    Episode Notes:
    1. Captured on the Mega SG.
    2. Sega would publish more Disney games beyond what it developed internally. They were done by other teams, however.
    3. The end boss is actually one of the easier battles in this game. You time it right and he's dead in seconds.
    4. It's a tough pick between Castle, Quackshot, and World as to which Sega developed Disney game is best on the Genesis. I still have to go with Castle.
    5. This game was reissues when Majesco did the Sega Genesis 3. There are both hard shell plastic and cardboard variations of it.

@@happyspaceinvader508 Me too, exactly the same.
I don't think I got it the year it released, I think it was the following year, 1993. That day, I had to get up early (for a kid, really early, like 6 or 7 am) because my brother was going in for an x-ray, to rule out appendicitis. (He was fine. Didn't need surgery, I think he might have gotten medication for whatever it was that was bothering him).
The rest of the details might be sketchy, but it's been a while. And many parts stay in my mind.
It was my birthday (I was turning nine or ten), and I got the day off of school because I was recovering from a bad headcold, and my brother had to go to hospital. After the scan, we went to a clothing store that, due to the holidays, was selling console games, for the Snes and Megadrive (Genesis to folks in the US). This was the only time they ever sold video games.
And there was such a great selection.
Maybe because of my brother's scan, or the day that was in it ,my parents bought us 3 games, Aladdin, Populous, and World of Illusion. World of Illusion was the one we shared because it was two player.
That day lingers in my mind because it was one of the happiest days I ever had as a kid. My father passed away many years ago, and I've lost so many loved ones since then. But that day, I cherish it. We were all together, as kids we didn't have a care in the world, and it felt magical.

World of Illusion showed that Disney could recover from the disaster that was Fantasia and make a true sequel to Castle of Illussion on the Genesis/Mega Drive. It had so much variety in terms of gameplay with unexpected level designs depending on which character was chosen. The music to World of Illusion is also great and showed that the Genesis could produce captivating and whimsical orchestral-like music when done the right way.

During a visiting to an electronics store which has a sector for game consoles too, my mom bought that game cartridge and after arriving home I happily tried out the game.
I really like the most of level music and the simpe, but good mechanics for both Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck's magic cape.

This game is supreme nostalgic magic to me. It was me and a friends most played co-op game with the wonderful colors, inventive levels and varied events depending on whether you played solo or together, so it felt like there was always something new to find.
I think this is my absolute favorite Disney game because of that, AND because it feels like Donald is given so much character here. That you have to pull him through gaps, his animations and movements, different paths- it feels like this game really does both mascots characters justice, it's just got that little extra magic that makes you feel part of an adventure that's not JUST a game, but a carefully planned out experience, it feels like it's Mickey and Donald having this adventure even if they're in places they've never been portrayed in before. Man I love it so much. Every new song the video played gave me flashbacks, until I could hum them all as the levels came into view. Easy as it gets, true, but I think that lack of difficulty meant that a kid not even 8 years old could beat it and that fosters memories that lasts you through life. Still think Donald had the best "Alakazam", he was putting his whole beak into that line!

A 7 year old me spent an entire summer scouring the yard for change, every single day. I was convinced that I would find money on the ground. And I did! Every few days, there would be at least a quarter. After it rained, there was LOTS. My grandparents were leaving money for me to find, but O didn't know that.
Filled up an entire three liter bottle of Adirondack orange soda with my findings and a week before school was due to start, gave it to a horrified bank teller who turned it into about 50 bucks.
So off we went to the K-Mart, where of everything on the shelf, this was the first brand new video game I ever bought with my own money.
Yes - I beat it the next day, and it took me a couple weeks to figure out you could also do a Donald playthrough. I didn't care. It blew me away then, and blows me away now.

In both the 8 and 16 bit eras there sure were a lot of good Disney games. what’s amazing to me is that in those days licensed games tended to suck but Disney based games seemed to be the exception regardless of the developer. Sega, Capcom, and even Virgin all made great Disney games for the NES, Genesis, and SNES. I’m thinking of games like Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers, Mickey Mousecapade, The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse, Quackshot, Castle of Illusion, Both versions of Aladdin by Virgin and Capcom. Those were all great!

It was a great favorite from the Genesis. All the points you mentioned were spot on. I still have my own copy of the game in the original box.

Greatest Genesis Game of All Time
I still play this, Its hilarious watching my kids fail to beat a level, then I will beat the game in under a half hour LOL
I was Royally Peeved the PS3 ReMake wasn't as good, or had a Remake of the original with new graphics just for "Mario All-Stars" like remake to be Included

One of the best Sega/Mega Drive games. Played this solo with each character and co-op with a sibling. Each experience is different with different levels and abilities adding to the replay, and it's a ton of fun. The 90's were Disney at their best.

I'm amazed how you didn't think much of the graphics! It's heaps ahead of Castle of Illusion (which was, and still is, a bit too dark and gloomy for my taste).
Animations more fluid and more close to the cartoons we would watch on TV.

I think he did in the sequence where the ceiling is coming down in a cave and you pretty much HAVE to run, but he actually answered this in a thread on a Donkey Kong Country video- Sega Lord X doesn't run in games where you do so by holding down a button.
And that's really just it. Unless the game forces him to, he just seems to heavily dislike mechanics that involve holding down buttons to engage a function, and so he just doesn't do it unless he absolutely has to.

A great game. I was so pleased both Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion were included on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Mini.
I've not actually completed World of Illusion as Donald, but having watched this video I think it's time I correct this wrong of mine!

I didn't expect to see a Super Game/Super Game Power page in one of your videos, but here we are. :) I'm not entirely sure which of the two it is, because Super Game Power was a merge of the SEGA focused Super Game with the Nintendo focused Game Power. All three had the same people behind them. I had a lot of SGP editions back in the day. Anyway, thanks for the memories.
