  • The Carisma SCA-1E Coyote 2.1 is a 1/10 RC crawler with 110mm tires, straight axles and a no-nonsense drive-train. The four-link geometry and chassis-mounted servo are an interesting combination, and yet, this little rig could just be a discount, big-name gem!
    This is our review of the new version of the Carisma Coyote 2.1 and we can't wait to get into it! Join us for a closer look at what makes this one special, where it may be lacking, and how it goes on the rocks.
    Let's test!

    8:15 an old school trick to those body mounts to keep the body from rattling? small O rings. If you get them small enough when you stretch it over the post they get really thin and don't affect the body mounting position too much. In this case, it would keep those rings in place as well.

    Thanks for the review. Been considering this, or the Rover, in either RTR or kit form, because I have a Carisma Lynx body I'd like to easily mount on something. Plus, I like how Carisma engages the community on social media, keeping them informed of their business productivity (i.e. recent shipping dilemma), and general inspiration. For the third time now, I find myself having ordered a truck you’ve reviewed to have a play with! 😂 One of my first 1/10 RC cars was the Carisma M40S VW Touareg rally raider, it’s taken all kinds of punishment over the years and is still going strong. 👍 This Coyote will join two of your other reviewed cars, the Element Sendero HD and Gatekeeper. I was going to post "I wonder why no one has come up with an axle mounted steering rack" for R/Cs" so I went to see what the real crawlers use. Many use a rack mounted to the chassis but "real" rock crawlers do just that: mount the steering rack to the axle. That would eliminate all the issues with body/chassis movement during articulation.
    Oh if I only had access to a machine shop! haha...

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před rokem +1

      There are a bunch for older crawlers, but the trend has been for cms in recent years. In building this as a class 1 it'll have to stay on the chassis, but I'm definitely going to go SOA on the Remo 10275!

      @@RCTNT yeh definitely, I've had mine since 2019.
      I modified the steering, swapped the plastic servo horn and steering linkage for aluminium, however then crashed it head on into a log in July, the aluminium steering linkage was so strong that it absorbed the crash but one of the steering knuckles snapped. Which gave me the excuse to upgrade the steering knuckles to aluminium too.
      Just had another Range Rover shell delivered today, with the wide body n snorkel kit, metallic blue paint and slightly smaller Carisma tyres with bigger heavier alloy wheels, so gonna have fun over Christmas personalising it.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před rokem +1

      MST make great cars. Variety is a good thing, consider other ones too. Check out my 1 year anniversary video, that's a bit of a Best-Of highlight reel. I have a lot of crawlers here and depending on what brands you can get in your area, you may benefit from looking into something you haven't considered yet. Element RC have some rippers, RGT/FTX also. Gmade have interesting, high performance models and even cross rc have some real bangers. Look around, see what you think.
      MST stuff is quality, in short. Nothing is perfect and the DC1 was a bit odd, but they're generally good cars.

    Another person I like to watch (Crawler Canyon) got the Carisma van. He's totally reengineered it at this point, but out of the box he had similar feedback on the low speed control and steering. His was changed to SOA, maybe with parts that were included. It really performed quite well after his revisions and the body is absurdly delightful. I like the look of this truck, it's reminiscent of a 60s pickup with elements from each maker. Familiar, but also pretty unique... or I just can't figure out the truck for which it's modeled 😂. This one only made problem 1, but it looked like it's nearly there on the others. I know it's rotating mass, but I have to wonder what some heavy wheels with a good tire would do for this🤙

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před rokem +1

      That's a fair concern. I also wonder how much the ball ends in the front links may wear over time, too. It's a weak point to the design - but overall it doesn't weigh a great deal so it probably will be fine. Time will tell.

  • @fishnrc294
    @fishnrc294 Před rokem +1

    Nice. So maybe I have some valuable info. I’ve had mine for about a year & the first time I used it within 30 min. the rear driveshaft end pin & spring came of & the rear driveshaft was hanging down. That is not a good start obviously & I found that because the brand is Korean I believe parts where not available as other brands I contacted them same day& my new Crawler sat for 3weeks or so. They told me that it’s been an issue & people were putting shrink wrap over it so the spring doesn’t pop off & of course the pin falls out. They did send me a set of pins & springs & I used a dab of hot glue on each. So now it’s been holding up. I used the original wheels & tires from a Element Sendero which are plastic wheels & General tires that are way bigger & especially taller. Also I ordered mine with the ESC 2 which came with a programmer it’s super nice & I’ve programmed the drag brake etc. & it holds very well. I run it on 3S with no issues & it will out Crawl some of my more expensive RC’s after the changes. Those wheels changed it into a climbing beast. I think it’s the weight to strength ratio that makes it such a good climber. It’s one of my favorite Crawlers to take out watching it just brings a smile to your face. On sandstone type rock formations steeeep ones it just kills it. Adding weight down low would definitely do it some good as you stated.I paid about 300$ US & it was worth every penny. It’s just like almost all RC’s you just have to work the bugs out & then add the things that make it yours. Definitely for anyone thinking about getting one do it! You can make it into whatever you want. I was stoked to see you got one hours of fun are coming your way & anyone else that gets one.

    Mines the V1, and running an axial motor and belt drive, and is whisper quiet. It's set up more as a trail truck at the moment, but does crawl quite well.
    I'm interested to see if you mod it for better crawling performance, and the idea of painting the inside of the shell is a good one. Mine must have 6 coats of paint in the outside (one of them, pink!!) And changes every time it rolls over!! 😆👍🏻
