- Today I'm reviewing one of the game adaptations of Aladdin - this one is for Sega Genesis, can is completely different than the SNES version. Why didn't I think of this closer to when the new movie was released? That's a good question.
#Aladdin #SegaGenesis #platformer
Aladdin was played on a Retron5 and recorded on a AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus. All music comes from the game soundtrack.

Those virgin Disney games were BRUTAL, but they were so well made. Great review!
Thanks!

But the Chad-Capcom Disney games was better... 🎵Ba Dum Tss🎵😜
I loved the Lion King game
1999 Mightythearmadillo me too! I probably played that the most!
I loved this game, so many memories. It looked amazing graphically
Just picked this up last week and had some of the same thoughts. Every now and then I’d catch myself humming along to the familiar Disney music. I only made it to the Cave of Wonders on my first attempt. Want to get through it this week. Good review.
I remember this became one of my favorite Genesis platformer games when I was like 13 or 14 and I'm 40 now and it's still possibly my number 1 on the system and that's saying lots, obviously.☺️ Great vid!❤️
I used to rent this game all the time when I was a kid and I finally beat it last year sometime. I agree with everything you've said here, especially the stuff about the final fight.
I had a really rough time with phase 1 of Jafar until I saw everyone using the far away strategy in longplays.
@@Cannotbetamed1 unfonturable ITI IS EXTREME TOUGH! I CAN NOT TO PLAY ANY MORE!
It truly is a great game. I have a specific fond memory of the first time seeing the game on screen. I was in Disney World a month or two before it was released and they had it on display at one of their kiosks in Epcot Center or MGM studios (I do not remember which one). It blew my teenage mind back then. It looked, sounded and animated so good especially when compared to contemporary games on the Genesis. The developers really knew how to animate and to make the most of the Genesis' hardware. It still looks good today! I'm happy you reviewed it. Thanks!
The animations really is great. Glad you liked the video!
I had this as a kid and loved it. Definitely a must play for Sega Genesis fans.
Probably one of the best reviews I ever seen about Aladdin video game 😊❤
Thanks 😊
My favorite Genesis game. Love the way they adapted this into a fun beautiful game as a kid.
Yes, it's a really great adaptation.
I like both versions of the game, but the Genesis one is my favorite. The Game Gear/Master System version never gets a lot attention, though. It's pretty solid as well if you ask me.
And what"s the difference between them if I you may say?
My younger brother and I rented this quite a few times when we were young. Also played a whole lot of The Lion King on Genesis too.
Thank you for the nostalgia ma'am. Excellent review as always.
Recently played this on my genesis. Love the classic platformers. Thanks for the great content! Keep up the good work.
Hands down one of my top 3 favorite Disney games on Genesis. Another great review Pam! Keep up the good work! I love your channel and the feel of it, is rather retro. It has a 90's vibe. I dig it!!!!
Whenever I fire up the old retropie, Aladdin is usually one of the Genesis games I get around to playing. Love those tunes!
The soundtrack is great! Even the original stuff
Thanks for the review. I might pick it up when it is released.
Loved this review almost as much as I loved this game as a kid! And bats... those darned bats. Looking forward to more reviews from you!
:)
I like this one more than the SNES version, but both are excellent.
Agreed I remember playing this Sega genesis game my neighbor had it with his genesis I was 10 in 1994 fun game😊
Gods, I remember this. My mom had this friend with two daughters who played this and watched sailor moon all the time. Loved every minute of it. I remember punching in all the codes to get to specific levels. My favorite was the carpet ride in the clouds. Although, they had it on the SNES.
Fact is most people when they were younger only had a Genesis OR SNES...not both. So even though we can look back in hind sight and make judgement now on quality or animation...a persons fav will forever be tied to their childhood of which one they owned.
One of my favorite games for Genesis. The graphics and soundtrack are amazing.
My introduction to Aladdin as a whole was from the DOS version (port of the Genesis version). I remember crying out of joy when I nailed a jump, because as a kid, I was bad at games.
I have no preference for SNES or Genesis. Both are great.
Great review, as always.
Thanks!
Nice review! I never played this as a kid, but I did as an adult and thought it was fun. I loved the movie as a kid. Fun to see this video!
Hey great review
I love this game as a kid👍❤
This brings back memories
This game was well-regarded back in the day, particularly for its animation.
I forgot just how well-animated this game is.
I know it's obscure but you should play Garfield: Caught in the Act. It's a really good game with beautiful sprites.
Love that game😊
@@mikesilva3868 Same! My favorite level was Catsablanca
@@bignewsmorgans6114 mine too 🍩
I grew up with the SNES version but never got very far in it. This is a really good review! I’m glad you covered it.
Thanks!
I honestly think the Mega Drive/Genesis version is one of the best platformers ever. I loved it back in the day and I still play it every year or so. Nice graphics, tight controls, good level design (for the most part), and a challenging default (normal) difficulty that is neither too easy nor too tough. Nice review.
Thanks!
Top 10 game for the Genesis for sure! Such a fun soundtrack, good job playing the music in the background.
This game was also ported to Amiga and PC. The computer ports are imho superior; they have sample-based sound tracks and the life bar is Genie himself, making a variety of facial expressions. I also think they have more frames of animation. All versions feature animation from Disney animators themselves which is part of why it looks so damn good.
I absolutely love this game! It was the game that changed my mind about games based on movies. 🤪
The good old 90's my favorite was oddly the snes version
Disney Games came with it. Loved the 8 bit Capcom Disney games. But the 16 bit era Disney games were also done well. Lion King on Genesis was dope too.
@@jacobprice8048 Agreed
The best thing about this review is how much you love the Aladdin movie :) I think we'd have to wait another generation until we got a truly satisfying movie-to-game with GoldenEye on the N64.
I think the Dune adaptation on Sega CD was pretty great.
Always enjoy when you tackle the retro platforming stuff. Yeah, a lot of Genesis games allowed you to change the button layout so if something didn't work for you, you could just change it. Definitely a big perk. Few titles on SNES did the same.
Button remapping is such a great feature, I'm always pleasantly surprised when I find it in older games.
As you know I watch all my CZcams videos on my TV so leaving a comment means I have to open an app on my iPad, iPhone or iMac (which is an extra step that I typically won't take) to write one. I enjoyed this review so much that I took a break from my non-stop FE3H playing to say thanks for the consistently good content. Keep up the great work, I gotta go make some tea >
Well thank you for taking the time. Are you taking about real tea or a FE tea party?
Cannot be Tamed I think you know lol #BlackEagles
I only played the snes version growing up. because I never owned a genesis as a kid. Now I got both versions on emulator. No contest, their both great in their own way.
still one of my favourite games and from one of my favourite movies love Aladdin
I remember playing it on DOS PC back in my school days. First it was demo & then the full game, it was really hard though.
This game looks and sounds so good. Glad to see you review this one, Pam.
Thanks!
I just discovered your channel 😁. Thank you for making great content that we can all enjoy. I also shared this video to a You Tube group that I am a part of!
Thanks, and welcome to the channel :)
I used to LOVE this game! Excellent and thorough review!
Thanks!
I haven't played this, mainly cuz I'm not a Disney fan, but this looks pretty good. I have the SNES one. Haven't played that one either.
I know I played one of them as a kid, over at a friend's house... I have no idea which one it was though.
One of the best games which pushed the limits on Genesis.
4:37 Smooth review, I still remember the secret of mickey ears hat.🤠
I found this game at a retro shop and had to get it back in my collection! Great review!!!
This has a very late 00s classic game review vibe to it and I kinda like it
Terrific review once again, Pam! I have a ton of memories with this one as a kid, and this brought them flooding back. Thanks for putting this one together ☺️
Glad you enjoyed!
Hi, Pam. This game, OMG! One of the games I rented most in my life (here in Brazil the games were (is still actually) expensive and the solution was to rent). Great review!
Thanks!
Yay! I was bummed this disappeared. I look forward to watching this when I get home!
Yeah, had a copyright issue with music and needed to edit it a bit.
Oh, that flying carpet level! I managed to beat it when it came out, somehow. If you've never played the Genesis Shadowrun, its impressive. I also recommend Shinobi 3 ,a perfect conclusion to that original series
I'm so glad they re-released this for PS4
Great vid. I never played the Genesis version (never owned a Genesis) but I enjoyed the SNES version a lot. I always found it interesting how they were pretty much two entirely different games instead of just the same game ported to both consoles.
Really need to get around to checking this one out someday.
The genesis version is better if it helps motivate you
One of my personal favourites as a child and now 😊🤘🤘🤘
Ahh the nostalgia! We played this game on our channel recently and found it a lot harder than we remembered 😂
Was cool to see footage of the later levels as I never got that far as a kid!
What an amazing game...always thought the movie was cringey and stupid but I love this game.
Virgin’s Aladdin game was the version of the game I played as a kid. I remember debating on which version was better, the Genesis version by Virgin or the SNES version by Capcom.
To this day I still feel the Virgin game is the more faithful to the movie. The art design makes the game look like the movie. The music is also amazing. While I do agree that the escape level is stressful (bordering on infuriating) and the final fight is nowhere as good as the SNES version I still feel the Genesis version of still a great game.
Aladdin was my favourite sega game by far!!!
Nice work! Gosh. It has been a long time since I loaded up Aladdin on the Genesis. Just watching footage of the game gets you in the mood - and I am glad they got some movies themes in there as well. Music really goes a long way for a movie/TV tie-in. On a nerdy node - your scripts and pace of delivery are great! Scripting is hard. Arg.
Thank you! I think your scripts are good too.
This is the second best-selling Genesis game of all time, after Sonic 2. It's surprising how well it turned out, considering the notoriously rushed and troubled development cycle. Plus, it is a Western game that came out at a time when most Western developers were still struggling to get the Genesis right. Dave Perry's games were some of the earliest ones to do so. Sega's earlier Western-developed Disney games were absolute trash. The ones that followed Aladdin were pretty good, but never reached the same heights without David Perry's touch. Sega's Japanese developed Disney games are all pure gold. Highly recommend World of Illusion if you never played that one. Pure magic, especially in co--op mode. The game is actually very different depending on whether you play as Mickey or Donald, and even more different in co-op play, which is brilliantly designed.
Getting back to Aladdin, the Capcom-developed SNES game game was good, but a lot more of a generic platformer experience and much easier.
I remember this game. Was so fun. I got stuck on a certain part though, as a child.
Loved this game growing up- great review. The lava flying carpet levels were the bane of my 8 year old self.
What a weird game right? I originally asked my mom to get this for my little sister because I didn't like being the only person in the house using the Genesis. My sister loved it and when watching her play it, I was really impressed by it. It became my Palate cleanser after playing stuff like Lightening Force and Whip Rush. I don't have this game in my collection currently but I think it's one of the most technically impressive games on the Sega Genesis\Mega Drive.
This Game Was My Childhood. And I Completely Agree With When You Said We Didn’t Really See Princess Jasmine. Kinda Sucked Would Of Been Nice To Play As Her In A Level Or Two. Good Review Never The Less!
Thanks!
One of my favorite games on the Mega Drive!
One of my favorite Genesis games!
Missed an opportunity to say: "Defeat Jafar from afar" This game was an excellent example of '90 era gaming though!
Dammit, that would have been a good line
Oh, this is bringing back memories! The Disney games from Virgin were all gems in their own right. I had both Aladdin and The Lion King on DOS and could play them for days, just for the art style and the music. As someone already mentioned that the PC version had better sound quality, but I have to say that the console versions were superior in terms of control.
Hell yeah, Sega GEMESIS! That's the shit!
I ANGREE!
It’s like something old school Prince of Persia fans would like.. It looks like a nice one to have in the collection.. I have noticed there’s a Switch version coming out soon..
The animations do look kinda similar to PoP, but this plays way better.
Cannot be Tamed You learn something new every day so it seems
One of my favorite Genesis games, played it all the time :D
remember this was tough as a kid but Gargoyles destroyed my little soul as a kid : P
I only played Aladdin in the arcades and oh my fucking God it was hard that damn arcade always took all my money
I recently found your channel, and it's awesome! keep up the good work
Thank you!
This video aged well! Who could’ve guessed the remasters would happen!
Alladin and The Lion King are being remastered for modern consoles.
Thanks for the detailed review. A very good game, indeed.
A game I couldn't beat as a kid, maybe I'll revisit it later.
Press Pause and press ABBA ABBA it will skip to the next level....short cut.
Great review. Best Aladdin game out there.
And yeah, it was weird you had to throw apples at bosses off screen. I didn't even know Jafar was a snake the first few times I beat the game (Beat this game waaaaay before I ever saw the movie).
Thanks! I got to see Jafar up close a lot before I figured out how I needed to beat him. Anytime I got to the snake stage when using my sword though I was down to my last sliver of health.
There was more than one?
This was always one of my favorite Genesis games. It was one of the first games I got for the Genesis back in Christmas of 93 when my grandmother got it for me and of course it's one of those games for me that's harder when I get older as opposed to when I was a kid. I don't remember it being so difficult back in the day. Every time I play The Escape level I keep getting my ass handed to me, but I still think it's a very fun game to play though.
This was needed. An important video.
I remember getting a lend of this from my friend in school and being surprised by the quality of the animations, a great feel good game.
Hi, Pam. Amazing review. This is a game I wanted when it came out, but never was able to, unfortunately.
Lord JS lol, me too. i used to go to toys r us after school to play the demo kiosk and try to beat it. i never did but i got close
I played this so much as a kid that I speedran it before knowing what speedrunning was. I also made up challenges like getting through it without getting hit and without using any other apples than those needed for bosses (I'd reset if I missed even a single throw).
I also played this before seeing the movie so needless to say I was quite disappointed to find out that Aladdin didn't use a scimitar.
Aladdin for both the snes and genesis are amazing and I've beaten both! One thing I don't understand is why during the final battle with Jafar u can't fight the evil genie version of him. U can only fight his normal self ofcourse and the snake version of him. Same goes for the snes but atleast there's a cutscene of the evil genie version getting sucked into the lamp like in the movie.
Thank you for the awesome video :). Never played Aladdin, but man that sprite work was CLEAN :D
We performed Aladin as a play in school. I need to rewatch the footage now! I played Aladin on the SNES but never finished it. For a game based on a children's movie it's quite tough. I heard the Mega Drive/Genesis version is better (more "violent") than the SNES version though. Nintendo cut some of the content because they thought it was inappropriate for children. Have you ever played The Lion's King, it's even tougher? Thx for the short but good review, Pam.
I played The Lion King at a friends place as a kid, never got too far.
I love these old school reviews. I never played this game but it seems pretty cool
I preferred the SNES version myself the battle with Jafar in the end was miles better plus you got a bonus level based on A Whole New World
As a Nintendo fan I have to say, Sega totally wins in regard to the Disney games. I loved Aladdin and still love popping it in
I’m going to need to play some more of them, haven’t played all that much Genesis.
You couldn't see him on the screen cuz he was too Jafar away from you lol
lol
My first Sega Mega Drive (its name in Europe) I've ever owned. I think Aladdin was my first movie I've watched in a cinema too actually...November 1993.
JayEm187: What country are you from? Just wondering.
@@eugeneketaminekrebs3403 Germany.
Just found your channel Pam and I am glad I did. Great job on your reviews! I’ll be a subscriber going forward. I played Alladin back in the day and was impressed back then. It still looks good even today. Keep the videos coming.
Classic game loved the original disney movie from 1992 saw that on vhs in 1993 the remake was good too😊
Loved this on the original GB
Nice review, i remember playing this game 20 years ago.
Another fantastic review!
I like the SNES version
Been awhile since I watched one of your reviews. I think you got even more beautiful, and as always well spoken.
Awesome and very detailed review 👍
Aladdin was my first Genesis game and this game is really amazing, one of the best on the system
This was an awesome review!
Thanks Linda
