Over 80 Million Made To Bankrupt!!! What Happened To LARRY JOHNSON'S Career?
Vložit
- čas přidán 22. 05. 2024
- Larry Johnson to some was the first Zion Williamson. In college he dominated the competition, winning a national championship. Although many including Nike didn't think he would be a good pro because of his size, his game translated perfectly until his growth was stunted. Along with that, at some point he allegedly lost over 80 million!!! and filed for Bankruptcy. Here's what happened and the lesson to be learned for young hoopers.

@@stuntedgrowth Why are we so quick to blast black athletes and call them “broke” when they file for bankruptcy which LJ is far from broke. But when Trump does it it’s a smart business move?
@@xennialvsmillennialsxxx5225 Trump is a certified businessman who knows a lot more how bankruptcy works and how to use it strategically.
And athlete with no finance or accounting background doesn’t know those things. Also, it isn’t common for athletes to bounce back after filing bankruptcy like businessmen (like Trump) can
Stop making this a race issue or an anti-Trump issue. Trump isn’t in office anymore, let that hate go
He was never the same after that back injury, but redeveloped himself as a 3 shooter for NY. Respect.

No cap brov!
Sho ya right
LJ suffering that back injury really slowed him down at the prime of his career
No doubt
@Kieran Dowd He adjusted his game really well after injuries. He played an “old mans game” after losing his speed and athleticism.
@@BrooklynBalla just commented on that.
Back issues are lifetime, the team should’ve had a better trainer, perhaps that may have worked for the time being
@DMalltheway sometimes nothing can be done. It ended Larry Bird's career too
Lj made that Teal colored jerseys cool.
LJ was the star but Alonzo Mourning was the heart and soul of that team...
@@Hallstyle LJ, Zo and Mugsy. Even early on when Charlotte had Kendall Gill and Dell Curry they were such an exciting team to watch in the 90's. They didn't win a whole lot, but they were fun to see
Not from a die hard Pistons fan 😂 those were our worst years outside of the Grant Hill show
I have one still
FACTS
He was born in Tyler, but he went to high school in Dallas. He bought all the DISD schools new hoops, around 93-94. No matter where you played in the city you saw his logo. He's a Dallas legend.
I had the jersey, the hat, the sneakers, the posters, all the best cards and for years tried to find a fake gold tooth. He was a monster in college (oh yeah I had the UNLV gear too). Made me follow a crap bag Charlotte team in 91-92. He was the Zion of my youth. Then his back went, only a few seasons into his career and he was never the same. Lost his amazing spring and became a non rebounding jump shooter. This is the guy who jumpstarted my NBA obsession and I've never stopped asking "What If?"
Dam bro. I was exactly the same. LJ was the guy that made me fall in love with the game. He's still one of my favourite players ever just for thst reason. I even secretly preferred all my friends Jordans at the time but still rocked Aeroglides 😁
The Zion Williamson of the 90's. A 6'7" powerforward during the era of the Land of the Giants... no small ball back then.
Zion more explosive and vs a smaller era
@@diegochavez6203 you need to go back to his unlv n hornets days bruh
@@diegochavez6203Zion wasn't "more explosive" before LJ's back injury! Not even a lil bit! 😏
Loved Larry Johnson. I think him & Alonzo should’ve worked together instead of the paid day with the Miami Heat. He had that jump out the gym game. As a kid I loved it but I also knew it would slow him down. 6’7 at the NBA PF & sometimes facing 7 footers on a nightly basis. That back injury did it but he still hit the biggest shot in New York Knicks history.
Jealousy caused that breakup between Zo and LJ. Zo was never going to stay with Charlotte with LJ on the team being the highest paid he just signed the 12 year contract. He also knew his back was done.
Wouldn't have made a difference because LJ's body was broken down from all those high flying dunks. He wasn't a superstar anymore, just a good player and soon to be a role player, that's why Charlotte traded him. I loved LJ too, I'm Vegas born and raised and thought he would be a superstar, too bad that didn't happen.
By far that UNLV squad was the best I’ve ever seen. My all time fav!!!
I have a certified autographed Larry Johnson basketball card I pulled from a pack of Fleer card back in the early 1990's. Still in mint condition!! 🏀
See what u can get in a auction. A man got some millions for a ticket to Jordan debut game.
Brother I would never sell that if I was you I would keep it I used to have a Larry Johnson refractor I don't know if you guys remember those I think tops made them I could be wrong I can't remember but they were like a big deal and I just remember like when I got that I was so ecstatic I had a book that was nothing but Larry Johnson cards and I think I had a total of 75 I even had some of his unLV cards and one from Odessa
@@beebodavis931 That's Live!! Yes, I remember the Refractor cards!
@@clharris7211 I'm not surprised that is smart to keep things like that.
That is awesome brother. I’m from Charlotte and remember all the hype and he was the hype. Keep it brother it will be worth it. He is still one of our number one jerseys sold to this day.
If you knew where LJ was from.... you would totally understand his toughness and attitude. Skyline high school and that part of Dallas is no joke. I remember watching him during March Madness and just being mesmerized by his size and athleticism. Was such a huge fan of his. That Charlotte Hornets blue hoodie and purple jersey were the shit!! Hahaha
S.o.c was worser
@@timwalker1429 What?
I am alumni of his high school skyline except I graduated way way after he did (about 20 years later).Skyline high school is a magnet school .....but yes it is hood as well lol. He and Michael Johnson (Olympic gold medalist who also graduated from there) Are still celebrated and look highly upon today.
@@Boss3Nate South Oak Cliff high school. Another very tough and hood high school in Dallas.
@@Lightdion yeah I here ya bro... I live in Oak Cliff.. LJ is like 10 years older than me. I remember his whole career
LJ is probably the only Black male celebrity who wore a dress without anyone questioning his masculinity
And on that note, that back injury robbed him, and us, of his greatness; a freak accident that happened during a celebrity pick-up game
Money was easily on his way to the Hall of Fame based on his first two years in the league

The back injury shortened his career

Larry is NOT Broke.. also you did not mentioned Larry tore down the Ghetto he grew up in.. in his own words 'No one is going to grow up in this mess like i did'... he built a community center over it... Larry, just like most athletes have too many baby mama's...
These thots will damage a man
Like most athletes? So you're saying more that half of NBA players have 5 kids with 4 different women? That's a ridiculous statement.

@@greggallucci607 that is fact... they talk about in the late 90s in a article in ESPN. There where a lot of players who have a lot of children in different states. Most of them are not big time star players. They actually have a name for it they call it the drak secret or something of the NBA.

The 1992-93 Charlotte Hornets will always be one of my favorite teams. The one dark memory of that season was the first round playoffs against Boston. Since Reggie Lewis just straight collapsed in the floor. Twenty seven years later and I’ve still never seen someone so helpless. I feel like a lot of careers went downhill after that series. And poor Reggie Lewis passed away later that spring/summer.
I still can't watch that game clip until this day 😪.

Stop calling people broke when you've never looked at their bank account.
Well when someone files for BANKruptcy that's normally what that means LOL.. Now yes it doesn't mean you have NO MONEY but it means you OWE More then you make or have... That's the definition of BROKE.. LOL
People upset they haven't done shit with their own lives and feel the need to celebrate someone hard times who's doing more and made more bread$🤑then they will ever have. That to me is a definition of a true (POS) waste of sperm.
You must be broke if u took this personal.
@1-800-Wavy You do care! I know exactly how you work pressed👍going crazy.
Don’t forget child support that he paid left and right
Larry was a beast pure savage
The Running Rebels were bananas
By the time he got to my Knicks his role diminished
Back when My dad gave me season tickets
Hate he put that dress on but they did the same to Ricky William's it hurt

Larry was my favorite player in the 90's. The Hornets was my team. When he left Charlotte to go to New York I became a Knicks fan. I remember those Ok nicks and Heat battles in the playoffs. The 90's Knicks were nice - Houston, Oakley, Ward, Ewing, Sprewell, Camby,!!

Prime Johnson was a beast..Probably top 5 forwards in the league for 4 years. 6'7 250..Sad he got back issues.
Anyone that has back issues are basically a death sentence look at Dwight Howard same thing happen even tho he ain’t retire he just lost so much he had when he was dpoy and mvp candidate
With all the trainers and technology he would have dominated if he would play in this era !
Easily
I still have a LJ jersey that I bought in 1992, when I attended a Charlotte game on a weekend pass while stationed at Fort Jackson.
Ok!! You have to!! Kenny Battle and Anderson Hunt
Still funny how he got stuck doing that Grandmama commercial. He signed that contract thinking he wasn't about to dress up as a Grandmother just to get tricked 😭
Lol That’s a fact. They got him good. Or he got himself not reading the fine print that said “hey black man, you’re too aggressive, let’s put this here dress on you”! Worked out though. I never looked at him as soft because of it, and it created a legendary character. Salute ma man💯
Another solid "Burner"! @Stunted Growth, these clips should be viewed by all junior highschool participants... particularly our pre-teen males. It would, in my opinion, dissuade errant behavior and gross misconceptions about what "true success" looks like on and off the basketball courts. Excellent narration sir. Well thought out orations both metaphorically as well as socially! Keep doing what you doing!!! ✌🏼
He said broke may be wealthy to Tyrone Biggums.

I’m binge watching all these episodes on the road I appreciate you man🔥💯
When you have that kind of money you have to be careful who you have kids with. THATS HIS FAULT. You know everyone wants the bag.
Exactly.. The OGs in the league should have schooled him on the lot lizards and hotel hoes that follow the guys around the country trying to get pregnant..
What's with this chasing the bag🤑and they got the nerve to call this guy broke.
And too be honest. If he is not getting money like that anymore he can change the child support payments
Very informative story. Thank you, JC! One of my favorite players of all time!
Love you vids so much dude. Appreciate your craft for this!
That opening LJ dunk on NBA inside stuff and react juice was a big part of my childhood. Loved LJ and then the 4 point play in the playoffs immortalized him as a Knicks legend
Great Piece. Imo, injuries were his only stunt. That one stunt dictated everything that came after. I dont believe his personal life should've been included in the piece but that tells me that outside of injury he wouldve had a longer career.
Easily the most underrated basketball channel on CZcams by far
Thanks JC . One of my favorite players coming up in those days. Makes me think do u remember Brandon Triche out of Syracuse. His game in college was nice.
He lost weight when traded to NY and carried the knicks that whole series vs Indiana. The injury did happen in Detroit but it was in a charity game. He was also NCAA player of the year in almost every publication. Nice video you just short changed the man a bit.
I’ve always believe that ‘91-92’ UNLV team got paid to lose against Duke in the Final4. Somebody threw the game away, I’ve watch that game countless times.
Your channel is becoming my guilty pleasure I watched so many videos I lost count.

Another excellent upload. Could you cover the story of Korleone Young?
Your channel is solid dude...damm solid.
once again awesome content. Very understated but significant point about jumping ability and injury durability. Zion is a Phenom but what would happen if he suffered Grandmama or Larry Legend type back problems?
My favorite player!! Thanks for the video!!
This strong brute was a complete MONSTER!!!!!! Grandma Ma was a force to be reconed with in the game of Basketball. His strength stood out about him playing and he always overpowered his opponent. To this day I remember his spinning move around defenders scoreing was overwhelming. I loved Larry Johnson. He was my favorite college player and had such an amazeing career at UNLV. What really happend to him behind closed doors is the question.
He was the first Madea I completely forgot 🤦

80 m? My whole family line from here to eternity wouldnt struggle for a dime after the investments and passive income i create.
He had a very rare infectiuos charisma maybe only matched by Magic. He was already a basketball legend from college and his early NBA career but that 4point play Knicks shot made him basketball immortal!
Great video. The LJ -Zion comparison is spot on. Very similar play styles
Him and Zo were two of my favourite players when I first started following b/ball.
Grandmama is gonna need that social security money.
Do NBA Players even contribute ?
lmfao
My favorite ncaa player of all time!! Got to meet him in 1991 in reunion arena in Dallas vs the bulls game. He sat right behind me on the floor level with his agent. Took some pics with him n also gave me his autograph. Thanks LJ for the best time of my life. Btw Jordan had 43 points with 3 dunks n the bulls won the game with the John Paxsons buzzer beater
Grandmama was the BEST!!! I loved him in character as Grandmama especially that grin and the gold tooth. Lol. He was a Great Player too.
Love your videos my guy! Please explain to me why so many of your videos have being traded to my Knicks as being a “Stunt” 🤣🤣
Starting to feel some kinda way about that!

Man I was fortunate to see and be around the great Rebel teams of the 80’s & 90’s!!!
Larry Johnson was the man in Vegas
My favorite player on the Rebels next to Eldridge Hudson from the 80’s team
Where did you even find that Odessa JUCO footage!!! That’s impressive… I’ve never seen that before!!!
A Stacey Augmon (stunted growth) would be so great!!! He’s my favorite player all-time…
Good video, appreciate it,yeah he was a ballaholic early in his career
Had a Pair of Larry'sCons Aero-Glide! The ones with the lace cover!...Still one of the coolest blooming shoes I've ever seen 🔥
Larry Johnson was that ninja at unlv also, that back injury hurt his game though. Anderson hunt was that nikka he punished bobby Hurley in the championship game back in the day.
Wow brother that was one of the most nostalgic videos I've ever seen in my life Larry Johnson was my favorite player growing up he still is I love those old Charlotte hornets I think it would be cool if you could do one about Kendall Gil because he was also nothing he had a bad career but you know I think he was like a fourth overall fifth overall draft pick and after he left Charlotte he just didn't exactly besides like that one year in New Jersey but that team sucked but anyway man great video just wanted to say that man thank you for that like that was just amazing I'm really appreciative for that you have no idea what that did for me
Thanks for the video! We'll done!
3 hours in im hooked
5:40 I think that kid has a bright future ahead of him
Ik this is late reply but is that dell curry and Steph?
Rodney Rodgers is more comparable to Zion .however LJ was a fucking Beast before the back injurie.overall he was a thoroughbred so eventhough he lost his hops he still had game and good midpost moves and good foot work.
Rodney Rogers (Rodgers?) didn’t have that kind of bounce and converted to a shooter early in his career.
@@swpdisciple google his college dunks and highlights. He did a 360 windmill in the open court. But about time he got to the nba he'd already put on all kinda of weight and in the older footage he kinda looked goofy but he had a soft stroke from outside the 3point arc but wasnt doing that NBA jam shit after his rookie season but he was a active role player Zion more of a set shooter unproven with crazy hype and bounce we shall see how he pan out
Haha Zion vs Rodney Rogers? Seriously? Rogers is closer in talent to Mister Rogers than he is to Zion. And I hear Mister Rogers had some game back in the neighborhood.
Zion is a more athletic pre-back injury LJ
I loved Rodney Rodgers but he had a much more all around game then Zion or LJ in my opinion... But Rodney had no where near the level of Athleticism that Zion or LJ had...
A team or program segment of Stunted Growth would be pretty cool. Like Fab Five Michigan, UNLV, Couch Cal Memphis etc...
L J is My All Time Favorite Player.
Since UNLV when I was 9.
My All Time Favorite Player pulled up to me and asked me for directions as I was walking out of a corner store in Vegas called Rainbow Market on The East Side, when I was 30yo.
I was like “ Yoooo .... LJ’s in The Hood , Son! “ and everyone in his Rover started busting out lol
My Dude asked me for directions to Rancho HighSchool because they held The AAU Tournament there 1yr while The Tarkanian Academy Center was being remodeled.

@Stuntedgrowth please do a video on #12 Anderson Hunt on that UNLV team. He was my favorite player on that squad.
Larry Johnson was one of the toughest NBA players ever, every time i saw him he look like he was ready for a fight. He definitely would have been a great boxer or wrestler.
What ever happened to the kid LJ was talking to in 5:40? Lmao j/k
Larry Johnson....Grandmama!!!🏀🏀 I 1st heard about him when i was in the Navy when he was one of the top JUCO players in the country. I had just got out of the Navy(1989) when UNLV won the national championship(1990) and the Rebels didnt lose another game until the 1991 final four.
Born and raised in Charlotte NC and watching this city grow especially when we got an NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets were all the rage! Larry Johnson, Alonzo Morning, Muggsy Bouges, Kendall Gill and Dell Curry were so popular in Charlotte but times change and I believe that the Charlotte Hornets have never been as popular and loved like they were back then.
Facts brother!!! I’m a charlottean also and grew up with season tickets in the 90s I remember when the score board fell. We were a beast then because of LJ and the team I hated George shin for taking our team . But now MJ won’t get us the right team.

UNLV stunted growth as a program was UNLV president forcing Coach Tark out in 1992. They went 26-2 in 1992 and won their last 23 games in a row. Tark said in his book that he had Jason Kidd, Jalen Rose, Glen Robinson, and others.
One of my faves growing up. Even bought his signature cons

@Klips Jericho exactly... I never even seen f*cling space jam. I was like 17 or 18 when that $hit came out. All these grown ups these days talking about their first encounter with the NBA being through Space Jam. It's also part of the reason the Michael Jordan mythology is still so strong even though most of these ppl are too young to remember the NBA landscape at the time.

Winning The NCAA Championship, then going undefeated until The Final 4 the following season as Defending Champs, next being The #1 Overall Draft Pick in The NBA , to hitting The 4 Point Play that sent The Knicks to The NBA Finals and being able to hit that outside shot after hurting his back & losing a lot of his bounce that let him play PF down low under the boards @ 6’4” & 1/2.
