Hey folks - thanks for bearing with me on this one taking so long to get out, and having some video/audio imperfections. I've been learning a new editing software and have been sick with covid the past 2 weeks so video work has been slow. Either way, hope you enjoy and find it helpful!
@@maddisonmad2710 best thing for rain is to just change tires. if you have Race semi slicks. a good exchange would be to swap out those for sport tires. or even rally. they grip much better in wet conditions. give them both a try
I'm glad you mentioned deadzones, as its crucial for throttle and brake management and is often overlooked. However, optimal deadzone settings will be different everyone. Therefore it's important to set them up yourself, instead of taking fixed values like 5-95. Here's a quick and easy way to do it: 1) Set inside and outside dead zones to 0 and 100 respectively. Do this for acceleration (throttle trigger) and deceleration (brake trigger). 2) Go into the game and pull up telemetry, switch to the page where it shows you the % of throttle and brake applied. 3) Do not touch any of the controls and look at the readouts for brake and throttle: - If they're both at 0 and not moving, you're golden. Leave the inside deadzone at 0. - If they're not completely at 0 or even going up and down a little bit, go up one notch with inside deadzone. Then go back into telemetry. Repeat until both readouts are 0. 4) Now, fully press the brake trigger and hold it: - If it goes up to 100% and stays there while you're holding it, you're set. - If it doesn't reach 100% or goes up and down, go *down* one notch with decel *outside* deadzone. Then go back into telemetry. Repeat until brake readout is 100 flat. 5) Next, drive your car up against a wall. Fully press and hold the throttle: - If it goes up to 100% and stays there while you're holding it, you're set. - If it doesn't reach 100% or goes up and down, go *down* one notch with accel *outside* deadzone. Then go back into telemetry. Repeat until throttle readout is 100 flat. 6) Done.
I've been playing since FH3 and never knew about this setting (or rather knew that it wasn't at 0 by default) And yes, playing with less deadzone is way better!
For gear tuning, I find on high HP builds, a long first gear like 1960's race cars that reaches all the way to 60mph/100km/h makes for more consistent, fast launches with controlled wheel spin, and allows all other gears to group closer together in the high end of the power band. Depending on power, 100mph/160km/h might come late in 2nd for high power, or somewhere in 3rd gear for medium power.
thanks so much for pointing out the deadzone adjustment, the vast variety of settings in this game overwhelmed me as a first time Horizon player, didn't even know I could change the accel range of my trigger and I always felt like it was too small!
Regarding springs and ride height: IIRC spring numbers are "spring rate" (pounds per inch) so to keep the same spring force when lowering ride height one would want to increase spring rate, not decrease.
RWD Feels really good in this game imo. Love driving the Rear engined porsches they just have so much grip out of the corners and you can give it just a little slip to reduce understeer.
The porsches are so much fun to drive in this game. i find high powered builds have a lot of wheel spin, but increasing the length of the first gear helps a ton
Taking a low class rwd car with a shitty gear box rev matching with manual/clutch down the road in guanajuato through the tunnels slowly is a vibe. So is driving a mad powerful rwd monster in S1 and S2 class through a pack of racers. Thanks for the video.
Omg I needed this video so much. I just don't want to drive awd, it's no fun even I am placing in top 3 with it. I was rwding and placing in last 5 in online races before watching this video, hope it helps
I love tuning mid engine rwd cars Very high rear springs and shockers with front springs/shocks at half rear strength is a good start to control a lot of high power monsters
I love the changes that were done to RWD vehicles. It's noticeably better than FH4. I just wish tires were better, because loss of grip in certain situations is weird... I don't think they have tire compounds and grip quite as dialed in as it could be. Some cars are extremely grippy, and some, that have set records on real world racetracks don't seem to hook up very well at all. It's quite sad.
Thank you for this video! I prefer RWD up to S1 because i prefer the handling and being light with more power. It seems like i tuned my cars quite ok, almost exactly like you explained but i think i mess up with tyre compound sometimes. Didn't think that rallye tyres are really that good until i made a really good tune for the hoonigan escort and it was dominating the rivals event (all by accident)
I found success with rally tires on A class build. They don't cost that much in terms of PI and they grip more than enough for the power you get in that class. B class don't need them and higher than A they're kind of useless, at least on those cars I tuned until now. Of course there's always exceptions, but these are my go-to tyre compounds when thinking of balance.
@@SDTuts for S1/S2 i strongly prefer the semi slicks for road racing, thats really why i was so surprised they worked. Honestly i took them cause with the PI left i was able to use more power
Honestly surprised some things I didn’t catch some of these things. I basically drive RWD exclusively, because of my straight up refusal to AWD swap anything.
Nice one dude have been waiting for a good rear wheel drive tuning guide. Really enjoying rwd cars in fh5. Went so far as to check out your fh4 rwd tune. Happy hunting and keep the videos coming 😊🤘
RWD ALL THE THINGS! I only AWD on dirt. Everything else is RWD. It's literally the highest skill ceiling in FH5 as you can easily be faster than AWD. My only complaint is I think that AWD should have a 5-10% higher PI penalty but I love destroying someone using AWD with my RWD tunes.
it makes sense when semislick causes too much PI since it handles in wettrack better than slick, it doesnt slip when semi offtrack like slick, and it brakes better than slick. slick has better accel and better dry/hot track handling.
I've finally been playing a lot of FH5 after having it since launch and not playing it yet. I played a ton of the older Forza Motorsport games and never learned much about the tuning. Your videos are great, thank you. I remember rear wheel drive being better in certain ways in the old games too. Just recently I turned off traction control though and realized I wasn't tuning rear wheel drive correctly at all.
Great Vid, just like your other ones on tuning. Managed to learn to make tunes myself with those videos so i can finally stop searching around all day long to find a good tune while also having the looks just as i like it :D Especially this Rwd video helped a lot since i finally could adjust my AMG Hammer rwd tune and make it much more playable :) keep up the great work :)
Hey Sir Hoki, hope you a speedy recovery! Just a quick question if you don't mind. Will we see you covering Gran Turismo 7 here in the similar fashion you do for Forza? Thanks!
Nice tips.....Nice to hear someone explaining the finer more crucial points of traction and weight distribution etc. !! One of my favourite cars to drive in FH5 is the Lamborghini Centenario and I always play using the CockPit view (the view after the one that shows the drivers hands and wheel but still shows the dashboard) as I play with a Wheel and Pedal set-up in a Racing Rig.....There's quite a few reasons why this is one of my favourite, one of them being that it has a Digital G-Force Meter/Reader on the Cars Dashboard, which actually works, showing you the direction and level of G's in real-time !! I thought this was a nice feature and great attention to detail made by Playground Games !! Admittedly, it's a bit on the small side but none-the-less it still works and it could be a great learning tool for those players that understand too much about G-Force !!

I was in the Audi 🤣. I didn't want to block you in the end, only wanted to close the acceleration space. Sorry 🤭 was a really nice race ggs. Greetings from Germany
Heyy no way! No worries I figured the hit wasn't intentional, thanks for such a good race haha! I jumped online just to film, and the race with you was the very first one which was great to use in the video!
Driving every car with its original Drivetrain :D And i drive with an thrustmaster Wheel, so yeah it should be possible to do the same with the controller i guess :D The Trial this week with the Gt40 was a challenge tho :D This car doesnt allow any errors, this paired with unbeatable ai, and teammates that dont get the point of why to break in corners and ramming you all the time its wild.
I’d love to see a video that goes more in depth on your driving school video. Such as proper times to pass people (especially if they’re a rammer), how the driving line changed to pass somebody, how to pick cars, etc
You get most of what you're after from experience. The more you play the more you learn how to deal with rammers. Their aggression is always their downfall! Learn the tracks, remember the worst corners and safe fast ways to take them. I usually find wider slower entry works most, let the idiots all fly up the inside, then turn lol. Rammers aren't really an issue, they are stupid. Dirty drivers, players who are fast and know WHEN to ram, they are hard to beat 🤣 Beware all bridges!!!
I use the deadzone on my pedals themselves, specifically the clutch pedal. Only 10-95 but it helps with resting my foot on the clutch unnecessarily 🙄🤷🏼♂️ Awesome video again my guy! Rwd is definitely more viable in FH5 and I had the general idea right at least haha
Hey buddy! Grate guide videos they are very helpful!!! You have pleasant tone of voice 👍I do like to tune my own cars in forza it's rewarding when tune works and car handles nicely. It would be awesome if you could add summary of your guide videos in to description as simple text 😊 thanks for your help much appreciated 💯👌‼️
I play using my trusty old 360 controller. I really struggle using the Series controller because there's not enough resistance on the sticks which makes small movements extremely hard to do.
Can we have a clip for race/street tuning for some car categories like: supercars, muscle cars and so on. Maybe not all of them together but this help us the plebs who struggle with tuning an nice car to race with.
The dead zone for controller is such a problem. Its like playing on keyboard 0-100 no in-between. I'll hit my brakes and suddenly wheels lock up. Meanwhile I'm barely pressing the trigger.
I’m really trying to stick with manual shifting… it currently takes all my brain power to do it and everything suffers for it. My line, braking, turn in, literally everything went from damn good to average at best and I’m struggling to stay with it. It’s made a game I kill it in to a game that I suck at and don’t really enjoy atm. But I know the potential gains is worth it so I’m pushing thru for the moment. I need a pep talk. Anybody…
It's just a game dude...have fun... the eliminator is hella fun...and just tweak your cars till they are dialed in..or just download somebody's else's build...I use manual w/clutch..listen to the engine and shift...its always going to be somebody faster...👍🏾👏🏾..u got this
This is a Longshot. But I've watched all your tuning guide videos, they all are the best for me. I was wondering if you knew anything about game Torque Drift, & could give a good tuning guide for that one. I can't find anything good on it lol.
I really hated the driving physics of Horizon. It just doesn't compare to Motorsports. But then I switched it to simulation steering and man what a difference. Still not as good as Motorsports BUT a huge improvement I felt has to driver feedback in the car. Simulation steering on Motorsports tho, seems uncontrollable (I play on a controller) and is definitely geared towards steering wheel players. Gonna check this out, as I like keeping my cars RWD for the realism. I keep trying to give Horizon a chance. But keep ending back on the Nurburgring in Motorsports 😆
I think the cars in forza series are lighter and grip is less than other racing games, such as ACC, AC or Rfactor. I don't say this in a negative way, they just set up this way so people can enjoy drifting more. But when you want to be serious about road racing, you can't expect the RWD car to work like other racing sim.
RWD is SOOO much more fun too. I'm one of those who refuse to convert cars drivetrain and tries to avoid engine conversions except if a build is like for an example my own replica of the Castrol Supra (Rally engined), or the Lambo Diablo VT (AWD). If a car is FWD, RWD or whatever, from factory, my build will also be that way. Keeps each cars characteristics instead of the META w AWD, Lambo V12 engined everything and handles the same disregarding choice of car. Which, imo, is boring. /DBB
I'm trying to get the Lola #6 Sunoko to go around a track properly for The Trial, but it seems like an impossible task. With RWD it's never able to put the power down fast enough to get a good lap time, and with AWD it understeers so much i need to brake a lot more in corners, so the drivatars rear end me and forces me into the wall.
Older cars arent really capable of coping with a lot of power, you generally just have to accept that they arent going to drive as nicely as a modern car. I used the porsche 917 for the trial, rwd, for a few attempts (had a bad team and ai kept knocking me off checkpoints). It wasnt nice to drive, it was basically a power build so with a lot of effort it was actually very quick. Throttle conrtol isnt a simple thing, with a lot of practice youll find that you can actually go a lot faster than you originally thought you could. Also as a side note, with cars like the lola and porsche driving smooth is crucial and weight transfer tends to have more of an impact
@@Noreceipts400 Yeah i gave up and bought a Ferrari P4 instead, was able to tune that decently enough to get 1st place in the trial, but getting any sort of decent rivals time with it is impossible, understeer/not enough turning radius to get around corners fast enough. Which seems to be the issue with most cars i try to get a decent rivals time on, except the koenigsegg ccgt.
Launches seems to be very important against drivatars, with car 1-3 pulling away from the pack and car 4-7 only acting as blockers and not actually interested in racing at all. I have been using AWD to get an advantage over the terrible drivatar AI compared to FH4, but struggle with bad times in rivals, but i will give RWD another shot. Thanks for the guide, top notch as always.
Awd to me it’s understeers or either drifts when it losses traction but red I can corner more easier but wheel spins as u launch but handles quite good.
i really wish playground games makes improvments to how ride hight affects physics so i can stop losing to road cars with drift suspention on S1 cross contary racing :)
Another great guide bro. I really enjoy the rwd cars in fh5. Feels like they reward good smooth driving so much more now. With tuning, I find I get to a point where I get cars to a decent level, then don't have a clue how to get them perfect. Start messing about with too much stuff and fuck it all up!! 🤣 There are one or two folk I download tunes from, whose tunes suit my style perfectly. I wish I knew what the dude was doing, so I could apply it to all the cars I want to drive! Any track recommendations for road testing? Not had time to session anything outside the monthly rivals thing. 😭
Everyone runs the Horizon Mexico Circuit as it's got a pretty solid range of corners, but if you *Really* want to experiment, run a lap of the Colossus!

I'm glad you mentioned deadzones, as its crucial for throttle and brake management and is often overlooked. However, optimal deadzone settings will be different everyone. Therefore it's important to set them up yourself, instead of taking fixed values like 5-95. Here's a quick and easy way to do it:
1) Set inside and outside dead zones to 0 and 100 respectively. Do this for acceleration (throttle trigger) and deceleration (brake trigger).
2) Go into the game and pull up telemetry, switch to the page where it shows you the % of throttle and brake applied.

- If they're not completely at 0 or even going up and down a little bit, go up one notch with inside deadzone. Then go back into telemetry. Repeat until both readouts are 0.
4) Now, fully press the brake trigger and hold it:
- If it goes up to 100% and stays there while you're holding it, you're set.
- If it doesn't reach 100% or goes up and down, go *down* one notch with decel *outside* deadzone. Then go back into telemetry. Repeat until brake readout is 100 flat.
5) Next, drive your car up against a wall. Fully press and hold the throttle:
- If it goes up to 100% and stays there while you're holding it, you're set.
- If it doesn't reach 100% or goes up and down, go *down* one notch with accel *outside* deadzone. Then go back into telemetry. Repeat until throttle readout is 100 flat.
6) Done.

I jumped online just to film, and the race with you was the very first one which was great to use in the video!
very helpful, dude!
I miss the OG horizon where you couldn't awd swap everything. I do however like the racing v6, v8 and v12 swaps to give all cars insane power.
Driving every car with its original Drivetrain :D
And i drive with an thrustmaster Wheel, so yeah it should be possible to do the same with the controller i guess :D
The Trial this week with the Gt40 was a challenge tho :D This car doesnt allow any errors, this paired with unbeatable ai, and teammates that dont get the point of why to break in corners and ramming you all the time its wild.
@@Weeji_420 *flashbacks to the first bridge on the Goliath*
I use the deadzone on my pedals themselves, specifically the clutch pedal. Only 10-95 but it helps with resting my foot on the clutch unnecessarily 🙄🤷🏼♂️
Awesome video again my guy! Rwd is definitely more viable in FH5 and I had the general idea right at least haha
HoshiHoki 👋🏻
Also I swear rally tires are the sweet spot for tire choice most of the time!
Thank God I thought I was the only normal person who doesn't awd swap every car
Question: Why does lowering ride height in the rear all the way down and all the way up in the front make the Top Speed specs go higher?
I play using my trusty old 360 controller. I really struggle using the Series controller because there's not enough resistance on the sticks which makes small movements extremely hard to do.
Did you try adjusting your steering linearity for more bias towards small inputs?
i tell ya, that ccgt or the nissan 390, just throw them into turns and they flat out fly as rwd
Can we have a clip for race/street tuning for some car categories like: supercars, muscle cars and so on. Maybe not all of them together but this help us the plebs who struggle with tuning an nice car to race with.
I have a supra build with semi slicks that spins tires in 6th gear at 160 mph
The dead zone for controller is such a problem. Its like playing on keyboard 0-100 no in-between. I'll hit my brakes and suddenly wheels lock up. Meanwhile I'm barely pressing the trigger.
Somehow ARB calculation system from FH4 works for me as base from which I adjust my rwd and usually not by much.
Anybody…
It's just a game dude...have fun... the eliminator is hella fun...and just tweak your cars till they are dialed in..or just download somebody's else's build...I use manual w/clutch..listen to the engine and shift...its always going to be somebody faster...👍🏾👏🏾..u got this
I hope this helps cause I can't make a rwd build for the life of me.
This is a Longshot. But I've watched all your tuning guide videos, they all are the best for me. I was wondering if you knew anything about game Torque Drift, & could give a good tuning guide for that one. I can't find anything good on it lol.
RWD cars feel great to race in FH5 as long as you have semi slicks and race springs
I play with automatic shift and it's sad that I can't play with RWD cars because it's basically uncontrollable
Haha by chance doing the stingray for the upcoming season? good stuff
can you explain the camber thing? some cars come with front camber more positive than the rear, others the opposite, whats the difference?
I really hated the driving physics of Horizon. It just doesn't compare to Motorsports. But then I switched it to simulation steering and man what a difference. Still not as good as Motorsports BUT a huge improvement I felt has to driver feedback in the car. Simulation steering on Motorsports tho, seems uncontrollable (I play on a controller) and is definitely geared towards steering wheel players. Gonna check this out, as I like keeping my cars RWD for the realism. I keep trying to give Horizon a chance. But keep ending back on the Nurburgring in Motorsports 😆
That was a bit mean win there at 14:16, but very earned one 😀
When RWD works in a race, it’s really rewarding!
I build the same car the same way and also tuned it. But for some reason it is still not recomended in any race in singleplayer. Maybe you know why?

A S2 rwd built is pointless but I love the video
everything just bounceed up from my head in the tuning part
Another great guide bro.
I really enjoy the rwd cars in fh5. Feels like they reward good smooth driving so much more now.
With tuning, I find I get to a point where I get cars to a decent level, then don't have a clue how to get them perfect. Start messing about with too much stuff and fuck it all up!! 🤣
There are one or two folk I download tunes from, whose tunes suit my style perfectly.
@@aurastrike Cheers bud 👍
I love the longer tracks!
Thanks for the help now I’m keeping rwd cars instead of making them awd. My problem is I keep spinning out after exiting a turn any help.
