      Being a Rugby League fan; the Super League forced through changes that diminished the value of The Challenge Cup to the point that the BBC only screened live games on BBC1 or 2 at the Quarter Final stage... this sparks the beginning of the end of the FA Cup.

      yet funnily enough the replays in the qualifying rounds remain. So professionals in League One or Two can put their feet up in midweek but part-time footballers that earn a living as a builder will have to hop on the motorway for an FA Cup Replay in the 2nd qualifying round on a 4 hour round trip on a Wednesday evening.

    with anything in life there needs to be give and take. If the big boys want rid of the replays (which i understand) Then give the EFL something in return for that, whether its a greater slice of the premier league money or something else. Similar for the fans, listen to the room for once, fans probably don't want to lose the replays, but give them something back, no VAR in any round of the FA cup, put the semi finals back in neutral venues, have kick off returned to 3pm. The problem is they just want to do exactly what they want to do and don't care about the fans or the entire pyramid. They need to be very careful they don't badly mess this up.

    I remember Everton being drawn away to Sheffield Wednesday in the cup, it took four games to decide the tie. Best cup replay ever was Everton 4-4 Liverpool. Often more magic in the replay than in the first game. Football is about the whole pyramid not the top six premier league clubs only. Maybe if the top flight clubs put out their strongest team there wouldn't be so many replays. Supporters must realise that they are no longer important.

Instead of taking Liverpool back to Tranmere, the game would go to penalties and that would give Tranmere a great chance of knocking Liverpool out and going to the next round. • @athosgomesfonseca
    @athosgomesfonseca Před měsícem +5

    EFL owners are creating ripples in still waters just for the sake of making noise. The replay is as outdated as any lingering redundancy in the game can be. What’s next? They will want the pass back rule to be abolished? To subject throw-ins to the offside rule? Away goal and replay rules stagnate the game, they don’t make the game better. This will make giant slayings all the more epic and create a whole new era of romance around smaller clubs clobbering Goliath on the pitch of glory.

      @taykitrleevitt4314 Před měsícem +4

      The backlash is about denying lower league teams the opportunity of playing Premier League teams either at their own ground or at the more lucrative venue of the Premier League club...the charm and pragmatic benefits of the FA Cup will be eroded for lower league clubs.

      lower league clubs are outdated and redundant too

    • @athosgomesfonseca
      @athosgomesfonseca Před měsícem

      @@taykitrleevitt4314 this is simply solved by playing matches against the bigger clubs at their stadiums instead because if the argument here is to give lower league clubs home games hoping to draw in hope of forcing a replay match at the bigger parks, that’s simply anti-football so you might as well install a two-legged tie format and simplify it but that is itself counterintuitive to the objective here which is to reduce the number of games rather than increase them. Most big clubs already give smaller clubs the benefit of playing early round matches in the FA Cup fielding largely reserve to academy players anyway so if anything, the abolishment of the replay throughout will increase the number of smaller sides advancing further since those top clubs playing in the various continental tournaments are more likely to preserve their stars giving the Davidian sides greater odds at felling Goliath. Frankly, the EFL is right to speak up but this is a Goliath I am afraid David cannot win against.
