being the same, I can't accept that two different types would work just as well with a third. Thus, I believe that there must be one that works slightly better when all else is the same.
    Thanks for the video. Watching it reaffirms in my mind that I am an ENTP. At this point though, if I can't communicate that well to others, what does it matter? I know so so many people who I think are ENFPs that are typed as ENTPs who pretty much never get corrected. Like Steven Crowder, Eric Andre, CS Joseph, etc.
    I don't know why, but it hurt my soul to be told: "yeah he thinks that you might be an ENFP". This guy knows his stuff. If I'm so right about what type I am, then it should be clear to him, to anyone, what my type is. A few months ago I got typed as an ISTJ, then an ISTP, and I was, I guess, flat out depressed because of it. I want to be making progress: I've solidified my type, now I'll work on my strengths and weaknesses, I'll get better at understanding my purpose in intertype dynamics, etc. Now it's like I'm back to square one. I've done plenty of reading too, I've read Beebe, Types Differing, Lectures on Jung. I know the basics better, but I still can't convince some people of my type.
    I think I know the solution. The problem is that people have the wrong idea about many types, specifically ENTPs in this context. The solution is to teach them the right idea. ENTPs' dominant stack is Ne-Fe, they are "intuitive feelers" in practice. ENFPs' dominant stack is Ne-Te, they are "intuitive thinkers". It's so nice to have a definition that is easy to share, seems true, and is still consistent with the basics of all the cognitive functions.
    Thank you sir!

    I've been torn between ENFP and ENTP.
    It's refreshing to hear type descriptions that aren't riddled with stereotypes.
    ENFP sound like they can be more "hard", "tough" and (in a non gender specific way) "masculine", due to how their Ne relates to Te, and how rigid they Fi can make them in certain situations.
    I always thought I might be ENFP because I can be more sensitive and hate stepping on peoples toes unless they've crossed serious lines, but now I think I may be an ENTP.
    The point that really hit home was how Si makes ENTP hyper aware of their Ti, and thus hate when people say things that don't align with it.
    I have some outside of the box beliefs, backed by science that isn't mainstream. Meaning these are beliefs that are contrary to popular belief, yet backed by experimental data that's often suppressed.
    When someone disregards my knowledge as conspiracy or pseudoscience I get furious.
    However, I don't have a strong sense of identity as an Fi user would. I also am not good at doing Te things.

      I'm very similar to you in going back and forth between ENFP and ENTP. I'm also interested in out of the box ideas or fringe things as well. I always leaned more toward ENTP though. In my case I can see Ti hammering down all the things I've been learning and refining that the general population won't agree with. Fe I can imagine desires harmony and connection, but first and foremost we place precedence over our Ti. I love to review ideas and concepts in my head and apply them to bring unity to humanity. However when it isn't received well, it creates a lot of internal conflict for me. With this I can for sure see the conflict with Ti and Fe regarding outside the box thinking.

    Thanks so much for this clear and thorough explanation of some terms I'd previously never heard before (you really introduced me to some new things I will now have to do more research on and add to my framework and understanding of personality through MBTI lol). It was also really good to get this new perspective on it, most of the descriptions of an ENTP are so biased toward being "strongly argumentative and/or antagonistic", yet I always found myself questioning whether I was really an ENFP as there were some parts I didn't fully relate to. I'm currently still somewhat confused and unsure about it, because there are parts of both types I can relate to.
    I've always gotten the result of ENFP when I answer tests honestly, and from the first time I took a 16 personalities test (perhaps not the best but it was a starting point) I did relate to a lot of the ENFP's description. But I've come to see it's a lot more complicated than the stereotypical descriptions of ENxP types.
    A couple questions anyone can answer:
    1. Would you say ENFPs or ENTPs are more detached from opinions and refrain from maintaining strong opinions and why?
    2. If I'm more focused on/interested in the nature of people, philosophies and others' emotions rather than concrete planning, details and making things happen, is this a likely sign I'm using Fe over Te primarily?
    3. Is it possible for me to have formed a general view of myself as an ENFP since my first test (which was 16 personalities and likely would group me as their very general and vague "Feeling" type because I'm not an insensitive "Debater") and now continue to get that result as I've formulated a view of myself based around the basic description of an ENFP?
    4. Are there any fairly straightforward ways to tell if I'm an ENFP or ENTP and what might those be?
    Appreciate anyone trying to help me with this dastardly dilemma!

    • @Tified967
      @Tified967 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hey there, I'd say ENFPs owing to their Fi authority much like ESFPs are much more likely to give you they'd unfiltered opinion whether you ask for it or not - generally met in a good way of course but as SiFi is essentially locked in place they can be very certain of their values & identity. Re ENTPs my son is one & I find unless people make repeatedly illogical claims he's very much more live & let live & would rather seek to create an enjoyable lively environment for everyone involved. As extroverted feelers I find although their SiTi is hard coded they're much more likely to maintain a level of harmony as opposed to risking the discomfort of the external emotional landscape.

I am an ENTP and for a long period of time in my life I was very private even with my family members, i still kind of am. But i know ENTPs and ENFPs who are not at all like this and prefer to be an open book. Perhaps they can be equally private in their own ways. I think it has to do more with enneagram types. There are more ENFPs of a private type (type 4), than ENTPs, that are mostly type 7

    When you say ENTPs become visibly stressed out if there is an antagonist harming the FE harmony in the group, would this visible stress also become apparent if the ENTP does not feel like they fit in with the group?
    And also would the stress become apparent if the topic of conversation (FE harmony) of the group contradicts a TI logic of theirs?

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  Před 4 lety +5

      Absolutely - as the ENTP takes responsibility for the emotions of a group they would find it most difficult if they were unable to play a key role in seeing emotional harmony realised.
      One of the reasons for this Ti-stress is the breach of Fe harmony it often requires - however, unlike the INFJ the ENTP does not always need the Fe outcome to be a positive one in the here-and-now (Se-Fe) :)

    i made the test twice, and i got ENFP and ENTP. honestly, i didn't know which one fit me best. after watching this video, i think (still not sure) that i'm an ENTP. the only thing that makes me uncertain is the fact that ENTPs are supposed to be smart and i'm not smart, at all. i'm curious though and very good at debating. like u mentioned in the video, it stresses me out when someone's only argument is subjective. that's not how it works. why? well, because then no one can be right. feelings can't be valid arguments in a debate because they're different for everyone. you need to find something that isn't arguable for it to be a good argument, and feelings are simply not.
    i guess i am an ENTP after all

    The video on how you came to find out you are an INFJ resonated with me a lot. However, I didn't comment on that video because I wanted to be sure I knew what I was talking about. What mostly stuck out to me was when you received the INTJ code and said that you wanted to be seen as such. You spoke about the pride and hubris I experienced in my later years compared to when I was a child. (I'm 24, and I've been curious since my uni teachers made the class take the MBTI test). I first got ISTP, INTP, INFJ, ENTP. The first three were done using tests, the others I tried doing by learning about the dichotomies, but I realized I needed to learn more to see what was really going on here
    [Recallibratingmy thoughts so that I can be clear and concise. LOADING......]
    I came to a similar conclusion about MBTI not being enough to inform people about their cognitive processes. So when I heard about the theory that cognitive processes operate on a continuum and I understood what you were saying. Surprisingly because I kept telling myself based on my experience over the years that I am not smart enough. I had a hard time with the test because I kept seeing how people could interpret the answer to their questions and answer based on experiences and memories that would paint them in a light that was favourable to them. so much for answering honestly.
    Some things about me:
    - I'm the person who would be thirsty and walk past the fridge multiple times, not drinking the bit of juice that's left because I said I was saving it from my brother. And I talk to myself convincing myself that I shouldn't drink because it's not like me to go back on my word. So I won't do it.
    - I generally know what I want to say, but when I try to do it I end up underexplaining or showing too many connections without giving enough concrete details. I know the details and I understand the essence of them, but when it comes to show and tell, people generally leave fascinated and curious all I can think about is how much of a moron I feel like because I couldn't deliver it how I wanted to.
    - when people aren't straight with me It triggers me but I don't really show it. or maybe I do, I get impatient a bit impatient and I want them to skip to the point, but I don't say it. I feel bad when I get like this because it doesn't demonstrate kindness. Though I have been told my face looks quite intimidating when I'm quiet and sometimes in la la land when I speak. I tend to gaze when I'm talking to gather my thoughts. I don't realize I'm doing it but from videos, I notice that I do it.
    - imposter syndrome... I feel like an idiot because I'm constantly trying to find the right words to describe the concepts I'm talking about that don't come out as nicely as you so effortlessly speak @CPT. Whenever someone asks me to explain something, it's mostly devoid of specific facts but the truth behind the overarching essence of the matter is there.
    - I'm always trying to find ways to do things better. I still struggle to explain things in really great detail. I'm better at demonstrating what I know through application than I am at explaining. writing essays and focusing on one thing and expanding it in a way that makes things clear to the reader to I learn how to become better at it, requiring me to really sit down and take in what is actually happening here, I understand it but how can I sort this information without losing sight of the details I need to really understand it.
    It's ridiculous how much time it took me to write, comment, edit, delete, correct, save, and comment again so that I can encapsulate what I mean to say. 😅 let's just say I posted this two days ago and I'm still editing it to make it clear and concise. But I'm gonna leave it alone. For good now. By learning about the Cognitive process, it seems the description "ENFP" is most closely related to what I experience and what people told me from feedback. I've looked at everything else, and I came to terms with it, and now I want to learn more about these processes and see how can I be more aware of this and continue to grow and develop. maybe even find a way to work out how I present myself better in terms of speech. Look at me still typing. Ok, I'm stopping now.

      I'd definitely say that it sounds like internally you have NiTi/TiNi especially as you can capture the essence of what you're trying to say but getting into specificity/the logical sequentialism of how you've arrived at that conclusion can be difficult. ENFP might still be a good contender. Id say ENFJ like myself might be a good contender but as our divergent TiNi is conscious aslong as we've synthesised enough information we tend to be pretty good at explaining ourselves. You might give some thought to ESFP as well .

    I watched the video thinking you were going to speak in generalities about both but you pin point it head on.
    As an ENTP as a young adult I struggle with identity heavily.
    And also struggle with my natural ability of seeing and hearing people's words and understanding them on intuitive level. And picking up on external signals and expressions.
    I would constantly internalize and and take myself out the moment.
    Or I would put on a mask to get a positive reaction and although I hate to admit it was for approval of others and because I want to make sure everyone is having a good time sometimes at my cost of looking like an idiot..
    But once I more concretely knew myself and embrace myself, I became like a social guru haha and people were surprised, how can this loose Canon understand me on such an emotional level.
    And although I still pull stunts to entertain others, I entertain myself as well along with actually respecting myself. I do it less and when I do people understand its a joke and I'm being myself more than I am wearing the mask.
    I'm being more present and connecting with people more.

      Generally there is a slight variation in the speech patterns of each of these types, but I wouldn't outright state one is more private than the other. ENFPs absolutely where their true emotions on their sleeves more, but they tend not to seek the spotlight to the same extent as the ENTP (again, generally speaking).
      ENTP's absolutely conceal emotions past a certain threshold, but wearing a mask or otherwise they are still 'behaviourally' very open people. ENTP's tend to be very attached to what they consider logical but in my experience both type's enjoy exchanging myriad perspectives :)

      ENTPs seem to prioritize facts. ENFPs prioritize values and their worldview. That last part is what makes us intense and sometimes behave strangely to others. For example my one man protest against Monsanto a few years back. That seems a very Fi motivated behaviour.
