Carisma SCA 1E Build Guide & Tips Part 1 - Bags A to C

  • Welcome to Part 1 of my build guide for the Carisma SCA-1E chassis, where I assemble the parts in bags A to C of the kit. This will eventually become a Land Rover Range Rover 1981 - 1/10 Scale RC Crawler. However, the chassis build will apply to any SCA-1E kit. We basically cover the build of the 4 alloy shock absorbers, the locked differentials and assembly of the basic front and rear axles. It's going very well, and all seems to be of great quality so far. I really need some feedback about how you want the rest of the SCA-1E build guide to be filmed. Have I gone into too much detail? Should I skip over the easier parts? Or would you like to see every detail, as I have shown in this Part 1 of the guide? Please let me know what you think in the comments below. I will be happy to amend the rest of the guides as required! Many thanks, stay safe and enjoy our fabulous RC hobby! As always, best wishes from Mark!

    Hey Mark, slow and steady does the job. I Think you nailed the level of detail / involvement in this opening video. For me it was well explained, clear with troubleshooting advice when needed ( essential ) and a camera on the instruction manual is always helpful. I honestly don't think you could have done it any better. In some ways it reminds me of a Tamiya with the bag A, stages 1- 5 style, but in other ways with things that didn't fit it seems far from Tamiya. But hey, there can only be one King. Really enjoyed this build mate, and look forward to the next one. Have a great weekend dude..👍🏻.

      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Cheers, dude! That's great feedback, and much appreciated. Glad you approve of the "over the manual" method. Yeah, it is a little reminiscent of the Tamiya bag letters, a good way of keeping parts separate for each stage of the build. Definitely doesn't "click" together as tightly as a Tamiya, but not too bad overall, apart from that little shaft that just would not fit! Hoping your weekend is going well, too, all the best my good friend. :-)

    Hiya matey. First of all I enjoyed the interview on Vallone RC. You came across very well. You know we ought to do that but litter it with double entendres and ooh matron! Anyway another great build guide and it looks like a good one. I still reckon that you ought to make this speedy. Those gears look like they could cope with it. Does remind me a bit of the Axial Yeti I built. I've had Thurs and Fri off this week. Did a bit of RC yesterday and got a bit of a vid together. Just waiting for it to process. I think that it's shite weather over the weekend so will be doing some indoor tasks. Hope you have got some sort of beer on the go. Enjoy the weekend mate 😁🍺🍺🍺🍺

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Cheers, matey! Yeah, glad you liked the interview, Chris is a great host and presenter - it must have taken a lot of effort to do all the video grabs off my channel and to edit the footage so well - hat's off to him! Yes, we could do a really funny "English humour" interview, I'm up for that if you are! These videos are rare on CZcams, but seem to get a lot of interest. It was fun to do, but honestly, I was bricking it most of the time, and yes, that was not tea in the big mug I was drinking from!!!
      The Carisma build is going slowly but well, it sure ain't a Tamiya, parts don't fit as neatly together and a bit of fettling is needed. Cool you got some down-time, looking forward to the resulting video! Weather is shite here too, but hope to get some running on Sunday. Got a strong one on the go as we speak, been a crap week at work so kicking back for the weekend. Hope all is well with you, hope the beer is going down well this evening. All the best my mate! :-)

We could do a Zoom (or whatever) chat and I'm sure it could edit into something interesting but if we just look like a couple of drunk berks then it will never see the light of day! Be fun anyway. You need to fill me in on how it all works. Anyway my video this week might end up being tomorrow morning as the 4k takes forever for CZcams to process. That Arrma Senton one took 24 hours for CZcams to get the 4k version done! Just having a few IPA's and I've got fish and chips in the oven. Hope work improves for you but I expect it's just very difficult with everything that's going on. Cheers for now mate :-)

    Mukka... You were dead on with the O-Ring on the Spring height adjuster. 👌
    I WAS going to question the use of 900wt Shock Oil - but then noticed 4 BIG holes in the Piston. When you moved them after building, the action seemed very smooth. GENERALLY, longer Crawler Shocks want lighter Oil, because of longer, faster articulation than Cars with 50-60mm Dampers.
    You might be fine!! You'll have to run her through some savage Terrain to really know...
    Listen Brother... I'm in Hospital. My temperatures jumped up to around 104-105F, and we're testing for COVID now. 😲😳 We're HOPING!
    I am definitely interested in this level of detail. I need things to distract.

      Those 4 big holes in the Carisma Dampers are the exception amongst Crawler Shocks. Should you ever build an Axial (and I highly recommend you do), you won't want to go thicker than 350-600wt.

    Good work, Mark. Looks like real quality shocks and axles. Always wonder why differentials that have no 'open-differential'-option are named differentials and why they still need that differential housing. Why wouldn't a single ring gear not be enough ... hmm ... Ohh, and if you have the time, then do the full build. I think for people building along with you it will be a gift for them to be able to skip around in all steps. And what you find obvious may not be obvious for the beginner - building his/hers first kit :-) But yeah, it can be time consuming to film ...

    Hi Mark, I think you portrait the detail perfectly buddy. I am looking to get one of these myself. Just to clarify, with the deluxe kit, you get the bearings, is that right? because I don't like the look at those bushings. Good tip on the top of the shocks, nice spotting of that recess for that rubber seal, again great detail. From what I've read, you need, an ESC, Motor, Servo and shock oil to build the kit (amongst others). Looking forward to the next stages and that all important 1st run. Great work as usual and please keep the level of details as is, especially for nerds like me :) The grease in the axels, did you use marine grease? What about the seal between the axel and axel covers, you mentioned that it clipped into place, does that seal to stop potential water ingress? Until next time, keep well and safe.

You are correct about the things you need to complete the build. I used my big pot of Moly grease as per! Packed it in! I also coated all the joint surfaces with the grease, should help, but maybe marine grease would be a better option. Keep safe and well too, mate! Cheers! :-)

      Hi Joe. Yes, I thought the same when I got my kit, and I ordered a set of bearings. However, I later found the kit bearings in the bodywork accessories plastic bag!
      In case you need it, here is a link to the bearings I bought:

    How come there is not much buzz on this truck, it’s seems really nice & Scale. Is it still to new? I don’t see anyone even mention it on the some of the forums.

      Hi - yeah, it's strange that this kit doesn't get more exposure (although there are a few CZcams videos that give it a big thumbs up). It's been out a while now, I hope it grows in popularity as it really is a good quality truck, and seems to perform very well too. Best regards from Mark...

      Hi George, yep, those screws or bolts are very tight, I did find that the cheap allen key that came with the kit soon lost it's edges! All the best!

    I know that its three years too late, but ive been wanting this kit for the longest time. How strongly would you recommend it? The limited edition is no longer available onlt the special edition.

      Hello! Never too late! I really have enjoyed both building and running this crawler. It's really scale looking and drives very nicely. The only issue I have is that on very steep climbs, the torque through the axles causes one of the front wheel to lift, however this has been fixed in the latest release of the kit. Totally recommended by me! 😎👍

    Hi! Mark there again! Having fun with SCA-LE?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety +1

      I am! Although it is certainly no Tamiya to build - the instructions are vague at best, and the fitment of parts is not as I am used to. But overall, very enjoyable. Wishing you a great weekend, Kalle! :-)

    Why do you put all the bags in individual containers before you start why wouldn't you just use one container and open the bags as you need them that is way too many containers

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety

      Very simple answer to that one, James! It's because I did an unboxing video for you guys on CZcams, and to show all parts in detail I have to open all the bags at once and I don't want them to get mixed up. If I were not filming it, I'd obviously only open one at a time! :D

      I see what you are saying, but then what is the point of watching an unboxing video? You can just buy it yourself and see what's in the box! Many people have commented that they like the way I show everything, but I understand it's not to everyone's taste. Thanks very much for your input, James. :)
