Well, its just an option. The problem is whether a studio threw something together and tested is it playable by a person, not just the AI making impossible moves.
They were doing this in the 8-bit era but at least the option to play the game yourself was always there. There is a Soccer game on the Sega Master System called ''Tecmo World Cup 93'' it has an option on the title screen called ''WATCH'' where all you do is pick your team and the game does the rest for you. It's essentially just AI VS. AI.

Super smash bros on n64 did this in the 90s. You can literally watch the ai just play the game out without even playing.
By the way old RPG games had an auto battle option. Many games on ps1 had this.
They only attack though, you still had to select magic etc

That's not entirely correct. We had games that could hold their own as far back as Lunar Silverstar Story and Eternal Blue. The only thing they couldn't do is flee if I remember correctly.
@@Cyborg647 I'm literally playing through Tales of Phantasia the english translation and you can auto battle with magic and everthing. Tales of Destiny 1 is exactly the same as they both use the same game engine.

It's no worries man. You have to think how old these games are. Lunar Silver Star Story released here in the states in 1993. That was 31 freaking years ago. So yes, how dare you not know about a feature 31 years ago on a game you likely have never played! To the stockade with you! ;)
I use to work with someone who bought games to "collect" and watched CZcams playthru videos of them. Rarely actually played his games
I hate the direction gaming is going
I can see this backfiring by statistics showing which parts of games people use this technology to skip the most, and then essentially developers eventually either willingly or forcibly removing these parts from their future games entirely, having the unattended effect of lessening the gaming experience for everyone.
So Sony wants to essentially, ideally, make either a grinding bot or a universal 'Silver DK' mode that can get you past a certain point or show you move timing.
At that point just watch a movie.

Wasn't there an option on controller to invite a friend to join your game session and do a part of level you were struggling with?
This sounds same thing, but without needing an actual friend online at that moment.
So the AI can beat that boss level you can't, then hand gameplay back to ypu
It's already being done in the New Super Mario Bros games where you can ask the CPU to play the level.

I like it. As someone who's been gaming since the 70's, and has basil joint arthritis in both thumbs, and MS, I sometimes struggle with certain parts of games. I sort of see this as if you were gaming, with a friend, in the old days. Where if you got stuck, you'd pass the controller over and let them have a try at it. That's what I'm imaging this as. I don't think they'd force this on other's games. I suppose we'll either find out some day, or this will never come to fruition. -Matt
It depends on certain games in my opinion. I beat Red Dead Redemption 2 recently and the only ai assist that I was fine with was the cinematic horseback travel. Never considered using it until chapter 5 and I used it just to watch the landscape.
It might be fun for people that can't use their hands, or don't have hands to be able to play games. Maybe combining speech commands to guide the AI.

I played games in the past until a point like this came.

I remember doing this a couple times with sports games, I would make the CPU play against the CPU and just watch as if it were a real game on TV. It was fun to do a couple times but only a couple times and only with sports games. It makes no sense to do this with any game!
It's just like a car that drives itself, the feature is there, I just chose not to use it.

A lot of people also probably refund/resell games because they're frustrated for not being able to move past a certain point. On paper it sounds like an interesting idea, and as long as it's optional I don't really care about it. But in practice, I'm already predicting this will be an issue, because some developers will definitely use that as an excuse to care even less about balancing their games.

You could just watch a let's play on CZcams. You don't need a game to play itself for you. The only time i ever i something like that was for Dragon's Lair to see all the ways you could get game over. lol

Heck yeah this is great tbh. Lets say you get the coolest jet in Ace Combat 7 after you beat the game, but you have to fly utter crap first to beat the game. This AI stuff will beat the game for you, then you get to play it from the start with the best jet in the game. BRILLIANT MOVE by Sony. Next , AI needs to give us Mods on consoles. Even cooler jets you can fly from the first mission to the last, bypassing all the filler with a simple credit card entry.
what a nonsense that you have written, first: you don't get the strike wyvern by only beating the game, you need to buy one of last three aircrafts that are expensive, second : ace combat can causes motion sickness in some people , third: ace combat still a niche and you don't need strike wyvern, the ADF-Raven is the undisputed king of game.

People are going number and dumber every day, something governments want. I am not against AI, but it should get serious regulations. Overcomimg our daily difficulties is the thing that makes us human and helped us evolve. If we can achieve things that easy, we become soft, unproductive and uncreative, and worst of all, easier to manipulate.

I can safely say the only people besides Sony that think this is a great idea are game journos & lazy people (I refuse to call them gamers). There is a difference in helping those with disabilities, and just flat out cheating in a game which you know it'll be monetized by Sony. A game requires skill to play without it it's nothing more than a movie (or at least a interactive movie).

Oh, wow, on top of letting a game to play for you which you pay full price for:
1) you will also potentially own a license of a game and not the game itself
2) online only mode is becoming the norm
3) no co-op despite being typical to play on a large TV
This is not good.
The only plus is I guess it can be a way of showing us how to play but not be the player itself.

All need to understand the difference of the use of technology as a tool to help us to improve or achieve more possibilities than use it to replace something that we do, why not create AI trainer to help players to play better depending on the game and the player accessibility instead of the AI do all for us?

SONY should focus on making tighter, concise, agenda free games in the $50 price range with a focus on solid 60fps gameplay instead of junk like this.
