My gynecologist always says white cotton panties are best. She said line drying them in the sun is best for killing any fungus/bacteria trying to make their home there. As a dental hygienist, I especially appreciated her recommendation of “Like your toothbrush, toss them every 3-4 months and get new ones.”
That's hella expensive tho. Underwear is literally the most expensive thing in all of wardrobes. $50 for two pairs of quality underwear.

@@i.8885 I throw undies away after maybe 2-5 -years when they get really shabby. I keep a few pairs aside for "good" and better ones in a suitcase ready for my next trip. When you're retired and on a fixed income, you don't play fast and loose with anything that costs money.

Emily Gladser this is in NYC in the early 1990’s, so when I went to this factory, it’s in a warehouse looking building. The workers would sew the clothes together and everything goes on the floor until they are finished with the batch. I saw a cat walking around and I’m assuming that the cat was there cause there’s probably rodents roaming around the warehouse so I’m pretty sure they crawled all over the clothes and no one would wash the clothing after it’s sewn and given to the retailers. I’m absolutely sure the conditions in other countries are much worst than in NYC where most clothing are made.
They‘re also usually sprayed with pesticides before they get shipped to retailers. You have to let out the air for some time before People can safely handle them (there had been some severe health problems before but I can‘t remember what exactly)

There are two main reasons for wearing underwear. First is to keep your outer-clothes clean as you would often re-wear outer-wear clothes multiple times throughout the week as washing clothes was an allday event. The second is as foundation garments, meaning they aid in the fit and look of the outer-clothes.

That's still just two holes. It's homeomorphic to two single pipes, i.e. you can perform small continuous transforms on an object with two separate pipes in it to create the topology of boxer shorts.
An opening and a hole is not the same thing. You need to take a math class to study some topology. Even if there is an opening for the abdomen and openings for the legs, there are still only two holes. Here's another data point for your survey! I am a 34 year old woman, and I only buy briefs. Not only that, I am extremely picky about them! I get a specific brand and fabric (Fruit of the Loom, 50% cotton/polyester), because that is the only way I feel comfortable. The reason behind this is that I'm autistic, and have mild tactile sensitivity (most mild of my various sensory sensitivities). This limits my options for fabrics, as some feel really scratchy. I have tried bikini style and high cut style before, but those styles cause noticeably more discomfort than the briefs and I find myself adjusting them a lot more than normal in a vain attempt to alleviate that discomfort.
Very informative, I especially appreciate what you said about contact dermatitis. I live in a tropical area, learned that it's very common to get a rash because of extreme heat, plus the polyblend underwear. Thank you!

Going commando isn’t that bad actually. I stopped wearing panties a couple years ago for no other reason than just for the heck of it. Hygienic wise, there’s really no difference for me. I don’t have any chaffing, or discomfort from friction either. It’s super convenient not to have that extra layer under many circumstances too. The only exception I wear underwear now is if I’m wearing skirts or dresses that are above the knee in length… for obvious reasons. It may not be for everyone, but hey, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!
So, you wash your slacks/jeans and longer skirts/dresses with every wearing then. If you don't, ew. Also, not too good for the environment with all that detergent going into the wastewater.

I prefer cotton as my choice of fabric. The polyester/synthetic fibers have a chaffing effect on my skin. They also don't absorb moisture very well so it gets uncomfortable after a 12 hour work day.
I'm like the black woman in a red dress: regular panties for everyday use, stylish panties for special occasions. There's a third category, though: period panties.
No exercise underwear? Maybe it's just me, but there's no way I'd sacrifice my comfy period underwear to exercise, and using the regular sort just guarantees a wedgie that will attempt to cut you in half.

That bit about using mild/hypoallergenic detergents is something I’ll never not do. When I was little ALL of my clothes that were washed with harsher detergents made my skin dry or irritated.

My husband is allergic to polyester and usually this is not a problem, he loves denim. He herniated his belly and was recommended this spandex tank top to assist. While in the ER with a massive allergic reaction we discovered the "spandex" was part polyester. I will never get him out of denim now.

Boxer briefs, light green, and cotton I believe. I have super sensitive skin and allergies, aswell as having sensory sensitivities, so most of my clothes are pretty high percentage cotton
I hate the limited options for women’s underwear as far as the cut of the fabric, I know this didn’t focus much on the history of undergarments but there is so much more info out there and a nice long bloomers style undergarment is so much more comfortable, bit more snug to fit modern clothing styles so more like boxer briefs for girls which I have rarely seen and then for some reason the length is way shorter when they make them for girls.

We have granny panties which are just as comfortable as boxer briefs. I wore bloomers when I was a little girl with my lisle stockings to cover the space between the top of the stockings and the edge of the panty, which the bloomers did.

Wow, that is a fascinating video and explanation. Although I knew most of it. I love underwear and my preference is always cotton or a mix of cotton and polyester. I do love boxer briefs the most, but I also have a good amount of briefs. In total, I would say I have around 250 pairs of undies. Including really confi long johns for the cold winter in CT.

I think it isn't necessarily taboo, it's weird, but I imagine that most people given the right context are going to be completely fine if they are asked by a stranger about their underwear habits.

I know one of the things I have heard is that boxers can lead to Testicular torsion, which surprisingly wasnt addressed in the video. I am curious how true this is and how common it is for it to actually occur? I personally like boxer briefs but only own like 3 pair and about 40 pair of boxers... lol

The tips at the end - I've always done them all. I also have always preferred cotton, as it feels good on my skin, and I've never worn thongs or g-strings or bikini panties. I like good coverage. haha
I do, though, always make sure that the underwear I put on is clean and in good shape, as I was taught. It just feels better as well.
I believe that my underwear choices have helped to keep me from getting certain things that can happen down below, especially UTIs and yeast infections.

This is why I wear briefs and have recently discovered that low-cut brief(lower than briefs but still higher than boyshorts and hipsters) are a thing and I love them because they aren't taller than my pants.

I have changed from bikini to boxer briefs. I am very old and take a long time to adjust to anything. I freestyle anytime I can. Boxer briefs seem to offer the protection I need from chaffing during routine running, biking, hiking...
