  • A guide on how to identify the 16 primary cognitive functions of CPT in real life. CPT goes deeper than traditional cognitive function models by introducing a dynamic approach to cognition that takes people out of boxes on onto a spectrum. As a result, all functions outlined in this video should be relatable to every person.

    About me:
    Hi, I'm Harry, and I'm intensely passionate about personality typing and self-development - so much so that I have created my own Jung-inspired system, taking a more high-resolution look at the factors making up personality.
    Through Cognitive Personality Theory I examine the underlying mechanisms behind cognition, and the means through which a single type can have limitless individual variation - I believe type itself is just a set of cognitive predispositions that can according to the needs of the situation be overcome.
    I don't believe any type is limited in what they can achieve, but have noticed sensationalist attitudes and internet trends propagating a culture in which type-development is actively discouraged in favour of conforming to simplistic archetypes. Through CPT I hope to dispel various myths and oversimplifications of what constitutes personality type, and along the way encourage a healthier attitude towards type that allows a person to become not who they are told they are, but rather who they want to be.

    You are the only 16 personality types channel on CZcams (that I know of) that actually makes sense and has a logical/scientific approach to this. I love how you go for Jung’s original works to inform your understanding instead of using popular internet oversimplifications that make MBTI into some sort of new personality horoscope. It’s one of the reasons I don’t like discussing that topic anymore - it seems like most people ignore how complicated and fluid human psyche truly is. Personally, I see MBTI as the most sensible personality system out there but it doesn’t mean it’s always a perfect representation of human inner workings - but then again, can any personality system be perfect? It’d probably have to be overcomplicated and detailed to an ungodly degree to describe each person’s cognitive biases. And probably even then it wouldn’t be actually perfect since we’re all unique, I believe.
    Anyway, enough of my ramblings; I’m struggling to gauge whether I’m an INTP or an INFJ (the convergent Ti and divergent Fe present in both makes me unsure, unfortunately. I’m not that great at noticing my own personality so to speak, though I’m sure I fall into the Ti/Fe bracket), are you perhaps planning a video on the topic, or mayhap have any tips for a struggling fan? ^^

      You're so right about channels who use stereotypes and ones who look deep into the theory and treat it systematically. I'd say mine's in the middle but trying to get more systematic and logical and avoid biases and stereotypes too much. MBTI is the best simplification I've found too! As an INTJ I've liked the being able to simplify everything into the functions then play around with it in my head and draw connections and apply them to the real world. I wonder if you're an INFJ you'd experience a similar thing.
      Yeah your Ti will be intense with either so maybe trying looking at Si. Are you really irrational and petty about certain Sensory things and routines (Si child) or do you actively enjoy going against sensory stuff and couldn't imagine having little routines (Si demon)
      Hope this helps! Yeah a video on this topic would be cool

    I usually score INFP in tests and it makes a sort of sense because I'm overall described by others as a detached, calm and peaceful person. But when I started to make cognitive functions tests only I consistently started to score Fi-Ni, and CPT was essential for me to understand myself as an ISFP. I strongly relate with this type, althought I feel I will never be capable to pinpoint if this is what I really am in reality, haha
    But I must say that seeing the explanation of Te-Se clarified even more my ISFP typing, because this is what I strive in a certain way: objectiveness and something meaningful to be act upon. But this more of an idealisation, extremely hard to put in practice consistently.
    Amazing work Harry, thanks a lot :)

I can't help but smile 😂 especially when you say "NiFi alone is hard to pin point because it's the absence of something rather than the presence of something". Very relatable and in some sense it's kinda the strength of NiFi for me because that is what makes the archetype is kind of general and loose and easier for self transformation in the first place.

    Harry I loved your elucidation of FeSe as 'synchronisation' indeed I am a mental health practitioner and this convergent pairing really does come in handy. I think a lot of people often miss the point in seeing us as people pleasers when in fact our TiNi is very adept at figuring out what the person needs & what the situation needs for a desired outcome. We can be very strategic in that regard; it's hardly as if FeSe convergence is synchronising 'just because', we always have multiple contingencies in place, thinking multiple steps ahead. I'd like to think that as I have a very fluid axis (Fe50/Ti50 as rates by yourself) this makes the pairing even more adept as we require a degree of FeSe divergence in under to truly perceive a persons potential motives/desires/what frameworks they're utilising. I've began to understand the utility of FeSe+ in conveying my more 'out there' TiNi convergence anyhow. Sometimes how you convey something and getting on the same wavelength is just as important as that which you're trying to convey else how do you expect people to listen & have an impact?

    Harry it's so cool that you're doing CPT and cognitive functions overall from the perspective of a mindful mind. It's no surprise to me as I've found Nx-doms to be the most likely types overall to get to this level. But it's great to analyze the functions from this vantage point and in some sense it's a natural progression to individuation. 🤔So what I am really thinking about lens vs codec is this:
    Lens: Having a fixed codec agenda and keep finding new data relating to that certain agenda. Like really using everything available or could use to attribute the fixed possitivic agenda of hyper auxiliary.
    Codec: Careful with new variation of information from the hyper convergent lens function coming to you so you are in constant need to rationalise them through your dominant function. But in this case.. it's more like you have a fixed direction I think
    Also, I like your explanation!

    • @prorok21
      @prorok21 Před 28 dny +1

      That is an interesting approach, new to me.
      Lens can be represented by set of morals that build the framework.
      Codec sounds like a path of self realisation through interactions with outside world.
      Firs is dogmatic, adopted as instruction set rather than realised. It seems that it lives in the collective and individual, (most obvious example is encoded into religion moral compass)which provides greate. stability for a social interactions reducing at a cost of adaptability and often prone for over or misinterpretation, giving a possibility of a very different outcome when applied. This is a manifestation of a source code -ie bible, to the matrix - applied world projection, unidirectional.
      It's a cognitively less taxing, conforming type of approach, that in return ads a layer of group integrity with the same set of instructions.
      The codec is a self adjusting in nature. It is often containing very similar data with different structure that is rather self synthetised as a reflection of characteristics of the outside world. It is a manifestation of Ni dominant function as a facilitator for self change.
      This appears to have an advantage of accuracy at the cost of greater volatility and cognitive burden during development. In this example we have an atheist, who is a humanist in a sense of derived set of instruction from own interactions aka a "moral atheist".
      It's my on the fly application so bear with my idea having a high chance of being incorrect.
      However I was on this topic for a while. God is dead, said famously Nietzsche.
      It seems that great majority of people are unable to develop acodec in absence of lens. That is a neat idea coming together explaining progressive , fragmentation of societies across western cultures.
      Only few percent of population ,Ni dominants,have this unique capacity. They are capable of becoming the "Uber Mench".

    • @RainbowRoadCrashTest
      @RainbowRoadCrashTest Před 8 dny +2

      Nice touch. I would add Codec types always relies on a system that leads to a predictable outcome; they'll always keep readjusting their system for cohesive clarity. Something completely random would either throw them off or they build their system again from the ground up to realign with the new datum they're working with here.
      Lens types don't mind adding randomness in their system, the more random datum it adds the more "true" it is. It doesn't mind the chaos it ensues, because they understand life is about chances here. It doesn't mind uncertainty, conclusions don't drive them when they could explore more instead. To Codec types it may drive them nuts since they like their system to be structured and orderly. But yeah with lens types, it's more about changing the direction of their perception over changing the direction with their rationalism.

    Great analysis, I was thinking for a long time I was an introverted type, but watching those types of videos and actually understanding, what introversion truly is, I was never really a truly introverted person, cause majority of my life I'm a person of constant action/research-process/extremely purposeful, yet very private and seclusive, more of an ENTJ
    From all of those pairings, Te-Se was the most accurate for me, cause literally that's what I'm constantly doing, I can't imagine myself without acheiving something and I'm definitely not a workaholic at all, that's just what I do and what I'm excel at. On the other side, I can't really go like extremely deep into myself and constantly reflect upon some things, cause I just find this process kind of useless, nothing will change if you're gonna just sit and think about future and what it COULD be instead of just doing something, and it even surprises me often, when people are amazed by my rationality/common sense, cause in my opinion I'm not really that great (probably oppositional Fi tricks), and, from what I've noticed, dislike Ti process, just all of this purely academical kind of approach which is really widespread in scientifical field, never was my forte nor I was interested in it
    Se is mostly used for kind of relaxing/as an agency function within Te-Se pairing, at least I can feel it like that, it's not obligating me doing anything, but it greatly helps with focusing on important tasks, my concentration was always incredible, since I was a child

I do think that overall as a type I am an INFP mainly because of my Ne authority and my mostly observational and analytical nature of Te, being a jack of all trades kind of etc. I do have a vibe of serenity and outwardly i can be very adaptive. ISTJ is a sibling type that I'm very, very similar to. Esp when it comes to having strong sense of boundaries, a standard of moral purity, and being a bit moralistic i.e "i don't do this, other people shouldn't either" etc I do have a lot of these kind of moments.

      I think it is really the difference of ti-fe which is the in mode of this is what I should do in xyz situation (fe) and what is the underlying reason (Ti) but rather than this is what I am and what I want (FI) and how should I achieve it (Te). In this sense you can see that rather having a reactive self (Fi-Te). Ti-fe is rather in mode of some sort of "experiment" mode.
      In my entire life I always feel like a mediator of whatever things that I came across. I also have ni-se axis which makes this tendency even stronger. I really just take the information that I am given and to find all its implicit assumptions or backgrounds and try to expand it into a fluent and expansive system as described in ni-ti section. I just try to take whatever I come across to its extreme. This sort of mediation is what my individualities lies rather than any fixed position, my individualities is lies in my role as some sort of will that attach to whatever things that I come across and in its development is where my individualities are. In this sense I have I have personal attachment to my ideas. I guess this is what the "intensity" of the beta quadra comes from which as I describe has their individualities in the development of things and collective

      @@existenceispain2074yes! ENFJ here, you've described this perfectly & succinctly, thank you. This process of mediation is where our identity lies not in some fixed position hence our attachment to our ideas. I wander if, obviously in part, this is why I initially mistyped as an ENTP: I was very much defining myself by what I could DO in terms of 'logical skills set.' Hey ho, nice to know there's nothing innately wrong with me; I've often looked at ISFPs as a completely different species to myself & felt like a poor counterpart at times (yes for a proliferation of reasons including this one). I know you related this more so to people on the Ti-Fe axis but I can relate somewhat. I'm a divergent TiNi ENFJ for what it's worth; I'm wandering if the synthesis of novel ideas is where I draw inspiration for my NiFi archetypes. Obviously it's a wee bit more complex & nuanced than that - apologies I've just been on a 15 hour night shift & I'm now in pure vague abstract TiNi mode so my brain really is resisting going into the granular! I also have a heavy SiTi parallel network so the refinement process further consolidates my TiNi - this relates to your NiTi albeit the reverse process somewhat. Apologies I don't have your level of exactitude as INTPs but I hope you get the gist! I think this would still apply to Fe dominants as Fe acts at the behest of a Ti agenda & vice versa. I've never got the impression, at least as a divergent subtype that I'm acting out of necessity in terms of what I should do but rather what TiNi dictates. In that sense it's a very systematised way of engaging with reality. For me, at least, FeSe is a 'less fluid vehicle' with which to impart TiNi. I like your elucidation of a reactive mode Vs an experimental mode. Albeit less than an ISTP, as my TiNi is more convergent than a default ENFJ, I'm constantly 're-synthesising' my TiNi whilst my FeSe remains fairly static in conveying this at large. I guess the fluidity of one's axis also comes into the equation here as Fe doms tend to have the most fluid exist at least according to Harry's case studies. If someone asked me to define 'what I am' I'd probably laugh at them 😂, not because it's a bogus concept of course but rather is quite alien to me. I think this aspect of the ENFJ is very underrated anyhow as we tend to keep our abstract side quite private albeit behind the FeSe synchronicity belies a much more calculating and systemising interior as it pertains to all aspects of life. Indeed as an Ni authority type everything HAS to make sense. I asked Harry about this & he attested to the intensity of TINi.

      @@Tified967 well I am an infj probably one that operate similarly to the creator of cpt (sorry I don't know his name). What i am describing is the modern subjectivity. One that must work (or through some objective means) to express themselves and in a sense to self alienate themselves but can never be able to fully identify with their work. I see jungian typology as a way to classify modern subjectivity where each function axis deal with different strategies or perspectives to deal this inherent contradiction or tension of subject and object. (i believe this tension is inherent in Jung notion of introvert and extrovert) this contradiction is probably first taken to its extreme by the philosopher Hegel. That is why I see potential in typology as a way to describe fundamental types of subjectivity in the modern time.
      If you believe your subjectivity lies in the beyond and you can obtain through work. I think you are in ti-fe axis or ni-se axis. But you believe that your subjectivity is immediate but you must express them you are in fi-te or si-ne axis. Note that both attitude requires "meeting" of subjects and objects. I am still trying to work out the theories but I believe Heidegger examplify Si-ne perspective the best.
      For my exactitude it probably comes from the fact that I do a lot of "serious" mathematics when I was younger which consist of highly abstract theories and rigorous proof. I also start to read philosophy in recent years.

    If we're talking about the "personality/values dilemma" scheme, such as observing the world and people, then oneself, and attempting to create/adopt/imitate a personality or behaviors that would be both very comfortable to "be" and practical in the real world, and such a mechanism would have been present really from a very early age until now ("oh, this guy is serious and mature, that has such and such advantages, it's worth adopting such a system of behaviors... but on the other hand, that other guy's tactic of being carefree and sociable also works, is it better to be like this or that, what would bring me more comfort in behaving and benefits in life? Is it better to be interested in people or ignore them? It is better to be cold or emotional? What would be more comfortable?"), then what pairings/functions/types does this resemble?

    Would SiTi be the cognitive process of working out math equations in your head, rather than writing everything out on paper?

    • @four2896
      @four2896 Před 16 dny +1

      I've actually seen Si-Ti people write a great deal of their calculations on paper. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, that idea comes from CS Joseph, but I also think that he was confusing Te with thinking externally, i.e. writing your thoughts on a piece of paper in front of you. Supposedly Si-Ti lacks Te because it's a blindspot. But with the CPT model it does not seem clear to me why any function should be a blindspot...

      I'd say Fi agency there so NiFi - Fi is locked in to a specific role and destiny, there's little grandiosity there and all the power climbing serves a utility rather than individualistic self realisation e.g. Madara (FiNi-)

    • @icehuckyorkhawk7043
      @icehuckyorkhawk7043 Před 21 dnem +2

      In my experience, quite the opposite. The tendency of NiTi is to uncover approximate layouts for the solution to a given problem. It's not so much about optimizing the next step as in SiTi, but taking a step back and coming up with conjectures as to how the pieces all fit together. NiTi is able to see things SiTi can't and vice versa. These two pairings supplement each other quite well in academics, and both can lead to novel insights.
