Cear Dragon here. I cant thank you enough. Liked and subscribed of course. People like you make all of the difference. A direct line of communication is opening up at Atari now about this. We'll see what happens. For everyone in the comments shitting on people for spending money on what they love, i dont know what to tell you, thats how the world works. Atari products (Atari Mania, Atari 50 for Switch, All the Atari Recharged games, etc), have been GREAT and the support has been great. This is a major exception but must be reconciled. Just so people know you could buy the 10 games together for 1,000 at the end of the box set run. Otherwise they originally released 2 games at a time over a very long period so you could spread the cost out. In hilarious fashion, they sold games 1 and 2 before even announcing the box art or the atari 50 collection. So a lot of people own this without the first two games!
@@ceardragon thanks for dropping in! My stance while I think the price is high, Im not gonna slam someone for spending their money how they want. We all have our things ya know, I have spent crazy money on things others criticized me for and meh whatever.. not everything is for everyone or has the same value or meaning for each of us. But regardless if I or anyone else thinks something is worth it or not, the company who sold the product needs to stand behind it and treat their customers with respect. I hope in the end this works out for you and others who bought these. Id of been pissed spending that kind of money!
Do you ship to the UK?
Cash Grab turns into theft/hussle.
My 40 and 50 year old Crystal Castles and Haunted Mansion work just fine
This atari is not The Atari. Most of these fools won’t even open it, they won’t know its broken. Hahah
Closest thing you’ll see to the real one. The real one is long gone.
This makes me think about that collectors set nentindo is putting out with the gold cart thats just a piece of plastic. I honestly thought about buying it til I found out the repo cart isn't a real cart. Lol
Most who bought will never open them and wouldn't even know if there was a problem. Luckily that one guy did and noticed
Im actually surprised that someone that bought this opened it to play the games.
That's me lol. Just bought Crystal Castles due to nostalgic history with the title.
EXACTLY....finally, a person who gets it.
Probably a lot of them went to scalpers.
It’s like mailing an Inverted Jenny lol
I'm shocked by that too. There's only 100 of them. It's a collector's item. Why are you opening it? It's not as if there's no way to play Atari 2600 games. lol
If I spent $1000 for this set I would be super pissed that any game wouldnt work. Atari needs to make this right !
why would they when there so many morons like these to give them Money
With all our advancements in the production of electronics this is outrageous that a major brand would do this.
I'm not buying it. I've seen unboxing videos where they've played Haunted House and Crystal Castles, no problem. And cannot find anyone else who's had an issue even though people have been getting them since at least February.
notAtari fix it pls
Hey, MLP. I have the set and covered each one as they arrived. I can't speak to Crystal Castles since I don't know the VCS version well (played it a bit for my review and it seemed fine), and I didn't have any backwards boards in my collection. Suggests that these problems are sporadic rather than systemic. Atari support on the problem, however, is inexcusable. I would be curious to learn more about in what way the OP felt Crystal Castles was unplayable: as unplayable as it was at release (thus accurately reproduced) or something with a modern defect.
Hey, I know you from a great FB group, and just watched your excellent US Games/Vidtec upload-great channel, keep it up!
Also, call me demented but I love that weird port of Crystal Castles for the 2600! Wonder what Mark Alpiger thinks about it. 🤔
Thanks, @@OriginalMasters. I've also reached out to the OP over on Twitter - I can't get any info about what's was wrong with CC. I did a video on each XP cart as it arrived and pointed out any problems I encountered, but nothing game-breaking (odd art choices, incorrect attribution, etc.)
@@GenXGrownUp Interesting. At any rate, hopefully there’s validity to this story. Or hopefully not!
From what I could tell GenX, this is the ONLY report of any problems. There are a few other articles about it, but they all refer to this single post. Meanwhile, yours (which I've seen) isn't the only unbox and try out video I've seen, with Haunted House playing just fine. Also, has anyone actually seen Atari's response? I mean, this video is only showing what that Twitter post SAID Atari's response was. I didn't see anywhere in the video where it actually showed an actual response from Atari.
@@MrBluesMessiah Same here. I had viewers in my comment section ask me to chime in and do a vid like this one in response, but I started my due diligence as a journalist and couldn't find any corroborating information outside of the referenced tweet. I even commented on the tweet itself to see if I could get more info from the OP, but nothing.
So this means they also didn't test these games?
A 50th anniversary release, a $1000 release... and it wasn't tested?
That's a lot of "We don't care about our customers" in one small package.
I'm sure they tested the games. They are working for other people. I think there's something fishy with the one guy on X claiming that they're bad.
One small overpriced package
It's another LRG example. They likely never thought anyone would actually OPEN this set to actually play the games. Never occurred to them that people may actually want to play games they spend $1k on. SMH
Right?! They’re like “woah woah woah, we’re just selling collectables here- we never meant for you to use them” haha
Too me, they sold this set as a unit which cost $1000. They should refund the set unit cost and have the buyer send the entire set back.
💯
I will play my real games on atari that I paid 10 bucks I am good
That Sucks BIG time... 1000 bucks to be treated like crap...
Thanks for casting light on this. Only chance that Atari does something depends on negative PR.
I'm feeling nostalgic for retro games. But I don't need everything from the past. But hey, it's their money and it's a sucker born every minute.
Thanks for bringing awareness to this. I hope the best for anyone who did purchase and wants to be excited about their passions and hobbies.
Today's Atari isn't Bushnell's Atari. Sadly.
If all it took was opening up a cartridge shell & flipping a PCB, I would do it & not complain.
They've had a limited run, so they can only refund.
People giving "Atari" $1000 are the same people buying Cybertrucks and then surprised when they brought overpriced junk.
More likely they’re speculating on the “investment on a limited edition” … if 100 are made, expect to see 95 on eBay soon 🤣🤣🤣
And DKOldies sells overpriced consoles, games and accessories. They’re junk if they don’t handle it well, maintain it well and clean the insides of the consoles and controllers. And if they don’t clean the insides of cartridges, replace the batteries in Pokémon Game Boy games and resurface the discs.
Show us on the doll where the Evil Rocket Man touched you
I hate Teslas, but the Cybertruck is different, it's a breath of fresh air in our current stale boring car market. I wish other car makers went in bold directions.
They are definitely slow in delivering a joystick
It’s like every day you realize for the first time that corporations are greedy
Its an easy fix the pcb is probably just placed upside down the only hassle is removing the sticker with hotair to reach the screw to open it.
This is crazy. I remember getting the email for this but wasn't willing to spend over $500 for this shelf queen. So glad I passed.
Price should match quality
This impacts more than 100 folks. The carts were offered individually first to make up the whole set. People who missed out were po'd so Atari made another 100 available as a set. I ordered individually and have the Crystal Castles issue.
Sue fake Atari - they need to change name back to Infogrames
This is ridiculous. These people do need to be reimbursed.
Okay on another note: Where did you get your glasses? I love them!
Atari - check yourself before you wreck yourself 🤭
Atari better check themselves before the riggidy wreck themselves.
LOL. You're so gullible.
Your mom’s gullible
@@wadeskelton7585 Maybe, but not even she is dumb enough to fall for one rando on Twitter when absolutely no one else has reported a problem and there are multiple unboxing videos actually showing Crystal Castles and Haunted House playing just fine.
They expected them to stay sealed and either never be played or flipped on ebay where warranty is no longer available.
When this happens happen glad I have my pc set up with tons of emulators the only money spend is on usb controllers to fit each system
$1000 lucky bag 😂
I am actually glad someone did open their games so this can be brought to light. I bet they banked on the fact of price/availability would cause most buyers to not test them out (open box). I suspect this was to save themselves the expense of quality assurance. This is bordering the line of being a straight scam.
If they only made 100 sets what was the point? Thats not enough net profit there to make it worth while. Most limited runs are like a thousand plus. Something stinks here.
They made more than a 100. They first sold each one individually threw LRG and people bought them there but some missed and wanted the collection so Atari made another 100 of the full collection and sold it themselves.
Ron, I got to thank you for bringing to my attention the toll that converts the Majora's Mask ROM to a PC port. I'm super excited about that technology and hopefully it can be enhanced to work with the entire library of games.
This story sucks for Atari Fans and collectors.
I wouldn't pay 1,000$ anyway on these old as me games. This a pure unnecessary purchase if you ask me over here.
Good thing no one asked you.
I pre-ordered Adventure as it's one of my all time favourite games. The website showed it having an all orange box and spine. When it finally turned up, it had that box you see in the set with the 'this will look great if you buy the other nine games'. Yeah, I just want the one thanks. At least it actually works, so thats a result! Absolutely inexcusable rhat they're not replacing the faulty carts. You've sold them at a big profit, use that money to fix the problem.
I got Fatal Run preordered for the 7800. It better work.
Thanks for sharing.
All for it to just sit on a shelf collecting dust.
I saw Cybermorph!!!
$1000 for such crappy games ? Blows my mind 🤯
Yeah, collecting crap for the sake of collecting is dumb. This stuff is just a cash-in to fleece the weak-minded IMO
Some people have way more money than common sense.
It'll look pretty cool sitting sealed on a shelf. That's what you're really paying for
What's inside any box? 100 dollars for just a cartridge of a 1bit game is a bit too much.
@@DioBrando-qr6ye yeah. The idea of paying for this much to actually play the games is kinda funny. You do have options
wonder who will be so stupid to buy this for that price
What I believe is ridiculous is someone spending $1000 on Atari game reproductions.
Do you know of a hdmi adaptor for super nintendo model 101, fir the one I bought isn't compatible with that super nintendo model, and from my research none are, si will I have to just get a av to hdmi converter then, cause that should work, but I was hopping fir a simple solution with less wires over all like the adaptor I bought, works great with my pikachu 64 and platinum gamecube
having such a high price ticket collectors item built so lazily and then just throwing your arms in the air like "oh well guess we goofed" and not trying to fix it is a slap in the face to consumers
Atari selling that for $1000 is downright criminal. Now $100 would've been more reasonable.
Just buy an Ultimate Arcade and add coin ops.
Yeah
My setup is now just one MAME machine, one virtual pinball table and a Switch OLED.
Best decision I ever made.
With all the shelf space I now have, I like to display statues and merch. So I actually do still support the industry and more than buying a game from a seller on ebay would.
No more faffing around with CRT TVs and stuff. I have all my retro games in one place now and they all just work.
I don't know what's a bigger joke, their quality control, or the $1000 price tag
Atari is a little before my time yet I have played most of the catalogue, my Dad had one. Everything about Atari has been surpassed, their consoles and games. And that's why I never played an Atari Classic ever again.
I've seen unboxing videos where they've literally PLAYED Haunted House. I can't find anyone else saying that they had issues. I'm calling BS.
Not shocking because this isn't even Atari anymore. It's some gold diggers that bought the company and could careless about the customers.
What an absolute joke. If idiots are willing to throw away money like this, let them.
Atari don’t give a fudge
Because it's not true.
in a perfect world, we would wake up to ATARI announcing a JAGUAR MINI that has every single jaguar game ever made, even the non published ones, along with the CD games, on one small console....they could ask for $299.99 for it and it would sell like hot cakes, imagine all the games work, the processor in it is faster than the original hardware, games run smooth.....wouldn[t that be a sweet dream ? and yes, same goes for a LYNX MINI....good lord, imagine that, with an OLED SCREEN and a huge battery with a type-c and all the games on it....dream ... just a dream.
All the games on it stuff can't happen even if a company really wanted to make it.
Many games on a system are third party that need licensing so they will need to pay for each license not including the nightmare of finding who owns what etc.
Many times you can't even find who has the license of something.
So basically they have to sell it for $3000 or more after licensing each game they can find and still missing some.
Why don't they do a compilation set of multiple volumes of all the Atari systems, even the Lynx and Jaguar. Yes, even the licensed games should be part of this, as I can see sales grow for this, than spending $1000.
They offer common games for extravagant prices...
This is some bs especially for 1,000 bucks ! I'm the biggest atari fan i saw it up but didn't even think once about buying this nonsense.
if you notice they didn't say 'full refund', just refund. I think thats speaks volumes.
No, that's just what the person claims they said. There's a big difference.
@@MrBluesMessiah no, its in the statement that Atari made and is shown in the video
@@Curryking32000 Still waiting for that time stamp. Can you confirm that the statement from Atari you claimed is in the video is NOT in the video?
@@MrBluesMessiah 3.20 and this is confirmed on the Atari official website where it says...
'Any new, unopened product can be returned for a refund within 30 days of delivery. Atari is not responsible for the shipping cost of returned items.'
Wow this sucks the ONLY game I got out the collection was Crystal Castles as that was my first game my folks ever got me. I hadn't opened mine because I still have my original. It's game room shelf nostalgia, now I guess I gotta open it so I can test. Hope I don't get burned and can return if need be...
My super console runs them all perfectly. ;)
Honesty at this point I don't think evrn being bought by EA would make Atari worse.
*ATARI have really stiffed it to their fans this time!?!* 👎
How do you **** up something like this when only 100 were produced?
I wish I got one!
If people are handing over $1k for retro reproductions like this they really need to give their heads a wobble.
Makes sense. These are state of the art brand new atari games with cutting edge graphics for 1978. There's just nothing they can do to fix it!! Nothing at all!!
Atari is not what it was when I was growing up in the 70s & 80s. Since they own the Stern games Berzerk & Frenzy they should have included them in the Atari 50 year anniversary.
Seems Elementary that they could mess up on a 1970s-80 tech unbelievable. years ago, one of my cousin's kids put A Atari 7800 cartridge in wrong into my 7800, the console never worked again. so hopefully they reversed PCB doesn't destroy anyone's game console
My first console was Super Pong. I get the nostalgia for the Atari 2600. I couldn't justify purchasing one of these sets, but I can understand those who do. Having said that, this is not right. Atari needs to do better. Thanks for calling this out!
I was surprised to find I wasn't already subscribed... My bad lol
I am with u this is some BS
Atari is no Powkitty.
You shouldn't open those! Didn't your mom say that you can't have nice things?
No Crystal Castles? Oh Hell no.
$1000 is crazy, I wouldn’t even pay $50😅
About to crash the market again!
this dosent suprise me from the state of atari brand is bunch of scammers
Woww.. just ridiculous. Definitely not buying anything from them in the future if this is the case. They need to fix this. Offer replacements. Wow. Just can't believe they are screwing people over that hard.
Non Functional Tokens lol
Isn't 1K a bit of a stretch?
How does this happen? It isn't like these were prototypes that were never put on PCBs. It's not like these games had questionable quality like Cheetahman 2. This is Crystal Castles. I played it on the VCS alnost 40 yesrs ago!
atari is just a nameplate now
Yeah I wouldn’t have opened them anyway so there’s that. If you have grand to drop on this set you must be something you can live with.
Let’s be honest here. People who purchase this item will probably never break the shrink wrap. 😂
This is the world gamers have sleep walked into. Scandalous outrage after Scandalous outrage from all the big games companies, and it ain't helped by gamers going back for more from these companies, being abused like a beaten dog. I love that you're bringing this to light. Games publishers are, by and large, SCUM.
Mankind's greatest achievement will be when we finally walk on the surface of the Moon.
No, it’ll be when we colonize it…
1000 dollars and sold out. What has this world come to?
This set (and price) is ridiculous.
Shame- Atari 50 was such a great, valuable collection. It was valuable because it gave you so much and cost so little. I guess they're right back to being terrible again.
Thank God i stayed away from it. It seemed overpriced to me.
I am sorry for those who actually bought it to play or because they love those games but i am laughing about those who bought it to flip it and now what they tried to make profit out of just lost value.
I think I sold all my atari games for 50 cents each or a little moreif i was lucky 😂 i dont miss them at all
Come again? $1000?! ... you do you, Boo
I could find at least a dozen better ways to spend that $1000 on games.
Some people just want to watch their wallet burn… 🔥
Atari aren't the only ones to do this, and that's why I never buy collectors editions anymore. Blizzard screwed over all the customers of their Burning Crusade collectors edition years ago, but not adding codes for the in-game pet and then requiring you to send off a piece of the collectors edition (not to be returned) to get it. So either choose to not get the in-game item you paid for, or get an incomplete collectors edition.
I never knew this set existed until I watched your video. It is poor customer service. The product should be returned and replaced
With working cartridges.
They made 100 of these, how could they screw this up? All Atari seen was $100,000 easy money.
retro gamers get taken advantage of so badly nowadays. makes collecting for the hobby really difficult.
why would you pay 1000 for older games its nuts to me. i would rather emulate the games myself but to each there own.
Does anyone come close to milking their ancient library of prodcuts as much as Atari? Their games have an outdated ever since the NES came out. Can everyone just move on from Atari and forget them forever?
The 2600 games were obsolete long before the Famicom released.
Warner Bros were the only reason Atari's engineers were prevented from upgrading the hardware years earlier.
This set is probably the biggest Retro Gaming ripoff that I've ever seen! Heck I thought it was a typo and it was supposed to be $99.99 but basically $1,000. That would be a hard pass for me... especially when, like you said, you could probably get most of these games for a few bucks a piece. Heck even as a collector's piece it is too much money just to have sitting on a shelf. Sure it may be a very limited set, at only 100 copies in existence, but it probably also has a very limited Market to sell to... especially at that asking price.
