Having grown up playing basketball in Indiana, Shawn Kemp is the best I've ever played against in high school. His athleticism for a 6'9" kid back in 1987 was simply on another level than everyone else. Shawn Kemp is also the oldest looking high school guy I stepped on the court with!! He's only 2 years older but it sure looked more like 15 or 20. When he committed to UK a lot of Hoosier purists were highly unhappy he'd leave the state back then. That probably cost him being Mr Basketball, no discredit to Woody Austin who was phenomenal at Richmond H.S. & Purdue. I know things happen for a reason, but I wonder if things might have been different if he had some structure at a college program for a year or two.

Dude got lied on in the scandal in college. That’s messed up. In that class, he would’ve been a top 5 pick in that draft in he played at Kentucky or even at that junior college in TX. He lost millions of dollars. Seattle fucked him over too. Funny how they tell you it’s business when they trade you but when it’s the other way around, he’s Problematic/ drugs. Smh Kemp was the type of player that was loyal, probably should retired a Sonic. I remember reading a article in the SLAM magazine about him. Talked about his drug (coke/achool) problem. Hurt my heart seen my guy like that mane. He had gotten so big, as a kid I remember saying like, his body is too big, he not they same player. If he had continued to keep his body right, plus without the substance abuse issues, we talking about a guy that would’ve been a Hall of fame.

I really loved Kemp, he was my absolute favourite when I was a kid, he is a typical "bad guy" character, unfortunately that lifestyle of too much Pepsi and the girls, ground him up..regardless, he always remains a legend!

30 For 30 did a special on NBA, NFL and MLB players and how they go broke, its a real eye opener. It was on CZcams, might have to look at it. Shawn was my favorite PF. He'll always be in my Top 5 (for that position) him and GP was so close he was in GP wedding. Even though he sucked in Cleveland he still made the All-Star team. Sad to see him decline like he did. Seattle should've did him better than that, but its all business at the end of the day. So that's probably on a bigger scale as to why they wanted to let him go. Had he kept in shape he could've stayed as great a player as he became. Him and GP still the best ally's in NBA History. IMO.

Solid shooter, athletic power dunker, solid defender. Sky was the limit for him. Threw it all away with the usual substance (alcohol/drugs). That’s the devil, it always wants to dance. 💃 😈
