    Episode Notes:
    1. All footage captured with a combination of real hardware and the Mega SG.
    2. Many of these games are still quite affordable.
    3. Disney often helped in the development of these titles, but only actually did a few of them by themselves.
    4. Disney and Sega was a magical combination. Capcom did some good stuff themselves, but I always preferred the former.

Of these that I have played, Quackshot remains my favorite by far. Aside from the visual and sound, it has a lot of charm to it expressive characters. The sassy moon on the zip line level, the senorita outside the pyramid, even that bit in the intro of Donald running right into the trap door and falling out of sight as the title screen slides in. It is because of the gems on this list that lead me to be a retro gamer today. I am still amazed by the quality of Mickey Mania for the Sega CD. For those who don't own a Genesis or Mega Drive, the good news is that Disney released great Aladdin, The Lion King & The Jungle Book on Steam and it is quite an amazing compilation of these games from multiple platforms including Genesis, SNES, Master System, and Game Boy when available. Disney was probably the most influential franchise in video games during the 8 and 16 but era. They really new how to maximize the animation and made sure their games passed their own quality. Those games got the Disney and Nintendo seal of quality.

    • @AFourEyedGeek

The most influential I wouldn't agree with as that means they influenced the video game industry more than any other company. They wouldn't have influenced others more than Nintendo with their consoles and their frranchises like Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong, and so many more. Seems like everyone wanted a mascot like Sonic from Sega after its success, and so many games companies imitated Street Fightrr 2 from Capcom.
Disney made some great games, but with Sega, Virgin and others developing games for them, Disney's influence would be minimal compared to the other big video game companies. Well that is what I think anyway.

This game is actually on Steam under the title Cold Shadow and is a direct port of the CD-ROM release which had a remastered CD-quality OST, better colors, and a PDF of the colorful PC manual. Keep in mind that while it can run on modern computers, nothing else is changed after that as it is an unoptimized port. You may have to look up a guide to get the music running, or mess with Steam's controller configuration to bind the keyboard to the controller since it does not have native controller support. I was unaware of the co-op only levels in World of Illusion, probably because none of my friends would play it with me. Lion King was another I had, but couldn't get very far in. Aladdin was easily my favourite of the bunch, and comfortably would make my top 10 Megadrive games.

I pity your friends for missing out on that experience- I played that game in co-op and single player as both Donald and Mickey, and I consider it Disney's highpoint on the console. Hope you get to experience it one day, but then again it's quote easy so it probably doesn't hit as hard to a more experienced gamer.

Traveller's Tales were known for pushing the Genesis to its limits, ranging from games like Mickey Mania to Sonic 3D Blast. They really defy what the Genesis was capable of, next to Treasure and Clockwork Tortise, the developers of The Adventures of Batman and Robin.

Another great video 👍🏼 … I feel I missed the 16 bit era, languishing in 8 bit (Amstrad CPC464) hell for too long, then discovering booze, cigarettes and girls (which distracted me a little!) … my little brother had a SNES but I hated RPGs, Donkey Kong and Mario games so I had a low opinion of consoles. But now I wish I bought myself a Mega Drive at the time though, but it wasn’t even on my radar, even though I loved playing arcade games at the seaside such as Outrun, Super Hang-On, Defender/2, Afterburner 2, Space Harrier (etc.). So I’m still claiming some nostalgia for Sega (and Mega Drive games) even though I can’t rightfully do that 😊

I was just playing through castle of illusion remake today on my PC.. I wanted to take a moment to heartily recommend it for anyone who loved the original game. It worked immediately on a modern windows 11 setup with 3070.. and it even supports, natively, 16:10 resolutions for those with laptops or monitors that have that aspect ratio. I am playing it at 1440P, 60 FPS. Looks and sounds beautiful and Sega Australia should be commended for their effort. I am using the Steam version. No issues at all! My monitor is 165HZ and caused no conflicts. You can remove the 65 FPS cap that the game runs at by default with a config file edit, but I don't recommend it as it breaks a couple things later in the game, and let's be honest, 60 FPS is perfectly fine and mirrors the original game's 60 FPS (I have set it to a 60 FPS cap in the nvidia control panel rather than the weird default 65 FPS). Have fun!

Mickey's Ultimate Challenge surprised me because I've never seen anyone review a WayForward game pre-Shantae. I also had no idea they ever made a game for Sega. Too bad it couldn't have played like a proto-Shantae game or something instead.
Also Gargoyles the show was awesome! I still on occasion when I have time for my mind to wander think about cool moments from that show. The game I think I rented it once and it did frustrate me very much. I can't even remember if I got to stage 2 or not? But I do recall being floored by the graphics. While I am on the topic of Gargoyles I do have to add RIP David Warner aka The Archmage! Among a metric ton of other equally memorable and awesome characters.
