  • Hello, and welcome to the unboxing of my latest kit, the Carisma SCA-1E Land Rover Range Rover 1981 - 1/10 Scale RC Crawler. I have been inspired to get a scale crawler kit by my good friends, Steve of RC Crawlers Mid-Wales, Derek of Holly Hill RC, RcNickster and AnT R/C. In this unboxing, we have a bit of a chat and try to show all the components you get in the kit, including those Limited Edition specials, the alloy 3-spoke alloy CNC machined wheels!
    Many thanks to my good friend, Rob Brennan RC for filming and co-hosting the video!
    The 1981 Range Rover Deluxe Kit offers Scale Adventurists the chance to build their own a piece of automotive history. Personalise their adventure and add as little or as much additional Scale Details as they wish. The fully Licensed body has all the additional injection moulded details you expect from Carisma, adding another layer of realism to the already remarkably accurate shell. Original design data from JLR was utilised in its realisation.

    Hi Mark. This is a good choice for your first crawler kit. I'm going to FB you about what I did with one of my SCA- 1E chassis which you may find useful with your build, depending on which way you want to go. Thank you very much for the mention my friend 🙂👍👍

      Cool, thanks, Derek! Glad you like it, that fills me with confidence. I did a bit of research and this looked to be a good buy for the money, and an excellent body, of course! Thank you so much for the detailed info on FB - massively appreciated and very useful to this novice. Well, after watching all those wonderful crawlers beautifully filmed on your channel, I had to be inspired! All the best, my good mate! :))

    That's cool. The box picture with the Range Rover on it, for a second I thought the mud was rust. Now that would be true scale detail LOL. Great choice Mark and I look forward to watching these vids.

    From the box, it looked like came “pre-muddy”, 😆. You’ll put plenty of that on it,😆. Might be hard the first time you take it out in its pristine condition to get it dirty, 😆. Now you will have a rig for the rough winter weather!👍. Does the shell usually come clear? This looks like it will be an exciting and fun build! Even more Fun once the wheels touch the ground! Thank you to you and Rob for the excellent unveiling! 👏👏👍. Fun weekend ahead for you!

      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks a ton, Christine! Yes, it sure is muddy on the box-art! I will definitely get it dirty! Always a strange time for me, running a newly built car, but I soon forget and drive like crazy! Yeah, most RC bodies come clear, and you paint them on the INSIDE!!! That means the paint can't be scratched, only the clear plastic, it's a cool trick! Looking forward to getting it built and running. Yes, my great friend, Rob, always does a good job for me with the camera and chat, he's a top man! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my good friend - take care! :-)

    Big surprise. Very cool, Mark. All the steel and the wheels and shocks look so much nicer than the CC-02. And well yes, one of the reasons I haven’t got a CC-02 is also that I would have to pay for a Mercedes body I didn’t want 🙂 looking forward to the build and runs.

    Hi Mark! it feels good to start the weekend with your last video.
    The choice of Range Rover is really excellent. This iconic car is highly sought after and is snapped up at high prices among collectors. I myself would have liked to own one at the time. But it is clear that this kind of car was off budget for me.
    At 1/10 scale it is already more reasonable and it will bring you a lot of pleasure I'm sure. I hope the assembly instruction booklet from Carisma is as good as that of the Tamiyas. In any case from the point of view of the parts it seems quite good quality.
    Hope you are okay Mark. For my part, the week was very trying because of the new restrictions but also with the tribute to our murdered colleague.
    I wish you a weekend full of joy and serenity. Take care mon ami.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety

      Hello, Alex! I'm glad you like the choice of RC - yes I too could not afford a real Range Rover, but they sure are iconic, especially here in England. I live very close to the main factory! This kit was very well priced, especially for the quality of the components, I'm very pleased with it.
      I'm OK thank you, but similar to you, very tired, due to the new restrictions on our lives and at school, I now have to wear a mask all day, like you :-/
      Ah, yes, the murder is awful news, I was very saddened when I heard about it, what is the world coming to, mon ami? We must continue as best we can. Love and peace to you too, my dear friend.

    That looks like an absolute bargain, just like the FF03! I have a TRX4 Sport Kit and the hex screws on that have rusted in about a year and half (did not realise they were not stainless steel) plus the cheapo beadlocks wheels I got as an aftermarket upgrade have also suffered the same fate. Can't wait to see the build on this, the body shell looks absolutely superb... Nice buy Mark!!! :-)

    Hi guys, I’ve been thinking about getting this kit for a while now, I absolutely love the early Range Rover, i used to do deliveries in one in the early eighties, and I ragged the sh1t out of it, even got it up on two wheels going waaaaaaaaaaay tooooo fast round a sharp bend........ and I’ve still got the skid marks on the undies lol 😂 but honestly, that’s a true story, and never took one that fast again:p . Although my best mate and I were going to enter the rac circuit of Ireland in a 1.6 Vauxhall nova, even got sponsorship for tyres and fuel ⛽️ , i was going to be the pilot,and he was the co-pilot/note caller, but his girlfriend talked him out of it, and it still grates on my to this day grrrrrrrrrrr lol. Hi Mark, When I clicked on this upload for my weekly anticipated dose of MBRC I briefly wondered if it was the correct Mark upon seeing 'Carisma' and not Tamiya in the title. But heck, it is you - seemingly on a temporary Sojourn away from Tamiya. To be honest I don't blame you, as you said Tamiya don't really make a dedicated crawler unless you include the CC-02 and CR-01......is it....\?/... and even then neither of those are waterproofed. I think you chose a wonderful model too in this Range Rover, the box art looks brilliant. What colour shell were you planning on, and what will be your choice of motor ? I think you'll enjoy the crawling side of the hobby - no quick-fire reflexes required or crashes, or ko'd GoPros. Before you know it you'll have a roof rack full toolkits, camping equipment and winches...😂, the sky's the limit with scale crawlers. Look forward to an interesting non-Tamiya build and of course your new scale adventures....👍🏻.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Hiya, Cosmo! Haha - nearly got you there! But yes, when I was researching for a new build of the crawler type, this one stood out as excellent value for money (as I'm a real tight-arse!). Yeah, the other Tamia crawler is the CR-01, way more expensive and not particularly scale looking, either. As I said, more Tamiyas to come, but meantime, this is a nice diversion. Definitely looking forward to a more leisurely pace, and some respite for the poor GoPro! I have got new tins of metallic green and blue paint, still undecided on that. I'm sure those accessories will be coming in the future, as you say, so much you can do with these, loving the fact you can easily personalise them bit by bit. Yeah, I think the CR-01's go for about £280, quite expensive for what they are and they have that weird suspension - springs with nothing inside them. Having said that there is something about the Tamiya Rock Socker that attracts me. Probably OOP by now though.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Totally agree about those springs, it was the one thing that immediately struck me a just "odd". Yeah, I was looking at the Rock Socker at one point, just couldn't pull the pin on it! :-)

    Hi Mark that looks a great model. I've been debating between various crawlers / trailer models for a while now and I've managed to get a pink ticket from the chancellor (shhh!wife) for one, I've looked at this model and the FTX Outback 2. I must admit, I too, prefer the building element of our hobby. This might be what I'm looking for, something to go off the smooth and into the rough terrain, but still looks scale in appearance. Might just be persuaded on this one, rather than the FTX! Great filming as usual from the dynamic duo !

      Hi John, sorry for the late reply my friend. Thanks for the interesting comment. Glad the chancellor has given a green light! The FTX is well regarded, as far as I can see. But the SCA-1E ias also some great reviews, if you like building, this is the one to go for. Check out the build vids as they come, I can tell you it's not like any Tamiya to build, and the instructions are pants! All the best, mate! :)

    Hiya matey. This was very well timed as I just got home and poured a beer and up popped your video 😁 it's good to try a kit from another manufacturer because it will test your brain a little bit. I enjoyed building the Axial Yeti and it was more tricky than any Tamiya I have built so far. It's partly because the instructions weren't as good as the Tamiya's which are excellent. Hope you enjoy it. Looks great with all the metal bits and those lovely wheels. I wonder if it will be fast enough to be fun? I must say that I got limited joy from my ftx scale crawler but yours might be a bit speedier. If not then you can always send it to Derek (Captain Slow 😂) Anyway how's it been going with work? The crazy thing at our place is that they have furloughed half of the staff and the remaining ones have to do twice as much work. I've done at least 10 extra hours this week. Also, doesn't seem much like a lockdown this time as out and about there is loads of traffic and people. Anyway with the current rules I can go and RC so long as I don't meet more than one person so I'll be doing that. Hope you can get started on that kit and have a nice relaxing time. Best wishes matey 😁

      Hiya Pete! Glad you caught it, mate! I agree, the manual looks sadly lacking compared to the Tamiya's I'm used to. Lots of suck and see, I think! Worried about the body, as there are virtually no instructions for that. Hey ho - it will be a journey into the unknown. Does feel like a good quality kit though, I've seen these run very well in other videos. I was thinking of putting a Tamiya silver can in it and giving it some SPEED! Should be a laugh. Well, they always seemed to be passing me on the motorways, back in the day! Haha, yeah, I can always sell it to Captain Slow - He's already put in a bid! Work is a nightmare, more restrictions, masks and distancing than before, so glad it's the weekend. Amazing you have even more work - hope you are OK with that? Yeah, same up here, seems just the same as last week, IDK what's going on? I think folks are fed up with the restrictions and ignoring them this time. Get out and RC if you can, before Winter really sets in. Gonna take it easy this weekend - all the best my good mate! :-)

    Great choice Mark! I have keeping my eye on this one too I must confess, the Ltd edition is definitely the one to go for with those gorgeous wheels and I love the metal components, seems a high quality model. I hear you regarding the frustration on finding new Tamiya kits, what's going on?!

      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety

      Thanks, Bri! Yeah, as the wheels cost over £100, it's definitely worth going for the Ltd Edition, it's only £40 more, and you get better tyres and all the bearings! Love the wheels though, such well made items. Yeah, Tamiya have closed their factory in Europe, I hear, hence no kits or spares for us. Let's hope the situation improves. Of COURSE I'm kidding Mate. WELCOME to the Rabbit Hole of the Scale Crawler World!!! 😲
    I'll be happy to catch you up on the proper terminology... Like, those "side plates" are called Rock Sliders.
    Mukka.... Can you handle NOT using a Servo Saver!!???? Crawlers never use them. Instead you fit all metal geared 20-30g Servos. 😉
    So WELCOME to ALL Allen Head Screws, STRONG, no compromise Chassis and, except for Carisma and MST... ALL Ball Bearings as standard!!! 😁
    That BODY is really something special. Didn't even know it was available. Must be a your side of the Pond only item. I'm a big fan of Range Rovers, and wish it would be available WHEN I can actually BUY one.....
    Which...... BREAKING NEWS - there's a firm offer on my Great Grandfather's House in Brooklyn!!!!!! 🎉 🏆 🍾🍾🍻🍻
