Honestly this is what game remakes should be, not games under a decade old, but ones from AGES ago that could benefit from modern graphics and design concepts.
True. It could bring a new, fresh feel to a game and completely visualize what the developers wanted initially.

THIS IS WHAT I MEANT EVERYTIME I TALKED ABOUT THAT RE4 DOESN'T NEED A REMAKE!
Finally, someone understands.
@@pasalasaga but re4 was 18 yo apart from the og, while this is 23, not much of a big gap. especially since between mid 2000s and now the tech for console had leaps and bounds
@@shinreilba It looks fine to me.
Whichever team developed the remake did such a collective great job that I imagined that the designers for the original had a dream but were held back by the limitations of computer graphics technologies of the time (not just the limitations of the Mega Drive hardware).
To add to what I previously mentioned: the rapid flashing between colour and white in the original was intended to make a character sprite appear translucent, however that effect only worked on CRT displays and, from what I can tell, fell out of favour during the 5th videogame console generation (32 and 64 bit consoles).
wasn't just that, but understanding of the hardware as well as they were only allotted like a 4mb cart or so IIRC. Mind you some Genesis titles later in life, or high profile games got the 16mb treatment, which allowed for more graphical fidelity as well as content

Ah, I forgot about that!
Basic rundown of the differences between versions.
Old Oak Tree: Its design now has a more elderly appearance with arms and legs. Partway through, it gains a jumping attack, and can do a drilling rush at 1hp.
Jack in the Box: The goofy shoes are gone and its boxing gloves only come out during specific attacks. Fight is now 3D for some parts. Changes attacks every time it takes damage, including a sweeping attack, a spinning top attack, and a shockwave variant of the jump attack.
Storm Men: More of them overall. Fight now has an underwater phase where the Storm Men will chase you as falling debris surrounds you. Can also do a tongue attack during the land phase.
Licorice Dragon: Can't be damaged until it bites a platform, but luckily has way less health. Also throws -cookies- macarons at the platforms before biting, and has very brief chase sequences between hits.
Oafish Clockmaker: Jumping on him no longer actually deals damage. Instead, he has a spinning attack which lets you deal damage by luring him towards a bell in a 3D section.
Mizrabel: Drops the Kirby-style teleporting entirely in favor of longer and more varied ghost patterns. Fight is also in 3D, and platforms rise after every attack. Also she won't shut the hell up.
The licorice Dragon launches macarons not cookies
macaroons are cookies?
Not like it's relevant or anything, but could they *really* not have brought back the classic boss music?
Granted, Mizrabel is invulnerable while she’s reciting a spell. There’s purpose to it.
to mizrabel's credit, it is pretty cool all her chants are rhymes
Gotta say, this was pretty darn impressive. Every boss captured the essence of the original but updated it for the 3d platform environment. If I had to be nit-picky, the dragon seemed somewhat underdeveloped and a lot shorter than the other bosses for the position in the game it was. The rest more than made up for it though, and that final battle was incredible.
I didn't think it was underdeveloed when i first played it 😗
Its actually quite hard, I spent 3 days trying to get past this level. Well, it was mainly because I was on touch screen 😅
I hope this isnt entirely unrelated but the dragon was shorter since the lead up to the dragon was only half of the area the dragon was from
Imma say this. I’ve never heard of this game, but that boss tune on the original kinda hits hard.
The game is castle of illusion, buying it on mobile isn’t free! It wants money
@@phongpham8512 you can just emulate as well
I like the graphics and sound design more in the new one but the music was so much better in the older one.
The music is much better in the new one imo.
Same
2 things different between the bosses of both versions
1. All the bosses in original version (Except Mizrabel) have the same them when in the remake they all have different variations of the same theme
2. The original version of the Storm-Men fight has 5 and the remake version of it has 6
Also most bosses have way more health like 7-8, the remake gives them more resoonable health pools
They added the chase scene in the Dragon fight
They Added the 3d parts to Jack, Mizrabell and Clockmaker
They Gave Oak tree a Jumping attack
They added the underwater part for the storm men
And They Won,t let mizrabell Shut the heck up
And oafish Clock maker No Longer takes Damage from Jumps to the head
0:58 I like how he explodes like eggman in classic sonic games, even the sound is the same 😂
@@linishatopham1739@linishatopham1739
But 1990 means that it was made BEFORE Sonic 1
Also I notice they gave the tree less health in the remake to make it less tedious.
That's how explosions sounded in the sega genesis sound chip or something like that
It was pretty much the Mega Drive boss defeat sound effect 😊❤
“He must not prevail!” Does the same attack that has led up to every single hit on her
Well, nobody ever said video game villains were smart!
Facepalm
@@mobgabriel1767 🤦♀️
Castle of Illusion on Genesis is a stone-cold classic. One of the greatest early platformers on the system along with Ghouls and Ghosts and Strider. Still got the cart, box, and manual.
Wow Mickey collecting chaos emeralds
Well, it's a SEGA game xD
yep.
Mickey jumps higher than Luigi!
@@leociresi4292 now I see why he need to get humbled in kingdom hearts
Ma man mickey trying to become super mickey
i like how they kept the overall same idea as the boss fights from the original game but adding a little twist to it as well

The storm men were a menace in the remake I struggle with them the most when I was younger
Aside from looking like Tornado Man in a few decades… why are they called “Storm-Men”? They’re “Ocean-Men” at best.
@@kylestubbs8867 I have no idea
Me too
Storm men, maybe the green goblin looking things underwater, right
On the remake i struggled the most at mizrabel, but then after i beat her it got easy
If only Disney put this much effort in their live action remakes.
Please stop bringing it up.
@@joshuaball5916why? We can if we want to
@@joshuaball5916 if only Disney put this much effort in their live action remakes
Except Cinderella. This one is gorgeous
I like the upgraded visuals and difficulty of the remakes, but prefer the music of the original. The original actually sounds like boss music.
And so does the remake
Luckily you have the option to use the original music when playing the remake. That's what I did.
20:32 Mickey straight up teaBags the witch
I didn't take so bad the change between 2D to 3D in games, close to the cgi in films as a whole! In game industry this development was like it was born for the specific media!
The graphics of a Disney game from 2012 still hold up today somehow
The original bosses were much more exciting despite the technical limitations. I think Disney toned down the new game a bit to avoid stressing out some (younger) players. I would have been nice to hear the original boss themes, even if a little toned down.
Well gameplay wise I'd say the remake is a bit harder, which isn't saying much
I remember the jack-in-the-box boss, sea creature boss and another boss being terrifying. Imagine being a child playing this game and seeing this creepy clown or hearing the mumbles of the sea creatures
Awesome, hope they will remake world of illusion also!
Hicieron una nueva versión todo el juego fue remasterizada incluido el castillo de la ilusión
TODO el juego
I miss in the old games when bosses would just have a lot of explosions around them when defeated
The Clockmaker Looks like Willie The Giant from Mickey & the beanstalk 13:00
Yeah he does.
It’s actually called Donald and the Beanstalk
I agree.
@@oghcuteanimationhq5121 Are you a child? That's just the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episode. The Character was originally from the 1940's short "Mickey" and the Beanstalk which was part of the feature, Fun and Fancy Free.
@@oghcuteanimationhq5121 found the 5 year old
Love the little hip wiggle and hands behind the back in the original. Groovy Mickey looks like he is up to cause trouble. The water boss was a good change.
Nice remaster of a classic Genesis platformer, Mickey Mouse & The Castle Of Illusion. 😊
It's a remake
When I was a kid I PLAYED A LOT on the mega drive. Wow how much I miss you
1:21 Mickey Mouse VS The Lorax
I actually prefer the 2013 versions better.
For those of u who are wondering what happened to the green gem, u get the green gem in the giant library/library chase scene where u chase Shadow Mickey across the giant library and eventually u catch up to him and get the green gem.
In the original game, are players told to jump on bosses’ heads to damage them?
Up until you defeat that first boss, jumping on its head doesn’t seem to actually do anything. I might’ve given up and tried kicking acorns into it or something.
Normalmente nos jogos antigos uns 90% dos jogos era assim por conta do mario que criou moda então ja era intuitivo pro player o que ele tinha que fazer
Games had manuals that explain these stuffs. But jumping on enemies were a staple in the 90s, so it came naturally.
There's a clear indication, both visually and acoustically, that jumping on them makes damage.
Nostalgia 😢
True
The best Mickey Mouse game ever 🎮🎮 the remake on the PS4 is awesome as well. But this is a true classic. The music, sound, graphics is awesome!
Jack in the box remake now has 4 boxing gloves, they removed his shoes and replaced it with a formate, and they changed his head, neck, and face
The boss themes from the 90’s hit hard (though I’m not sure about that final boss theme). It’s too bad that they replaced them.
The old tree is mad cause he was defeated so easily in the gb version
I like to think this is the prequel to Kingdom Hearts, before Mickey trained with Yensid 😂
0:00 - Lorax Had Enough
2:27 - Goofy-ahh Clown
6:50 - Mentally Challenged Gremlins
9:58 - Oh God Please Don't Vore Me
12:15 - Jack Horner's Homeless Cousin
14:38 - Maleficent Couldn't Make it, You'll be Good Enough
I thought that 12:15 was Willie the Giant's miniature cousin.
The remakes of the bosses look like improvement for me.
My Ideas for Castle of Illusion game:
*NO "magic of love" garbage
*The cursed mirror should be the cause for the main antagonist's obsession with youth and beauty, and mickey breaks the cursed mirror.
*The rolling log boss could be a miniboss,
*There should be a chocolate miniboss which used to be a boss at Master System version
*Add the book boss from Master System version
*Also add grandfather clock boss from Master System as a miniboss
*And also add dragon miniboss from Master System version
The boss music in the original is better.
The original graphics were so colorful. What a treat
Kind of wish they would remaster the Remake so it's more playable
When I was a kid, I used to play this game with my bro.
The fact I’ve played both is honestly pretty neat to me
Why didn't I heard about this game before? The remake looks amazing!
Mizrabel's dialogue sounds straight out of the Haunted Mansion.
12:55 EPIC SOUNDTRACK
I feel like the Library and Candyland should've been two separate areas and the Indigo Gem should've had its own area and not just lying inside of the vault
I wish they would remake Quackshot! That game was actually much better than Castle of Illusion
Micky casually obtaining chaos emeralds💀
I didn’t even know it was a remake
Finally someone remembers this game
I had no idea the 2013 Castle of Illusion was a remake 😯!!
The remake came out in 2013? With the graphics I thought it came out in 2019 or either 2020
Is it just me, or does the face of that dragon remind me of Elliot from Pete's Dragon?
This game REALLLY benefits from its remake's inplementation of 2.5D and 3D level design.
I get crash and sonic vibes from this
Yeah, I mean, it's a SEGA game, so make sense it look like Sonic
Cant believe mickey's collecting the chaos emeralds 💀
I love her voiced lines for each of her phases, it really gave her the Evil Queen reference from Snow White
Damn, how heavy is Mickey?
so where do you download this mickey mouse remake not on sega genesis but recent systems or pc?
Bro Mickey the Mouse was collecting the Chaos Moucecatuls.💀
They should rerelease this along with Quackshot and World of Illusion on modern consoles
1:18 When Lorax left Illumination for Disney
Can we take a moment to appreciate the Remake’s soundtrack by Grant Kirkhope along with DuckTales Remastered’s OST by Jake Kaufman?
If I were Disney, I would have commissioned Sega and Capcom to make remasters of World of Illusion and DuckTales 2, even if the latter would have been based on the 2017 Reboot, given the age of Alan Young, June Foray and Russi Taylor at the time of DuckTales Remastered’s release before their passings.
Now we know why he’s so grumpy, he was beaten and he had no limbs
5:20 bruh mario oddysey
I never knew about this game. I'll have to play it sometime.
Why is Mickey collecting chaos emeralds?
Because it's a SEGA game.
I just came back to this video thinking the exact same thing and was going to comment it again just to realise I did it already lol
Never heard of the game. From the thumbnail, the remake looks amazing.
even in remake form their too easy
Honestly a shame, I was hoping for a bit of a challenge
They may make it harder
The remake is a game for kids. That's why it's easy.
*they’re
In Remake they are easier actually
Except for the third one wich is harder
The remake is equally easy in the 1st and 2nd boss, but the post ones are harder. Good remake.
Que lindo que mi primer juego de Mikei lo allas hecho un Remake. Era re chiquito cuando juge este juego. Y abia otro juego que lastimaba a los enemigos con una capa.
Are we not going to talk how Mickey has five chaos emeralds
Why is Mickey collecting the Chaos Emeralds?
It amazing how they change it
5:41 i Remember i had problems with this phase until i realized i could do small jumps
this is a godly remake
2nd boss is like: "why are you hitting yourself?"
Love the original 2D graphic though.
I’m having these in my nightmares
1990 looks like if Mickey had a collab with sonic
Quagmire toilet dragon
Skibidi Disney!
Bro castle of illusion( 2013 ) and ducktales remastered was my toddlerhood, I still play them too, it took me awhile to get to ducktales remastered because it’s not on mobile but I got an Xbox and got to play 2 of them on it
Both look fun.
Original:Many HP for bosses and the bosses are eazy.
Remake:less HP but way harder.
Bro I loved this game
This reminds me of what they did for Link’s Awakening
La versión moderna aunque tiene una música con muchos más instrumentos y es más cinematográfica carece de la energía y emoción que te daba llegar a la pelea con el jefe y escuchar esa música de 16 bits
Did they ever release this remake game physically?
If so what consoles is the remake it on?
No, only digital for PS3 and Xbox360.
@@phinyxgaming it's on PC too
@@skapokonroll also on mobile

17:11 - "ZIPPA-DEE-DOO-DAH I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS"
I wish they ported the remake onto consoles.
I remember playing the remake back on my ps3
I used to have this game on my old phone, sadly it no longer works so if i want to replay i have to rebuy it :(
Don't tear my throat out in the replies, but I like the old one better. The new one feels kinda cheap and the SFX of bopping a baddie on the head in the original is perfection. Not hating on the new one necessarily, I just think it could've been better.
the poor dragon in the original tho bro got stomped once the boss music starttd playing 😭
